I have a rooted ouya with the xposed FW on it. I did not install CWM though.
I was thinking about just going back to non rooted stock and doing a restore but was curious if this will wipe out games saves and such.
Also I moved ALL my games to my USB drive and was wondering if those will get wiped, or remain on the card?
If they remain on the card though will I still have to download them again since the system files will get wiped.
thanks

I rooted my Evo4G and its working pretty good but I think there is like extra clutter in there taking up space and in the sd card from past apps. I have stock rom btw. Before I got Titanium backup, I deleted some stock sprint apps without backups eek I got too excited with the whole root thing and went on some sites to check out what apps were safe to remove. Anyways, my questions is, If I wipe the data, will those removed apps cause a problem in the process? Would I have to restore all the stock apps I uninstalled or will they come back or not come back but not pose a problem? Or do I have to flash back the stock rom? You can see in the images what apps were not backed up. What I would like happen is wipe data, have my phone turn on (with or without those uninstalled apps) and start adding apps again from scratch. That way I can clear out my sd card too and have maximum power!
Just wiping data (or a factory reset) will not touch your system partition. Any apps that you've removed will still not be there after resetting. Any apps that you've added to /system/app (if you have for any reason) will remain.
My suggestion is to backup your SD card and format it. Then move back only what you want/need (photos, music, backups). Before booting the phone again, either do a factory reset or wipe everything and flash the stock rooted rom (or another if you're feeling adventurous). I believe that you said that you were stock. If you're on a different rom, you can of course wipe and flash that.
This will give you a fresh start on both your SD card and data partition.

Hmm so is there a difference between factory reset and wiping everything? I have my sd backed up to my comp so I don't care if I loose anything on the phone or sd card. What would be the easiest for me since I wanna keep it stock but rooted and not flash unless I have to. Do I have to flash to stock rooted rom regardless or can I just factory reset and everything will work fine?
Ok so I did a factory reset and it turned on fine. Those apps that I uninstalled didn't come back which is good. That's exactly what I wanted. The best part is I didn't have to flash. Thanks though.
Hi
I just flashed my first ROM on my GS3. I went from the LH1 stock OTA from Samsung, rooted, installed CWM, and then flashed AOKP(Jellybean) Task & Ktoonsez - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684 - many thanks to them btw for some amazing work.
Anyway once I flashed the ROM and GAAPS and my device booted up, all my data was still there... my photos, my apps reloaded, even the data inside the apps was still there, which I cannot understand how. Don't get me wrong I am happy that everything was still there. Also, I did make a backup from CWM but I did not restore it because I did not need to (since all the data loaded on its own).
My question is: was this feature built into this ROM or is this something that is normally supposed to happen.
If you didn't factory reset (wipe data/cache) before flashing AOKP, then yes, all your apps will still be there. That's not recommended though because lingering system settings from the stock ROM could mess with things.
And factory reset doesn't erase your internal storage or SD card, it just wipes apps and settings, so your photos and stuff will be there regardless.

Thanks for the reply. I did definitely did factory reset in CWM as I followed all instructions to the T. I am not sure why but all of my apps remained, I saw some of them auto download rather quickly and for example I have this app called Vaulty. All of its contents were still inside.
Odd nonetheless
Okay, so I have a sprint galaxy s3 which I rooted the way that is shown on this page through odin and clockwork mod. I only rooted just to get tether, but now I want to try a custom rom for the first time and it says I have to wipe cache and reset wipe data (reset factory settings) inside of the bootloader before flashing the rom. My question is, will my backed up copy of recovery which I made last week be erased if it is on the internal memory card as I do not have an external sd card. I just have the 16gb galaxy s3. I ask this in case the rom does not flash properly so I can flash my recovery again and save my phone from being a brick. I have read and it seems to say all of the data in the internal memory will be wiped, so will that wipe my backed up recovery which is inside the clockworkmod folder

While I don't know the answer to that question I do highly recommend you get an external SD, even like an 8 GB which is what I'm using right now. It acts as a safety net, I keep all my valuables on there in case something does go wrong (nandroids, music, ROMs). Practice safe flashing!
I do know, however, that as long as you simply do a factory reset you do retain your pictures and music, but as for nandroids I am not sure

Just don't pick format data only factory reset and then wipe your caches and you'll be good to go.....

I just restored my phone and some apps are not working correctly. it seems that the apps can't save any files to the android system or something. I am rooted and have stock touchwiz, android 4.4.2, and twrp recovery. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Did you use twrp or stock recovery to reset the phone? Sometimes, stock recovery will work better.

TWRP
I'm finding a lot of apps can't write to the system. I just installed Titanium Backup and it can't create a backup location. RedReader Beta says error in cache storage and may be out of space. and zedge tells me download fail when I try to download anything.
Try doing a factory reset with stock recovery from the ROM, not the recovery menu.
If you were coming back from Android 12.x to Touchwiz I have read where it is sometimes necessary to format the internal sdcard to get all bits working correctly. If the factory reset from stock recovery, as suggested by audit13, doesn't work then try the format. Doing so will clear all apps and settings, be warned.
I will try try this when I get home this evening.

Make sure you are back on a custom recovery, such as TWRP, if you need to formate the internal sdcard. This will make it easier to flash a ROM from the external sdcard, since you just wiped the internal.
for some reason my stock backups from the virgin ndc do not boot after i use a lp or mm rom. im using twrp 3. Someone posted about the stock backups not restoring but no help in that thread. clean wipes do not work either.

Clean wipe means, also wipe internal storage. To boot a KitKat ROM or restore a backup after lp or mm, you must wipe everything except external sd. It's the way lp and mm encrypt the internal storage.

Are you sure you're wiping internal? Not just wipe data, format internal (data/media) storage. Do it twice if you have to. If you've definitely done that, then your backup is corrupt. Because once you wipe internal (and data and system) you've removed all traces of mm or lp. So the previous rom has nothing to do with FC. Are you trying to restore titanium backups of apps from mm onto kk? Don't.
Also, have you moved apps to external sd on any rom? If you have, and not properly removed that data, it can cause problems.

no the fcs happen right at boot. dont see how my backup is corrupted and yea ive wiped internal storage. not that much of a noob lol just new to this device. what i did was restored with ndc tar and then flashed twrp then booted back to stock to make sure everything is ok. Then make a backup then clean wipe again to install lp or mm roms then if i do another clean wipe and restore stock backup fcs on boot.
