[Q] Screen Flickering? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello,
Hope all is well.
I was wondering if anyone experienced an issue with their Samsung Galaxy S4 where the screen flickers on the bottom 3/4 of the screen with a greyish tint? Not sure what is causing this and can't seem to figure out if it is a hardware or software issue.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated - thank you!!

I'm afraid that is a hardware defect.

Hello,
Yes - I am running a custom rom. Hmm - so it's a known defect huh. Darn - that's a bummer because this phone was expensive!

I don't have flickering

Hardware defects are covered by warranty. So long as you can reproduce the flickering on a 100 percent non rooted stock ROM.

Hello,
Thanks for the tip! Do you possibly know where I can get a 100% non-rooted stock ROM for the phone?

Doubtful it is hardware
I have been having this problem since the 4.3 update. It usually only happens when the screen dims down due to screen timeout. Then it will start to get worse and project the flicker at regular brightness. A reboot usually fixes the problem or lessens it for a period of time.
I have tried with and without my live wallpaper, auto brightness on and off. Some people have recommended a factory reset to see if that clears it, but I have not been willing to do that yet since I have data that I do not want to loose and have not had the time to really troubleshoot. I am completely stock.
This has been driving me crazy for a while now. If you do factory reboot please post if makes a difference.

I think I've found the best solution out there for most annoying screen flickering issues... Done a substential amount of digging and finally discovered the app "Twillight" which works like a real charm by enabling backlight control feature... Try it out first, then thank me and share your experience here ...

q: why is my home screen loading so slow?

After exiting my programs and pressing home button..my load screen is extremtly slow in loading the clock and icons.
Also my typing is super laggy. Seems to have half a second delay when typing or deleting.
I feel after i rooted and flashed its been much slower
How can i solve this?
Without knowing more it would be hard to troubleshoot.
First thing I would look at is memory and cpu usage with something like system tuner.
Then look at your rom/kernel (most likely the problem)

Also how do i use system tuner?
Normal stuff like cpu usage.. If you notice you have a lot of third party widgets taking a lot of cpu etc..
Regarding rom, might want to ask in that thread see if others have the same problem.. Also might want to try basic stuff like wiping cache..

Yes but ive had it in before and it wasn't an issue. I also turned it off and still laggy
Well what I would do is just start over from the beginning, wipe everything then reflash your rom and then see if everything goes back to normal

I'm having the same issue. The GPS keeps coming on, even with everything turned off in the general settings and within my apps. I did a factory reset and wiped all my data and the problem still persist. I also have taken out the battery, sim and sd card too and still no luck. So if anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I have not had this problem, I'm on ATT as well. Although I do not have the value pack upgrade as it seems to cause degraded battery and gaming performance on my phone.
Try factory reset from settings...save all your data first on a ext-sdcard or on your pc then do the factory reset...

I call at&t and they have no complaint reports for this issue. Or know anything about it. They guy from tech care recommend a master reset. Wich i say No. Cause i work for tmobile and thats what i do to clients lol! Karma is a bi#$%.
Anyways location access so far turn on while making a call, conecting to wifi or data. Or waking the phone from stand by.
I went to google settings and under location i turn off the location reporting & location history. So far so good. So i will keep testing this and let you guys now.

No this is becoming a widespread issue. I had this problem and literally would watch the switch go from off to on in a matter of seconds. Everytime I received a phone call it would turn the GPS on, each and every time. I had to disable the carrier iq and all the services associated with it, and surprisingly my battery life has significantly increased on standby.
How do you disable the carrier iq? What did you disable exactly?

Never mind i did already. I totally forgot about the carrier iq. My previous phone did not have as it was a international version. Finally gone the annoying gps turn it on.

I have noticed this issue as well. I am trying to pin down exactly what is causing it. I believe I am getting close, as I have noticed a specific Google location service being active each time I have had problems with the GPS. After stopping that location service the gps isn't turning on every 2-3 minutes.

GPS on device unexpectedly turns on ????
Hello everyone, greetings from my cozzy bed lol
No, serious talk.
During this last week i have noticed how my gps keep turning itself on, i an very paranoid when it comes to whats on my phone. The fact that it turns it self on at random moments
Was very strange to me. I recalled of any apps i installed., google settings, location settings, i even downgraded my Maps app because had just recently updated it. Since the problem was with the gps i assummed it could be a bug in the app. Which i find it is not. Now i have noticed that it comes on when:
*Placing a call
*Plugging usb cabke to pc/ac adpater
*Turning data connection on after being off forna while
*sometimes even after the phone gets unlocked
Now whilebmost of the times i unlock the device and its already on, i have dropped my OGP but that shouldnt be the cause as the problem is
Software related not hardware. It has been about 3 days now with this issue and i
Have grown a frustration towards it. I even thought the phone was messing up and almost trew it against the concrete when ibwas walking outside.
It really annoys me to have to be watching its state while i try to do something else
I wondered if anyone else has this same issue and if they were able to fix it.
Please help me with this bug.
This seems to happen randomly, it did it to me, I had to factory reset my phone to get it to stop. I then had it happen again so I flashed the original modem from the non value pack update and it never happened again, don't know if that was a quinky dink or it coincides with it.

I'm thinking it's probably Google Now. The real oddity is the amount of time it stays on for while indoors. It's almost like it doesn't want to utilize AGPS for when it can't pull a line of sight GPS signal.

Actually its most likely the AT&T Carrier IQ software that's on this phone. You can disable it in the Android system processes but it comes back on within 24hrs. Does anyone know of a thread of how to get rid of Carrier IQ on a LG Phone? I briefly browsed threads on XDA but didn't see a LG based one. Looks like the new G2 also has Carrier IQ on it too but the old Optimus G does not.

Cool Im glad it worked out.. Seriously though, Pacman is a combo of 3 of my favorite roms so next time you get a chance to flash it, you should scope it out! and that one on the last link i sent ya!

Help! My phone screen stays off at the end of phone calls !

OK so I flashed the PAC ROM for hlte then I noticed my screen would stay asleep after every phone call forcing me to press home to wake it up pull down my notification bar and hanging up through the notification now I recently changed to the latest snapshot from cyanogenmod and flashed the latest lean kernel hoping that oy would be fixed and nope still does the same thing. Just wondering if I can fix it or is it my phone that's busted?
Also my screens is cracked pretty bad don't know of that matters any replies would be nice! Thank you

Hello, I also had this issue 2 days ago. I was on HyperDrive Rom and I couldn't get my screen to turn on at all after a call. It happen when I downloaded a nightly of Cyanogenmod and had it fail. What I had to do was restore a week old back up and haven't had it return yet. Maybe CM related? I'm not sure but been fine since.

Well then I'm going to say ALWAYS MAKE A BACK UP!! then you can delete it if ur new Rom works good but u should always keep at least ONE. If you do have that one back up I would say yes, go do that or the better and easier option is to just start completely fresh with a full wipe and new Rom. Hope this helps. Its a kernel issue, and it could possibly be a cm source issue. Meaning most cm based kernels could have the hard sleep issue. So if its on one cm kernel its almost going to be on all. Since source commits are the same, just added features per kernel. I highly recommend yank 555 kernel, then you can tune your max off freq and hardlimit etc. May help you out a bit..
