Hello
I have also experimented in the realization of my do it yourself car wireless dock with nfc..
I used the following parts:
1 NFC Tag
2 Wireless Charger External Battery 4800mAh ( http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00E5SJK7C/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
3 rubberized adhesive (to prevent slipping with the vibrations of the machine )
Magnets 4 of a hard disk
5 Glue
6 A suction cup dock Samsung.
A few photos and a video:

Thanks to RanRug for the video.
Very good!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with a car dock for the extended battery? I have a universal dock and it doesn't fit at all and keeps falling out. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Edit:
Found this. I think it supports the extended battery, but it doesn't look like it'll work well with a case.

Why use an extended battery in the car when you can just plug it in?

Perhaps he wants to take his phone with him when he leaves his car (and wants/needs an extended battery for when he's not able to plug it in). It's actually very common that people keep their phone with them, whether or not they're in the car. Maybe you don't drive, so you don't know that.
By having a car cradle which worked with an extended battery, he wouldn't have to carry two batteries and swap between them every time he got in or out of his car.

Haha, thanks.
I just facepalmed his response and continued on....
The official HTC car dock kit supports the extended battery and it would be difficult to find a higher quality dock for this phone.
Is this what you're talking about? It claims "This car kit can not be used with HTC Thunderbolt extended battery. It only work with a standard battery on your HTC Thunderbolt." Maybe you could show me what you're talking about?
The rocketfish mp3 car mount works great, it has two adjustable jaws that you tighten to hold the device. It will hold anything up to about two inches deep and the jaws leave enough room to plug in the power cable and audio jack. It costs about $20 and it comes in two versions. Both versions come with the suction cup window mount but one has a vent clip and the other has a bike mount.
I have one of these in both cars. Just use a cig - double USB charger and the usb cable to charge the TB. Kept the TB solid in the cradle all the way from Michigan to Florida.

I use the 415 model, it's a bit larger, and fits the phone in a case better..
I have been using this since captivate days, fits perfect near the gear where I rest my hand and change folders and use gestures. I got a separate holder for GPS as well.
I got is from http://www.dealextreme.com/c/cellphone-device-holders-704 but can't find the same piece, but they keep adding more
Nice setup you got there. I got a similar holder but it clips in the ac vent above the stereo. I like it a little higher, it seems easier to see when I'm driving.
i am currently making a USB/Audio out cable (testing for S3)
Micro usb trigering car dock mode allowing charging and audio out. (can make them for Home dock mode so you can stream pandora on wifi and charge at same time
then may make a few and sell them as i have a bunch of bulk micro usb connectors and 619k resistors and 832tc Epoxy (explosive Proof LOL)
i would just need more usb and stereo cables
How many people would want one PM me, so i can gauge interest
im thinking with time involved and testing ea and such low volume $25.00 Ea. (plus 2ish for shipping) made the way 2nd post (with that y cable vs a usb and audio cable)
www.fdcv1.com is my design (circuit board and casing and layout of all parts etc) and built in house (not best example of my work but most public)
How high can you extend the dock?
I'll be using one of these when it gets delivered,

excellent item, fits perfectly and my samsung s3 fits perfectly without sliding, i really like this product.
EverDock
I came across fuzdesigns[dot]com which is very stable while driving and do not have to find cables to plug every time you are in a car
I made a magnetic charger for the S4 that works really well! It is similar to the setup I had for my HTC Sensation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283200. I've had it in two different cars, one of which was a Subaru I used to offroad and never had any problems with it falling off. As far as the parts I used:

3/16 rare earth magnets:

Qi charging receiver (does not make a 'bump' on rear cover):

LG WCP-700. Good luck finding one. You could sub any charging mat:

GSI Super Quality 30w, 19v Laptop Rapid Car Charger Adapter Plug:

1. I cut the end off of the stock wall charger and spliced onto the 19v charger since that is what the wall charger outputs.
2. I folded the circuit in half glued it in to the box. I used a hallmark jewelry box that I cut half the height off of. The box is approx. 2.5x3.5--near perfect fit.
3. I centered the magnets and glued them in place before taping/gluing the box closed.
4. I marked out the measurements on back of the case and drilled holes. The case is hard inflexible plastic so it drilled really well.
5. Place case on box and match magnet polarities before taping them in place.
6. Use double sided tape to affix the box to your dash. Or, if you feel fancy, I bought the vehicle specific mount from ProClip and taped it to that.
7. Run cables for charger, or just plug in.

With that Qi charger do you keep NFC functionality?

Unfortunately the NFC doesn't work. Although I used it, losing it wasn't that big of a deal for me.
That Qi receiver is only rated at 600mah, there's no way it will keep the phone charged if it's being used while in the car. Even a 1A charger will let the phone slowly die while using navigation& having the screen on.

You are right. If using navigation and music it will discharge faster than it will charge, but it is VERY slow to do so. However, if you just listen to music with the screen on it charges fine. About 10% an hour.
Very cool. A bit expensive for me, but it'd be nice to have in my car.
I took my old power mate case for my s3 and took out the internals. I have a incipio case that I cut out the silicon layer to fit the circuit board with out adding any bulk to the case.

Is this asking too much of a nexus 5 accessory? Is it out there, somewhere? I like my car's air dock, I like my home's qi stand, so I'd like to know is there a best of both worlds?
Not quite sure what you are asking about here, but I have 2 Nexus Qi chargers, one for home and one for my car. I use the LG QuickCover for Nexus 5 that will stick to the magnets of the charger without a phone in it. The charger in my car is mounted at an angle on my dash so I can use it for sat-nav. Perfect setup in my view.
Can anyone recommend a magnetic car mount with wireless charging? Or are they all crap?
No Chance
Magnetic field from wireless charger will interfere with metal for magnetic holder and heat up battery
How's that?
Metal part will heat up from magnetic field like I said before and mess your battery
You may try but it's science
So you're saying that any magnetic mount at all will be bad because it will heat the phone up?
Yes, it may be some specially design but I wouldn't trust them.I am electrician and 1 time i try wireless charger with my magnetic holder just to see what gonna happen and it was heat up and stop charging in 20 min?
What brand was that one, if you don't mind my asking?
I don't think that the problem is all magnetic mounts, since I used one for 2 solid years with no problems. It could be the combination of magnetic & wireless, or it could just be that particular charger.
Anyone else have experience with a wireless/magnetic combo?
This is what I meant combunation of metal piece from magnetic mount and wireless charger
Charger was Samsung , mount from https://www.proclipusa.com/product-finder/vehicle/dashboard-mounts/volkswagen/passat?p_leftorright=0
Check out Pitaka. Their case has 2 circular shaped metal discs embedded. So it'll work with their magnetic mount as well as any wireless charger. They now have a magnetic QI charger too. *Note, the case only works with their magnetic mount, but it's like $10 a pop (I got it when it first came out, it was like $5 or so).
Source: I have one (and 4 magnetic mounts between 3 cars) and charge almost exclusively with a cheap wireless charger off of amazon.
Or, try this charger (or one of these types): https://de.aliexpress.com/item/360-...-eced-4b21-809c-1152db4cb6da&rmStoreLevelAB=0
I have that and it holds and charges my S8+ and my previous S7Edge very good without any need of installing a metal plate. It seems that Samsung has enough metal built inside the case, that the phones stick to the charger.
