[Q] What rom to install? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are your most favorite roms? Why? How much customization do they allow?
Please, list any suggestions, I'm currently using AOKP but it's kinda buggy (random reboots and no vibrations), so I'd rather get something more stable.
Sense is okay, as long it's standing on Android JellyBean or higher

Hi;
I was just about to post exactly the same question I'm on Android 2.3.5 and would like to upgrade to something that is going to improve my phone and is stable (Must have WiFi and 3G).
Sorry for bumping the thread

Thread moved to Q&A as it is a question. Thread closed as it's a best ROM thread, which is not allowed. Try out the ROMs you're interested in and form your own opinion

[Q] Which ROM ?

I am on Cyanogen 6.0.1 and is hit by random freeze, twice or thrice a day. Which Android 2.2 ROM is the best in your opinion based on stability? While I do like to have better responsiveness, battery performance etc, stability is very important. Pulling the battery twice or thrice is not what I want to do.
Thank you.
I've been enjoying skyraider 3.1 rc3. No random issues. Fast and stable.

Ruby has definately been the best rom I have used so far. I don't think it will be long and the bugs will be worked out. My battery life is the only thing that has been sub-par on ruby
My favorite has been aiccucs Rom's right now I'm waiting for the newest one to be finished then I'll flash that over the update I received.
Thanks, guys. Ruby has not been listed in the wiki.

Hmmm
Asking this question is exactly like asking "Which religion is the right one" or asking on facebook "Should I get an iPhone or a Droid". It is NEVER a meaningful question.
The most stable rom is the stock one (everything else builds on it anyway, and cookers break things along the way). Anything else is just you flashing away, and making your own decision.

I find it very meaningful. Looked like someone was asking for other people to give their thoughts on what ROMs they liked the best and why. Quite a far cry from NEVER a meaningful question.
Here are some of my insights on the ROMS I have tried ...
Cyanogen 6.02 - Bluetooth voice dialing doesn't work. Voice command audio does not come through the bluetooth headset when activating via the headset button. None of the other froyo based roms have had this issue
SkyRaider 3.0 RC2 - Seemed very stable. I especially enjoyed the "vanilla" version
Virtuous 2.6 - Seemed very stable. I used the Virtuous EZ-Customizer through ROM Manager and it allowed me to remove a lot of the stock apps I did not want. Saved me a good amount of memory. If this ROM had an option to remove SenseUI it would be my #1 choice.
Ruby 1.1.0 - Seemed very stable. Notification LED did not blink but remained lit when notification present.. This may have been a setting I was not aware of.

You can get rid of sense on Virtous. Make sure you download another launcher, i.e Launcherpro. Then use root explorer to delete the rosie.apk. Thats what I did plus I deleted some other things, and I have had no issues what so ever.

Disagree. OP wants to know the best, and no one can answer that. That remains a matter of personal preference, and one persons preference is not anothers.
Perhaps if the OP asked "which ROM do random people like, based on their own personal choices and preferences, at the moment that they post their answer" the question would have made more sense, but then again, the answers would not be useful. Exactly like asking "what is the best national fast food chain."

Best CM10 ROM out at the moment?

I'm presently looking for a CM10 Jelly Bean ROM that has the least bugs.I am travelling soon and need a solid ROM so it doesn't give out randomly.
List of AOKP/CM10 JB Links:
1) task650 and Ktoonsez: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684.
This one I tried about three weeks ago, was way too buggy. I switched. There`s many more bug releases though, so is this a viable option as an everyday driver?
2) cyanogen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778270
This one so far has worked best for me, but there`s still quite a few bugs that bother me, but I could use it if needed. I just need a stable daily driver.
3) krarvind: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1865262
I`ve never tried this one, was just released today. Any input on lag, glitches, bugs, etc please let me know.
Firstly, I`d like to thank you for the support. I have have two more questions.
Which Jelly Bean kernel is currently the most stable?
Currently for CM10 there are two kernels released, as far as I know.
The first being again, by Ktoonsez: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
The second is the faux123 kernel. This is the one I think I should personally use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785472
Thank you all in advanced, I would really appreciate the help!

You are going to end up with nothing but opinions here. You need to try each and see if they work for you. No one uses their phone exactly the way you do so can't tell you which bugs YOU may find and which ones you can live with. Best ROM threads are bull**** and should not be asked. Read the OPs of each and decide which is best for you!

Not being a ****. Not being rude.
Just putting in my 2 cents.
If you need something 100 percent stable. That is going to perform. And you do not have 100 percent access to a computer or w.e to access with your phone for Odin in case things go haywire. Stock is the best most stable thing out there.
But. Like the above user said. Its all a matter of opinions. No facts. But I would say ktoons AOKP atm for most stable.

what rom do you use?
btw i was in FL last week and went to coco beach.. that place was sweet
They all have small bugs here and there. If you can live with those particular bugs, then all are pretty much daily drivers.
IMO, the CM9 based AOKP by Task/Ktoonsez is 98% bug free.
Biggest issue is flakey vibration when typing. Sometimes it vibrates, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it vibrates softly.
Otherwise it's almost on par with a stock ROM bug-wise. I wish we could get someone to fix the vibration issue. It's an amazing freakin ROM otherwise. Best I've ever used.
And, it's just as fast/smooth as JB with the same (IMO) battery performance when used with Ktoonsez AOSP kernel.
I keep trying CM10 and JB AOKP and keep going back to ICS AOKP. But JB is getting close!
EDIT:
I should mention that I always use 3rd party camera, phone, gallery and SMS apps. So if ICS AOKP has issues with those apps, I don't know about it because I don't use them.

[Q] looking for a stable ROM

Hello I am looking for a stable ROM with ICS or any android 4.0+ version because I need a T9 dialer in hebrew which is built in any android 4.0+ version.
And why do I need it stable?
well... the phone is going to be belong to my sister and I am going to have the HOX+(maybe not quite sure yet) and she is not going to play with ROMs flash them during the night and look for the best for her and update the ROM every week so thats why I need it stable...
and guys dont worry our HTC is kind of old but still good but my sister is walking around with Samsung 514!!!
I really want her to be impressed with android (although it does not matter what UI he have as long its not AOKP because i didnt love it )
thank you for you help time, thinking and for reading this despite my bad english(i can wait 2 weeks tops)'

Stable 4.0+ ha you must be new here.

All ICS+ ROMs are in a alpha / beta stage for the Desire... they can never be as stable as you would like them to be because of inherent device driver and resource limitations in our phone. Having said that, I use Sandvold http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660. It is a decent daily driver for me, but has a major bug once in a while. You would need to debug for your sister on such occasions.

People will never learn there are no but's when something is stable.

PS: I edited my earlier post to remove the word stable
what about the miui he is in beta level but he is there because it gets updated almost every week can any one recommend on that?
and do you guys think that even in 2 weeks no stable roms will appear?

OK, there's the thing. If you are looking for a stable ics+ or ics+ with sense, your out of luck. The htc desire will not be able to support it with help from htc's own engineers/developers. However, if you are willing to use a fairly buggy rom, just pick any and see how you like it. In short, stop asking and just do it. Enjoy flashing.

If you want her to be impressed with Android, don't flash any ICS/JB as they are filled with various problems that noobs keep on making threads about them. You don't want your sister to have that impression that Android is a crappy OS don't you?
Stable? Go with AOSP CyanogenMod7 or Oxygen roms or at least anything that is based on those roms. Yeah it's Gingerbread but it's a fully working OS. They aren't eye candy but you'll have little to no complaints coming from your sister about this or that not working.

Avoid AOSP roms!!

This was a wasted and unnecessary thread, as well as naive and immature.
As far as we know, you did something incorrectly in your endeavor to transition from stock to aosp. Do not blame your mistake, a system error, bad download, etc on an aosp operating system that millions of phones have been flashed to and are running fine on.
My wife updated her stock S3 from ICS to jelly bean and had GPS issues for weeks. I had to wipe the whole phone and start over for her.
I would feel stupid if I was you.

I've been using AOSP based ROMs since October and not once have I had a single GPS issue. Sounds like there was definitely a user error. I don't think developers would release a ROM that knowingly disabled your GPS capabilities
I have been using Vanilla RootBox for months now with no issues whatsoever on my Galaxy 4g Touch. I don't understand why you say they ruin your GPS?

I think the forum is for saying the problems and to provide help for our problems....So why i am taking attack? Did i anything bad?

You feel attacked because no one understands your ignorance.
You you had a "personal bad experience" but tell everyone on xda, via this thread, that AOSP is broken and touchwiz is the only way to go. You obviously are overlooking all the posts concerning stock firmware issues. I'm assuming you're also judging an operating system (4.2) that's still in it's beta (nightly) stages. Grab a stable release, follow the directions correctly and be amazed...
The post is for users like me that want it to try TouchWiz ROM but i didn't know that it will ruin my GPS and the only way to fix it again is to go flash another ROM! So please if you don't want to lose your GPS don't flash TouchWiz ROMG!!!
sorry, had to vent opposite. i've had GPS issues with every kind of ROM (TouchWiz and AOSP). just be patient. re-flash the ROM, talk to the dev, or wait for a new version of the same ROM.
Aosp roms do not break gps.

[Q] Most stable rom for the S3?

Ok, after trying a bunch of the cool roms on the board, I've decided to install something and forget about it. Been looking for a nicely tweaked and trimmed down version of the stock rom but can't find anything. The problem is, all of the ones I've tried have some kind of an annoying bug or missing functionality, that ends up being more annoying than it's worth. I dislike the TW launcher, but I guess it's a good trade off for a stable working phone. If there's a themed stock rom (all of touchwiz functionality) minus the kiddie icons, please let me know. I'm using the LiquidSmooth 2.5 official now, and I love this rom, but it has a few too many bugs that are very irritating. For example, the camera is junk. Can't focus if it's life depends on it. I keep getting all kinds of artifacts on screen when unlocking the phone, MMS doesn't work half the time and so on. An ideal rom would be something that looks like LS but functions like stock TW but I guess that's impossible.
So please recommend me a stock based rom. Even if it's just stock rooted with the bloatware removed it would be fine. Thank you so much for your time.
Edit: Forgot to add, phone is US AT&T
There is no most stable rom just stick with what works best for you. Not everyone has the same experience on a rom. This thread is going to be locked.

Every ROM is going to have bugs, or things that dont work out.
thats why there is nighty releases of roms, to get most bugs worked out.
Theyre never going to be bug free because of the constant updates and features being added.
only true bug free is Touchwiz.
like the user above you said, you need too look for something that is stable for YOU.
a search would of let you figure this out, a search would of also pointed in the right direction on where to post questions.
this thread needs to be closed.
XDA is a site for development and what is best (stable) for one is not necessarily best for another, users need to test and read and learn on their own.
