[Q] Failed to get Root! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I followed instructions to gain root access with Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery tool 0.4pre4 but received the following error:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. _rawadb_handle_msg: unexpected CLSE
Failed to get root! :<
Press (almost) any key to exit.
PC firewall & av off, phone's been factory reset, usb debugging and fastboot enabled. No HTC Sync, usb drivers installed.
Am I missing something?
hboot 2.16.0001

[HELP] USB dose not work !!!

Hello everyone,
before i begin explining my problem this my current phone info.
HTC Desire SLCD screen , simfree
HBOOT 0.93
Upgraded from OTA Update in 15 Oct.
my problem began when i downgraded HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.83 ... when i finished downgrading
i tried to root my device but the rooting processes stopped in the middle and write in the screen ''USB brick'' !
i tried several solutions ... and the last one i updated it via OTA
Now, when i connect it to PC while the phone is running nothing happen. and when i connected it in fastboot it connect normally. Also, FM radio dose not work
Now, i can charge my device in two ways:
1- when it power OFF i plug the cable then in power it ON again.
2- i plug it about 3 minutes then it start charging.
i tried to solve this problem in both linux and Windows ....
how can i run the USB normally and how can i root 0.93????
I'm guessing that the Radio has to be updated, but never saw anything like this so please someone correct me if I am wrong
Go to the Development sub forum and search for usb brick. You need re-enable your SD card using a fastboot command, then follow the instructions to fix the misc partition.
@ !panda, This was a common issue with the older root methods, and if a flash went bad. It caused what was called the usb brick. You can tell you have it as your SD card won't work, FM radio, and blutooth won't work, and the charger takes ages to register and start charging the device. Also the phone isn't recognised by any PC, it asks for drivers for a qualcomm device.
The fix listed inthe dev forum works a treat though i had it myself.

unrevoked3 not detecting Desire

Everytime i connect my desire via USB charging/disk drive mode and enable USB debugging unrevoked3 forever shows "waiting for device". ALready downloaded and installed the hacked HBOOT drivers located here: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
But they still dont work. I tried searching online but found no answers. I cant even root the phone and proceed to flashing any custom recovery or ROM. A little help please?

[Q] How to recover RECOVERY?

Hi guys!
Today I tried to get the rooted desire with Android 2.2 with unrevoked 3.21
Previosly I updated to 2.29.405.2 SW
When I run the unrevoked it (desire) freezed on "waiting for root" step. Desire freezed in boot progress (white screen with HTC logo on it)
I removed battery and inserted it again. But I cant boot it, desire freezes on the same white screen with HTC logo.
I can HBOOT, but when I go to recovery menu my device goes to reboot and freez.
So it seems that unrevoked spoiled my recovery and I do not know hot to fix it.
Please guide me, the working solution will be donated $20

Radio version: 5.11.05.27.
SPL/hboot version: 0.93.0001.
product: bravo.
mid: pb9920000.
security: on.
build-mode: ship.
Device model is not SAPPHIRE - flash old/new disabled.
This device does not have s-off nor eng hboot.

Thanks!
Flash a stock RUU and try again, you can get 2.29.405.2 from my signature. Remember to use a gold card if you had to in the past
How can I flash the RUU without access to recovery?
You should flash it via fastboot.
Hold the back button and turn on your phone to enter FASTBOOT, then connect your phone to the pc with the usb cable and then run the ruu.

Did it as you said, result is the same
After the successful flash procedure thru RUU device went to reboot and freezed at the same white screen state.
Recovery is still unavailable to get into.
Now I will try to get the logged data thru Android SDK.
This thing is really mess me up =( I'm phoneless.
You, guys, are the one and only hope.
I have installed SDK, but I cant see anything in adb logcat but "waiting for device", thogh my device is conneted via fastboot usb.
Any clue?
I had that same issue, and it turns out it was a problem with the earlier version of clockworkmod (2.5.0.1) that had that issue, where freezing occurred at the HTC splash screen.
Try unrevoked again, with the 2.5.0.7 image here:
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img
Make sure you select the image when you start unrevoked.
It might fail a few times (freezing at splash), but if it does, just pull the battery and keep trying....eventually it'll manage to go through.
Good luck =)

Latty, how can I run unrevoked with a desired image if I cant boot the phone to get it recognized by unrevoked?
you have to start the flasher without the phone being connected, then you should be able to select the image (top left of window).

Follow the unrevoked guide to install the drivers. Also uninstall HTC drivers before that.

It still is a driver issue.
Start from scratch..
Remove all HTC Drivers
Reboot
DC from internet
Connect phone in two modes-Android, Fastboot
It should get recognized but drivers shouldnt be installed and you should be prompted for driver location. If you arent prompted, get Device Manager, uninstall the driver which recognized the device.
Now install Unrevoked drivers as per guide.
Phone should be recognized..

Ok, thanks will do it now.
But one more question, should it be recognized from hboot usb mode with "Android Bootloader interface" driver, or from fastboot mode?
Cant confirm that without my phone..
But, I believe drivers would recognize it in both..And seperate drivers too..
A small tip..If you have dual boot, try Unrevoked in another OS in which you havent installed HTC. Should work

Faced with problems
1) I uninstalled HTC Drivers.
2) plugged phone and deleted Bootloader interface device then Boot Interface device.
3) rebooted
4) disconnected from internet
5) plugged and powered device and got Bootloader Interface driver installed without a single promt!!! And Boot interface as well.
So I had no chance to manually set the path to the drivers. And unrevoked still doesnt see the device =(
It turns out that I should try another OS???
PS and the key point, should it be recognized in hboot mode or unrevoked only works with booted to OS devices only?
Not really..But that's the easy way out..
Difficult to show you what exactly to delete..
Mostly these are driver clashes..When you uninstall the driver you should tick the option to delete the driver from system.
Try again and you know you've succeeded when it doesnt find any driver installed, and asks you for the location, when you can choose the unrevoked drivers..
Hm, I cant find any options prompting to delete driver from the system... But I will look into more carefully.
ADDED
Found it, trying now.
Tried, was promted to specify the path to the drivers, installed again and with no luck =( Unrevoked doesnt see the device.
I will try it tomorrow on another PC and with another OS.
Thanks for help, I really appreciate this, and I hope we will find a solution.
PS. Is this problem called USB brick?

Help: Unable to root Desire with unrevoked

I tried to root my Desire GSM (running Android 2.2, stock obviously...) with unrevoked, but every time i try, it gives the following error message (After the phone reboots):
"Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again."
I'm running Winodws7 (driver signature mode...) + hboot drivers and i deinstalled everything from HTC Sync
I also tried it on ubuntu, but it wouldn't even connect to my phone.
Can someone please help me?
PS: I attached a photo from my hboot, if it helps.
When your desire is in hboot as on the picture, what device do you have in windows devicemanager under "android"?
There should be something like "android bootloader interface", with that it worked for me today
You are using unrevoked 3.32? Your usb cable is ok? Are you using any usb hubs, try to avoid them for this kind of work
People reported problems with newer versions of unrevoked.
I rooted mine with 3.21 - no hassle and error-free rooting.
Also check the Hboot driver status valo_lindstroem suggested, if not correct, install them using this method.
thanks for the quick help..
now it works. ;-)
I just check the box for "USB-debugging"

[Q] Problem Installing HBoot

I'm trying to root my desire.
I can't seem to install the HBoot drivers.
HTC Sync is uninstalled.
HBoot Loader is v0.93000000001 (does this affect)
this is what i see when i try to install the HBoot drivers
http://www.mediafire.com/?x1u6gyzthbzqy28
It should work, if you follow these steps.
If you want to root your Desire, you don't need to S-OFF your device. Theese 2 different things. I was running my rooted device without S-OFF (till yesterday).
Use unRevoked method.
http://unrevoked.com/
It's simple and convenient. Additionally, I used Amon Ra Recovery instead of ClockWork.
I hope it helps.
Tried it again still doesn't work...
No idea whats wrong
This is what I did when I first rooted:
1. Install HTC Sync (latest one from HTC website)
2. Unistall HTC Sync but leave the drivers
3. Turn phone on into HBOOT and connect to the PC and allow Windows to install the right driver
4. Then change to FASTBOOT and do the same
5. Then disconnect phone
6. Start unrEVOked
7. Boot phone into normal Android and make sure USB Debugging is turned ON
8. Connect phone and allow unrEVOked to do its thing
