Coming from a galaxy S3 and S4 with the same MHL cable, i've noticed the odd native screen res on this tablet messes with output on my HDTV giving large black bars on left and right of the screen.
is there any custom rom, kernel, or app i can install to fix this? i bought this for a media player, so fixing this is a big deal.
thanks for the help.

Hello..
I bought a HDMI cable for my phone, it only works with stock video player (that doesn't play .avi and any other format) You-Tube, slideshow and very short things. I was wondering if there's a player that can output through HDMI cable? Thanks!

Try one of the FullHDMI apps from the market. There are two of them there. Once you get that all set up and going, you should be able to use a player like RockPlayer or something, and use the FULLHDMI app to output to your TV. That'd be your best bet. Search in the market for FULLHDMI
Nop, Full hdmi keeps crashing, and when it works it displays black screen
Found an app called Real HDMI but it cost money

Hi, I have a normal 1080p tv. I want to know the difference between share the screen of the phone by hdmi/mhl converter or with media link. The both play the sound of the phone? The lag between phone and tv, the resolution and this things. Thanks in advance.

MHL: displays exactly what's on the phone. The only disadvantages (besides the cable) are that it drains battery fast and heat the phone (not good for your non removable battery life). What you see or hear on the phone is what is displayed on the TV.
Media Link: you get sound and image without issues, a little bit of lag on games. The issue of Media link is (or was, since I sold mine some months ago) that in apps like MX Player, XBMC or certain games, there's a decrease in resolution. To get the same resolution as in the phone you have to use stock gallery app, which is less flexible and versatile than the aforementioned.
Hi!
Is it possible to change screen aspect ratio to 16:9 when the device is connected to a TV over HDMI cable? So far it shows at 16:10, so the borders on the right and left are visible.
Movies played over the built-in meida player would be fitted to the TV screen properly. But! here's a downside: native player supports just a few audio codecs (e.g. no support for AC3) and one can't choose language and subtitles to be displayed. So a sound option would be going with an external video player such as VLC or similar. But ... it doesn't strech
I'm using microUSB HDMI adapter.

Here a link to an app someone made for the Nexus 10.

Sorry apparently it does not work on 4.3 yet. You might able to post in the thread and get some advice though.
So I've tried search everywhere. It seems like when you output via HDMI, there are black bars on the side of the screen and it the image isn't really a full screen resolution. Is there any way to make the output for HDMI properly scale to the TV/monitor resolution? The only thing that does this properly is the stock video app, which sucks when trying to play MKV files cause of no audio. I'm only concerned with playing videos, is there any video app that can do this automatically? Or any way to rescale the resolution to fit the monitor?
The only way I've really seen it work is through some Nexus 10 script, but I'm not rooted
I wanna know too.. Anyway what method u said might work?
Have u tried using screen mirroring in the settings? I'm not sure if it's my third party mhl cable that is the problem as they said it it was unable to start.
If so how come I can't play 4k videos on my galaxy tab s 8.4 yeah sure Samsung it's truly 4k
Tthe tab s screen only has 2k.
Is there a volume booster for it by chance
Yes but I think it has to do something with changing a file to something to make it louder which I wouldnt suggest. I just use the normal equalizer in the music app.
