I used the OTA app on my Nexus 7 (flo) to update to 4.0 beta 3 and when the tablet rebooted vanilla Android was installed. The boot icon is still Paranoid Android, but halo, pie controls, and all the customization settings are gone. Am I doing something wrong? It seemed like a fairly straight forward process.

So those features just haven't been introduced into the new version yet?
It would be nice if the update app didn't pester me to install a new version if it's not finished.

I don't see how it's pestering you. You can turn off notifications.
It's doing what it is supposed to do, which is inform you of an updated version.

"LBE Privacy Guard" not working in rom "Paranoid Android V1.992" on Google Nexus
The app LBE Privacy Guard can be installed and accessed in Paranoid Android V1.992. But once it is allowed "Active Protection Mode" (key to its functionality) and granted Superuser rights the phone kills itself in a loop and is inaccessible with only a restore of a previous state helping. I noticed other users on xda dev. having similar problems. i can not ask in the forum for Paranoid Android V1.992 because i am considered stupid.
LBE is the only app that allows precise management of app permissions, that i could find. i dont understand how anyone can live without it. it also includes a firewall. its free.
Questions:
- does anyone know how to get LBE Privacy Guard running in Paranoid Android 1.992? Is there a general problem in that rom that is going to be fixed with V2.0?
- is there any other app to disallow permissions? (that is not killing my phone?!?)
thanks in advance and kudos to the creators of paranoid android. and to the makers of LBE Privacy Guard.
That app is yet to be update to support jelly bean. It's not a problem with paranoid android
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
thanks kyokeun1234,
i should have thought of that. i used paranoid android V1.5 on Android 4.0 ICS, on that LBE worked well. just 2 days ago i updated to paranoid android V1.992 which also included an update of the android version to 4.1 JB.
do you have an idea how to manage permissions in Jelly Bean? I don't want to live without that.

right now i cant check as i did not install it, because it could kill my phone. shortly ago Paranoid Android received an update to version 2.0 and than 2.1. i am running the install of PA 2.1 right now. after everything runs and i made a backup of the stable system i will give LBE another try and report on the version. maybe it works. i also wrote the developer of LBE an email, but no reply as of now, duh, propably got to the spam folder.
@qtwrk: do you know of any app that allows to manage permissions? that seems *so crucial* to me.

permission denied is an app that had this feature...
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
guess what: after updating to PA 2.1 ... still same problem. LBE will kill the phone with only a restore as a fix. VERY BAD. Verson of LBE was 3.0.1009.
tried Permissions Denied, but thats crap. no good UI. no mentioning of the permission that allows to read the phones IMEI and in-free-app claim that paid version has more features. does paid version allow to configure IMEI-reading-permission??? who knows...
firewall can at least disallow connections of apps
what version of LBE?

Anyone finding that Dolphin 9.0 says it's incompatible with the Nexus 7 running stock 4.1.2?
I just went to install the new Jetpack add on, and found that the version running on my N7 is older (8.5 something) versus my phone (running a CM10 based ROM with 4.1.2 in it).

Doesn't look like jetpack is available yet for tablets. Where jetpack requires 9.0 where you found out that the current N7 has an older version.
On an off note, there is a Dolphin for Pad version. Made for Android tablets. However the browser is not compatible with the jetpack add on...yet. Be patient, I'm sure they will come out with a tablet version soon.
Thanks for confirming.

Just received a response from Dolphin support:
I'm so sorry for the inconvenience.
We find the issue occurs while installing Dolphin Browser on tablets. And we are currently working on it. Please keep update with us.

+1 Was just about to ask the same question, its the same on 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 "not supported on your device" i can install jetpack though, gutted because its a really smooth browser, why isnt chrome that smoooth!?
What i did was sideload the dolphin 9 apk from a titanium backup on my phone. Just shared it to google drive and installed from that app on my nexus...installs just fine and jetpack works as intended.

Is flash compatible with Dolphin?
Dolphin is visible in the app store again. They must have fixed the compatibility flags.
I seriously doubt if the new version works with Flash though - we had to use a specific older version for that.
Someone install the new one and try it!

Yep..they fixed it and I can install it on my tablet today. Last night it wouldn't.
Really fast browser....but why don't they make the interface better? You have to press 3 buttons to get to share or settings.
Anyone have issues with 9.0 constantly crashing? I've never had it either just "disappear" or pop up a "Dolphin has Crashed, E-mail debug log" before today, and it's happened twice in the space of 5 mins with the latest update.

Yeah, wiping its data cleared up my FC issues.
But I had to revert to the previous version- the context menu (long-press) is gone on images, so I can't save them anymore. I've reported it though, so hopefully it'll come back in the next version.

They released an update to Jetpack (go figure) that fixed this today, so I'm now up-to-date!
Hello, I have a grouper, nexus 7 2012 wifi, android 4.4.2, unlocked and rooted and I have just flashed PA 4.0 BETA as it is the only download shown on the ParanoidAndroid.co website download section.
Anyway, all seemed to go well, no errors and my nexus booted correctly:
About Tablet shows: ParanoidAndroid Version 4.0-BETA, Build number - pa_grouper-userbug 4.4.2 KOT49H....
However, I can not for the life of me see any PA settings in "Settings". There is an app called Paranoid OTA but this seems to be concerned with keeping PA upto date.
Can anyone suggest where the PA settings are, how to enable them or what is going wrong please?
Any help appreciated.
Chris

Please refer to the change log for currently available custom options and where they are located.
With the 4.4 update, the ROM is being rebuilt from the ground up. As this is the initial release, the standard PA features are not yet included as they are still being worked on.
Hey everyone, this might be a total noob question, but I'm relatively new to the whole custom rom thing, so bear with me.
I've been recently messing around with many roms just to see what I've liked and disliked. So far my favorite has been Paranoid Android. Today I flashed the beta of the 4.4.x release and have been very pleased with it. The only issue is that the OTA update apk doesn't seem to be anywhere. I've re-flashed the rom, but that hasn't helped. Any advice?

I'm not sure if non-nexus device maintainers build with PA OTA by default...they can include it but they would have to make some changes and upload their files to Goo.im
You'd have to contact your maintainer to see if it's included or not.
Ah that makes a lot of sense. The ROM turned out to be pretty unstable all around (at least for me) so I'm now running a CM 11 nightly. Once a stable release is made for PA, I'll flash that and if the app isn't included, I'll ask. Thank you for your time and help.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The app won't do any good unless the maintainer puts their builds on goo and modifies the ota app to point to it. The standard ota app only works for the devices the team has listed on their site

I extracted the latest ParanoidOTA.apk from PA 4 beta 3. Just install it like any other apk and grant it SU permissions. Take it.

There is no point in this unless your device is hosted on the official servers or the app is modified to look at some other server which hosts your device builds.
The only thing installing this would provide is updates for GApps
Hi there
I'm planning to flash both my Nexus 7 WiFi & Nexus 5 to Paranoid Android 4.0 Beta 3.
I've always loved PA and it seems nice to have both of my devices running on it.
Though, I wonder about updates. If, in some time, Beta 4 happens to come around, will I be able to update through the OTA update app?
Although I know it's a beta, I'm planning to have a few games and stuff on it and I don't want to lose all my data and stuff when the update is going to happen.
I've read something about that OTA updates are actually "dirty flashes" and it can mess up some things on your device.
What's the best way to update?
Thanks a lot

Yes it is a dirty flash but as on the same rom this does not effect anything and will be fine.
Happy flashing.
