I recently got a Kindle Fire HD (7-inch) for Christmas. I was using it a bit (installed nothing) and turned it back on...The keyboard won't pop-up (for my password) and sometimes the unlock swipe doesn't respond. I can't get into my KF. Thank god I enabled ADB before this happened. The only problem is that I don't have a "factory" cable to reset it. Is the cable something that Amazon would send me if I contacted them or is the cable an "after-market" thing. Or is there a way that I can reset it (from the lockscreen) at all without the cable? Thanks in advance.

Please help. Used the one-click to install, had issues with my computer finding the Kindle. I restarted the Kindle, however, now the Kindle immediately shuts down when I attach any USB cable (wall cord, factory USB, or USB). I am able to power up only when the USB cable is not attached to the Kindle. Has anyone seen this before? What can I do to fix this?
The Kindle works fine when not plugged in. I'm leaving it plugged in overnight to see if it allows a charge. I've tried the hard reset (no change), and using the factory cable (immediately shuts down). It's strange, because the Kindle is aware of a signal when I plug the cord in, so I hope that I'm right in thinking that it's not a hardware issue.
Any suggestions to fix this would be most appreciated.
Thank for your help.
I saw a similar situation a while back. The user had a demo KF2.
If yours is a demo, that may be why.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a demo? I purchased the Kindle new through Amazon.
UPDATE: I left the Kindle plugged in overnight, and it fully charged the unit. This has to be a software issue, I'm thinking. Is there a way to perform a software reset on this unit without using the USB?

Six quick presses on the power button should start a factory reset on the default software. I never tried it myself while I was on the normal software.

Just tried, all it's doing is changing the lock screen. Am I doing this right?
If you have normal use of the device while unplugged, just go to Settings > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults

Yes tried that too. Lost root, but no luck with usb access.
Greetings,
I dropped my Galaxy SIII pretty hard and the screen went purple for a bit, then completely black. The phone appears to be working (vibrating on startup, back and menu buttons light up) I hear that the screen and digitizer are busted. Luckly, I insured the phone so I can get another.
Phone is completely stock ROM
Phone is NOT rooted
Debugging Mode is NOT on
USB mode only can be activated by swipe down
I tried running AndroidScreenCast, but my phone's serial does not appear when running adb devices.
Is there any other way?
Bonus points - Can I hook up an HDMI cable from mini-usb and view the screen? Can I use a usb hub and have a kb, mouse AND hdmi cable?
Bump
Will HDMI cable work? I don't want to purchase one and have it not work!
You can try using push adb to launch file explorer on windows, pull off all oh your data and then replace your phone. Happened to me a few months ago, but I chose to replace the screen myself.

Thanks for the reply. How much was the screen? Was it hard to replace?
I have warranty, but it is a $200 deductible.
Heya guys! I just got my kindle fire 2 today, I had this same problem with my previous kindle as well.
I have a fastboot cable but it serves useless at this point. The kindle will not turn on at all; no screen, no power light, nothing.
My guess: I f**ked up on flashing the bootloaders
My solution: ???
Ideas or a fix? I'd rather not call Amazon (again)
If its hard bricked you can do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415870
Some insight from the original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391047
This is usually above what most people can/are willing to do to fix it though. If you do get it hooked up and need to know what to do next, look at the original thread toward the last pages, it tells the command to run. Or see if kurohyou will fix it, but he seems busy with college.

Hello i have the same problem... My Kindle Fire HD is bricked, not turning on - black screen, led lights not flashing. Is there any other way to fix the problem without soldering? Thanks for help!
Unless you want to lose the data and send it into amazon for a free replacement, then the answer is no. Also you said you are on a HD, the contacts on that model haven't been mapped yet so we really don't have a way worked out to hook it up to a sdcard reader yet.

I have a friend here at work that has a Kindle Fire and some how he lost his Action Drop Down Menu that allows him to get to settings and all that. He took it to Bestbuy where he bought it and they were not able to help him. So I suggested to him to root it and then put an Android OS on it. He was telling me with the root directions he found they require him having to access the settings area which he can not do with out the drop down action menu. I told him about XDA and how awesome this site was, so I decided to inquire on his behalf. Does anyone have any suggestions for him?
after plying with it myself i see there is more to this than just the action drop down missing. The whole top bar is not there. The time, wifi indicator, and notification bar is missing. There seems to be the background image of the shelf and all that is not there as well. it is as if there are files missing at first glance at this. Not sure how this can happen but... He says that his daughter uses it for facebook and other social apps, but there is something majorly missing on this one. Just to give an update...
If signed in a google account on kindle, go to google play store with PC/Mac and install a different launcher.
I it a Fire 1 or 2.

it is currently in my possession for a few hours as I try and figure this out. He just told me that this is a Kindle Fire HD i thought it was just a Kindle Fire. Whenever you try and access anything you get a blank screen. it is on but nothing shows up. In order to get back to the home screen you have shut it down (soft reset) then then turn it back on. this is very weird. however i do have access to the file system when I plug it into my pc.
I try and go to anything the first thing that comes up is that there is no connection. I hit the button for wifi setting then it goes to a blank black screen. in order to get back to the home screen i have to soft reset it again.
I don't even think there is a way to factory reset with out being able to have that drop down menu to access the settings is there?
Should be a reboot to recovery option when it's booting up, in recovery you can factory reset

I am also having the exact same problem and can’t figure out how to access the settings without a drop down menu, HELP!

Try booting in safe mode
If that doesn't work, you can try to boot into recovery. The Recovery menu exists on the 4K stick and earlier FireTVs, I don't know if it still exists on the 4k Max, but worth a shot.
How to unbrick by entering Recovery Mode and Factory Reset the Amazon Fire TV
If you've managed to brick your Fire TV or for whatever reason are unable to get to the settings menu to perform a factory reset, here is how to enter recovery mode without fully booting into the Fire TV's operating system.

If neither of those two options work, it's time to use the 1-year warranty and get it replaced.
Both options don't work. Mine is already on the way to Amazon for repair/replacement
Is there a way to fix it without a keyboard? Heard something about ADB and connecting the Firestick to a computer, but it hasn't worked.
User authorization is needed to connect a new device via ADB. If you haven't connected your computer to your FireStick before already, and granted authorization, you won't be able to now, since the authorization screen only shows on your TV after you have already booted up.
There is also no guarantee that the system is booting far enough to start ADB on the FireTV.

That sucks, although understandable. Any other ways to get out of the bootloop or an USB keyboard dongle is needed?

Without a keyboard the only way to influence the Stick is with your remote. And all you can do with the remote is initiate a factory reset
Press and hold the Left button, Menu button, and Back button at the same time.
But this only works if you get far enough in the boot process for the remote to connect.
Hello, a while ago a friend gave me a fire tv to see if it could be fixed, the problem is that it doesn't update, I restored it from the factory but it's still the same, any help is welcome

Try a hotspot on the phone and connect the Fire TV stick to the hotspot from the phone. I had the same problem and with hotspot it worked.
Hello, tell me pliz, is there a way to fix this?
after turning it on, it immediately gets into the Recovery mod,
if you connect the keyboard, it only reacts to combinations of 5 buttons which makes the factor default, but just a quick overload and again recover
up and down buttons do not respond, input and remote too,
I tried to connect to AbdLink, it seems like the device is seen but writing unauthorized
does not respond to reboots from the application.
Is there any chance to fix this?
PS. Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max was bought in November, nothing was manipulated with it.

Hi,
I've had exactly the same screen on boot, find a way to exit and recover my firestick 4K with a keyboard (not wireless connected to USB) and press Alt + Print Screen + c (not "i" as i see everywhere), depending on keyboard layout you'll have to press Fn for Print Screen.
Successfully restarted my stick without loosing any data or app.
Hope it will help ;-)
