Home button flashes recent apps list - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I have both the 2012 and 2013 N7's, both updated to 4.4.2. I've noticed that with both of them, tapping the home button when in another app briefly flashes the recent apps window. It would just be a minor annoyance, but I still use the PowerStrip app, which uses a double press of the home button to open. The recent apps window screws this up. Since it's happening on both of my devices, I thought I'd check if anyone else is seeing this behavior on the newest rom. If not, it's possible there's an app somewhere messing it up, but it's a new problem with my 2012, I haven't noticed it before the past week or so. Nothing has changed on the 2012 N7 except for the new firmware. So, anyone else seeing this?

Not at all. I also recently had a new 2012 N7 I bought for a gift and didn't see anything like that after updating it to 4.4.2.

Doesn't happen here aswell.
You probably have something messing it up like an app or something.

[VIDEO] One X Screen Issues [VIDEO]

Hi XDA,
Apologies for the title, however wanted to gain attention to a recent video that I have recorded and placed on YouTube. I've been experiencing major banding issues, worse than I can find any videos of on YouTube, just wanted to see if it's software related or not, anyway please check out my video!
Thanks.

Thanks, did do a quick search but couldn't find it. Am I right in saying that an OTA should fix all this?
do this and let me know.
disable fast boot ---> in settings - power - fastboot
enable animations -- display
disable htc 3 fingers
that made the trick for me.

Followed these instructions, still does the exact same thing with the status bar and youTube
How to reproduce the screen corruption
Ok, this is just odd, but is 100% reproducible on my One X.
Start by killing all tasks in Task Manager (or ideally, a fresh reboot).
Open the camera - all should be well.
Tap home, and then bring down the notification bar.
Drag the bar back up slowly, and hover when you line up with the status bar - the corruption should appear in the top left. Repeat this until you get corruption.
Now open the camera app - corruption down the edge just like the YouTube Video.
Want it to go away? Use Settings/Apps/Running and find FM Radio. Kill it. If you can't see it, be sure to check the cached processes (via the menu). Make sure FM Radio is not loaded.
Now open the camera again. Corruption is gone.
Can everyone with v1.26 reproduce this?
Software: 1.267.206.2
HTC Extension: 403_1_GA_3
Kernel: 2.6.39.4-g6b459dc, [email protected] #1, SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 19 15:35:14 CST 2012

Yeah, it did worked. But I didn't managed to find FM Radio though(checked cached processes but none).
Alternative(which other users may want to try to reproduce):
I managed to get the glitch by loading a pic and keep resizing it and tilt it until the bug occurs.
My speculation is that if there's a lot of image processing(graphic intensive) to be done then it'll happen(which makes me believe that it is a software bug).
EDIT: I tried to kill Sense UI and the corruption is gone. Will try to reproduce it again tomorrow as its hell late now
p/s: these are just speculations, it may not be true as I am not an expert.
How to reproduce the screen corruption
I've used my One X for about a week now, and NEVER ever had the green noise/lines issue before.
The ONLY way to trigger it (so far) is to do the method described below.
After simply turn off the screen for 20 seconds the problem is solved and everything is running as normal
Even with Fast boot permanently turned on.
The way to trigger the this green noise/lines problem is to quickly tap a few times very fast on the notification bar. (the transparent one on the home screen, becomming black every time you touch it)
(Instead of sliding it down and 'waiting' for it to happen, or not... just press te bar 5 times very fast, and the problem occurs EVERY time..
When opening the Camera app after that, the green noise/lines on the side appear.
To get out of the 'green noise/lines mode' simply turn off the screen for 20 seconds, and the problem should be gone
After this you can normally take photo's and watch Youtube movies without encountering the problem.
Can someone with 1.26 confirm this? or even better, someone with 1.28 say this is fixxed?
*I know the 1.28 will fix the glitch triggered by the 'slide down' way but also the 'quick press' method described by me?
I just did a factory reset (from power on vol down boot screen). So far, the screen corruption is gone (pulling the notification bar down doesn't trigger it, and I can't find any other way to trigger it).
Has anyone else tried this?

After i configured my One X for the first time, i discoverd that by clicking on 'make a backup of my phone' also meant that he installed all the apps i installed on my old phone (Desire)
So i did a factory reset to get rid of the apps.
About 1 week later i read about the screen corruption, and was able to create it as described above (pressing very fast on the status bar)
pulling down wasn't triggering it in my case..
Since yesterday i've installed the 1.28 update, and i can confirm that the corruption is totally gone
One more here, guys!
I have the same problem and I found it this morning. When I drag the status bar it happens, but not every time. I'm with 1.26 version and I made factory reset when I took it.
I hope this is only software bug, because I have my phone from only 3 days.
You think that if I let the update it will be all fine???

I'm with 1.28 i just saw what the guy did in the video, tried it myself and the first 3-4 times the screen on the top left corner was doing the same as in the video posted in the first post, than it disappeared.
I had exactly the same issue from day 1, although it was a bit rarer to happen
Flashed a 1.28 custom ROM and the issue is completely gone

I also think that this is software problem. When I still had HD2 and developers started to work on Sense 3.5 first couple of monts that was one of the big problems.
Now I'm with 1.28 version and the problem still exist. I wrote to HTC support about this and now I'm waiting.
If they send me some dumb excuse I will root my phone and put a custom rom.
...
Is there anyone who has returned the phone because of this?

"Ghost" app in app drawer

I've run in to a very odd problem with my Acro S running 6.2.B.1.96 (deodexed).
I've recently noticed a blank space at the top left of the first page of my app drawer. This is with the app drawer sorted alphabetically which is how I normally have it. If I choose one of the other orderings the blank space still appears, but in a different place. For example, sorting by "Most used" it appears about half way through, after an app which I know last used back in mid-June. On the other hand, sorting by "Recently installed" it appears before an app which I know I installed only the other week.
I can't run the app by tapping on it in the app drawer - nothing happens. But if I long-press on the empty space then the "Add to Home screen" panel drops down from the top of the screen and I can drag the invisible app and drop it on to the Home screen (I can even drop it on top of another app to create a folder!) I can't run the app from the Home screen either, but if I press and hold on the place where I dropped it then the trashcan pops up at the bottom of the screen and I can drop the invisible app in there to remove it from the Home screen.
If, in the app drawer, I select "Uninstall" from the menu, no little red cross appears in the space occupied by the invisible app, so I can't get rid of it that way.
I've installed & run Malwarebytes and AVG antivirus and neither of them have flagged anything which could be causing this.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I can go about establishinig the identity of this mystery app, and either making it visible or uninstalling it?
If you got problems with Windows a reinstall will fix it, I would say the same now.

I don't know a solution, but are You on a leaked build or the official one? Because the 6.2.B.1.96 leaked build had those ghost app in them.
It's an official build, been on there since last August. The ghost app only showed up in the last week.
I've tried recovering from a nandroid I took about a month back. I first tried doing just a restore of system, but the ghost app was still there. After a full restore the ghost app was gone. However, I am now having issues getting contacts to work- it simply reports "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" - so I may have to recover back to the nandroid I took this morning before I did the restore and then maybe start all over again. Sigh...

Oh. Try taking backup of contacts and clearing data of contacts app from settings. It might work.
Well I got rid of it in the end, but it was a tortuous process. I restored a system backup (nandroid) made about a month ago, then recovered data for apps that keep it locally from the latest Titanium backup (which runs every night). E-mail & contacts restored automatically from the cloud. I then had to carefully update every outdated app, checking the app drawer each time to see if the ghost reappeared. It never did. I still don't have any explanation for what actually caused it in the first place. Quite frustrating, and very boring!

Phone Freezes Up When Pressing Back Button On Nav Bar in Strange Way

So, I got my new Pixel XL (128 GB, Quite Black, Google Store), and activated it with Project Fi a few days ago. Today, I noticed a bizarre issue. So far, I'm only able to get it to occur consistently in the Play Store. When pressing the back button on the navigation bar to return to the previous screen, the phone locks up, but not completely. The app and the back button both become completely unresponsive to touch, the volume buttons do not do anything, but the overview, home, and power button still function as normal. Navigating away from the app, or turning the screen off and back on fixes it, but it happens consistently enough to be very irritating. However, I can't get it to happen consistently enough to isolate a cause, or to capture a screen recording of it. It seems, though, to be more likely that it is app related, but that also seems strange given that it is the Play Store. The only other correlation I can find is to the Keyboard (which I'm using GBoard). Sometimes, it seems to occur after using the keyboard to search the store.
Does anyone have any suggestions/tips/etc. on a way to deal with it? Its hardly a fatal issue, but strange, and I'm curious if anyone knows what this could be.
Also, a side question: is it even worth unlocking/installing mods/etc.? I got 5+ hours of SOT with my first full charge cycle, curious if anyone has any input.

I recommend unlocking so at least if you ever have a bad ota update you can still fix you're device with a new factory image. As far as the lag issues. I had something similar when Gboard first came out. What is you're current build. You may need to update you're phone.

I'm on the May image, and all my apps are up to date (aside from staggered update I may not have received, always possible). I'll wait for the June image to come out tomorrow and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the input on both fronts!
Although, if I unlock the bootloader I may fall all the way down the rabbit hole, haha.

Nothing wrong with falling down the rabbit hole lol. Personally I run stock system with my mod pack. Gives me incredible battery cuz it's stock system but I also get to have some custom tweaks. Best of both worlds.

Any particular mods? I've been flashing/modding/etc since my Droid Razr M but reading around on the Pixel XL forums is the first time I've felt out of my depth again - all this A/B partition stuff, changes to the way root and GApps work, etc. seems so different.

Android OTA 8.0.0 update issues

Both my S7A and my girl's S7 Edge got the upgrade to OTA 8.0.0 from 7.x.x within a week of each other. They appear to be very similar as far as the changes go, but a few things have us very disturbed. First, battery life has been significantly reduced since the upgrade on both devices. Mine got a new battery installed by Samsung in February, so it is not an age problem. Another issue is the widget we both used to force stop background/unresponsive programs is now gone and nothing is available to replace it. This is a major issue as any time an unresponsive app happens the only way to clear it is to reboot the phone. We both were the habit of stopping BG apps and I think this may be contributing to battery drain. A few, like the SiriusXM app, never shut down completely without being force stopped. Then there is the issue with sharing content. When clicking the Share button for anything the menu that comes up never has the various app icons in the same place. Since the FB, Messenger and now Text icons are all blue and very similar this often results in clicking the wrong one because your mind remembers where you clicked last and muscle memory kicks in. Anyone else seeing issues with this latest update?

Not sure what that would accomplish as I already have the update. I'm trying to find out if anyone else has seen these or other issues with the OTA version of 8.0.0 pushed out by AT$T. Last I remember, Odin was for putting alternative ROMs on rooted devices.
These are some pretty specific issues and I don't perform the activities you do, so I can't comment. For "Sharing", the icons are what they are, just pick carefully.

Just odd that the icons would rearrange every time you hit Share. Does it even when used within seconds of the last time I hit Share.

Question Ul Glitches

Had the fold since the 22nd and really loving it. Few things bugging me. Anyone else experiencing UI Glitches from time to time? Examples are the app tray displaying blank which I had to restart the phone to resolve. Outlook app the mail box panel empty even after a closed the app fully was still blank. Scrolling through twitter and often the display flickers at the bottom? Any other users finding things like this? Hoping for a early update from Samsung to flush any ealry bugs
I am holding it since 23rd and it has absolutely been a godsent device
No issues. No hiccups. 256 gb version.
Maybe an update will resolve the issue for you.
Can't say that I'm experiencing these issues.
A hear most to a fresh install not using smart switch which I did. Maybe the time saving was not worth it? do you still use a backup or literally re install everything
I did use Smart Switch and no glitches. It works flawlessly for me.
There is a OneUI update in the Samsung store I noticed.

Haven't experienced the issues you've mentioned at all. I've had the ZF4 since Aug. 23.
Chrome beta has a glitch on the tabs, mentioned it right from the start. Sure its just teathing issues with the new chipset. USA have had a firmware (pre launch, not checked if its ahead or in line with European launch firmware) so sure something will be along soon, as the security updates are over a month old too.
