Hi guys!
I recently got a nexus 7 2013 for christmas, what a device
It came with 30% battery, which went so fast! I knew that was going to happen
this is the first time its been charged too 100% and its on 68% with 2hours and 23minutes of screen on time, not great considering everyone else is getting 7 hours plus
So my question is, will it get better?
Many thanks, Jack

We need a lot more info than that. What were you doing for 2hrs and 23mins, watching a movie? I'm sure that you know that different things affect the battery, and it is hard to tell what's going based on the info given.
And for the record, I can get incredible battery life if I set my display to stay on, and let it sit there. Just saying....
Also, please provide a screenshot, if possible. Thanks.

If you do the math, with your current usage, you would get 7 and half hours of screen on time.
100-68 percent left = 32 percent used. 143 minutes screen on time / 32 percent = 4.47 minutes per 1 percent battery. So 4.47 X 100 = 447 minutes which equals 7 hours and 27 minutes.

Go to settings - location - and disable the location (choose no). I noticed that the battery drain is way faster if you have it on, even if it's only for device. Atleast for me, it worked and I now have way more battery life time. Sorry for my english.
So you used 20% of your battery with +2h of screen time and you're complaining?
Sounds about right to me anyway.
Battery-life is very good of the N7-2013! :good:

not sure what to say about that, because im using starburst and am getting no where near that much
your screen isnt on that much, but i do see a lot of awake time, so the day is impressive. but i have to assume your brightness level was at like 5% or something? and seems like an 8hour period where you had no wifi or radio no?
Screen is on auto Wi-Fi was off while at work and while sleeping everything else was just texting and brief calls and some status updates via twitter Facebook and G+

Nice. My display on Starburst seems to take most of my battery life, but i haven't had the chance to really test it
You need to show on screen time. That is the most important part of how well battery is......If you do not turn your phone on, who cares if it lasts all day.
I am not rooted and have gotten 4 hours of on screen time being unplugged for 15.5 hours and plugging in at 5% battery left.
Those are the numbers that interest me and I don't think you can get much better then that even after rooting but I would love to see some stats to prove me wrong.

For me this is pretty Impressive, I'm coming from the samsung vibrant and I'm used to getting 9 hours tops with out doing anything on the phone so me getting a full 24 hours out of it doing things that I like to do for me is a big deal. if it doesn't impress you sorry but I'm pretty darn excited about getting this kind of life out my phone for my day to day use!

Yeah bro you need to click on display and snapshot that. The most I got out of it was 5.5 hours of on screen time. Which is pretty good. There are other phones, (gay iPhone), that can get like 8hours of display time until dead. That would be amazing for Android. I give it another 1-2 years and we will have Androids that embarass iPhone. This phone definitely kicked up the performance and added a bigger battery, so it will get easier as we go along.

- Used the phone as I would normally without thinking about battery at all.
Very very happy. UPDATED with recent screenshots before I plugged it in.

Out of interest, how many times have you charged your phone (0%-100%)?
Never drained it to zero and started using it right away without charging it. Its been charged to 100 twice already. My uptime is 73 hours and that's exactly how long I've had the phone.

Honest question, how many times are you more than 12 hours from sleeping or relaxing in your house?
12 hours is more than adequate for a normal user
This is mine after a fresh wipe and no apps installed. Just thought i`d see how it did with normal use.
Here's mine; at a point the phone got itself shut down for some reason, and I couldnt get it restarted at that moment, so I left it like that, and when I could turn it back on, it was quite warm around the camera unit, and also the battery was pretty much drained - thats what you can also see on the screenshot at the "20minutes" part of t he scale. After I've removed the battery and put it back, the phone was working for quite a while again, like 12 more hours.
I'm sure auto brightness helps as it keeps screen dim but during my use it was brighter especially outdoors. My whole point is there is no secret, you should use the phone as you would like it. One thing I could have done I'm sure to improve battery life is turn off wifi and bt when they weren't in use and possibly not have as many apps running but then what's the point in having the phone?: D

I get around 11-13 hours. Not too impressed. My iPhone 4S gets 20 easily. I'm really conservative on my Nexus too because doing anything intensive (games, video recording, youtube etc) really rapes the battery. I'm guessing some of you turn off auto sync or something.

It's simple really - the more you use the phone the worse battery life is but that's because you used the phone more! I never use the phone LESS just for battery life because then you're doing yourself and the phone injustice.

Here's mine. Since I was at work all day I only got time to play Dillo Hills for about 20 mins but I've found the battery is REALLY good after flashing the Android Revolution ROM. MoDaCo causes too much drain IMHO.
Battery life isn't too bad on mine. I got mine on the 10th and I used it right out of the box. Battery life wasn't that great until I did a charge to 100%. The OTA update didn't change much for me in regards to battery. Currently at 21h uptime and I'm at 32%.
Fully charged my LTE Nexus while it was on and then fully charged while it was off. Restarted the phone, haven't done anything with it in 30 mins and it's already down 4% to 96%. What's the deal?!?!?
Someone said in another thread... if you look at your Android System usage in the battery meter, its way too high... sounds like a bug - apparently a custom kernel has fixed this, but I havent rooted yet to test it.

Although I prefer the GN, laptopmag.com found that the Rezound and RAZR have clear advantages when it comes to web surfing time on 4G. GSM GN wasn't too impressive either.
"On the LAPTOP Battery Test (web surfing over 4G on 40-percent brightness), the Galaxy Nexus lasted just 3 hours and 40 minutes. That's a full 3 hours less than the smartphone average (6:38), and about 1:20 less than the unlocked Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile's network. By comparison, the HTC Rezound lasted 5:03 and the Droid RAZR lasted 4:48. Verizon Nexus owners may want to turn off 4G when they don't really need it or find other ways to conserve juice."

I forget this every time I get a new phone!! It's odd considering I load roms very, very frequently on whatever phone I have at the time and I know I have to wait a couple of battery cycles for battery life to get acceptable with any new rom, but I can't seem to remember it with a new phone!
I'm going to chill and wait and see.
Also, let it die completely and then charge it up 100000% (leave it charging overnight if you can). This is a good way to "train" the battery.

Do NOT do this whatever you do. You should never completely drain a Li-Ion battery except when calibrating it after flashing a rom. Draining li-ion batteries hurts its battery life.

Well, that's what the other poster is talking about. "training" = calibrating.
It doesn't harm a thing letting them drain all the way to the point of the phone shutting down. I've been doing this for all my phones, new roms, etc. I always end up with excellent battery life.

Sorry, but you are wrong.
Deep discharges do "harm" a LiIon battery physically (there is damage done to the membranes in the battery at a molecular level).
You will get about ~500 full (deep) discharges from your battery, but you will get more than double of that if you only discharge to 50% and more if you discharge even less. So the best thing is to charge your LiIon cell as often as possible, with the exception that it's also not healthy for the cell to be at full charge voltage (4.20 V) for a prolonged time either.
Yikes. You people with good battery life are lucky haha. I'm on my 6th charge and I still get around an hour and forty minutes of battery life. I'm at like 50% after an hour or so... and that's with LTE off too...

No. Something is wrong on your end. Check for any apps running the background that shouldn't be running at all.

Open the battery utility to see what is consuming the highest percentage of power.
The display is one of the biggest power consumers. What level is your brightness at? The new N7 can achieve almost 600 nits. That is ridiculously high. The ipad 3/4 and Mini max out around 400 nits. I've found 200 to be a good compromise between battery life and ease on the eyes.
I have. I even factory restored. The standby time is great but once I start using it the battery just drains like that
I would let the device die completely and charge it up to 100% and use it intensely for a bit and track it. My experience with Android is to let the first few cycles of battery settle in the kernel and all that. Sometimes Unix takes a few days to get acquainted with it's space in my experience.

I got battery issues as well only 5 hours of on screen time........ You can get "Better battery stats" free from Xda, but I can tell you I've checked and nothing is running in the background, deep sleep is good but it dies after about 5 hours of using it. Most of the battery issues I've seen have all had the 5 hour screen on time problem, I don't know I just find that really weird but oh well
I'm also getting average of 5hrs screen on time. Nothing is draining the battery as far as I can tell. Today for instance I took it off the charger and went out. 7hrs later it had 96% with 6 minutes on screen time. It's at 13hrs on with 5 hrs on screen time mostly chrome, Twitter, instagram, Google+, quick games of words with friends and draw something 2 five minutes each game max if that. I would kill for anything close to 7hrs let alone 9hrs. Also the touch sensitivity goes bonkers often with my Nexus registering touches pretty far from where my finger is. I think I might just try and exchange it. Brightness at 20% maybe.

Battery Test
I pulled my new N7 off the charger thsi morning and decided to test the battery because it seemed to be draining too quickly for my taste. I streamed two movies, Star Trek (2009) from Google Play and The Apostle from Showtime Anytime. that is only 4 hours and 20 minutes of movies. My tablet died before the Apostle finished. Had about 20 minutes left on it.
I am not satisfied with this paltry battery life. Google website said it would run 9 hours of movies non stop. 4 hours isn't even close. There are several "comparisons" out there but they only compare what the company said. I am not sure the battery is all it is cracked up to be. I am going to do some further testing but right now it looks like I will forego the New Nexus 7 and pick up a Kindle Fire HD. That battery life does last for hours and for what I need it will suit me fine.
I welcome your comments.

Yeah the battery is terrible for some. There's a chance our nexus 7's are defective but maybe a software update will fix it? Who knows
I have same problems. Only about 5 hours screen on time, and it drains quick if I am streaming especially with Netflix.
Hi guys. My battery does great until it hits 25% at which point it drains fast for unknown reasons. Is it possible that one part of the battery is defective, such that the battery does fine until it has 25% left? Is there a fix for that? Or is it possible to remove the battery and replace it with a new one?

What do you mean by 'fast'. I've had my ALOO for 2 years and have noticed a slight reduction in overal battery life (as to be expected) which does appear to drain slightly quicker after 25% but it could not be described as "fast".

So it goes from 25% to zero within 2 hours with similar usage prior to it eaching 25%. I'd call that fast
Mine takes about 18 hours to reach 25% from full charge with normal usage then about 4 hours to reach zero. I dont consider that fast but power lose is quicker.
Hence my question. Fast is meaningless without sone form of a definition.

Mine takes about 18 hours to reach 25% from full charge with normal usage then about 4 hours to reach zero. I dont consider that fast but power lose is quicker.
Hence my question. Fast is meaningless without sone form of a definition.

My phone takes 3 - 4 days from full charge to 25%. Thereafter it drains to 0% in less than 6 hours.
Mostly everyone who owns a 20x have similar battery life with exception to those with abnormal drain myself and another user on this thread included.
Fast is a relative term yet everyone understands 'fast' when compared to the rest of their battery life.
So we have very similar usage and drain times. I've just put that down to one of those things to be expected as the battery gets older. i.e. not abnormal. Guess it's down to a matter of differing expectaions/perceptions.

No we dont have similar drain times. You said this:
"Mine takes about 18 hours to reach 25%. So it goes from 25% to zero within 2 hours with similar usage prior to it reaching 25%."
Contrast to my battery of 3 - 4 days normal usage followed by a steep decline from 25% - 0% in less than 6 hours.
I dont see the similarity between our phones.
.
18 hours normal usage for me = 3 to 4 days for me. That's about 6 to 4.5 hours usage per day.

How is 18 hours used up til you hit 25% the same as 3 - 4 days of battery use?? You make 0 sense
