Hey guys...been trying to put a custom rom on my galaxy s4 sgh-i337m (rogers-canadian)...I keep on getting boot loops every time I go through the process; i've tried paranoid, carbon, pac man...none of them work, I've tried three different cwm versions, going through the process of wiping system, cache, dalvik cache etc. before flashing the roms...and i've unrooted my phone a few times, flashing the stock os but for some reason everytime I try to install a custom rom I can't get past this boot loop issue. I'm thinking maybe it's a kernel incompatibility but i'm not too sure. Any help would be much appreciated!
You should try the s4 forums

I have been trying a number of different methods to fully root my EVO, yet for the life of me, cannot get a new ROM to flash properly. Each time I try flashing a new ROM, I end up in an endless boot loop & must go back into my SD card & rename my stock ROM back to 'PC36IMG.zip' in order to get out of it. I have heard that this sometimes happens from not erasing the dalvik cache, yet I have tried that too & still no luck.
Does anyone maybe have some pointers on why I may be experiencing this issue each time? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
you rename your stock rom to pc36img.zip? What is a stock rom? Where did you ever read to do that?
I don't know what directions you read, but Something is very wrong.
Well it's A stock ROM that I picked up during the many different methods of rooting I have tried... For some reason, that has been the only way to get my phone to boot after trying to flash a ROM to it...
Most of the time if you wind up in a boot loop after flashing a new rom it's because you didn't wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache before flashing.
If you are using clockwork recovery it may be your problem. It has been reported to not complete wipes fully leading to post flash boot loops. Try amon-ra recovery.
Greetings!
I've had my S2 for a few months now, and have been running PA 2.11 since the begging of September. So I've decided to upgrade to the latest and greatest, and everything I flash a new rom, I get stuck in a boot loop. I've tried the latest PA, PAC, LiquidSmooth, All-Star and slim bean. Each time, boot loop. I'm using the latest CMR. Current kernel is Cyanogen 3.0.42. My process is essentially factory wipe, system wipe, clear caches, flash rom, clear caches, reboot, wait 10-20min, reboot, wait an additional 10 min, reboot again. I go back and forth between factory wipe and Darkside Super Wipe, seeing if anything makes a difference, and so far, regardless of my process, I keep getting boot loops. I always follow the flashing instructions the first couple times, then try other options, but keep getting these damn boot loops. Thoughts? Your assistance is much appreciated..

I was using 5.x, but after quite a few boot loop flashes, I upgraded to the latest and greatest with no effect on the outcome.
You're doing way too much. Here:

That's my thread on how to properly wipe before ROM installation.

I normally do...
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
go to Advanced
Wipe dalvik cache
Wipe battery status
Fix permissions (just incase)
Reboot Device
wait about usually 3-8 minutes depends on the ROM. if it's longer then that then your stuck in a boot loop
this is all on done on CWMR v6.0.1.5
So, don't know what the initial issue was with flashing the new ROM, but I took CWR 6.X off and put on 5.0.26 and got All-Stars up and running in no time. Thank you for your help!
How it all happened:
Regular day for the nexus, had just flashed 4.3 PA, twrp recovery on, stock PA kernel.
put xlouder and franco kernel on
boot to recovery
flash franco
flash xlouder
wipe cache/dalvik
reboot.
its stuck at the google logo and the unlocked locker locky thing there
things i've tried to fix it:
reflash kernel
reflash rom
reflash rom and gapps and all that
wipe, factory reset, flash, all of those, all the combinations i could think of, it still wouldn't boot.
as i saw the situation i thought only 2 things are to be done, try some other rom and if not odin flash.
i tried adb sideload, i couldn't get through with it
i tried to flash 4.2.2 rom found in a thread for unbricking gnexuses, i did it without any issues whatsoever
but it STILL wouldn't boot.
so i figured my partitions should be messed up, tried flashing with pit and still no success to boot.
now, seeing how i tried pretty much everything in the book, what other options do i have besides selling it somehow, or using it as a coaster?

I recently tried installing probam rom v4.4.9 from xda threads and followed all the instructions. everything worked fine up until the thread said to reboot the phone once more, anyway long story short i rebooted it and it was stuck at the galaxy note 2 logo (white letters black background) it was stuck like this for around 5-10mins at which point i pulled the battery and decided to go back to using rootbox rom.
Is their anyway i can install probam rom without this happening again?
I've also tried downloading and installing probam version 4.5.0 from their own website following the instructions given on xda, but once its booted from twrp it'll work until i have to reset, at which point i am back to square one, being stuck at the galaxy note 2 logo.
I have also tried installing pacman rom because i would like to use a 4.3 rom but the same thing happens, the rom will work fine until i have to reboot or it randomly reboots and gets stuck at the note 2 logo.
the only roms i am able to use without this happening are moon rom v10, rootbox rom and carbon rom, only thing is i would like to use different roms and check out their features, but i am somewhat limited to what i can use due to the above problem. Does anyone else have this issue? If so how did you get past it?
Haven't had the problem myself. Did you also format the system partition and not just wipe it? Wipe the data partition?
Perhaps you can try installing a stock firmware through Odin, reinstall your recovery. That might clean some thing up that keep you from booting in probam rom.

i did what you told me to and flashed a stock rom through odin, went through the whole rooting process and flashed probam 4.5.0 again and this time it worked!! But no signal at all
Hey. So, my dad had a n5120 and it randomly just fell into an infinite bootloop. It had a version of Cyanogen Mod on it. No big deal, I thought. I flashed another ROM from the forums here and same thing. Bootloop. I've been flashing ROMs and messing around with Android for a little while now so I did the basic troubleshooting, wiped cache partition, dalvik cache and factory reset. Still boot looped. I tried installing several ROMs, to no avail (all flashed successfully, but bootlooped). I flashed the stock firmware (recovery, system etc.) with Odin, but still no luck!
I am now stumped. Can anyone help?

You are simply having wrong bootloader issue if I make a quess...I would check it out civato's ROM and follow the instruction.
basically, flash n5120 with odin, and then flash civato's n5120 flexburst room and see if it resolves your issue...
