You're going to have to go through a VPN, so you might as well try to find a fast one. I use PureVPN.
Sent from my Nexus 7
All I found was a VPN that worked for me too, unfortunately
HOWEVER what you can try doing (I think) is going on google play via the VPN on your computer, and then possibly sending things to download on the N7 without the VPN. may be a better alternative, but not sure if it works. Coincidentally I'm outside the US right now too, but haven't had to download anything. Last year I was doing it for magazines.
Where do you live ?

Hi guys, I'm making this thread because I had tried to ask for help in other related threads and not getting any solutions to this matter.
I have this problem since I bought my Samsung Galaxy W, I cannot complete a download in Google Play Store. Most of the downloads stuck halfway at *% and only small files like below than 300kb is able to download successfully and install on my phone.
After I started rooting my phone and install custom ROMs like CM9, I can download anything from the store. But recently the problem occur again, I flash back to stock but it is still not working.
I can download when I'm connected to my friend's Wifi or by using 3G. I have a friend who is using Samsung Galaxy SIII and having the same issue. I tried to google about my problem but all the resolved ones are for those who faced problems such as "Stuck at downloading.....", "Cannot download apps after paying...." etc.
I can confirm these problems don't have anything to do with mine. Is it that my home's internet have problem or is it something to do with google's servers?
Help.. Thanks
*Edit: From what I have remembered, the last time I was able to fix this problem is when I scan both my internal and external storage for error using Windows tools such as Error-Checking, Defragmentation and also Reformatting it. But when I do this for now, I get no results..
Need help badly~ T.T
No one knows how to fix this?
I think your internet connection problem
You should try another ISP
Should I contact my ISP and ask them to fix it? Because I found out that a lot of my friends also had the same problem. Some can download from play store but couldn't download from in-app updates or additional files. They also use the same ISP as me. So basically our ISP knows the problem and never want to fix it? Zz

Try to find another Internet connection if you don't always need it(eg MC Donalds), or maybe contact/change your ISP, last time I experienced this when I was using TMNET(ISP), but it's now solved after I used Singtel(ISP), good luck!
Has anyone successfully tethered their VZW Gnex using native tether option (on any rom)?
I can get any other device ro connext and user the hotspot i create. But when i connect my xbox to the wifi hotspot the xbox tells me it cannot obtain IP address.
I've tried a ton of ways to fix this, even manually setting the IP the xbox looks for and such. But still no go.
If i go back to any 4.1 rom I'm able to connect to xbox and user my lte tether with no issues.
Anyone with a similar experience or fix to this? I've been trying to figure it out ever since 4.2 dropped and thought I'd finally see what my fellow forum users have to say on this subject
Thanks in advance for everything guys!
Re: WIFI HOTSPOT ISSUE on 4.2+ (and xbox)
Quick bump
Sorry
I usually don't bump. I just been going nuts trying To see if it's only me having the problem
Any tips besides the basic stuff to fix an issue with tether? (To xbox360)
I can't get tethering to work on any 4.2.* ROM. Native or the WiFi Tethering app.
Since this is an absolutely critical feature for me, it looks like I'll never be upgrading.
I would seriously like an answer to this as well. I was going to make another thread here asking about the same thing because it seems that w/e rom I used that's based off of 4.1.w/e allows me to use my wifi hotspot just fine. I know it's not any of the devices receiving the signals problem because they were working just fine before I updated my g-nex to 4.2.1 or 4.2.2. Seriously....I've reached out and I get no answers. I don't want to go back to older versions because I shouldn't have too. I've used almost all different kinds of wifi apps like foxfi and others, but foxfi force closes, and all the others just don't work. I really need this feature to work! Any ideas?.....anybody?
Re: WIFI HOTSPOT ISSUE on 4.2+ (and xbox)
Thanks guys
I KNEW i wasn't alone
The error i get on xbox is it cant obtain ip address
When i look under settings about phone ever since 4.2 it always says ip address unavailable.
I was hoping we could collaborate at least a workaround by "spoofing" an ip and then manually setting it on the xbox. Unless we can stumble across a true fix to why this has started happening
Thanks for the input, lets me know I'm not going completely insane yet hahah
Thats weird. I have used my phone to tether my tablet, PS3 and my work computer. Hearing people say it doesn't work for them is surprising. I'm running the CM10.1 nightlies and using the native wifi tethering.
EDIT: I just realized you guys were mainly talking about the Xbox. lol, oops
Re: WIFI HOTSPOT ISSUE on 4.2+ (and xbox)
Yea that's the thing
I can tether to ANYTHING else just fine.
In fact i just tethered to my tablet and my computer.
The only thing that i get the Ip cant be obtained issue on is when trying Ti straight hotspot tether to the xbox itself.

You are not alone my friend. This is preventing me from updating. I'm following another thread where they found a fix for the Wi-Fi tether for root users to work properly on 4.2.2, but I have not received confirmation on if it also fixes and allows the Xbox to work again. I'm tempted to just try it myself and see what happens.... but haven't as of yet.
Edit: This is that thread.

I decided it was time. I made a backup. Flashed BB8, and just to be sure, I tried the native tethering. Didn't work. Then I tried this apk the guy modified for WiFi tether for root users. I tried absolutely ever different combination possible in settings, and still the Xbox would not work.
This guy reprogrammed that app, so now I'm going to try getting ahold of him to see if he can specifically look into the Xbox issue. Who knows. Maybe he is a miracle worker.
For now, I'm already back to BB6 4.1.2.

I do it all the time. On the Xbox internet connection screen try to delete the connect and try from scratch. I'm using XenonHD 8.0 works like a charm.
Have you ever been able to connect before?

I'm on 4.2.2 right now and I get an ip address with tethering on. You were saying it's unavailable under about phone -> status right? Works for me. Maybe it's the hostapd binary in stock. Try the one from my 3.3 kernel or later. Sorry my xbox has no wifi.

Sorry my last reply was a bit incoherent
Alcohol is all I gotta say bout that...
And sorry tiny I haven't tried yours yet.

Also, can I get a link to the thread mentioned about getting tethering working that was posted above so I can scan thru it? Thank you!!!

So, since you are some what blowing my mind, I just want to be doubly sure here.
You are on that ROM, and you can activate the native tethering feature on your Verizon Galaxy Nexus (toro), turn on your Xbox, connect it wirelessly to your phone, and successfully connect to Xbox live and play online?
That's all true and you aren't just messing with me?

I don't know if this is an issue with the new OS but it seems that we cannot run tethering apps (rooted). specifically it is the WEXT (ad-hoc) function... Which as far as I can tell is the way it broadcasts to other computers. Please don't respond telling me to use "foxfi" or some other "non-rooted" app. The reason we use the rooted ability is to be able to bypass the network hoops and use a "backdoor" to get what's rightfully ours. The function of teather ring was working fine on the pervious jellybean OS so it goes to say that someone just needs to fix this bug. Please help

I guy offered up a fix and signed it with his developer key here: code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=1661#c109 (can't link it since I'm new)
It'll tide you over until they officially fix it in the Play Store.
It's near perfect (laptop connects and gets out fine, but my Vita connects and cannot get out... to the internet).
OK I'm a dummy at this point. I downloaded the patch ( from user pfnguyen on post #109) its a ".man" file..? Not sure what to do with this... Am I going in the right direction?

There's an actual file there. Use your browser's search function to look for ".apk".
If you're a Sprint user, it won't work. Look for WiFi Tether Router in the Play Store. I'm using that now and it works fine.

I have similar issue with vzw gnex
I tired Mwalt2s method of disabling native tether check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176954
But I still get errors on startup of wifi tether. Does the above instructions apply to vzw as well?
Thanks,
Pupule
OK so this download form "pfnguyen" in the "TrevE Mod" which I already had. So how does one get this thing to work? The phone is verizon so I don't know if that makes a diff. There are a lot of settings on this app and I really have no idea what they really mean. Really... I'm dumb when it comes to this so you're gonna have to draw it out in crayon for me

I just receive "We're unable to connect to netflix right now. Please try again later". I've googled and tried a few solutions, clearing data, uninstalling, rebooting, updating android. I am on JLS36C btw
Cheers for any help

I don't think Netflix currently works on 4.3. I have been able to sign in to Netflix on my LTE N7 and on my G-Note II (running CM 10.2), but any time I try to start a stream, any number of bad things happen - the message you get, an FC or worse, the app just vanishes. This may be covered elsewhere, but I am not sure it can be solved until Netflix does something...

Mine works fine. I get an error every now and again, but an uninstall/reinstall always fixes it. WiFi version though.
Not true I use Carbon rom and even used to use it on the stock ROM and I am able to watch shows on netflix on my LTE nexus using ATT network. It must be something else causing your device not to be able to connect.
I have no problem watching Netflix either on my LTE N7 (tried only over Wi-Fi). Haven't had to play with uninstall/reinstall either, but have had to sign in multiple times. That's the only sort of glitch I've found.

Just as the title says. I used to tether every day on the train with my tmobile plan. I flashed manually to the official kitkat image a few days ago, and since then my tethering has been blocked by tmobile.
Has anyone else run into this and solved it?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
This is really disconcerting for me. I had my sim in a mobile hotspot with T-mobile and bought the Nexus 7 to put that sim into. I would still be able to tether with the tablet and also use SMS directly from the device instead of accessing it through a webpage. With this update, Google breaks the two features I bought this device for. Not only is this a problem but I can't seem to find a place to actually complain to Google about this and expect to get any kind of answer about it.
Check the nexus 5 q&a section. There is a hack to fix this.

I'm going to flash back to 4.3 tonight to see if i can get my tethering working again.
There is no benefit to 4.4 on my nexus 7 compared to 4.3. Actually, there is only a downside, many apps I use just crash on 4.4.
Will report back tonight if my tether starts to work again.
ok, an update as I said. I flashed the previous version "jls36i" stock image back, and I'm happily tethering once again on the train
Does anyone know where I have to go on the internet to get an answer from Google as to why tethering is disabled on Kit Kat for the Nexus 7? I've tried to find some place to send an email, have a discussion, fill out a web form, or anything but I can't find anyplace that I'm sure will get me an answer back. I'm not a social media person but I will join one if I can get an answer to my questions. Any help would be appreciated.
They've definitely changed something in the past month or two. I was able to tether to my ipod w/o any issues. I hit my 500mb limit today. I figured, no big deal, will just fire up my vpn (L2TP) from the ipod. Done deal, right? Nope. They can still detect it somehow.
I will have to check it out on my pc. I have a hunch they can somehow tell that tethering is enabled on the phone (nexus 5 4.4).
