So I really like the Android 4.0 ICS Rom that I put on my Kindle Fire.
But I also really wanted to keep some of the Kindle Fire's app such as Amazon Instant Video, and Kindle.
I know I can get the Kindle app from the Android Market, but there is no Amazon Instant Video app in there.
Is there a way that I can still get the Amazon Instant Video app while running ICS 4.0 Android ROM besides just running a ICS launcher on a Kindle Fire ROM?
If not, is there a way I can alternate between the Android ROM and the Default Kindle Fire ROM?
EDIT:
Queston 2:
So I can't get TWRP to work properly. Like... It doesn't feel like it's installed. The only way I can get TWRP to show up on the boot screen, is when I manually have to each time, use the KFU, Press 3+Enter, and then reboot my kindle fire that way, and THEN it'll just load TWRP. I never see the yellow Triangle for some reason. Any reasons why?
Currently running on 6.3.1 using KFU version 0.9.6
Not that I know of

You want prime stay stock you want ics no prime that is how it is but you can alternate from a backup of each via recovery.
Keep a backup of both stock and ics on your SD card when you want to watch prime use ota root keeper to protect root and temp. unroot on your stock side always remember to restore root and delete superuser backup when your done . Always make fresh backups before returning to the other. Always do good wipes when moving back and forth because of the difference between the two systems as this can cause problems during restore. Ultimately its as big hassle and an be dangerous if you mess up or take an ota and loose root while on stock. Problems that I have had when switching lost game data particularly glu games, kindle books, market problems, bad backups, SD card space consumption . About your twrp and bootloader issue I would use smirkits scripts to update both of them starting with twrp http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935 read carefully on how to apply these with root browser if you want help just ask for it in a new thread someone will be more than willing to walk you through it .
Your bootloader and recovery are the two things you don't want to make any mistakes on.
I'm pretty sure I haven't made any mistakes though. I've followed tutorial word for word, and even by videos...
What do you see when you boot your device do you see a white kindle with an orange fire? Or a white kindle with a blue fire? If you see the second one depress your power button a few times quickly till you get a tiny list of options at the bottom of the screen press your power button till it looks like --recovery-- that will put you into recovery. If you see the white kindle with the orange fire your bootloader is not installed.

As it's been said before, you can only use VOD on the unrooted stock OS.

Yes, it is possible to dual boot the Kindle Fire, but I wouldn't suggest trying it without doing some research first. And considering the second question of your post, I would suggest doing a LOT of research.

I don't have Prime but I've purchased tv shows and rented movies on Amazon and I can see them on my Kindle running ICS through the Amazon website (changing user agent to Desktop on the browser settings) It works pretty well (accessing controls when in full screen mode is a little bit hard and messy but if you don't try to go back and forth in the movie you'll be okay)
I know is not the same as the stock video player but it works
So I might be getting a K Fire today and I'm wondering if this still holds true?
I already have a Galaxy Nexus so just being able to use ICS/browsing the internet isn't a big deal for me. I plan on using the device primarily for reading and video (whichever service is best - amazon, netflix, ect.).
Is the kindle app just as good as the stock interface? Would I loose much from the transition from stock to 4.0.4? I'm guessing that ICS offers a smoother interface and browsing but is that worth the switch?

The Kindle app for Android is nowhere as good as the reader already on the stock rom. Seeing as all you're going to do is read and watch videos, stay on the stock rom or try MoDaCo.
hello.
I write this post because right now I'm desperate. my kinde fire was rooted and works great. I wanted to install an unofficial ROM and there came all problems.
first of all I want to say that I resort to this message because I've tried everything, but I did manage to save my device.
My Kindle was rooted and TWRP works well. I inadvertently left the device without an operating system. I forgot to put a rom after you wipe. After this, when the device booted, first came out the white and orange logo, then white and blue recovery and eventually returned to the first logo.
First I tried to recover it with the original firmware. I could not access the device via the file browser windows, so I copied the. zip with adb push. after several attempts I went to plan B, because I always got the same "error 7", so I tried to install the cyanogen rom, but I had the same fate.
After that, I was reading about fastboot, so I downloaded kindle fire utility. I think something went here even worse, because now TWRP gone.
I finally discovered unbrick kindle utility, but now my pc does not recognize the device. drivers are installed and kindle fire utility says "adb: online", but I can not access the device.
I searched a lot of information, but I think I am increasingly far from the solution, so I decided to write this post.
anyone can help me to recover the kindle? I'm desperate now. I'd like to have everything as before, I do not lose the root
thanks!!!
Same problem

Hi. I was just commenting that a lot of people are rushing into doing things without reading, or even checking what model they have. Admittedly Amazon hasn't made it easy by advertising it as the Kindle Fire 2. All the recent posts in this section of the forum are from people bricking their devices, mainly because they did something wrong.
I don't know how the situation can be changed, apart from building some checks into the KF1 rooting/modding tools.

Ok guys/gals I made a huge mistake and drove away with my ipad ontop of my car this morning(some of you may say that is a good mistake)
but I need to root my kids Kindle fire HD so that I can use it as a decent replacement tablet. We all know that stock Amazon OS is garbage. I have an imac computer but am just trying to find the best and most current guides to root, get TWRP on the device and then load a custom rom like CM10.1
I have found a good guide for getting the root done although it looks like all the links are dead. I really am just grateful for any help this forum can provide me as I go through this today
I don't know very much about rooting from a Mac, but as long as its a fairly recent Mac ( from when they switched over to using Intel processors), you may be able to natively run binaries root but I have my doubts, I would think the adb binary file would need to be for the Mac is, personally what I would do is burn a Ubuntu live CD, and put it in your Mac, reboot the Mac and hold down "c" to boot from the CDROM. From there I know you can run the binary root Linux version. I hope my instructions for booting a Ubuntu live CD for a Mac are still up to date, haven't done this since highschool, since I don't have any macs. I don't think it matters if you get the 64 or 32 bit version of the CD, since 32 runs on 64, and Intel macs should be 64 bit if I remember right.

I actually thought about downloading windows and booting into windows using bootcamp. and just following a tutorial using windows. that are using my In laws computer. It seems pretty cut an dry from windows
although just aguide on installing TWRP with mac should get me far enough along
Installing twrp doesn't even require a PC, I would just use the fire flash method, just make sure to check the box next to the red text so you don't get a red screen brick or you will need a fastboot cable to fix it. Here's a link to the tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277105
Also I wouldn't bother with boot camp and windows, Ubuntu method is easier, as you aren't installing an os, you are booting straight from a CD so it takes way less time. Either way you need root to install twrp, you could also use fastboot to flash a prerooted system image, but u still need to be able to use fastboot command (comes with adb and the other platform tools), so like i said I think Ubuntu method is best, unless you feel like manually using a Mac version of the android SDK which I think they made, makes sense to have one.

I thought I did everything right but then when i boot up after installing TWRP i Get this screen with a grey bar running down the side...
i can turn it on/off enter fastboot etc....just cant get the blue logo to show up
what does this mean
Um I have no idea what that is. A grey bar on the side? Could you take a photo, I'm wondering if you had a bad flash or something. Did you check the md5sum's before flashing it?

Hey guys, I tried to install TWRP by following this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277105 and I successfully boot into TWRP.
But then terrible things happened. Maybe I got wrong by clicked one more bottom on fireflash herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168512.
Then TWRP tells me no OS found, I can only boot into recovery now. Since Kindle Fire HD got no external SD card, what can I do about it?
Only factory cable, which I nerver want it, can save my Kindle?
Help please!!!
You don't need a factory cable to fix, and I think they don't work on 8.9” models anyways. This tutorial might not sound like its for your problem based on its title, but it will fix it nonetheless. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459498

Hello All XDA members,
I have a Kindle HD 8.9 and as the warranty passed off, at the same time Christmas is nearing...I decided to install CM KK on my sons kindle as i don't have enough money to give a present to my son.
I've done all that is given here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963.
Problems I've faced are as the thread didn't mention to root I was trying some codes without that but some how figured that i needed root to proceed..Simultaneously rooted my kindle rebooted and then proceeded with the codes i.e backup of system img and all the steps that were given.
I has all the downloaded files in download directory so the stack push didn't work first then i moved all the required files to C> ADB folder and everything worked but before figuring it out i googled stack file push failure and came across a guide that has the stack push directory to data/temp (I see that this was later edited here)
However i retried with the push to the location that is currently mentioned now and it worked (So the stack file is at 2 locations now)
Proceeded with all next steps and stuck at flashing bin file in fastboot, realized the downloaded file was .bin.html i renamed it to bin and flashed
Everything was done as mentioned except something that needed to be understood and done by logical thinking like removing .html and flashing .bin.
After all this when the kindle was supposed to reboot it didn't and its completely dead now... I have done all that was mentioned and have said all the errors or misses that i has above ..now is it that the kindle is dead brick forever ?
I cant trust how can that be because i really know how cautious i was and i did almost every thing as mentioned..
Saddest part is that now I've messed up my sons kindle which i thought of Flashing CM KK and giving a little gift as i'm not capable of providing any gift now ..I've messed his kindle as well now
I'd be really glad and thankful if some one can help me out in this situation and recover kindle.
Again i'd like to mention I've done as mentioned please trust me and still have the image backups, i read that the back up can be reflashed but as there is no commuication via ADB or flashboot i don't thing that can be done now .
Why did this happen what can be possible reason ?
Sounds like you may have accidently saved a webpage instead of the .bin file, that's why it had the .html on the end. If you tried to flash this to the bootloader then unfortunately you have bricked it

It shouldn't have .html on the end. Check the md5 sum for the file and make sure that it is the same as it should be, you should ALWAYS do this when messing with the bootloader
Maybe you flashed wrong images.
I just went to the link of the guide that you followed in flashing a second bootloader and recovery. The instructions are for a Kindle Fire 2/ Otter2. Its a different device from the KF HD 8.9. So.... if you did flash the images from that link, it will lead to a bricked device no matter if you followed the instructions to the letter. Maybe you can sell it on ebay or Craigslist for parts. Just a thought...

I actually plan on doing this for a similar reason. My sons kindle battery life is appalling as it drains faster than before and charges slower, plus kindle updates are lacking badly and some things don't work anymore.
I hope you can fix it somehow.

As stated by Max above, if you flashed those images from that thread you linked to in your post, then those are the incorrect files for your device. and would have definitely bricked it! assuming you do have the FFHD 8.9 inch. but you still may be able to unbrick it. are you positive of which kindle device you have? if you are positive that it is indeed a KFHD 8.9, do you know which version it was on before you started the OP?

Let me see if I got this correct, you sold the bricked kindle with the incorrect images on it on craislist? You Bought another kindle off eBay that has been reported stolen/lost? That sounds like some of my luck! So you got another kfhd 8.9? And you are for sure!? If so, go to about tablet in settings and see which version its currently running, also turn ON USB debugging and set it to allow 3rd party app installs in security settings, then get adb and fastboot working and we will go from there.

yes the lag is known issue after/when trying to root using some of the ways posted! if you can get through the lagg long enough to get an app on it i would recommend using an app called keyrootmaster you can get it here http://download.apks.org/?server=14&apkid=com.zhiqupk.root&ver=1.3.6 this is what i used and several other posters i know of, THE ONLY BAD THING IS the app is written in Indonesian language, BUT it works and after about 3 taps you got root! if you are going to CM or some other rom it shouldn't matter about the language anyway as all of that app will be gone and superuser is baked into CM anyway. see if you can get that app, get it rooted and let me know and i will try to help you get TWRP and CM installed.
