Can I in any way whatsoever disable thermal throttling?
It just bugs me that I can't play any intense game due to severe frame drops. I would love to have the option of disabling the thermal throttling, but I got no idea how. Could you please help me?

I don't think so, thermal throttling definitely has to do with the kernel and you certainly have to face that.
Just saying, why have a Nexus in the first place if you're afraid of / can't understand flashing?

Yes you can disable thermal throttling BUT you need a custom kernel. Also even with the throttle off , once your phones CPU hits a certain temp 120°c I believe , it'll shut down . and I guarantee that playing any game that taxes your phone will hit this temp if the throttle is off .
Simply put its not really a good idea , start with a custom kernel that can over clock the CPU and GPU and you should be OK , leave the throttle alone

Here's my problem: no matter what app is used to control my CPU, no matter what ROM I use, or Kernel I run, my phone cycles over and over down to 350mhz. I've even changed the voltages and governor to no avail. At this point I want to throw this thing against the wall and go ballistic.
Does anybody else have this problem? Or know how to fix it.

Does this problem occur when you are running stock?
Stock root yes. Never had the problem while unrooted.

So...what is the problem?
The phone spends most of its time at 350mhz on any kernel.
That's weird, even with full wipes in between your ROM flashes it still cycles down to 350? You've also selected run on boot in your kernel settings and verified that the init.d file was written? Do you keep restoring with Titanium Backup or something after all your ROM flashes or do you actually start fresh?

The problem? Have you used this phone at 350mhz? It's worse than a G1 on Eclair...I didn't buy the latest phone to run at 1/4 of the max. Not trying to troll, but the lag between key strokes as the processor cycles down and up over and over is ridiculous. It makes the phone a terror to use.

Yes, I wipe repeatedly just to make sure. No Titanium for me. Yes, run on boot is good.

Your explanation was confusing. I thought you meant it was spending most of its time at 350mhz, not stuck with 350mhz as a cap.
Have you returned to stock? Because rooting alone won't do this.

I apologize I wasn't clearer. The phone will switch to a high frequency and then drop all the way down to 350mhz and stay there.
No matter how much I try and change it, the phone will switch frequencies for roughly twenty seconds and drop down to 350mhz, regardless of settings.
After 3 or 4 times of doing this, the phone will stick to 350mhz and not change at all, until I reboot the phone.

As a test, use something like setcpu and cap yourself at 1.2ghz and see if it stays there. You might have a bad cpu.
I had this same problem using setcpu on my old htc sensation.
I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it. I think I just got rid of setcpu and stopped messing with the clock speeds.

Maybe I should just rewrite the kernel so that 1.2ghz and 1.35ghz are the only options.

No joke rofl. Having a very hard time understanding whats actually going on here lol.
I think I just put it all together. He claims 350mhz to be "1/4" of the max. So he's trying to oc to 1.4ghz and his cpu, like most, can't handle it and the system clocks down to minimum on its own.
Could be wrong but his case sounds like exactly what happened to me when trying out 1.42ghz. Even on performance gov. It just isn't stable on all cpus. Voltage tweaking may or may not help.

Ever since I had my nexus I only flashed AOKP and Faux's kernel. But the annoying part is that when Im using interactive or ondemand and the phone go to a higher speed, the phone gets too hots, and when it reaches 1200Mhz it gets too hot to the fact that I cant touch the top of the screen or the back cover on the camera side. Only way out of it is me using conservative and UC to 920Mhz and the phone wont reach that speed anyway. Any help please?

Hi,
Temperature is subjective,I mean if you just touch your phone and say "it's hot"...
If I wash my hands with cold water then I take my phone...I find it hot...
Cools your hands (in the fridge ) and use your phone 5 mins, you will find it very hot...
There are already many threads about this...Arrrrgh,can't use the search function ,but for sure for the last week there is about 2 threads about that...
Try a fresh install, starts from scratch with full wipe etc, just your current ROM and if it continues flash another kernel...
Monitor your CPU temp with an app,not just your feeling,it may be biased (System Tuner for example or maybe an app like cpu temp,on the Play Store),for their respective (if you test anothers) kernel try Franco kernel updater or Glados control to monitor the CPU temp.
Also see if there isn't an app,a script,etc...that could fully or almost load your CPU...

Way more simpler actually. An app shows you your available frequencies choose the one you want and done.Oh and its live OC to.
Overclocking a phone is not easier than overclocking a PC.
Phones have many CPU steps so you have to find the right voltage for each step.
Also you can only change CPU voltage and frequency. (Some kernels allow you to change bus speed which is nice but alot don't support this.)
The only sensor you have is battery temp.
Furthermore, when overclocking a pc, you can just run prime95 for 10 hours and you know your stable. With the phone there is no difinitive stability test so sometimes something might trigger an instability afte you have been "stable" for a while.
Also no third party cooling. (As far as I know)
Im not saying it's really hard, but honestly when you come from PC overclocking you will probobly get frustrated about some things.
All that being said, overclocking a phone is super fun and I hope I didn't scare you away from it in any way.
Am I the only one who isnt interested in overclocking in the least bit? I mean, the damn thing is fast enough already. I can understand overclocking something old like a nexus one, but wow. What do you guys get out of OC? What do you use OC for that requires the higher speeds?

If you have to ask this then don't worry about it. The average PC doesn't need more than 1ghz. We overclock because we can!

I custom built my computer, im sure i can overclock it to who knows what but it being so new i don't even think about it. Maybe in 2 years when it starts showing age.
Most people that overclock their PC will get a new one before they really need the speed anyway. It's just because its is fun. And plus if you know how to overclock, there is really no reason not to. It's not like it's a trade off, its just free performance.
gotcha, i wasnt meaning to be disrespectful, i just never understood it unless needed.
You should try overclocking your PC. You might find that it is very fun.

Dont try it bro. Look at meruk kernels thread in development section.there is no feature called overclocking.
I have heard in past that he made a overclocking kernel which was abandoned.
My advice.most the developers are in xda.most blogs copy paste their work.do a search in xda before doing something risky.
send from Gods Own Country........
It works, you can overclock to 900MHz and also, 1GHz, but it drains battery like anything, almost 5x times, mines over at just 3 hours with normal usage, and some fcs with multi tasking, it isnt stable. So better not use it and btw, if something like this comes, it comes first at xda, dont waste your time reading other blogs.
BTW, its copied from merruk kernel thread from development section.
I overclocked with this kernel
Improved benchmark score
But drains battery very fast
Better use a good kernel....

If you're unlocked, installing a custom ROM or kernel works well.

My HOX gets hot only when I play heavy games like NFS Mostwanted
But not during normal use.
Maybe you should try a custom rom or a different kernel as suggested by @treebill
Stock ROM's and kernels overheat the CPU/GPU to a greater extent than custom equivalents.
Typically custom ROM's and kernels have had a far greater amount of development put into them along with assistance from the community at large to properly tune everything for the best balance of power/heat/performance.
That said, expecting a very powerful quad-core part, and a GPU besides, to not heat up inside such a small, passively-cooled space when held in a hand at body temperature, is entirely unrealistic.

My advice in this is the same as it always is when asked for a recommendation.
Try them for yourself until you find a situation you are happy with.
There are MANY ROMs and kernels...and I would say they are ALL good in different ways.
As for ARHD in particular, do not use v22 if you get bad Wi-Fi, use v21 and your Wi-Fi will be fine.

Haven't got a clue, but you might try firstly installing something such as Battery Monitor Widget and checking your voltage just before the point it turns off, your battery % may be reading wrong.
Otherwise it sounds like a software problem that will probably correct itself after replacing the ROM.
If it's operating normally up to that point i'd consider it unlikely to be hardware.
You don't really need a whole ROM or kernel just rooting will help.
Lowering the Max clock to 1.3ghz or lower.
I believe on stock kernel you can disable 2 cores in trickster mod.
