Dear Friends,
My optimus G, fell down yesterday, while playing with my kid. The front glass is shattered and touch is not working, but the display is intact. I will be going to service center. Before that, I want to know, is it neccessary to flash the original kdz? I was on liquid smooth before the break and quickly restored my nandroid backup since the display was intact. Please let me knw, if I still have to flash the kdz before going to the service center, since it is a hardware break and will the service center people will deny anything because of bootloader unlocked status.....:crying:
LG will repair your device either way. But since you caused the screen to break, your device will not be repaired under warranty. So to my mind it won't matter if you're unlocked or not. Either case you will have to pay for the repair yourself.

Has anyone had any luck getting a new phone out of Samsung or Sprint if it has been bricked by doing a factory reset on STOCK ICS firmware? I have E4GT that has a cracked touchscreen (it cracked exactly 3 weeks after I got it, and I dont have $100 to get it replaced by Asurion), and I want to find a loophole to get it replaced. Oh and spare me any ethics lesson you feel the urge to give me, because I won't be listening to any holier than thou comments about how it's wrong. What's wrong is to remove the Gorilla Glass from the spec without telling anyone.
So anyway..
I was thinking that since my phone is still under a year old, and I have the insurance, and the eMMC brick issue is reportedly still present in the official OTA release of ICS, I'd go back to official firmware, unroot, do the OTA update, then factory reset it to trigger the brick.. Will Sprint do a replacement on an unrooted "accidental" brick without going through Asurion - considering it's a known defect in the update? Or will I have to go through Samsung? In either case do they repair the phone or will they just swap it?
Thanks
Sprint won't replace it with a cracked LCD.

It still has gorilla glass in it, gorilla glass is scratch resistant not shatter resistant. The denser the glass to reduce the risk of scratching the easier the cracks at the right drop angle. You won't get a warranty replacement with a cracked screen bricked or not, you're just gonna have to suck it up and pay the $100, or just live with the cracked screen. Or you could buy a replacement screen and replace it yourself. Those are your only options. If you brick your phone and can't pay the $100 to assurion you'll just be out of a phone. Neither Samsung or sprint will warranty a phone with physical damage regardless if its got a defect, bricked or any other reason you can get a warranty. After you replace/repair your phone think about buying a case for it. And I wouldn't even try telling either Sprint or Samsung they didn't use Gorilla Glass, since you obviously haven't educated yourself on what it is and what its specs and resistance is :banghead:

After flashing the stock google (yukju) roms on my galaxy nexus, everything went fine for a couple of months and now I am getting weird haywire issues with my touch screen. Without me touching anything, the phone will act like a part of my screen is being touched, it will not respond when I am indeed touching it at times, the screen will flicker back and forth and generally act strangely. Then for the other 70% of the time it is fine. I have re-flashed all stock roms, did a factory reset, and the problem persists.
Is anyone else having these problems?
any idea what to do next.
After contacting my provider, they said they cant help me because I had unlocked the phone. I have since relocked the phone so I might try calling back and seeing if it will fool them, but I doubt it. Now that I have re-locked the phone should I try to deal with Samsung?
Any help appreciated!
It sounds like a hardware issue. Most likely the touchscreen itself is bad. If you still have warranty or insurance coverage then bring it back to the store and tell them it is defective. By the way, NEVER mention that you have ever unlocked or rooted your phone.

Thanks for the reply. Im worried that, like you say, it is a hardware issue because I bought it used, and therefore will probably have problems with warranty/insurance. My carrier has already said that they wont help me with it so I would have to go right to Samsung. Any tips on dealing with Samsung? I have already returned to stock and re-lock the phone and I never rooted it, I certainly wont say I did anything to it in any way. Anything else I should be aware of? Will they even help me out since I wasn't the one who bought the phone in the first place?

Although most manufacturers offer a 1 year warranty on hardware, I doubt they will honor it since you were not the original owner. Your next option is repairing it yourself. It took a look at prices on eBay and it looks like the digitizer (touchscreen) for a galaxy nexus goes for about $30 and the combination of digitizer and LCD screen go for about $150. I don't know how difficult it would be to separate the digitizer from the LCD on your phone, but $150 for the set is still better than buying a new phone.

As has been said, it is probably a hardware issue - I had an HTC Desire S before my GNex and had the same issue with it, started all of a sudden. (The screen would go haywire as you said, almost as if a ghost was pushing buttons quickly - that's the best way I can describe it). Mine did not have warranty coverage because I had rooted and unlocked it but the HTC rep was helpful and said it happens sometimes because of moisture or humidity or some such thing and to replace the lcd/digitizer. Cost me a little ($110) but phone was as good as new after that, used it for six months before selling it and buying the GNex.
I found out the hard way. This is for anyone who might need to have a screen fixed. Flash a stock kdz before you send this phone in for repair. I shattered the screen, again, and LG contacted me after diagnosing my phone. They wanted to charge $356 to fix the phone. They said it was because they determined it was a tampered device/rooted (Korean 5.0 e980). I called and they said the cost was to fix the screen and restore it to factory settings. They will not fix only the screen. Policy is when a phone is repaired, it must be factory restored when it leaves. I even asked to leave it rooted and software alone. They can't do that. So it is coming back shattered.
I will take it to the local repair shop again. The first time they used sub par digitizer and it acted funny. Sometimes capacitive keys would not register, touch anywhere on screen, capacitive buttons work again. Wanted OEM screen installed is why I chose LG. Guess I could flash stock then send it back.
After about a year of replacing my LG G4, the boot loop happened again.
I turn on my phone, got to the launcher, phone starts to heat up and crashes, and the process repeats till it doesn't even get past the boot screen.
I'm using the H818N Model, can this be fixed with LG Bridge, up or flashing?

The last time I sent it back, they almost made me pay for warranty. I don't wanna repair a phone that ends up spoiling in a year later.
I'm sorry to hear that. I always assumed that replacing the main board will not fully fix the issue and this is the proof
The best Chance to not have the bootloop issue again is buying a phone which was never refurbished so where the whole phone was manufactured in 2016 beginning from February. But even then there is no guarantee ...
To be sure if you have the hardware issue again you could try to flash a full factory image but backup your data first!!

Backup my data first? How? I can only get to the home screen for at least a minute before it starts looping.

If you do not want to fight with LG support about warranty I would try this first:
hair dryer method A)
If you dont care about LG support (means they MAY reject the service due to detection of an unauthorized opened device)
pressure method -> hair dryer method A) -> hair dryer method B) -> freezer method -> baking method (I would prefer baking before freezer as long as u have an oven which is not used for food anymore)
pressure method:
(as u need to open the device it may be rejected by LG support for repair)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-bootloop-quick-fix-try-baking-t3633595
hair dryer method:
A) https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/temporary-boot-loop-solution-to-files-t3554469
B) https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71647715&postcount=41 (checkout the video and the last comments of the writer in the XDA thread)
(as u need to open the device it may be rejected by LG support for repair)
baking method:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/solution-lg-g4-bootloop-issue-story-t3322382 (ensure you read the toxic fume hint!)
(as u need to open the device it may be rejected by LG support for repair)
freezer method:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/help/how-to-recover-data-boot-loop-defect-t3297766 (~1 hour in freezer)
(The freezer does not require to open the device BUT: it could be possible that LG may reject such devices for repair due to a water damage (depends on several things so this might or might not happen))
Once booted up backup your data as fast as you can. Btw if any of the above succeeds its very very likely that you have a defective hardware again so no need to flash a KDZ then but well it would hurt to try it regardless.

My LG G4 SN601 bootlooped after 1 year and 2 months. Because of unlocked bootloader and LineageOS installed, LG didn't repaired or refunded my phone. Only after an argue with local seller I got my money back. LG never again! ... I won't buy anything from them again, not even hairdrainer! LG was a big mistake, they don't make so good quality products like many years in past. I bought iPhone 7 128GB instead. I hope that people in US CA will crush LG and all affected customers will get their money back even if out of warranty.
So I got my moto Z2 force 6mo ago at t-mobile rooted, TWRP, stock rom. No problems at till the screen has pretty bad burn in at the top and bottom of the screen. So Motorola is going to replace my phone with very little effort on my part trying to encourage them. Now I have a problem once I unroot and go back to stock and lock bootloader there's this software change screen. My question is if I send it in will they still replace it or not. I don't want to waste my time if they will not. So if anyone has tried please let me know. I all ready got the shipping lable so I'm kinda on a time crunch. Oh yeah the only thing they ask is if there was liquid damage or if the phone was damaged in a drop. Thanks Guys.b
The second you unlock your bootloader your warranty is voided, so if your trying to get it repaired using warranty it's not going to happen. Relocking your bootloader doesn't make your warranty valid again.
asislife20 is right. Only thing I think could happen is if Motorola/Lenovo act like HTC and see it as a hardware defect and still replace it. I was lucky and was able to warranty out my unlocked M7 due to it having a known hardware defect. Burn in is a grey area at best since I don't know many people who have it. My Z2 has been in service for over a year and doesn't have any burning.
Most of the time companies will know if it is a warranty due to unlocking (like breaking your partition table) or hardware (like the purple camera issue on the M7). Hardware defects are usually warrantied. I'd call them back and make sure
Well I FedEx it today so I will know in a few days. They gave me the option to send me a new one then after I got it I could send mine back but they were going to put a 500$ hold on my account but I opted to send it first then get the replacement once they get my old one. The root has nothing to do with screen burn anyhow. It's a great phone for power and it's not a Samsung or Apple, everyone I know has sold out to those two it's sad there are much better phones out there but most people are to goofy to try them out.
I will for sure let ya guy know witch ever way it goes. It's overnight shipping so Ill know soon. Fingers crossed.

I have had motorola replace a phone even tho I had previously unlocked the bootloader I didnt bother to relock it since they already know its been unlocked, got a new phone anyway
The repair order online says exchange and they sent me an email saying that the problem was resolved. so its looking good. I just want my phone back this Honor 6x doesn't cutting it.
The sent me a new Moto z2 force today. No questions asked in the end. Took 7 days but there's nothing like a new phone to break in. Thanks for the responses.
