I have an update available that I cant seem to get rid of (tried multiple fixes I found googling and nothing worked)
Ive spent weeks trying to find an answer to this so now Imma create a new thread and just ask.
Can I please get a straight fire answer on the latest firmware that it is safe to be on and preserve root/recovery? Im currently on 4.2.2
And perhaps link me to a guide?
I recently switched from jailbreaking apple to android about 5 months ago, so Im still a bit of a noob but Im not totally useless.

I got mine new from HK 4 days ago... Stock..4.2.2
And did 2 OTA updates 2 days ago.
STILL 4.2.2
I dont think you are missing much..
If it's a MUST HAVE.....
then flash your stock FW...... run your OTA updates...
then re-root.... good luck!

I have a Virgin Desire which I debranded by installing the first Froyo ROM a maybe 3 weeks ago.
I've read about this new fangled update (and the problems with it!) yet I don't get any new updates when I go looking for it in the phone menu.
Any idea why? I can't find an answer to this one.
My Evo came with the new OTA update and i've been looking through the forums for any news on a root but all answers point to no, but those posts were from weeks and even a month ago. So, i'm just wondering, what's the deal? Where is the source code from HTC, any idea when it will come out?
Nope still nothing new. Team win has 3d root almost done and some think that it may mean it'll be soon others not so much. So we will just have to wait. Sorry

Actually they have rooted the Evo3D already, they just haven't figured out how to unlock the bootloader yet so u can flash custom roms & recovery but u can still wifi tether & run roots apps. It's believed that this method will work on the Evo4G with the new OTA Gingerbread Updates...
So I have a small question...
I have a Galaxy Nexus, had it since day 30 or so. Updated OTA many times and rooted every time, using the stock ROM so everything is perhaps more simple.
The lady friend has also got a GN. Her phone downloaded the OTA update and is now bugging her to install. She purchased her phone only a couple of months ago. We're on the same build number but my GN won't see the update to 4.2.
Is there a reason for this? Did Google pull the update once they have figured out the December bug and haven't yet fixed it?
I am a little worried as I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to root my 4.1.2 phone but as the toolkit wasn't updated, I used the settings for 4.1.1. I am certain I did this to my partners phone too, but that is the only thing I can think of as to why I haven't got the update.
I'm not totally desperate for it, but just wondering why.
Thanks

Nobody really knows (afaik) how Google decides which Nexus devices get OTA updates first. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with how 'old' your device is though. And having root won't affect the OTA update, don't worry. You do need stock recovery though.
Stock recovery?
I don't have anything like CWM installed. My phone is completely stock apart from rooted
Might try re-rooting using the Toolkit as my phone version (just in case) and then just wait I guess. Just a shame it won't see the update as I would have thought once they set the server to show there is a new version, all devices would see it... just like Windows Update for instance.
Man up and do it the right way..

Hello,
I have a question about installing OTA updates manually on my S4. I've been searching the net for hours now, but haven't found an answer that makes sense to me so I decided to ask here. First some background...
I got the S4 exactly a month ago today. I was going to wait for the Nexus 5, but when I found out that I could load the 4.3 Google Edition rom on the phone and have the stock GE experience I decided to pull the trigger on it. The day I got the phone I installed 4.3 JWR66N and have loved it. I was hoping that I'd be able to get OTA updates automatically using the stock ROM, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I found out today that I'm a couple versions behind already (JWR66V & JWR66Y).
My question is, is it possible to apply the OTA updates manually to my phone? I found a link to the JWR66Y update for the S4 and tried to install it from CWM recovery, but it failed.
I've installed a few roms on S2 and S4 now, but not sure how to handle the smaller OTA updates. In this case it was 17.4MB. Is it possible to keep my phone up-to-date with the latest OTA versions? If so, how? Thanks!

I ended up flashing a ROM (4.3 JWR66Y.S003.130805) posted by janjan here on xda. It's been on my phone since Saturday and has been great so far. Thanks janjan!
It would still be nice to be able to just install the updates (JWR66V to JWR66Y for example) instead of flashing the entire OS to get it, but I'll take what I can get. I basically have a GE S4 with the latest stable android version and love it.
