[Q] SD card corrupting the system? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got the tab 3 7.0 and put the kidz room on it. Everything was working fine until I bought a 32GB san disk SD card. When I put that in, the kids mode constantly crashes, applications can't start or force close. When I pull the card out everything works fine again. I have nothing but a few mkv and avi files on the sd card. Does that make sense to anyone? The card is formatted as FAT32. I think I'll try exFAT and see if that makes a difference, but what the heck?

This worked for me - I don't know if this will work for you
I formatted my 512mb sdcard took it to fat32
I then ran scandisk and defrag on the card - there were lots of errors
after fixing that
I then reran the scandisk and defrag until all the errors were gone
I now back up my SD card every other day to my desktops Hard Drive

64GB microSD card not recognized

Hello,
I am having trouble getting the 64GB microSD card (purchased from amazon) getting the phone recognize the card.
- The PC is able to recognize the card
At first the phone says that the card format is not supported.
The card was exFAT, I then formatted it to to FAT32 (using acronis true image)
Now, The phone UI is force closing. When I open the files app, it force closes. The phone goes beserk.
I inserted back the 32GB microSD, everything goes back to normal.
How do I fix this issue?
I am running darkside evolution 3
Also, the vista computer doesn't see the card, but the XP computer sees the card... strange
Tried.formatting on the phone?

I can not format on the phone.it does not recognize the card.
I borrowed my friends galaxy note which was not rooted to see if it recognizes it and hopefully format the card. Unfortunately. It still didnt recognize the card
It is ok now. Use HP format utility. Looks like acronis was not a true fat32 or it was corrupted the card. Doesnt matter what the exact reason... it is all good now

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Microsd issues

Hello I'm quite new to andriods and the process of rooting and flashing, but I've done alot of research. I have quite a lot of issues with my 64gb microsd. Essentially what i wanted to do was to put apps and files such as movies/shows into it. I tried using app2sd, link2sd etc... it doesn't work. Now putting aside that I don't want to put apps on my sd card anymore, I tried just putting the movies/shows into my microsd. The micro sd card tends to get corrupted or some files don't show that I've moved from my computer to my microsd. It sometimes even gets corrupted that both the tablet and the computer will not be able to read it. I have tried to partition it using all of the types (ex4, 3, 2, FAT32 etc..) Now does anyone have a clue on how to make it so I can solve my issue? ( I just want to put movies, videos into it)
P.S. I've also tried two different brands of micro sd cards. (both 64gb)

Have you tried to format the card directly from the tablet storage settings? Also, have you tried to format it as exFat or vFat? (Theriugh linux or gparted live disk). The last option would be finding a person that has a tab/phone that supports 64gb cards and have them try to format it, unmount, and stuff it in your tab and try it...

I've tried to format using the tablet directly, and using my phone (note II) to do that. After it formats and i put the stuff in, the files either get corrupted or the sd card. I am unmounting the sd card correctly so it's not that issue. My other try that I'm going to do is try to format it with an apple computer or linux.
i also have problem with my 32gb microsd, if i insert it on my tab 3 7.0 i can't put any files to it. tried formatting it on my tab but still problem exist. also i've inserted the card on my microsd card reader and on my other devices and it's working fine. when i insert it back on my tab the filenames on the sdcard are change with some weird symbols. now i'm using a 2gb and working on my tab. don't know which of the two (32gb card or my tab) has the problem..

SD card is always corrupted after 6.0 update.

My SD card is always corrupted. I tried using different SD cards even i bought a brand new SD card and it is still giving me issues . I did a factory reset and still does the same. Anyone else with the same issue?
What's the capacity and speed of your SD card? How are you formatting the SD card? Do you use it preformatted or format using the phone? The reason I'm asking is it seems to me that Sony has set a too low timeout values for formatting and mounting the SD card. So if your card is very big or not fast enough, the phone would timeout too early when formatting and/or mounting the SD card on boot, thus causing it to be detected as corrupted. At least that is how it seems on my phone.
perhaps have reset your phone from previous backup ? if this is the problem already happened to me ,
They are both high speed cards 10 cards Toshiba and Samsung to be more specific. When i format them they seem to kinda work at the beginning i even managed to copy a video file but after a phone restart it gets corrupted .
MM updated through xperia companion here, seems to be working normally with the old microsd card
Hi Team,
I also have the same issue here, whenever I move applications to SD card (Samsung Class 10), the application stops working and I have to
reboot the phone to have it running again. Though it happens only... when phone is from Doze mode, turned on the screen with power button, and after turning on mobile data and run the app like COC or Viber it crashes. Now this happens only, if my application is in SD, if it's on the phone it's working fine.
Hello everyone.
I also have this problem. I have a Sandisk ultra (red and grey) 32gb class 10 sd card, and my M5 on 6.0 cannot format it at all, first it says it's corrupted and I have to fix it, then the format screen is stuck on 20% and after a while it says the card cannot be formatted. The card isn't counterfeit, and it worked flawlessly in my m4. It was replaced under warranty because I presumed it became faulty, and I still have the same problem. There is no problem with it on my PC. Also the phone freezes when the card is removed and I have to turn it off with a paperclip on the small "off" button.
You have sd card restrictions on 6.0, so you can use it for media, can't move apps... I've got Transcend sd card class 10, no problem at all.
I know about the SD card restrictions but my card was working fine in 5.1 for storing photos and videos taken by the camera applications . Now i have tested even more cards and they all have the same behavior. Even with an 4GB and 8 GB Toshiba cards and an old 2GB transcend card.
tonev, how are you formatting the card?
On the phone it self. Also tried to format it on my laptop , Same result. Sometimes it works fine and after i restart my phone it gets corrupted again
any news or fix here? seems we're stuck with this sd behavior? can't really move apps to sd card?

Is it correct to assume that you restart the phone only using the default power menu and not using any third party interface?
Another thing, it is not advisable to format the SD card using Window's Format function. It is possible to damage the SD card this way. The safest way to format an SD card in Windows is by downloading and using the SDFormatter utility. I don't know if formatting you card in Windows is what has caused your SD card to be corrupted, but it is something to be considered.
Yes i do restart the phone only by using the default power button. menu. And none of my cards are corrupted because they work fine on other devices. As i said before a brand new never used genuine samsung SD card does not work on the phone.

Internal memory formatted SD card issues

I've an Samsung evo+ 256GB SD card formatted as internal storage in my HTC 10 for almost 2 years now.
2 months ago I decided to upgrade to a Samsung evo+ 256GB v2, with slightly better speeds. I simply cloned the old SD to the new one.
Everything was always fine, worked great till yesterday.
I had some weird stutters while playing music and then I noticed the UI was also getting stutterish.
Went to bed, charged my phone as I usually do. When I woke up and checked my mail the phone just froze and rebooted.
After reboot the phone told me the SD card was missing
I decided to shut down the phone and examine the SD card but the phone just got stuck shutting down, I had to force reboot and shutdown again.
I tested the SD by a full byte by byte read in Western Digital diagnostic tool for harddrives to see if my SD was broken, but it was fine, no errors.
I popped the SD back in my phone, started and the SD mounted fine, no issues so far.
Could the file system be corrupt? If it is, how do I fix it?
I could try and move the data to an external drive and reformat the SD, I've a USB 3 OTG cable. But I'm not sure how to do that either.
Will Android move the data for me automatically when removing the SD card as internal storage?
Stutters continued today unfortunately, especially when doing a SD benchmark.
I decided to use clonezilla and do a clone of the card to another one to see if that improves anything.
On the old SD I had 72MB/s read and 20MB/s write according to A1 SD bench
Internal storage 225MB/s read and 41MB/s write
On the cloned SD I have 74MB/s read and 19MB/s write
The difference is that the cloned SD is a Samsung evo+ 256GB v1 and the old one a Samsung evo+ 256GB v2
I don't get it though, doing a benchmark on a PC shows 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write.
I advice you to check media files. I had lived same problem. I found solution by chance . I attached sd card to my notebook to backup dcim and music folder. While copying the files, suddenly copy process stopped on a not special file. I removed the sd, re attached and deleted that file before continue to copy. When copying finished, i attached the sd card to phone... Whola... Without formatting or doing nothing extra the card started to work as expected
