Your device has been modified - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While trying to update my tab 3 8.0 (rooted) an error appears saying my device has been modified.
Is there anyway to fix this? Thank you

try unrooting and run the update again

You cannot update any device if you have modified it like rooting it or putting custom roms/kernels. The makers don't want you to modify the device. If you want to update remove any modifications to your device. So yea.

To be a little more specific in case anyone comes looking....You need to odin/kies back to complete stock and/or most importantly return stock RECOVERY and boot image, best to just completely wipe and odin. Same with any Samsung

If you have installed supersu, there is an option in settings says "unroot" tab on it

Removing CWM Recovery off stock device

Hi. I was wondering how I would go about removing CWM Recovery off my stock s3.
My computer isn't that good and I want to remove it so I can do the jb update. It keeps saying the file signature failed and wont install and I thought if maybe I got rid of CWM it would let me update.
All help is appreciated.

Same issue here. I have CWM Recovery and the device is rooted. Doesn't seem to like the OTA for Jelly Bean.
My device isn't rooted tho. That's why I wanna get rid of it. If I was rooted I'd flash jb. I couldn't get rooted. My computer screen wasn't big enough to click ok in Odin. And when I finally did It rebooted but said it couldn't finish the root.

Update:
Flashed stock recovery. Went to do update and the update got to 24% and rebooted. Pop-up said it failed and to use kies.
Ill try again later and see if maybe a new update cache would fix it.

I used the SnapDragon tools to restore to stock recovery. Worked like a charm.

Just heard that the update is coming to canada on Wednesday. Will I need to unroot my note 2 for the update to work? Can I use CF method to re root again once the update has completed?

As long as you have stock recovery you are good. However after the update you may loose root, and your device status may say modified unless you factory reset.

Ota would not work this morning. It downloaded and attempted to install but once the phine rebooted it said firmware failed to install.

Remove root.
Then install update.
Reapply root.
I'd recommend a custom rom. You get so much more. And it's been multi Window 4.1.2 since October.

did you flash this 4.1.2 firmware to it or is that stock/how it was shipped? when did it start doing this?
. It was formally running JB4.1.1 then I downloaded the rom and upgraded it. I flashed it with odin.
I noticed the error when I unlocked and rooted it. But then I thought it was one of the downside of rooting

you should really be searching around in the international section if you are using an i9300.
if you have the correct ROM/firmware for your device, you could booting into recovery and wiping data/cache. then reflash the firmware, boot into recovery again and perform the 2 wipes again.

[Q] problem updating througth OTA

Hello XDA:
i have had a little problem updating my n7100 with the last stock room througth OTA. i have my phone rooted, but with triangle away i havey status "normal". My phone download normaly the update (70 mb) and when i acept it, the phone restart and beguin to update. When my phone is around 25% it show a error (the icon show the android logo with a warning signal) and my note start again without any update.
Someone have the same problem? I know that i can update it with odin or samsung kies, but i prefere OTA (i have a lot of chooses and it will be a hard work to save)
Thanks in advance and my best regards!

+1 Same here.
Just forget the OTAs when you're rooted. I couldn't make OTA work on my Nexus 7 which is stock Google, and Samsung is way more complicated. Just find the right ROM on Samy mobile and flash via Odin. Easy as pie. You won't lose any apps or data or settings.

Update Software

Can anyone tell me, how to step by step update my rooted ICS LG OGP E988 to newest version (JB)?
This might help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460859
Just unroot your phone using the instructions in the above thread. Then from the phone settings menu--> about phone--> update. Check for the update, it will prompt you to update to jb 4.1.2

Using the original stock rom 4.1.2 formerly, I could not get update from setting. When doing flash by using kdz file, it was stuck with 'low bat' warning. Now, I just got the original stock version with custom rom.
Any advice on how to continhe flasing the updated stock rom?

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated..
But I had try that method and fail. I had full unroot using the option in SuperSU (chainfire). When I try install Jellybean, the installation stop in 3% and show error message say it can't be install in rooted device.
Do you think quad control in setting has same function as app cpu sleeper?
