[Q] why root galaxy 10.1 tab3 - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought a new galaxy 10.1 tab 3. What is there to gain if I root? are there features that I can unlock? Have used other tablets that I rooted and was happy the with the rooted tab. Thanks for your answers.

Mainly, you will have full access to your system. You can run root only stuff like titanium backup and xposed framework. Basically, you get to do what you want with your device. You can unlock some hidden features, but for full awesome control, you will need root and custom recovery.

You.!!! ! Kidding me ???!! Why not root + without root u can not flash any custom rom ...sir
So which phone u were using previously ? Iphone or nokia 3310 lolz. Any ways look for Android Revolution HD 19 or wanam Lite v2.9 both are based on latest stock samsung roms for good start.

Lets start at the beginning - rooting your device means you have "Administrator" rights on it and gives you the ability to do stuff you aren't supposed to do without root. The most basic example is - block most of the ads you see when browsing the web with your favorite browser and when using your apps.
It also gives you the ability to flash custom ROMs (which are new "Operating Systems" that have been modified for the better by other XDA members), install more root apps that let you do incredible things, and lets you change your DPI (making all the stuff on your phone smaller, thus giving you more things to see on your phone at any given time!).
In short, there are countless of possibilities. I'd recommend sticking with the Samsung based ROMs for a start as they will be more familiar. Specifically, I would recommend starting with Phoenix ROM (found here). It might be a big ROM (weighing 1.5GBs to download), but contains most of the features you'd ever need. I started with it and no matter which other ROM I try I just can't find anything better.
Please note, however, that you're better off reading about how to root, flash new recoveries and ROMs, what's EFS and how to backup it, and understanding what you're about to do before starting. Everything can be found on these forums
Good luck
The only thing you'd be losing is your warranty.
10/10 would recommend rooting.
Can we rollback to Samsung provided OS incase have to claim warranty due to some issue?
What are the chances of bricking the phone?
Sent from my GT-N7100
Yes you can, you can roll back to non-rooted original ROM. Not sure if it applies to all ROMs but some methods of rooting increase flash count which can be seen by technicians thus voiding your warranty. but there are ways to remove it/set back to 0. Just do what Freezeil said and read through the Dev section and see what can be done and the outcomes of actions taken. Personally I've only got Root on my N2 as all I wanted was to install several apps that require root(Titanium Back Up, Root Explorer, Lucky Patcher, etc.) and I'll be sticking to original ROMs on it, i.e. no custom ROMs. but it'll all depend on what you want. On my N1 I'm running different ROMs depending on my mood and I like experimenting with it. But always make sure you make a back up of your ROM and EFS file which contains your IMEI coz if it goes while flashing, it's a ***** to get back on your own.
If you do root check out the xposed framework and its apps. There is just about every customisation possible, its worth rooting for that alone

rooting does not void warranty as now contributors and dev here has done great job as even after root the binary status remain unchanged so the only thing u need to do is just a click to unroot and if anything goes wrong still samsung wont be able to make out it was rooted you can check pre rooted odex rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230250 its normal samsung stuff with root priveledge u even have mods now to root it one click ,the only thing which voids warranty is custom recovery which can be reverted as already mentioned.

suggest u to download the odex rooted latest rom linked above and as those are samsung firmware default ,only if u want the latest firmware orelse just go rooting ,if u like custom then get your recovery to philz or twrp
note:backup your efs atleast 2 to 3 times just to be safe and keep it on pc or online storage
I like samsung rom which is pre-installed and would love if i can only get root access to this. So i should look for a way to get root access to this version itself. Can i achieve that? Any link that i can follow?

Galaxy toolkit is a simple tool to enable you to root your phone.
The main thing you will lose if you root is sky go if you use it. New eu law States you shouldn't lose your warranty either.
But you need to ask your self is it right for you to root your phone?
If you want increased volume, better anti theft protection, fewer ads, firewall, sd card memory swap, ability to Flash different roms, kernels etc etc etc.
The best rom I've found by a country mile is Jedi 17 rom.
Good luck and post back your findings

The day you are going to get a 4.3 update from Samsung is light years away. Let's conclude, it's too early to worry about it.:highfive:
@hellobye80
To get OTA just use Multitool mentioned in a link just above your post by @shhbz
select clean option
then open SuperSU app - setting -Full unroot.
After this you should get OTA, in case you didn't get try factory reset.
Still issue, you can get 4.3 (OR ant ROM) by flashing with Odin.
Thanks All.
Is there any app that i can use to restrict some permissions that are allowed to some applications like "Facebook" app that has access to "call phone number directly" .
Sent from my GT-N7100
Use xPrivacy xposed module.
First search xposed framework then you can get xPrivacy from that framework application itself.

I was reading a few articles and found something about flash counters. Do i have to worry about resetting the flash counters and if yes how can i do that? i am on stock rom with root access. i have followed this "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696" to root my phone using "1.Root with Stock Recovery - CF auto Root from Chainfire"

@dr.ketan I used Triangle Away to reset my counter ... now my last worry is to be able to get 4.3 that is expected to be released by end of this month... what is the process to get a OTA and also have Root access with Stock OS. please suggest
Upgrade to 4.3 with root
Hello
JB 4.3 for N7100 is now released for Note 2 in India.
I am currently using n7100 with stock 4.1.2 which was rooted using Method 1 as mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696" (Thanks to @dr.ketan for step-by-step guide). using this method I was also able to reset the flash counter to 0.
Now i want to have Stock 4.3 on my device and have root access again. is there a similar guide available that i can follow to achieve this?
I also read about Samsung KNOX and its added to the 4.3 but not sure if i understand that correctly. is there any issues with rooting a phone with 4.3?
Please Suggest
Thanks

I guess you didn't googled before asking your question. Otherwise you would have find those links

The application runs on windows and it's really easy to use.

Has anyone heard of kingoapps rooting

Recently I came across a Samsung galaxy Grand forum on Facebook where some people claimed to root the phone using kingoapps one click method. This is said to be simple procedure with keeping stock recovery intact & one can get ota updates also. My question is is this true or its just trick to fool people?

Yea it's a valid tool available supporting a lot of devices, I'm not sure about ours
But it's been reviewed here at xda, cnet and droidviews but other phone users. As far as I know it uses adb to push SuperSU into the phone's system giving you root permissions.
It's basically made for noobs who are new to android and want their phone rooted without using Odin
http://www.kingoapp.com/
Personally, I rather root my phone myself than let a third party windows software push files into my phone.
Thanks for quick reply. I have rooted my phone with CWM recovery. I was interested in this because I can't get OTA updates after installing CWM

If you are on rooted stock Samsung ROM and not on any custom ROM like Slim, CM, GENNXT etc (ROMs which are modified) then you can still get OTA updates for your phone.
Check this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH5TX_Ig4sY
And I think there's also a thread for i9082 regarding this
Yes it works for me and advantage is OTA is still working but for customization we need cwm, as I tried flash gordon but not working for me
You will not full advantage of rooting.. For customizations we need CWM recovery to install any modded apps

Better use Cydia Impactor
For people like me who root just to use ViperFX and TiBa or Link2sd
Cydia Impactor is recommend
One main point to be noted is that it will not work on 4.2.2 ROMs as it depends on the MasterMey exploit which has been fixed by Sammy in every 4.2.2 ROM

[Q] Stupid Question about Rooting

This might be the stupidest question I've asked but: I am about to root my Note 10, I've made a backup. But does rooting reset everything? Like would I have to download all my apps again? Set my wallpapers and change my settings and all that? I am looking at
CF-AUTO Root
By Chainfire
Ported To the Note 10.1 (2014 edition) ByBeansTown106
And in the steps it mentions loading roms, I do not really care for roms, just the rooting ability. So am I starting over or does it just grant the root ability?
Thanks!
Whatever device you root, it doesn't reset nothing at all. Just unlocks the security privileges and makes you the administrator. When flashing roms then there yes you lose all your apps only but the rest things personally stay except apps

Hi, I was wondering if rooting the device would allow me to have Vietnamese as an language for the tablet. I read somewhere that Vietnamese is an option for some versions, so do I just need to flash a custom rom? Thanks.

Rooting/Tripping Knox - Boot Animation
Does the boot animation change in anyway (like showing a yellow triangle or something) after rooting / tripping Knox? I know some devices will show a yellow triangle during boot if you're running a custom rom, but I was wondering if it does something similar after rooting but still running the stock rom.

Nope after its flashed a red android dude or something popup will install supersu and give root. After that everything stays the same. The way samsung sees your rooted is by going into download mode.

Awesome - Thanks! I was hoping that was the case, that way I can still return it if I decide not to keep it (loving it thus far so I have no plans to return it).
Just out of curiosity, have you installed a custom recovery? If so, which one and have you had any issues performing a backup & restore? I saw where TWRP has (had?) an issue that prevented you from reading/writing to internal storage after restoring data. Would like to try out the CM11 ROM, but I'll hold off if you can't restore backups.

I have install a custom recovery and rom. Ive have not had issues backing and restoring with twrp. Idk about r/w part to internal storage. More people said that twrp 7.1.1 something has worked without any problems. I can confirm this too as I am using that version of twrp with no issues. As for the latest twrp 8.1.1somesort people said they were having problems with some of the stuff you mentioned. I have not tried it yet but twrp 7.1.1 or somesort works A ok. I also have restored my backuped from custom roms and it works just fine on twrp 7.1.1. So twrp 7.1.1 or something like that is your best bet. Hope this helps!
New T800 Tab S 10.5
I bought this nice piece for my mom in law who is German - and had to learn, that it doesn`t support German unless I use apps which need it to be rooted ... . So I wonder if the given directions work on this brandnew tab. It's type reads T800NZWAXAR and not T800XXU1ANH1. Can I root it with the given file (ID chagallwifixx) and won't brick it?

So has anyone achieved root with the latest update, ANK1 US version.
I'm hearing that Autoroot isn't working? I hope that's not true.
