I have EC05 right now. Yesterday I flashed to ACS MIUI and it seems to work fine. Today I try to upgrade to EI22 with CWM 5.0.2.7 using modem.EC05toEI22.zip, but I get an error every time:
Updating modem to EI22...
script aborted (no error message)E:Error in /sdcard/firmware/modem.EC05toEI22.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I tried re-downloading the file multiple times from different sources and I keep getting this error. What am I doing wrong?
Just had someone had a similiar issue with a modem.... can you odin back to stock ec05 and it completely flash everything?
It could be a hardware problem if your unable to flash back to stock ec05 and it gets stuck at modem.bin
Otherwise I'm sure someone else knows why its not flashing right... oh and have you tried flashing an alternative recovery possibly acs recovery5 its better. One more thing are you flashing from rom managers boot to recovery or your 3 finger salute?

I odined back to stock EC05 then ota'd to EI22. Except now after I rooted and installed clockwork mod I can't boot into clockwork mod, I can only get into android system recovery, which I can't install a custom rom from. I have tried installing ACS CWM and the latest official CWM via odin and I still can't boot into anything but regular android system recovery using the three finger boot.
What is wrong now?

Samsung put a code into the kernel that reboots the original recovery mode every reboot. Download a custom kernel (which will overwrite this setting.) I recommend nebernal for this as it will work on rfs and I don't know if the others will... there is a qbking vid to properly root on ei22 if this is confusing you... Odin the cwm .tar and DON'T have auto reboot checked. After flashing cwm pull battery and reboot into recovery via the 3 finger method... now flash that kernel I told you to download and boom you now have a cwm tha sticks after reboot!!! Now you can flash whatever rom you would like... btw for future reference I'm pretty sure you have to mount/system in cwm when flashing anything from the new miui and cm roms because of the new mtd partition...

Thanks! I will give it a shot tonight. Can you please explain for a noob what you meant by "btw for future reference I'm pretty sure you have to mount/system in cwm when flashing anything from the new miui and cm roms because of the new mtd partition..." ?

Not sure if this entirely right but with the new partition or reserved memory space the system needs to mounted in order for anything affecting or changing the system to work properly. However to do so its in mounts and storage you'd need to go to mount /system in cwm and then try flashing the ec05toei22.zip then it should work.

Hey all can't post in the rom's thread so here will have to do hope someone can answer this.
Got the rom working fine. The issue is A.) I lose CMW
why? and is there a guide for installing cmw standalone without flashing a kernel?
B.) gapps don't appear even though i def flashed them as OP said to.
Permutations tried so far:
- OP verbatim
- OP + F10AOKP kernal as recommended in OP
Thanks to any and all
using cwm with an ics kernel has been causing bricks. It happened to me once already had the have best buy replace my phone. Most devs aren't packing cwm with ics kernels for the time being this may change but for now its safer this way. When I need to flash something I use mobile Odin to flash back to el26 then I wipe cache flash what I need then flash an aosp kernel : ) and boot

Thanks for clearing that up for me! Also I figured out my gapps issue some trial and error led me to follow CM9's gapps link and that did the trick.
you lose your recovery because of two related reasons:
1) on this device (not sure if it applies to all samsung devices, though i think it does apply to most), kernel and recovery are packaged together and therefore always flashed at the same time. when you flash a kernel, you always lose whatever recovery you had before.
1.1) since you flashed aokp, which includes a kernel, you therefore lost your recovery because of reason 1. no big. next time you need to flash something over AOKP or make a nandroid, just odin el26 kernel which includes cwm (search for it, not gonna link it), and do your thing. just remember to reflash the ROM before rebooting cuz el26 is a gb kernel which wont work with aokp (because it's ICS).
Also you should read the first couple post in the thread....it explains what is what with the ROM and that it doesn't have cwm ...etc

CWM Rogue Recovery doesn't seem to be sticking on my E4GT. Flashed CM9 Alpha 3 from stock rooted rom. When Alpha 4 was released, I tried to boot into CWM Recovery and ended up with stock recovery. Ended up having to odin back to stock and start over to get Alpha 4 running. Same problem now that Alpha 5 is out there, tried to boot into CWM Rogue Recovery and get stock recovery.
Doing a search shows that this seems to occur on other phones. They've resolved it by deleting a boot recovery file with Root Explorer. I was just hoping to confirm with someone that this method will work on the E4GT and the name and location of the file that needs to be deleted.
I'm assuming I'll have to odin back to stock and start the process over again and delete that file once I load up CWM Rogue Recovery again?
Thanks for the help.
CM9 comes with stock recovery. Look up EL26 kernel and learn to use it. Its your best friend for flashing on this phone. Also read up a little more on CM9 as it explains this.
This method will not work. With our phone, recovery has to be packed into the kernel, its not separate from other partitions like it is on other phones. This is why whenever you flash a new rom, your current recovery is replaced by the new roms packed in recovery. The reason its stock Android recovery is because of the bricking issue we've been having in ICS custom recovery so devs aren't including it into the kernel<rom.
So when you need CWM, flash the directboot CWM under the tools page in the epic4g touch CM blog spot website. You Odin that and it takes you straight to a sage recovery where you can flash the alpha 5 update. Understand?

Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction. I realized that I would have to go back to the EL26 to flash new roms. I didn't realize that I would have to do that to flash over an existing rom with an update. Thanks for setting me straight.
hmmm....interesting. The CM9 instruction page does not mention that you need to Odin the DirectBoot CWM when upgrading. I can see why a lot of people are skipping that step.
Thanks for the heads up, I am going to upgrade to alpha 5 after work. I'll make sure to Odin the DirectBoot CWM kernel first.

It is a new kernel modification that did not exist a couple weeks ago. The EL26 CWM kernel itself has been around since the end of last year. Being completely optional to use the new modded one you probably wont find it in instructions. I for example will never use it but others will find it easier because they do not understand why the phone goes into bootloops.
Hi guys,
A small problem here: I have no recovery/kernel anymore.
When booting up the phone, it starts directly in Download Mode, specifying: "Reason: No Kernel".
Moreover, if I want to boot in recovery mode, it goes into an infinite loop, listing the message:
Booting Android recovery
No recovery kernel ##
Booting Android recovery
No recovery kernel ##
Booting Android recovery
No recovery kernel ##
...
This happens after trying to flash (via CWM) a package which was wrongly created, and everything was erased. That is, all partions formatted.
I tried Odin-ing CWM again, but though without any error, CWM still doesn't start.
Does anybody know this problem (or solution)? Should I provide any additional info?
Any idea will be highly appreciated.
You could first try using Odin to flash a stock rom, seeing as you're missing a kernel which is part of android. Perhaps then flashing CWM will result in a working copy?
As a hail-mary In you could also give the oneclick ICS-leak a try, as it contains pretty much everything, a recovery and android.
If succesful, you should be able to Odin back CWM and restore any backups. You will lose everything presently on the phone, though.

Using the leaked 4.0.4 update exe, you should be able to restore your phone, as it includes a kernel as well. Alternatively, if you're not interested in ICS, you could flash one of the gingerbread kernels, like this one, which should let you flash a working CWM and then the rom you wanted.
I am interested in ICS. Though, the first option didn't work either. I had to go for ardatdat's boot, which put by the CWM in order to flash ICS. Thanks a lot, much appreciated!
I'm glad something worked at least we got a lesson if it should happen again, thanks for sharing that something worked

I have some questions and need help fast if possible. I'm currently on CM10 beta 2 and only have a nandroid backup from being stock rooted. I know you can't simply restore a backup from jelly bean to ICS. I was playing with ROM Toolbox, and was installing some custom transitions. I did a backup of the stock transitions, but the zip backup file won't flash in recovery. Anyway I can't boot up and only get the Galaxy S II boot screen. I can however get into download and CM CWM based recovery. I've done quite a few searches, with no real answers for this issue. Any help will be greatly apreciated because I don't have my phone until I figure out exactly what to do. Do I have to download a stock ROM with cusom kernel to computer then transfer over file via usb using Odin and then use CWM to flash the stock ROM? I know not to do a factory wipe unless I'm on el26 or 29. I also know you can odin to them then flash, but all the odin kernels with CWM are from ICS and I can't find a solid method for my specific situation.

Thanks Blues. But I need to flash el29 or six before flashing right? So I'm guessing I need to Odin to one? And I can do that from any ICS or JB right? So I just need the one click for PC Odin, then flash with Odin? Sorry, I just want to be 100% here.

Use the one click.exe full rom file that will flash the full el29 gb rom. Then from there you can flash cwm to flash cm10 or whatever rom you want.
But do I have to go el29 or 26? How do I get there from where I'm at now? Thanks again, and sorry I just want to be 100% here.
Edit: Okay, great. After flashing that I obviously could do my nandroid restore? Just because I lost some pictures or something happened when I flashed to JB because I only had a few pics and none of my SMS or call logs or anything came through.
Ok, just so the thread is not a complete waste, I did flash the stock ROM via PC ODIN. Went back to stock, was able to do a nandroid restore, and went ahead and flashed CWM recovery via Mobile ODIN. Went ahead and wiped factory in CWM recovery and flashed CM10. Thanks again Blues, next time I'll just post in your noob thread. . I'm not a noob but I just never had to PC ODIN when not being able to boot and wasn't sure how safe it was in my specific state.
P.S. Any other users are more than welcome to P.M. me if you have any questions. I probably won't visit here again
