Greetings,
I have a Telus SGH-i1317M that I previously rooted. Since then I was always getting the "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available" scolding when checking for OTA. Lo & behold this morning I was offered to download 4.3 so I did. However the installation failed.
Once the download completed, I was asked to reboot to start the installation. I'm afraid the little android guy fell down at 26% and was promptly stabbed in the heart by an angry looking red exclamation mark.
Any suggestions?

I went to my phone settings today to check for the jellybean OTA update thinking it wouldn't work since my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 is rooted & has clockwork mod.
Well it said update available, I selected it & it downloaded the update & then needed to reboot.
When the screen came back on there was the android with the spinning cube in his stomach & a progress bar below.
The progress bar only got about halfway done before the screen changed to android on his back with a red triangle in his stomach.
At the top of screen was a list with the 1st one being reboot phone. I rebooted & when phone started back up it said, "update failed, phone has been returned to original state"
What can I do short of completely un-rooting my phone to get jellybean & then re-rooting?
Waste of time. Just wait for the official jb update

I have the Galaxy Note II with T-Mobile.
Some background: It was running Android 4.1.2. I rooted my phone once, about two weeks ago, just so I could take an image of it in case of an update issue. (I think the software was called nandroid.) Once I took the backup, I unrooted it again.
Since then, doing the Software Update check under settings never returned any results. It would just keep checking until I clicked cancel.
Anyway, when T-Mobile released the 4.3 update Monday morning, I tried updating to it using the Kies software on my PC (by connecting it through the USB cable). It got up to about 60% installation and then just hung for over an hour. So I unplugged the phone, re-plugged it back in, and then attempted the emergency firmware recovery through Kies. It went through this and got upto 76% installation and then just hung again for another hour. I again unplugged it to re-try the emergency recovery again, but every time I connected the phone, Kies would not detect it again. I re-seated the battery, rebooted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled Kies, but Kies would not detect my phone again.
I can't even figure out a way to get to a screen where I can install the image I took using Nandroid a few weeks ago.
Any help or advice anyone can provide would be extremely appreciated!

I am/was running the stock rom, but I think I left out an important piece of information-- my phone won't even boot into it's normal screen. Any time I turn it again, i see the screen--"there were errors during firmware upgrade. try emergency recovery in Kies."
I will repost in the correct forum. Thanks for your help.
I have an unrooted stock Samsung Note 8 that got an OTA update and is now stuck in a loop trying to install it but always ends up showing error after the install apparently fails.
This was never rooted and it was just factory reset prior to the update, and the update was something small like 7MB or something. I think it is on android 4.2.something. I can get it into Odin mode but since it is completely stock I am not sure if that will be enough. I am guessing I will have to figure out how to connect it to a PC and flash new firmware but it has been years since I have done anything like it and don't even know where to begin.
I hope a good soul in this forum has enough patience to point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Rita:crying:
I received a notification for an update today, so I went ahead and did it. It completed one cycle and then rebooted and began a new cycle. At 30% the android mascot fell over and the update failed. This continued for 10 minutes or so. I then shut the phone down after a reboot and it went to a boot loop getting to the Samsung/Android logo. I read that going into recovery mode could fix the issue with a wipe cache and restore, only, trying to get into recovery mode gives me a blue screen with an message saying "software not authorized by at&t is installed on the phone".
I bought the phone today and did not do much except mess with the streaming apps. I did not try to root or install custom roms and I believe the error is due to the update not completing. Is there a way I can fix this or should I just take the phone back to at&t and get a new one? As I said, I bought it today (technically yesterday I guess).
Thanks in advance for the feedback and advice
Try flashing the latest firmware from sammobile or updato.com or use the samfirm tool from XDA (fastest) and ODIN 3.13.1 to flash it
Use CSC and not HOME_CSC
Flash all 4 parts together
This will not void warranty or trip knox
I purchased a Galaxy Note 8 (GT-N5110) and it has the 4.1 OS. I tried to update it OTA and said it had been modified and was ineligible. So I looked and under status it said custom not official. So I attempted to update with KIES 2 and it was stopped by a , "Invalid Magic String" error. The knox Flag was tripped already so I am sure someone at some point had installed a nonstandard firmware upgrade or attempted a root. I notes that the OTA upgrade was a 4.2 upgrade so I tried the 4.4 firmware update in case someone had previously bootstrap locked it. I was unable to update using Odin. Whenever the device is off, the charge symbol just sits there, no animation and the device does not charge. If it is on it will charge. I attempted again last night and it failed. Now all the screen does is flash with the inactive charge Icon on the screen. I cannot get to the Odin download screen or the recovery screen. All out of ideas and need a little help.
Thanks
Same issue with me...
