Hi, my device doesnt have the option to switch between 3g and edge in the cellular settings. Does anybody know why and what can I do to get them like in other wp8 devices? I had the same problem for 30 minutes on my 820, but the cellular got updated from the marketplace. Not this time, unfortunately.

Hi,
Does anyone know of any app that restricts data connection to only when in WCDMA (UMTS 3G) network?
Reason why is that i use my Dopod D810 to surf the net and download files. However i have managed to rack up $320 in roaming charges for internet usage even though i am on a 1 GB XSeries plan on 3.
I was not aware that i was roaming at all. So in future, i want my phone to automatically disconnect when "Roaming".
Is there such an app? I have tried Bandswitch but i couldnt get it to do what i wanted.
use search.
There is an app called trinity hacks or something that adds this feature.
Are you sure? I have Trinity Hacks v0.3 and it doesnt seem to have this feature.
What i want is for my phone to automatically disconnect once it is "roaming" onto Telstra's network from the 3 network.
Yes,
Trinity Hacks v0.3 --> Phone tab --> 'Enable GSM/UMTS Band Selection'
Ticking this enables a new tab under 'Settings' --> 'Phone' --> 'Band'
Switch it from 'auto' to 'WCDMA'
Then you will never incur roaming charges on Telstra network.
Yeah i already have that setup.
What i want is to be able to Roam to Telstra so i get full PHONE coverage, but once it goes to roaming, i want the data connection to automatically disconnect.
What you have asked me to do is to permanently connect only to 3G which means i cannot get reception everywhere.
Does that make sense?
What you want is not possible without some serious programming! The Radio stack can be set to connect to GSM, UMTS/WCDMA or either, but you can't split voice and data functionality.
Hi,
Thanks for all your replies, but im not asking for voice and data functionality to be split. The phone can already tell whether it is roaming or on the home network. Isn't it just a matter of getting this information from the phone possibly via the OS API and then when the phone returns a value to signify that its roaming, then the program will disconnect the connection, just like pressing the disconnect button, but this time programmatically?
Im not asking for someone to write something like this, but if something already exist like this.
Maybe this reply is not needed anymore sinds the thread is one month old. Still, I use spb grps monitor. It has a lot of customization option. Maybe it has a feature that will do the trick. I'm not going to look into it myself. Just wanted to give you a headsup.
hey guys
ok so i have the TP2 running WM 6.5 professional
ROM 1.86.401.0 (67102) WWE
ROM date 25/9/2009
radio 4.49.25.17
protocol ver. 61.44tc.25.32U
my service provider is Etisalat in the UAE
the problem that im having is that when i set the BAND to AUTO, it picked up the the 3G network...but problem is that it keep shuffling between 3G and EDGE. because of that it wont recieve calls. one fix i was told was to manually select GSM BAND. the call problem was solved because of that.
but since i have done this, i been having another porblem. after using internet to say update the weather tab, i cant make or recieve call, or send sms or anything. everytime i use internet on the TP2, i have to switch to AIRPLANE MODE and then back to PHONE its driving me nuts
anyone facing the same problem? or has a fix to this?
Switching between 3G and Edge is normal, because not everywhere you have good service.
But just to make sure:
When you set band to AUTO and you are switching between 3G and Edge, can you call someone?
I had problems with my HTC Kaiser in the UAE. Etisalat and Du told me they only can provide mobile internet to BlackBerries and IPhones...
yeah, when it is switching between 3G and Edge, i cant make calls and i cant recieve calls either. they say my cell if off while its actually on

Go into the Bands page (where you manually select the bands). Press "WCDMA" to enable 3G only. That will keep you in 3G, but if you go into a non-3G area, you won't get any signal at all.
EDGE can only handle one thing at a time. If you don't have an active data connection, you can use the phone (call, SMS). If data connection is active, you can't use the phone functions. So, if you're on a webpage and someone calls you, their call won't go through.
3G allows you to use phone functions and data at the same time. So if you're on a web page and someone calls you, you can answer it.
ok that was surprisingly simple.. thanks
Edge can only handle one thing at a time? I routinely get and make calls and browse at the same time (or get emails via active outlook push connections, etc). And this is both when I'm in Edge areas (eg when I go to my cabin in Montana (heck - ANYWHERE west of Milwaukee) or when I have 3G (around here).
This does, however, appear to be a feature strictly of AT&T. But I don't believe the inability to do simultaneous data and call is a hardware or even Edge technology limitation - I believe its a network specific limitation.
Having said that, my money would be on an incorrect radio or DLL hanging around in the phone...
(Standard disclaimer: I know nothing about non-US carriers or their oddities. I reserve the right to be wrong- a right I exercise somewhat frequently )
well i upgraded to WM6.5 so the radio is the one that came with the upgrade.nothing else has been changed.
have a feeling the problem is with the phone as my pervious phone, sony ericsson's P990i had absolutely no porblems switching from data to call and back to data without having to do anything.
one thing i noted is that once i start an internet session, it keeps running unless i turn the switch to airplane mode to force a connection break.
I just bought a T Mobile LG G3 (D851) for use on AT&T. The guy I bought it from got the unlock code from T Mobile and that is all squared away and unlocked. Things are basically working on AT&T, but data is not working reliably for me. It works fine for awhile, then it just stops working--the 4G/LTE logo in the status bar disappears and I have no connectivity. I can still make phone calls and send/receive SMS texts (though no MMS texts), and if a wifi network is around, that works too. Rebooting does not seem to correct it (though it does start working again eventually).
I don't know if it is just random, but it does seem to happen after I'm leaving somewhere with wifi (and that may not even be relevant--might be that's just when I notice it).
I have verified my APN settings (as well as tried other slightly different settings I've found around the web), but the data network still drops out. Yesterday, I discovered a technique that seems to reliably bring it back on after it has dropped out. If I change the Network Mode to anything else (ex: just GSM), then back out of the network options menu... then go back in and set Network Mode back to LTE (etc). Every time I have tried this, I get the 4G/LTE logo back in the status bar and my connectivity is back.
I know there is some difference in the LTE bands supported by AT&T and the T Mobile LG G3 (D851), but the phone supports band 17, which I'm told is the main LTE band used by AT&T. At this point, I think I'd be satisfied just to have consistent 4G (non-LTE) data.
Any idea what might be the issue? Or anything I can try out? I'm considering flashing a different rom to see if that helps, but wanted to exhaust other options first.
Thanks...
i have a couple of the sprint lg v50 (lgv450pm) and are stock and updated to latest firmware.
we v50 users get alot of info from you G8 users as they are very similar hardware.
we all know VoLTE does not work but lately i cant even keep the phone on the network as it always is getting knocked off especiailly when driving and switching towers.
i always have to put phone in airplane mode for about 10 seconds then turn it off and it reconnects.
anyhow my question is this.
does anyone know what would happen if we disable the 5g network from hidden menu or use some software like cdma workshop or dfs studio?
Automatic Network mode would still work fine but not try to auto connect to 5g which is what i would like to test.
i know i can manually select which network mode but then you can only get data to work or voice and i do want them both to work (although it cannot do it at same time) im ok with that.
im just tired of losing networks and not even knowing until i look at my phone and see i have no cellular or data connection at all.
i would think it might stay on the network better if we can still be in automatic network mode but have 5g disable completely so it dont even try and connect.
anyone want to try and help with this?
Hello all. I just purchased an A52S about one week ago and have service with T-Mobile. I'm located in Long Island, NY. The phone is obviously marketed as a 5G phone. I receive all T-Mo bands EXCEPT for 4 and 71. When I check which band my phone is connected to (at home) it spends its time evenly split among bands 2, 12, 41 and 66. Initially I thought my phone was only displaying the 4G icon no matter which band I was connected to. However I was mistaken in thinking a + icon was a DL/UL transfer arrow. So when connected to 41 my phone is showing the 4G+ icon. At no time have I seen an LTE or 5G icon. I ran a speedtest while 4G+ was showing and received 208Mbps/6.21Mbps. I'm pretty happy with the DL, however quite curious why I'm only generating a 6.21 UL. This leads to a few questions....
re: On my Home Screen
Ques 1) I guess I'm ok not seeing a LTE icon since 4G+ is basically the equivalent of LTE-Advanced, or 4.5G. Is everyone else seeing a 4G+ or LTE icon?
re: During a call
Ques 2) My option for VoWifi and VoLTE are both turned ON. However during a call my phone does not show an icon for either service. (I only see the 4G icon during a call.) If I'm not on a call and look at my lock screen it shows that I'm on T-Mobile WiFi Calling. However during the call I see no confirmation that the phone is utuilizing VoWiFi or VoLTE. Does this matter? Should I see something? (I obviously only look for the VoLTE icon when Wifi is turned off.) If I navigate to SETTINGS --> ABOUT PHONE --> STATUS INFORMATION --> SIM CARD STATUS the phone shows that Mobile Voice Network Type = LTE. This seems correct and should confirm that the phone is utilizing VoLTE if the feature is turned on, which it is. However once again this is the only place within the entire phone that I see the letters LTE.
re: Internet
Ques 3) My upload speeds (mobile data) are horrendous. I regularly receive 1-2Mbps as a speedtest UL result. Why is this?
Other than these questions the phone performs perfect. Calls, texts, MMS, internet, all run perfect. I'm curious as to why the phone is only displaying certain icons. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hey there.
Maybe the model you have doesn't support major bands in the US. As far as I know, the A52 5G (US Model) does support all bands, unlike the A52s you own right now (feels like an imported model)

UPDATE: I've discovered the issue is simply the icon istelf, not the service. I have confirmed I receive all bands except for 4 and 71. I'm usually in band 41, which in my case displays a 4G+ icon. For anyone else using any other phone you would see the 5G-UC icon. When I plug my phone into the car for Android Auto, my car screen displays the LTE icon which reflects the 4G signal. I haven't paid attention to what AA displays when connected and my phone is showing 4G+. My VoLTE feature is provisioned and the option is turned on. Once again I believe it's working fine because in the ABOUT screen in my SETTINGS it shows my phone is using LTE for voice. In addition I see the 4G icon active during a voice call. I also see a Wifi icon in my call screen if I'm using VoWifi. I was also able to run a speedt test in an area with a strong band 41 signal, and my phone's upload was fine. Hence, I believe my terrible UL speeds at home is due to bad reception. All in all the phone works great. I bought a 512GB microsd, and assigned every app to utilize it when possible. Such a great feature. It's a very under-the-radar phone. Works great and has amazing features. The ONLY little bother to me is the horizontal scrolling of the app drawer. I'm so used to vertical that I kept swiping the wrong way and it was driving me nuts. I installed NOVA and all is good now.

If it helps, if you install Good Lock and the Home Up module you can have the app drawer vertical scroll option.
Warning though - it's terrible. I wish I could stick with Nova but the gesture navigation jankiness drove me crazy (all good though if you use nav buttons).
