[Q] Trouble getting USB keyboard to work. - Ouya Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased a usb keyboard for my ouya, was an average keyboard made by General Electric
Plugged it into the usb port, didn't work at all. I'm wondering if anyone has any troubleshooting steps to get keyboards working, or if anyone could suggest a cheap usb keyboard that they know works.
EDIT: Please delete the thread, I rebooted the ouya after installing the play store and the keyboard started working.

[Q] Keyboard

Hi guys,
Just received my GN and an usb otg cable and have one single question. Should it just work with an ordinary Dell usb keyboard out of the box? When I insert the camera it tells me that a keyboard is connected, but nothing happens wheb I press the buttons.... Could be the cable that's broken (even though it recognizes the keyboard on the note) or do I need a driver for the specific keyboard? The same goes for my usb mouse.
You should try a USB stick with fat32. If this don't work you don't have a working otg cable.
If you connect your mouse you should get "USB connector connected" and then "Mouse connected".
If its optical you should see the led for the optical sensor working.
And it should show a moving mouse cursor instantly.
My first OTG cable from eBay did not work. It does not had the connecting between two pins that is needed to make the note knows there is a org.
Thanks for your reply!
But I have now tried 3 different usb mice and usb keyboard and none of them works. BUT for all of them I get "keyboard connected" or "Mouse connected" in the status line at the top of screen. I therefore guess that the cable actually work - or could it be possible to have a connection but the cable won't support it? I also saw yesterday that not all usb devices are supported and my devices could be among here. It was a logitech, dell and hp usb keyboard....
Any ideas where to get a cheap working cable?
Weird. If it tells you it detects it, it have to work. I don't think it is the cable, because if it would not detect anything.
I tried with a simple logitech optical and a microsoft mouse. No problems for me.
Does the lights on the keyboard (num lock) and optical mouse are working?
You should try the cable on another device where you or someone you know is shure it should work...
Yes, it is very weird...but I hope that it was just something in the cable.... I bought a new (cheap) one on eby. Where did you get your cable?
Anyway, thanks for your help.

I have this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Micro-USB-Ho...972693?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3368b43555
Okay, now it's getting a bit strange. I tried my usb mouse and keyboard with my OTG cable on a SGS2, and everything worked, but it still not work on my Note.
Are you using stock rom? I am, and even though it says mouse/keyboard connected, there is not coming any input. So could ot be that the current stock rom does not contain the right drivers??
My lenovo optic mouse and sandisk thumb drive work great with stock KKA (kernel 2.3.6).
What firmware are you on?
Thanks dor your answer.
I am also on stock 2.3.6.
The strange thing is also that I have an external usb flashdrive which I can connenct without problems. I can't figure out what's triggering this behaviour with keyboard and mouse.... I guess i am going to wait for a update to the rom which could solve it then...

[Q] A100 Broken screen trying to make mouse work!

Hey all,
I fell on top of my A100 a few weeks ago (Don't ask me how) and the side had a nice hit.
I noticed the screen is checked, but the image is clean and perfect.
The touch is not working anymore except for on 1 location, on the top part, a few square cm,
My problem is that I don't have any insurance left (took off the void) soooo,,,yeah...
I want to use it as a media player, attached to my LCD with HDMI, using a mouse to controll it.
Thing is, no mouse gets detected on this rom.
I tried to downgrade to Gingerbread from ICS, so I reset user data and cache, downloaded the ROM, changed to update.zip, placed it into the SD card, volume up + power booted it, and I get this droid opened up with a red ! on it...
Everything I try doesn't react
The mouse is a very simple HID logitech BT mouse with USB, connected to microUSB in the A100, I tried the G9x logitech too, but no luck.
Can anyone help me here? I can't use the screen at all, I am desperate
Thanks!
PVTD
The USB port on the A100 does not have host mode, you can't use it for any USB devices, it is just a way to transfer data with a PC. If you can enable BT on theA100 you will get a mouse/keyboard working, I am just not sure how to do that with no touch response on the screen.

But I have seen multiple questions abut making host mouses work with USB on the A100, I'll try find the topics back
I could connect it by BT if I keep sinning the tablet around to make the few square cm work on the screen, but it wont be possible to accept
I tried using a screening app on windows, but sadly can only see immage from the tablet, no input remotely.

Is It Possible To Use USB Devices with the Kindle Fire?

I got a little micro usb to usb adapter for a buck and I've tried connected a few flash drives and a keyboard to it but nothing seems to happen.
Is there anyway to get usb devices to work with the kindle or no?

Yes, there are certain USB devices that work great with the Kindle Fire. First thing is, the device must be rooted and running a custom ROM. A recent JB ROM will do just nicely and CM7 on the Kindle DOES NOT SUPPORT OTG.
I successfully use a Logitech k120 keyboard without any problems. Usually as soon as I plug it in, the Kindle will recognize it and then it's useable. The keyboard DOES NOT require a powered USB hub. I also can use a USB optical mouse but a powered USB hub IS REQUIRED for that as the Kindle does not have enough power output from its micro-USB port.
I haven't really tried to mount a flash drive yet but some do require a powered hub and others do not.
Are you using an actual OTG adapter? I bought one off an online auction site for $2 and it was labeled for "Samsung" devices but that doesn't matter.
Thanks for your reply.
This is the adapter I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QX7KYU/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Did I get the wrong one?
Is there a notification to let you know it recognized a device? Anything in the settings I have to change?

That's the same one I bought. On the 4.2.2 ROM I run, as soon as I plug in the keyboard to the adapter some notification DOES come up but I can't remember what it says lol. If I try to plug in the USB optical mouse WITHOUT a powered hub, the mouse lights up indeed but that's all it does. It does not function other than lighting up.
I'm currently typing this on CM7 as my Kindle is set up to dual boot. Some keyboards are not compatible at all, I couldn't tell you which ones exactely but I remember seeing that stated somewhere down the line.
In reference to the Settings, there is nothing I had to change keyboard wise to get it to function. There are simple options for the mouse cursor like speed. The flash drive is a different story and many people have had to use apps like Stickmount and such to get them to work. Unfortunately flash drives are hit or miss and a couple different approaches have been used to mount them.
Hope that helps

USB OTG - external devices not recognised

Hi there,
I have a game that I wanted to play with an external controller, I've got a wired XBox 360 controller to hand, so I went down to my local computer shop and managed to get my hands on a usb otg adapter.
I was using a custom rom based on 4.2.2. When I plugged the controller in it gets power and the central light blinks. However, the system gives no message telling me what it is, and the controls do not work for the game.
I tried the USB host controller app and that told me "usb s3c driver not found", or something similar. It also did briefly tell me that the 360 device was connected.
I thought perhaps if I tried a different rom with a different kernel that might kick things into life. So last night I successfully installed the JazzRom from the development page for the Galaxy Note 8.0.
After that, I plugged in a mouse - which, low and behold, it recognized - I saw the cursor moving over the screen and everything! It did seem a bit dodgy though, in that it would say "mouse disconnected" when I hadn't, then I would plug it back in and it would connect again. My USB keyboard worked too.
Then I tried the XBox 360 controller and nothing happened.
I've tried various apps to diagnose the problem - but if the system doesn't pick up the device when you plug it in, it doesn't seem there's much you can do. What's more annoying, now the mouse and keyboard don't work either.
Is there nothing I can reset or alter (I have root access) to help? I've tried the cache in Settings and wiping the Dalvik cache. I have a app called USB/BT Joystick center now, that might help if it could get a signal from the controller, because somebody said it might just be the mapping of the XBox controller that stopped it working.
The only other thing I can think of is maybe a dicey otg cable.
Surely this should work, in theory, though?

Question S22 OTG Gamepad Gamesir x2

I have an S22 with Stock Android and bought Gamesir X2 to play XBOX Cloud and Retroarch games with it.
For some reason I decided to buy the USB-C version over the Bluetooth (I thought I was neat to be able to charge the phone while playing and also less input lag due to BT delays).
Thing is, gamepad arrived, I rushed to plug it in and found out nothing happened. Gamepad blue light stays blinking (its supposed to stay blu when connected) and the phone doesnt even detects anything.
This is supposed to be a simple OTG gamepad, so should be plug-n-play.
I reached to Samsung about 'how do I enable OTG to use my gamepad' and the answer was 'OTG is enabled by default'
I also reached out to Gamesir, they told me to try press G+S buttons on the pad while connected, but nothing happened
There's a Gamesir app that is suppsed to be used to detect it (and also map the gamepad on some touch screen games) but doesnt work for me
I also found some guy on youtube claiming I should enable ADB debug and set USB default to 'File transfer'. Doesnt work either
Anyone having the same issue?
Anyone having a USB-C Gamepad working?
Any ideas on what to try out to get it working?
Thanks in advance
I've recently run into a similar issue however on a S23+. The device I'm trying to use is a Seek CompactPro FF USB-C which uses powered OTG. No need of a cable as it has USB-C built into the device itself.
It didn't work at first, it detected it and tried to open the "Seek Thermal" app which is normal but in the app itself the device was not being detected. Did a ton of searching until finally I found another person having a similar issue where the work around was to plug in the OTG device, then reboot the phone with the device still plugged in.
Give that a try? IMO it shouldn't be like this, and it isn't very well documented anywhere I look...but that worked for me for my device. Did not work any other way. Device works perfectly fine after rebooting phone with it plugged in.

Thanks for your reply 86, tried that but didnt work for me. I saw a couple of videos where the blinking blue light might mean that its not connecting well (its supposed to stay blue) so I guess its something to do with how the cable is connecting. Since Gamesir already told me I have no warranty nor support from them as I bought it on Amazon instead of their site I'm thinking on tearing it appart during the weekend.
If I break it I'll end up with a nice pouch case for my cables (the most expensive pouch ever).
