Anyone know about the thering issue? - SM-T217S
I rooted my sprint Tab 3 and then I tried to tether my tab3 but I can't
I can see the messege which is 'tethering started with errors'
And I followed the this guide
(highonandroid.com/android-apps/how-to-wifi-tether-any-rooted-android-smartphone-or-tablet-universal-guide)
Anyone know about this issue?

Heres my solution I did download https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...errouter&hl=en its called wifi tether router by Fabio Grasso costs $2 well worth it!! heres the settings for the Sprint Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 you need to be rooted and have ur wifi turned on before you Enable Wifi Router.
Config Settings for Sprint Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 SM-T217S :
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk or open (your choice)
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
ApType master
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
hope this helps everyone since it took me a few tries with settings and a few apps to figure which one worked.

It sounds like the exploit went through the wifi not really shocking with KNOX. THE ONLY OTHER 4 letter word that should get people slapped. Lol

[Q] Wifi tethering problem on gt-n7100

Hello... i have a question regarding wifi hotspot/tethering with samsung note2 gt-n7100..i try to set up my phone as a wifi hotspot..the other device can detect the wifi and connect but the problem is the device can't use it for internet browsing..it just connected to my device but when try to browse to google it stuck. could anyone clarify the exact method to do this trick? or can u suggest any third party app that are fully working with note2 for this purpose? i tried with wifi tether for root user but no luck.. my device is rooted with cfroot and running latest alj3 stock rom...tq
Same here with Note I
It is connected, but no Internet access, even tough the internet is working inside of Note.
This happens mostly, but sometimes it works. There is no firewall,no different settings on receiving side.
Actually, right now it is working... but how long?
same problem. please help
Check your Note's APN settings for any proxies. A proxy can cause that.

Samsung Galaxy Note II SGH-T889 T-Mobile: WiFi Tether WORKS!!!

First off, I had to browse over MANY different forums to make this phone to WiFi tether.
EDIT: Mar-14-2013; The edits are to simplify the instructions. Also, after repeatedly rdoing my phone, I know it works, every time.
1) Root your phone.
If it's already rooted, skip this step. There's a lot of options out there. Use whatever method you like. Just for reference, I used (Option 2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955423
How to video
2) Grant superuser access to apps
Fom this point forward, grant superuser access to all request (From the apps below)
3) Download "WiFi Tether for Root Users"
DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT FROM GOOGLE PLAY!!! (If you do, it will NOT work)
Download the app, straight from the project's page
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_3-pre2.apk&can=2&q=
For your reference:
Project's home page: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
4) Open and configure "WiFi Tether for Root Users"
Select Menu (From your phone's physical lower bottom corner)
Choose Settings
Once in settings, make these changes:
[*][Change Device-Profile] --> Select "Samsung Galaxy S3" [If you skip this step, it won't work]
[*][Change Setup Method] --> Select "Netd-Ndc (master)"
[*][Send Netd Max Client Cmd] --> Check the box
[*]If you want to add a password: [Enable Wi-Fi-Encription] --> Check the box
[*]If you want to personalize your SSID: [Change SSID] --> Rename it to your preference
DONE
FYI: Depending on your plan and carrier, if it doesn't work it's mostly due to the plan/carrier limitations. I say this because I factory reseted my phone over 10 times, to test the instructions. It WORKED EVERY TIME.
PS. I am a newbie, so I wont be able to answer technical questions. This is what worked on my SGH-T889 phone.
I've got the same phone as you. Rooted with exynos abuse. Followed directions, installed apps and allowed acces but the se nd max clients thing doesn't appear on the app you gave me. I started the tether with the settings and got 0kb across the board.

As far as I know I thought T-Mobile can detect this form of tethering use and will start to warn you of the offense via text.
Super failed!!!!!!!!

anyone get this to work properly?
Nope. Doesn't work. I tried lots of settings and none of them worked. I wonder if it's hosting WiFi in Wireless G or Wireless N. 20mhz or 40mhz? 2.4gHz or 5gHz?
My laptop I tried using to connect to it is the old Wirless 802.11g with 2.4ghz support only, but I also couldn't see it with my own Wireless N router survey using all frequencies.
Conflusion: Doesn't work, actually. Post video evidence for the skeptics.
I am currently looking for a way to fix this issue. I am really good with getting Wifi-Tether to work. And i have done it for multiple devices that carriers don't allow it.
More progress to come...
It workes

Anyone have this working on SGH-T889 (one of the reasons I was going to root) or will T-Mobile still block it? (would prepaid make a difference)?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113053 - Thnx
I read in the TMO SGS3 forum that before you run the tether u should run Hotspot Shield VPN app from the market and you shouldnt have any problems...its worth a try
i use Trevee mod and it works fine
shouldn't make a difference I'm prepaid too. this was reposted from another post! WTF!

Can't you just use any of those 3rd party Wifi Tether apps on the Play store to get some form of tethering working?
Will this work if I just rooted with exynos exploit?
Also, what exactly is tethering?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=android.tether (I use mod version linked above)
This program enables wifi AND bluetooth-tethering (PAN) for "rooted" handsets.
Clients (your laptop for example) can connect via wifi or bluetooth and get access to the internet using the mobile connection (4G, 3G, 2G) or (in case you are using bluetooth) the wifi connection which is established by the handset.
Wifi-tethering creates a so called adhoc (peer-to-peer) network on most devices. Infrastructure-mode is suppported for some devices – including the HTC Evo for instance.
** FEATURES **
-) Access-control feature. Allow/deny clients to use your mobile-data connection.
-) Wifi-Encrytion. 128-bit WEP in general. WPA/WPA2 on supported devices.
-) Reduce wifi-transmit power (on supported devices)
-) Settings for wifi-ssid, wifi-channel, „lan“-network and more.
This application requires a "rooted"-device and a (custom-) kernel which supports netfilter (iptables)!
** PREREQUISITE **
1) Root
2) Netfilter-enabled kernel
For more information visit our developer-site on google-code:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Use this application at your own risk. It is possible that use of this program may violate your carrier's Terms of Service."
I fixed the problem.

[Q] CM10.1(nightly) on G S3(Sprint) - Wifi Tether Failing

Been roaming around all the forums and couldnt find the answer to this.
I have a Galaxy S3(Sprint L710) with Cyanogenmod 10.1 (nightly)
Trying to get Wifi Tethering working.
*Native CM10 Tethering does send signal and allows to connect, but no internet. Tried all variants: Open, WPA1, WPA2.
*Wifi Tether for Root Users (the one from Play Store). As it starts up the Tether, it loads up with the "Starting AP" and "Configuring AP" failing to start. Everything else loads up fine. Tried all variants: Profiles Auto, Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) and (wlan1), Galaxy s3, Galaxy S2, Nexus. Also Wifi-driver reload and routing fix enabled
*Downloaded the TrevE Mod version of Wifi Tether from the site. Same results. Same variants with addition to trying : Fallback Tether, Send NetD Max Client Cmd, and wifi-driver reload 2.
Anyone know of a working wifi tethering for cm10.1 on GS3? Or at least a work around with the "AP fail" problem im getting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Maybe try this

[Q] T-Mobile Note 3 Hotspot and Wifi Rooted Phone Mod or Solution

I have a rooted SM-N900T Note 3 on T-Mobile (using KingoApp and despite worries online regarding privacy issues installed and works fine and not worried). With my Note 2 I rooted and downloaded WifFi Tether app and got my hotspot working fine. Well...not so easy with Note 3. Can anyone tell me how we can get the hotspot free working on the T-Mobile version of the Note 3? Maybe a Mod or something ,anything, would be appreciated. And I used about 60 gigs before and never was flagged by T-Mobile or "throttled", but can anyone tell me if I should be concerned and something I can do to mask that usage? I am way more concerned with just getting it working as my plan limits me to 2.5 gigs without making a complete change on my plan and everyone on it.
This is my first post and I love XDA!
Im interested also!!!

Try this mod, it was formally known as the TREV_E wifi teathering mod. I had it working (but then changed roms and just haven't set it up again) and it seems like is doesn't run up your data as fast as the T MO hot spot. I had to change some settings on the app but I can re-install it and walk ya guys through it if it doesn't work out of the box for you.
Doesn't work out the box if you can inform us of your settings that would be great

Yes the settings would be great. Also, can anyone tell me if I should be concerned and something I can do to mask that usage, like a VPN? Why would you need a VPN? Thanks for any help. Would be awesome to find a solution for free hotspot on the T-Mobile note 3.

Ok here are the settings that are working for me
Change device profile to s4
Check send netd max client cmd box
Check No Tethering interface cmd box
Check wifi driver reload box
Check keep alive connection check
And that's it, you should see a wireless connection called Android Tether 2 in wireless connections.

I dowloaded and opened with win zip on my phone. I don't even have the following options:
*Check send netd max client cmd box
*Check No Tethering interface cmd box
*Check wifi driver reload box
I did check keep alive connection check though.

So did it worked for you just checking the keep alive option? If not download it on your computer then move the apk to your phone external sd card via phone hooked up to your computer.
Still not working
I've tried the trev_e mod with the settings listed and it doesn't show up as an available network. Any new techniques or updates? I'm desperate. I need more that 2.5GB.
Hey it work try this setting
change device profile to galaxy s3
change set up method to netd-ndc(master)
send netd max client cmd checked
send no tether-interface.. checked
wifi-driver reload 2 checked
keep alive... checked
routing fix checked
done work for me hope it work for you too

[Q] Has anyone got FoxFi hotspot running on AT&T Note 2 after 4.3 update?

I see various devices on various carriers have had problems with the wifi hotspot on FoxFi after the 4.3 OTA update, and while some people have been able to get around the problem, I don't see that anyone has with the AT&T Note 2.
I've tried the trick of pressing the home button when the dialog box pops up saying "Mobile hotspot is unavailable ... To enable mobile hotspot on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611" and then opening FoxFi again. FoxFi shows the hotspot is active, but no device can see it.
I actually had PDANet installed (fully paid), and it showed that the FoxFi component was version 2.10. I uninstalled PDANet and reinstalled version 2.13.1 of FoxFi (not sure what the difference is between the PDANet and FoxFi versions of the app). Same problem.
The only other possible solution I've run across involved the Note 3 on Verizon -- accepting a new VPN certificate or forcing FoxFi to offer a new one up by getting rid of the existing one. But FoxFi has never offered me a certificate, and I don't see any old one (or any for that matter) in Settings > Security > Trusted Credentials > User.
Has anyone whose Note 2 is not rooted been able to get FoxFi functioning after updating to 4.3?
Alrighty! The thus far deafening silence leads inexorably to this query then: does anyone have FoxFi running on a rooted AT&T Note 2 and is also paired with a Galaxy Gear?
I opted for stock OTA 4.3 with my Note 2 primarily because of the Gear, but the FoxFi problem on 4.3 has proven to be a double-whammy -- not only have I lost the hotspot after taking 4.3 OTA, but I also can no longer Bluetooth tether -- which means I can't get a direct Internet connection to the Gear (and do all those things that the limited, stock Gear connection to one's phone cannot do).
Somebody... anybody? I'm at an airport right now using the abominable Boingo $5 for 24 hours of 2.8 Mbps d/l speed service on my tab. The hotel I stayed at had its wifi go down for 2 hours yesterday afternoon. I would root and find a way, but I don't want to have to mess (read: spend time) with the can of worms that would open with pairing my Galaxy Gear....

Most custom ROMs have it built it.
I don't know about cocheci, but as I indicated above, I'd need a custom ROM that also works with the Gear without problem. From what I've gleaned from its thread, the Sky Note Air 4.3 ROM may well fit that bill. I just have to find an empty space in my schedule for the potential time sink. (Got a wife and young kids and a more than full time job, so long gone are the days when I could spend all night dikking around with tech toys.)

Sky note is an awesome ROM. Latest version is G2 I believe. It also comes with out the NOTE 3 stuff in the vanilla flavor. Very lickable. I mean likable.
Not much dikking required.
