Cons.... It's made by LG, Software by LG, can't take the battery out, no memory card slot, it's made by LG.

Cute novelty but doesn't seem like something that could be used as a selling point for most. I mean, how many times do you watch YouTube while writing an email?
Definitely neat feature..but unless he needs $100 I wouldn't recommend swap..oh yeah and its a lg..

This was a decision for me as well. Sdcard and battery killed it for me. I get great battery life with the s3 yet am still getting more batteries. I gsme or 2 can really empty a battery.
Sd, I look at it like this. 2 years ago I got an 8gb card. Never thought I would fill it up as I had hardly filled the 4gb before it. Now I have a 16 card along with my internal and they're starting to fill. Few games and backups will take a ton of space.

In all honesty, people were saying this about Samsung say, 2 years ago. If LG chooses to support their customers, then they would be better.

I'd say do it, you will never know whats wrong with a phone unless you try it. and at the end of the day you can just post the phone on craigslist and put trade for an s3 or note 2. can always go back. I'm actually looking for the same phone as you are offered.

Boot loader unlock is in the works.. Not sure on progress, but theres a few XDA devs working on this for the Optimus G. Specs aren't bad. But biggest turn off as mentioned is difficult to remove battery (3 screws on back plate, 2 on battery.. PITA to remove) and no SD expansion slot. I use my SD quite a bit due to flashing roms and things like that, so it's a deal breaker on this end.
Phone seems interesting. Quad core s4 right. I know its an lg. But let's not all forget the epic 4g when it was an Samsung and there was no support

I think with LG making the newest Nexus device this phone will get good support for updates considering its pretty much the same phone. Samsung used to be horrible with updates before the Galaxy Nexus so hopefully this helps LG along their way also. Seems like a great phone I wouldn't think you would be disappointed with a S3 or the Optimus G.

I'm glad your LG rep is actually worth a darn. Ours always came around and talked up the LG products but never knew much about them. We got some laughs when he told us Apple stole the iPhone design from LG. And honestly, they might have. But this guy was 1000% LG is better than everything, regardless of what it was.
Never gave us any insight on oncoming updates or new releases or anything, but he'll argue with you til you're blue in the face if you tell him a Samsung TV is better than an LG for any reason given.
Good news? You mean great news. But I am betting 3-4 weeks. I really want to be proved wrong. Jb update means new stuff to not be bored for a few weeks. Then it mean jb source and new stuff to not be bored for a long time. This phone could beat my 6 month record for a phone!

has anyone actually seen jelly bean running on an Optimus G yet? I know it's been released in South Korea, but I've been trying to find a changelog or something that actually shows the new features. I've been checking youtube everyday to see if there are videos of the new software, but nothing yet... which seems weird to me
does anyone have a changelog or even a video of the official jelly bean update running on an Optimus G?

It doesn't show a lot, but some of the features there look pretty slick. I liked the translate feature from the Camera, that looks pretty awesome.
EDIT: Do you think that this is due to the Optimus G Pro announcement? The two phones seem very similar and it makes sense that rolling out the one device with JB at the same time that they are updating the other is logical and fairly easy, right? Or am I stuipd? (see what I did there?)
Yeah that makes sense actually. I think the specs are relatively the same for both devices (obviously Pro is a bit faster and powerful, but I think besides the bump in clock speed, everything else is the same), and even then, I've heard the phones are the same but the Pro is just overclocked with the same processor. Here's an excerpt from the Engadget article when the Pro was announced:
There's now a quicker, 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, a heftier 3,000mAh battery and Jelly Bean (albeit Android 4.1, not 4.2) out of the box. Other elements are familiar carryovers, such as the 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, 32GB of built-in storage, a microSDXC slot and LTE
Click to collapse
So looks like the same chip, so my guess would be that it's just overclocked, so hopefully the Jelly Bean update will come soon. I think the Pro is set to release in April...hope they don't keep us waiting that long
http://androidos.in/2013/01/lg-optimus-g-worldwide-roll-out-begins-with-jelly-bean-on-board/
Looks like this might have something to do with it as well. The standard OG is rolling out to 50 countries with JB pre-loaded.

I see these same things about bad updates on every phone I've ever owned. When I had the thunderbolt everyone complained about htc. Then I had the droid charge and everyone complained about Samsung. The way I see it at this point is I don't buy a phone unless its good enough to begin with because you can't count on updates unless you buy nexus. Now every update I get is just a cool bonus. I love my optimus g though and I'm sure the devs here are going to do great things.

LG Optimus F7 = LG LTE III
I have ordered one from Chinese dealer. It will arrive in a few days.
The design seems very nice and even better than Optimus G. For one it just costs about 350 USD.
And also it includes a 2540mah battery, True HD IPS mon, MSM8960, 2G ram.
All reviews I saw show positive feedbacks. I suggest those who like the above feature should try.
I've been trying to find a store that sells optimus f5 ever since it was "released" in France, but I haven't been able to find a single store (in EU) that has this phone in stock. Has anyone actually seen this phone in the wild, available to general public?
I'd really love to get this phone because I absolutely detest huge screens of current "flagship phones", but sadly I can't fine one to buy.

official optimus f5 is in store in Hong Kong. it is nice but the screen is really not as good as the f7's true HD IPS. i don't get it there should be normally many dealers from china who would ship these phone to europe and us. maybe it's all the high tax making it not available in some areas.

I think If it will be ported display would not go to sleep ever and battery of G Pro will drain very quick.
I definitely will sell G Pro and buy G2, G Pro is outdated compared to G2, bud it has bigger 5,5" screen, the only one reason to keep G Pro. Everything else is already noncomparable
G pro still exceeds in MMC & removal battery dept.
Comparison :
Screen Same :
Ram : Same.
Processor : Not a huge difference in practical situation - no temptation to change.
Volume key placement : Verrrrrrrrryyyyy Odd , Will wait to see in hands before I can give any words on it.
camera : Improved with OIS & 60 FPS. Niceee.
New themes :------ We will get It.
Touch wake screen : -----Nice but battery eater.
Flip Style window cover: we will get it for sure.
Upgrade 4.2.2: We will get it , May be 6 months later.
Last few software features : Porting can be done easily. Just waiting for someone to post rom Image Now.

in my point of view g pro is still the best ever phone lg made so far...
Google Experience
The pricing and feature set of the OG Pro really is incredible, so much so that it even maintains competitiveness with future phones like the G2. The only reason I haven't replaced my N7000 with one is because of the rumors that there may be a G2-based Nexus 5.
My main reason for switching phones will be to get better dev/AOSP support, and the only reason I don't already have a Nexus phone is Google hasn't made one with a huge screen. The OG Pro is amazing, but the dev support right now is almost nonexistent.
It really is crazy that this phone isn't far more popular.
Well if the FCC news is accurate, other carriers are about to get the G Pro. So maybe then there will be more clientele in terms of a community.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
That's always the curse of carrier exclusive phones, it limits popularity & therefore limits dev support. But I think we'll start seeing development pick up.

In LG's defense, when KitKat released in November, some variant's of the m7(HTC One) were still on 4.1.2. LG would have been stupid to update 4.3, it would have been a flagrant waste of money. LG knew in August of the existence of Kitkat(because PDK, and Nexus 5), so they just focused on delivering KitKat, and skipping 4.3. Hell, the Note 10.1 is skipping 4.2 AND 4.3, and going straight to KitKat.

I would have but at the time couldnt shell out the cash for the 32gb. 16 just isnt enough for me and honestly 32 sometimes becomes pretty close to cutting it.

If I have root and have uninstalled a few system apps, can I take the OTA when it comes out?

from what i am seeing and hearing, No. you will have to .tot back to stock in order to take ota. or if those apps were backed up in titanium you may be able to restore them and take ota. Not sure on the last one though.
I suspect part of wait for 4.4 is that Sprint put a lot of resources into the 4.2 Spark Update when they would have been otherwise testing KK, other carriers were able to get more QA time on the new release and Sprint is playing catchup. (Personally, I wish they'd waited for KK to do Spark)

They better not. If they hold the update until May I'll pay the ETF and leave them on the spot.

Really, you cannot wait two months for the update. I'll be upset if everyone else has it before us, went through that with the EVO 3D ICS update.
