I know Kingo works for rooting, and people are using titanium backup prior to rooting now, but with the ROMS still locked, can we enable tethering?
Im waiting to see before I root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 SM-T217a on AT&T
Foxfi kind of works for tethering. But a little unstable. It does Bluetooth & WiFi.

There has to be a way to bypass the at&t all access crap to install and enable the native Samsung tethering app that supports bluetooth tethering as well as wi-fi tethering... If anyone can guide me I have a rooted unlocked s4 mini i9192 that tethering works great on with wi-fi and bluetooth using the tethering widget from the system widget widget.. I need to know which apk's to copy from the system folder, also my tab 3 is 4.2.2 rooted my s4 mini is 4.4.2 rooted just in case that makes any difference.
same* i have foxfi with key but my sm-t217a will turn off wifi after ten minuets saying not in use . i do not want this i want it to just stay on , i would like to leave it at home with wifi tether , always on . it seems at&t has removed the hotspot settings options in this rolled android to try to force us to use their crap. foxfi works great but i want to leave it unadministered while im away so i can remote back in. any ideas ?
*EDIT* so i had a note 3 and did a mod a while ago to add mobile hotspot to the notifications bar, it worked on my sm-t217a , then long pressing got me to the menu in settings for mobile hot spot which had been hidden , however its pretty much nothing in there cept a check box for usb tethering and a help , which doesnt do anything. SO i guess im dicking around in the wrong sqlite databases to unhide the main mobile hotspot menu in the main settings, but atleast now i have a form of access to the main android feature

Hey guys.
I'm a proud owner of a nice Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone.
I'm in the UK, pay monthly with 3 mobile.
I've rooted my phone, but the rom is still the stock one (I'm not exactly an expert and so I don't really want to mess around with it with my noobhands, the phone is costing me loads already).
After a lot of pain and sweat I managed to get USB tethering working through PDANet 3.50 with level 1 tether hiding.
Without ticking the hide option, or using any other app, or using the stock tether options, a second after connecting with my laptop (windows 7), I can't surf the internet, I immediately get redirected to 3's tether block site that tells me off, both on the laptop and the phone.
Question is simple, how to get around this? I mean get wifi tethering work without 3 knowing it.
I tried:
most wifi tethering apps on the market, rooted and nonrooted
the stock wifi tethering options, both wifi and bluetooth
changing the user string in my browser
I'm not on The One Plan, sadly, I would love to be, but I didn't know it's the only one with tethering allowed. And because I'm in a contract, I can't do anything either. 3's tethering addon is more than unreasonable - 5 pounds for 1GB. Ridiculous.
Thanks!
Dan
Edit1: Certain sites trigger the tether block and I have to restart the phone or turn on flight mode for some seconds few seconds after I visit them
bump
I found that flashing a custom rom and then activating wifi hot spot the tethering worked fine on my plan which was text 500 on 3 with 5 pound Internet add on which didn't allow tethering and got that blocking page before I did the custom rom I just used in the built in tethering no apps

I found a simple solution that worked for me on Orange UK, might work on other networks too. You will need to create a new APN and copy over all the settings from your default access point (you can't edit the default). Near the bottom of the APN settings there is an option "APN type" - mine was set to "default, supl". Add "dun" to the end of this list e.g. "default, supl, dun" and select this as the default access point.
I have a T-Mobile Note 3, still using the stock rom but I have rooted it. My question is there any way to wifi tether that does not "verify" tethering status with T-Mobile?
When starting up the built in hot-spot or FoxFi a popup comes up and tethering is verified with T-Mobile.
I know, I know, T-Mobile comes with X amount of free tethering. I have 2.5 gigs of free tethering and I never go over it. However, I'm going to Mexico for two weeks and T-Mobile has unlimited free international data but no tethering. I assume the "verify" step is going to stop me from tethering.
What rooted app will allow wifi tethering for the Note 3 that does no verification with T-Mobile? I've already tried 10 wifi tether apps from the market place and none of them work on the Note 3.
Bumping as I have a similar question. With Jellybean I just froze the provisioning apk and this worked. In Kitkat doing this causes force closes.
I have a Tasker task that turns on the hotspot when my radio connects to my phone via Bluetooth. This works fine if the screen is on, but the point is to have this happen automatically. If I have to take my phone out of my pocket and make sure the screen stays on, I might as well just turn on tethering manually. The task does run as I have verified that the other parts of the task run while the screen is off.
I'm pretty sure that all the info to address this is in a thread that I just bumped a minute or 5 ago.
I figured it out. At least for my situation. I have tethering and I wasn't trying to bypass any limits. I just wanted to enable tethering without the screen being on. I modified the framework-res APK to not call the provisioning APK and froze the Tethering*.apk files.
I tried to attach the file but it is not working. I will try again later.
framework-res.apk
I also added Bluetooth tethering option.
Can you give us the link daneurysm ? Thanks!

My phone is the Samsung galaxy S3 running on kitkat 4.4.2 I believe and is there any WiFi tethering methods that currently work out there? excluding Foxfi or Pdanet+ been using the USB tethering method for a while and I really need the tethering to work off of my device. Any and all help is MUCH appreciated!

After I installed a custom ROM all my hotspots are free. IDK on stock, though.

Depends on firmware version. For nd8 there is an nd8 hotspot mod that enables the stock hotspot. But also the app WiFi Tether Router in the play store works on stock rooted. Its a paid app (like 3 bucks I think) but its the only one that works.

if you want to use the stock hotspot/tether option with out having to pay for the subscription service on an UNLIMITED DATA PLAN (smh!)
open phone dialer
dial ##DATA (3282)
select edit
scroll to the bottom and select more
scroll to bottom select APN settings
then select the apn setting that has the green dot on the right
scroll down till u see APN TYPE
and add ,dun and select ok then wait for your network to reset if it doesn't then just cycle the airplane mode and it will reset the tower
then turn your hotspot onthrough the settings/hotspot menu....no need for 3rd party apps....
some ppl said they had to repeat them steps after power cycling there phone the setting reset to default and after doing a prl update
so dont power cycle or do any prl/system update till ur done tethering
i had no issues i added the special word and it stayed iand i update my prl daily as i drive all over the place
enjoy
p.s. DONT FORGET to put that pesky comma in there
On my Note 5 there was an app in the Verizon folder that was a wireless hotspot app.
I kept it on my home screen because I used it quite a bit.
It is gone from the folder now, and I do not see it in the play store.
Anyone know a way I can get the APK from another phone ?
The app is gone. The functionality is now baked into the OS.
Go into your settings. There should be an option for Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. You can set it up from there. There is also a toggle in the notification pull down to turn on and off.
Yea I saw that. I tried to install the apk I got from a couple of other phones but they were only updates. Is there a way to roll back all the updates so I can get the original apk?
Could I get the apk from someone who has a fresh install of an OS and not updated it yet??
Not gonna work man. Your on marshmallow
Quick settings in the pulldown bar has a hotspot toggle, works perfectly for ONE TOUCH hotspot on/off. If I sound excited it's because I used to be on AT&T and they oddly neutered their phones and took the hotspot toggle out of quick settings, and I couldn't find a hotspot toggle app which worked, I tried dozens of them. You had to actually go into settings, then into mobile hotspot, then click the hotspot, then toggle the on button, then click past the wifi will be turned off nag screen, then exit out of settings. So having one click toggle for hotspot is pretty awesome.
Could anyone confirm that this works regardless of the "Mobile Hotspot" feature code on your account? I'm thinking of buying the Note 7, and might avoid rooting it (at least for now) so I can keep Samsung Pay, but I need tethering to work...
I have an former-Alltel plan w/ unlimited data, which never worked with the baked-in "Mobile Hotspot" on my Samsung Note 3 without root+Xposed+XTether. (XTether caused the hotspot feature to avoid the "entitlement check" that usually occurred).

Do you guys not get a weird warning once FoxFi is installed?
After reading this thread I downloaded Foxfi, since hotspot is the only reason I've rooted my phones for years.
The app worked great, and I was able to use my PDANet serial number from 2010 (for my Windows Mobile Moto Q) so I didn't have to pay for it!

Yes, that's because FoxFi has to trick the system to turn on Tethering even if you don't have it in your plan.

I found out it was actually do to a user certificate it installs for the VPN, you can either move it manually to the system location or use a program like this to moved it automatically https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nutomic.zertman&hl=en
Hey everyone, can anyone with the Verizon Z Play test Foxfi to see if hotspot tether work, or if you know of any other way or app. I really want to pick this phone up but I really would like to be able to use hotspot. Thank you.

Correct, but what I'm asking is on Verizon one is required to pay for the hotspot feature and I am looking for a way around that....until root is available.

I dont know of anyway around that without root or an app... and I also dont know any wifi tethering apps that work without root. There might be an app, but i've never had to look.

OK thanks.
Foxfi and PDAnet work on devices that have no root, but I just haven't heard yet if they work on the Moto Z Play, as sometimes certain devices will not work. Example: HTC 10
You can tether via Bluetooth too. Maybe thats a work-around for being charged for wifi tethering?
