LIttle history first:
So I got this Kindle Fire from a friend of my wife. Wife used it for a little while and it was fine. My daughter's Kindle died, so we ordered a brand new one. So the wife got the new one, gave her old one to daughter and I got this one. I didn't like all of the stuff that was on it, so I decided to do a factory reset. That's where the fun starts. Mind you, there was never an issue with the charging (port not loose) or anything for that matter. So i do the reset and everything is going great. The screen said it was powering off to complete and it does. From that moment, this thing has not done ANYTHING since. I've plugged it in for days, held power buttons for days, everything I can think of. The button light does not even light at all. It is literally nothing more than a shiny paperweight. I've tried the usb boot shorting trick and it does nothing. Again, no response from the KF at all, whether plugged in or not. Any help is appreciated.
Was the Kindle rooted? How long has it been sitting? Is the battery dead? The USB shorting trick only works for Kindles that actually boot up to some extent. It's hard to say what's going on with your kindle, but to find out or do anything you'll need a factory cable. You can find them on Ebay, Amazon, and there's even a guy who sells them on this forum. Here's some info about factory cables http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392693. Unless you've got some kind of hardware issue there is no reason why you can't fix your Kindle.

Okay, so heres the thing. I got this kindle back in late July of this year, and shortly after had it rooted. I flashed a CM10 kernel (Alien Droid) and it was fine. A few weeks later I noticed that the charging Icon on the kindle wasn't displaying, but the light changed orange still, so I didn't worry about it.
Three weeks later I noticed that most of the time, not even the orange light would come on unless I held the charger in. I haven't dropped the kindle or damaged the charger in any way, but I thought it was the charger, So, I bought a brand new one and it worked for a day, then same issue.
Eventually, the kindle refused to charge completely, and leaving it plugged in for an entire day would only restore about 20% of battery life.
And here's where I bricked it. I booted into TWRP to transfer some data off of my kindle, and when I was finished I clicked reboot, but, I accidentally misclicked into fastboot mode. When the kindle restarted, it showed the kindle fire logo, with the "press power button to select bootmode" at the bottom, but then a second later it turned off. Then it turned back on, and repeated the process. This went on indefinitely until the kindle finally lost power completely.
This happened about three weeks ago, and the kindle's been plugged in to its charger ever since. The kindle won't turn on, and there's no charging light whatsoever.
I have indeed heard about shorting a circuit inside the kindle fire, and using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038
But, I have no idea how to do that for a kindle.
I really don't want to send request a new one, but I will if I absolutely have to.
This kindle is indeed on its warranty, but I don't mind voiding it.
Besides, I'm not quite sure where to request a new kindle anyway.
Please help!
-nevermind-
Ordered replacement Kindle.
But, help would still be nice, just incase this ever happens again, or anybody else has this issue.
Don't worry about voiding your warrantee it's already void there's no way you can hope that Amazon won't notice it's not stock. Really your best bet is getting a new battery at this point and I don't often say that but considering its really the only thing wrong with it besides the fact it's stuck in fastboot. I would think this approach is the lesser of to evils compared to possibly causing serious damage. It would be a good idea to replace your system when you install the new battery because all charging problems have been resolved with the latest builds.
Edit: very likely you will be paying for your replacement.
If it's a hardware failure, they probably won't notice that it's not the Stock ROM, since they won't be able to power it on
Clearly the technical know how and plenty of spare batteries is all they really need to determine the state of the device. You fool yourself if you think that Amazon doesn't verify thousands of replacement claims it's all about money.

Actually, the warranty doesn't state anything at all about the ROM. Amazon didn't even make their operating system. It's completely fine to replace the ROM. The warranty is responsible for their hardware, not software. How could they be responsible for an operating system they didn't make?
That's according to the support agent I talked to, since I asked him about it. (I said a 'friend' had the same problem with his kindle but had his kindle rooted). He said that he would be able to get a new one, because power failure issues are common problems with kindle fires.
It actually didn't get stuck in fastboot until a few weeks after it stopped charging. It had about 2% battery left before that happened. And, also, I did say that I don't care about voiding the warranty, but I'm not going to bother since I'm already able to get a replacement.
Yes, yes, I know, "there are already threads about this" but I have a KF2 with 10.4.6 and a red screen (Wall of Fire?) and I am wondering if the absolutely positively only way to resurrect this KF is with a fastboot/factory cable, and there is no way whatsoever of getting the computer to recognize the KF to fix it.
Factory cable is the only way.

Ah, OK. We talked to Amazon for a bit and they are just going to replace it. Thank you anyway though!

I really want to root this dang KF but every time I hook it up to any charger or cable it goes black and shuts down.... I have read all over the net the last few weeks and seems this isnt super common like the charging port problem... It works good when running on the battery. Anyone have any ideas before it gets used for target practice?
Oh and I am not a total newbie, but its been several years since I have been here and made a new user name.

First generation kindle fire? Are you using the correct cable? If both of these are true seems you have a kindle with a serious hardware issue. How do you manage to charge it? Best to avoid rooting this one till that issue has been remedied.

Try this when connected to charger long press power button for 1 min. then let go then press as if to simply power on the device. Sending a bootloader to this Kindle is extremely risky if it powers off during the send the bootloader can be broken. This is the second hardest brick to recover from the first being a dead battery . Chances are this device has been rooted before and that`s why it was pawned look for evidence of being opened maybe someone incorrectly applied the short trick to recover from a hard brick. Which might be the best way to go about rooting it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038 . Are you sure the backlight is not remaining on but just giving the appearance that it is off? The first gen. kindle fire will not charge without a running system.

I am not home right now, but will try your suggestion when I get home. I have never owned a kindle so I am not sure of how the start up progression is.. But when I plug it in the screen seems to go black ( in a dark room) and once I take it off the charger and push power button it brings up the "Kindle Fire" screen and it kind of pulses then goes to the unlock screen.. Its there suppose to be a charging indicator light? I dont see one when I plug it in

Ok I tried the 1 minute reset deal again, no joy.. I inspected the case and there is zero sings of tampering.. While I was out , I ran by my friends pawn shop and got another kindle charger.. He had another kindle he just gave me in case I needed parts... This new kindle wont boot on Press the power button and nothing shows up .. It shows orange charging light and green power light comes on briefly when power is pushed and then the green light shuts off after 3 seconds.. I am going to read the thread about firekit and shorting info.. Goal is to get the one that actutally boots repaired then might study up on the other one..
Just an update.. Dumb me , I said it was a 1st but it is indeed a 2nd gen... Sorry all for posting in the wrong forum.. But even with that said, it still shuts off the minute I connect a charging cable LOL.
2nd gen same issue...shuts down when connected to computer- computer won't recognize

Did you ever figure out how to solve issue? I have same problem. It used to work fine. I have another, identical, it works fine. All the sudden, one of the kindles 2nd gen HD started to act up. If I connect it to computer it gives me error message that it is a low powering device.. computer does not recognize anything was plugged in then kindle shuts down exact way as you described it. Tried reboot computer, kindle, long holding power button, connect while off then start up...you name it. (Charges up fine with wall plug in too... I fully charged it to make sure that is not the issue...all I keep seeing on net is reset...but that did not solve my issue.) So if you can share any wisdom it would be great!!!
Thanks!!!
Hi!
Before starting this thread and asking this, I read through the general Q & A for Kindle beginners, many of the forums and questions and through some that seem similar to what is happening to my Kindle but either I didn't understand the solution and I need to be guided or I didn't find one to help with my issue and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me.
I have a Kindle Fire, 1st generation. I changed my cracked screen 2 days ago. I put everything back, or so I thought, because I ended up with the ambient light small motherboard and 2 screws. After searching like crazy for the ambient light cable that was, assuming, connected to the small motherboard that then connects to the little adapter next to the battery I gave up because I could just not find it at all and just screwed the small motherboard back to where it was.
At first my kindle wouldn't even turn on and it was connected to an outlet, so I connected the charger to my laptop and saw a flick of life but then it went dark. I decided to connect the adapter to an outlet again and nothing happened. I switched out the USB cable to a BB USB cable and connected it to an outlet and it sprung to life. The "kindle fire" in orange and white started flashing bright, there was no dimming of the light, and then it would go dark and appear again. I thought maybe it was the battery that needed to be fully charged first before I did anything so I let it sit for 15 minutes. I then, (while looking for a solution online), pressed the power button for 60 seconds then waited 3 minutes and then again 60 seconds to see if it would stop that but it didn't do anything. I tried the 40 second technique and nothing. I left the Kindle connected to the charger overnight hoping that maybe this morning it would be all better but it is still the same: the "kindle fire" logo keeps just flashing over and over again.
I read in some forums that maybe I need to "root" it because it may be stuck in reboot and that I would need to download the KFU. I'm computer savvy and can figure it out mainly on my own, but feeling a bit insecure about going forth with it and really ruining the Kindle if I don't do it right.
Would I need to download the Kindle Fire Utility and replace the bootloader and get it back to factory settings? If so, can someone guide me through it? Or is there another step that I would need to take in order to stop this?
If I missed the answer for this in another thread, I do apologize and would greatly appreciate if you directed me to it.
Thank you, in advance!

How to flash twrp and firefirefire with a Fastboot cable

Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
So I found a brand new 2013 Nexus 7 at a swap meet a few days ago. An old lady's kids bought it for her and she never used it, so she sold it to me for $20! Best deal I've ever gotten, and everything works fine, except for one thing...
I think something is wrong with the usb port. It seems as if it is stuck in charging only mode.
At first I noticed that whenever I charged it, it would keep showing the charging battery icon in the status bar and say "Charging" on the lock screen for some time after I unplugged it. If that was it, I wouldn't mind, but when I plug it into my computer, it never appears under adb devices and never goes into debugging mode. It seems as if it is stuck in charging only mode.
I've checked everything on the computer side (my M8 connects just fine) and gone through developer options, so it must be the tablet. I do have an old Nexus 7 (same model) that broke, so I could scavenge some parts from it, but I wanted to see what some of you think might be wrong with it before opening it up.
Have you tried to flash a factory image? Or just factory reset it?
Factory reset was the first thing I did (a few times actually) , and I can't flash anything because it won't connect to my computer
Fixed
In case anyone was wondering (I doubt it) I finally got around to fixing this:
After searching around the internet, I noticed a lot of people's touchscreen would stop working after buying a replacement daughterboard (the usb port is soldered on this). I decided to switch out the motherboard and the daughterboard from my old nexus. Plus, my old nexus was 32gb, and the new one is 16gb, so more storage (yay).
The actual process of performing surgery on the nexuses (nexii?) was really easy, you just have to be careful to not crack the back cover, but if you do, oh well.
Put it all back together and... it works! Flashed the marshmallow factory image (MRA58K) and it feels brand new.
So there ya go. bye
