Viper4Android now officially supports KitKat with version 2.3.1.3
If you don't know what it is, it's a sound mod on steroids:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
Note: Do not even consider the Viper4Android app in the Play Store.
I thought I'd write up a quick and easy install guide. It used to be more complicated to install, having to choose the CPU etc. Now it's much more self configuring
I've never needed to do more than this. But in the OP of the Viper thread there are things about installing it as a system app, setting permissions, etc. But this has always worked for me (On Note II and 2012 N7)
But you might want to review the installation notes anyway
You must be rooted and have Busybox installed
Be sure you have unknown sources enabled in Settings/Security and I always uncheck verify sources but that's up to you.
Download Viper4Android - It's small 7mb (the downloads are right after the Last Update Log)
I have found the easiest way to install is to use Root Explorer, but the idea will be the same for any file manager.
In Root Explorer
Navigate to the folder where your download is
Long press Viper4Android_FX
Choose Extract All
The file will start extracting and will only take a few seconds
You will be prompted to 'Go to extracted' choose that option
Open the folder Viper4Android_FX by clicking on it
Click on the apk Viper4Android_4.x_(version you downloaded)
When prompted choose install
Follow the prompts
Then choose Done, or Open if you want to go straight to the Viper4 install routine
Open the Viper4 app in your app drawer and follow the prompts
Grant the app root access
When prompted to install/update the driver choose Yes
Choose the Audio Quality you want. I have always chosen Super Audio Quality so I can't comment on the others.
When prompted about needing a dual-core CPU choose OK
Press Ok when prompted to reboot your phone.
Reboot your phone
Launch Viper
Under the menu check driver status it should show the version and Status: Normal
If you enabled it already it will say Enabled: Yes
On the web site there are instruction to change these lines in build.prop - if you have them - I didn't have them
Ipa.decode=true to lpa.decode=false
tunnel.decode=true to tunnel.decode=false
lpa.use-stagefright=true to lpa.use-stagefright=false
Under the menu there is an option for the UI mode. It simple sets how many options you see. Personally I use Expert because it exposes more setting for Automatic Gain Control that I need to dial in what I like. But it exposes a lot of stuff I never use.
There is information in the Viper thread about the settings, some are not particularly clear, and other options for getting Viper working with the Apps you use. I've never had to do anything special to have it work with the Media apps I use which is Google Play, Pandora and Slacker and a few (free) music players.
How do you know if it's working? I always read you have to enable it in settings - sounds - sound effects, but I don't have that in cm11. I already deleted DSP, but how do I know my audio is being processed with Viper?

Set compability Mode from normal to compatible . And reboot. If you listen music on Apollo, you can go to settings and check Viper FX in equalizer.

Hello! I recently installed viper on my Galaxy, but am having the issue that its not affecting sound output. I disabled LPA (Low Power Audio) as recommended by the app, installed busybox, and installed the needed drivers. I proceeded to wildly adjust every parameter but noticed exactly no difference, which leads me to believe the app is not working properly. Could someone please throw me in the right direction?
P.S. My phone is rooted, I have Xposed and SuperSU working properly

Guide to change individual app dpi
You will need;
1 A root level file explorer like root explorer
2 A little patience
To perform the changes
So you need to find out if the app you want to change the dpi level for is either a system or data app, to do this open your file manager and look in system/app or data/app. You need to then long press the app you want and press rename. Then copy the app name by long pressing the text and press copy, dont copy any .apk or -1 at the end of the name.
Then navigate to system folder and look for build. prop/pad.prop. press the mount rw button then long press open in text editor. So now you need to remember where you found your chosen app, was it system or data? If system long press under then system header or if it was a data app look for the apps header. To paste your app name in the right place find a empty line, long press then paste. You need to add at the start of the line for your app pa.
Nearly there!
So next at the end you need to add .dd= and then your chosen dpi level.
So for example for apex, I have it as a system app and my line in pad.prop for apex looks like
pa.com.anddoes.launcher.dd=221
Then you need to press menu key, then save and exit. Restart your app and it should display how you want
FOR ALL ROM'S

most pointless thread
Hi all,
This may be a totally noob question and feel free to delete the thread if it's been answered before but here goes. I updated my S3 via Kies to the 4.3 update and all went well and seemed to be working ok. However the camera now has no shutter sounds. I know having it silenced is a good option but sometimes hearing it helps. I've tried changing volumes, rebooting, everything. The only answer I get from Samsung is to factory rest the phone. Would that help? Is there another way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please check your camera settings?
A factory reset probably won't fix it

Thanks for the replies. I checked all the settings and volumes and they all seem fine. Looks like it's time to root.

I checked and theres no option. I don't think the Sprint variant has this option. It would definitely make life a lot easier if it did though. Thanks for the reply.
Found this. Didn't test it myself (I'm running MOAR rom). Might work for you?
Cool - I done this and it works a treat!!
**EDIT: This post refers to a mod which activates an unused menu option to switch off the shutter sound. Other sounds in the camera app will still be present. Thought I'd clarify this in case of any confusion.
Just in case anyone else wants to do this (I think this would be the 'correct' method of applying this fix as opposed to removing the sound file or muting your phone!), then here is a little guide.
Root access required of course, and I used Root Explorer to do the following:
1. In Root Explorer, navigate to the following location:
/system/csc and look for a file called 'others.xml'.
2. Long-press on this file and select 'Open With', and then select 'Text Editor'.
3. Scroll all of the way to the end and look for the following:
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture>
4. Insert the following line just before the </FeatureSet> code.
5. Then pressing the 'Back' button will automatically save the file and back-up the original in the folder.
6. Restart your phone.
7. Now when you go into the camera, tap on the settings, so you get camera settings, video settings, and the general settings in a pop-up, press the settings icon/tab and scroll down and you can now select to toggle the sound on/off (second-last option).
Thanks to all above for guiding me to this little fix, it takes no time at all to apply. The camera sound was annoying me a bit and was surprised to see it wasn't a supplied function.
To revert, simply go back to the file you edited, delete it, then remove the '.bak' from the backed-up file.

And all credit to the original Dev. for the code for this mod, at this thread:

Hell yeah! Thank you.
Only issue I've run into is camera layout is a little janky. (Camera shutter button in middle of the screen)
edit: I'm an idiot and didn't know why I didn't try this myself but I'm also posting this message to help others.
Obviously this is due to DPI settings and perfectly correctable with the App Setting Xposed module and setting the camera app to ~550-575.

Separate issue now: music player and google play music do not work. Music PlayerPro works if DSP pack installed.
Samsung Theme Store
This is exactly what im looking for in a ROM. Thank you. However, i have purchased a lot of themes and would like to use them. Is there any patches/mods/apks etc that you have to get the theme store back working on this ROM? Right now the app is removed and force closes settings when clicked on.

Thank you. Sorry to be a pain..i tried googling it to find it but i could only find one that would not install for me. Do you happen to have it so i could install it?
So i checked it over and Samsung Billing is already in this ROM. What isnt is ThemeCenter and ThemeStore. I added those both to System/priv-app and now tje Theme Store does not crash. However, when trying to start using the store, an error pops up as follows, "The device ID is more then 20 bytes". TW SLIM v1.3 etc...so im guessing the device ID used in creating the ROM is too large. Is there a simple way to edit the device ID in build prop to make it work without issue?

After just renaming to the actual device ID of SM-G928P. I was able to use the theme store with no issues. So anyone out there also wanting to use theme store with this rom, you need both ThemeStore_3xh.apk and ThemeCenter.apk as well as to change the device ID in system/build.prop
Thread closed as it will not be supported going forward.
I don't see a thread like this in here like other devices usually do, so let's share our setups. If you're running xposed list what you're using and what it does! Should be good info to get things away from the stock ugly ui.
My xposed list is as follows:
Audio privacy - for removing album art on lockscreen
Clean lockscreen - removes user icon, emergency call button, letters and backspqce from pin lock
Enable notification ticker on lollipop - self explanatory
Gravity box LP - long press back to kill, media controls, hide am/PM
Hide carrier label v2 - removes carrier label from lockscreen
Hide emergency button - clean lockscreen leaves the space clickable, this stops that
Lockscreen widgets LP - self explanatory, very needed!
Lockscreen Disabler - disables pin lock so I can unlock with fingerprint or swipe, relocks pin after idle
Reboot without su - enable xposed reboot
Return my enter key - replaces smiley on hangouts with enter key
Snapprefs - if you don't know what this is you've never rooted before
Spotify skip - unlimited skips, track seeking, peek, everything you want
Xperia camera enhancements - unbind album app to quickpic
Xperia/aosp navbar buttons - use this for menu key and shrinking navbar styling
Xperia xposed LP - power menu theming!
Xstana - status bar theming
YouTube ad away - essential
YouTube background playback - listen to playlists with screen off
A lot of those are to get features back that lollipop took away, which hasn't been easy to do. I am also using nova prime, Materis icon pack, lollipop minimal theme, team battery bar, and Modded Google keyboard with emojione emojis. A few system tweaks I'm using are the sound boost mod, torch LED upgrade, and a really nice hosts file. And in the spirit of theming I run Google maps 6.9.0, eBay 3.0.0.19, and quickpic 4.5.2 because their redesigned apps all have sucked.
I'm curious to see what else y'all have tried as I'm still not happy with a few things and not being able to change them. Hopefully we can get cyanogenmod to the z5c soon.

I'm on .200 with zombie kernal and v80 xposed. I forgot who helped me on here but I couldn't get xposed to work on this phone for weeks. The only combination that's works to my knowledge is zombie kernel (doesn't support twrp so you have to hot boot it to use it..) Wipe dalvic and cache, flash xposed, reboot and it'll compile all 600+ apps. This is where mine kept messing up the phone kepg overheating and shutting off at around 190 degrees. It took a few tries to get it not to crash and all has been good so far. You can't wipe dalvic again without going into boot loop, keep the uninstall zip handy and just redo the framework if you ever need to.
Goddamn it, I've tried everything except trying another kernel. Thanks for the info!

Hello everyone,
I'm new to rooting and I could use some guidance regarding how to prevent apps from detecting that my device is rooted. I have a Samsung device and I've already tried using Island by following this guide here. However, that did not seem to do the trick.
Additionally, I've explored Magisk's built-in Deny List feature, but it hasn't solved the issue for me.
I am based in Singapore and the app in question is Singpass. I have read comments from other forums such as this and this but am not sure if the methods still work. If they do, could anyone help me with a step-by-step guide? Also, would this method work for any and every app?
I've also heard about Magisk Alpha, but I'm not sure how to get started with it. If anyone could provide some instructions or point me towards a reliable guide, I would greatly appreciate it. However, I must admit that I'm not very familiar with technical jargon, so I hope the guide isn't too complex.
I need this app to function as I need to sign in to government apps for official reasons in late June.
You can't hide the fact Android is got rooted, if this is true. It's easy for every app, so also payment / banking apps, to detect whether Android is got rooted or not.
