Hi everyone, I've been AWOL for a while on Jelly Bean ROMs and my question is if there is any Jelly Bean ROM or mod out there that will restore 3D camera function back on the Xperia S. I've done lots of searches but the results thrown out are a little bit confusing to me (I'm not sure if they refer to graphics or camera functions), so I'd be really grateful if someone could inform me. Thanks in advance~!
no, not yet unfortunately...
anyway, for now as a workaround i'm using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elseways.android.a3dish
Is not as good as the sony app, but if you practice enough you can get an acceptable 3d depth effect....
you can also experiment with --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siulun.Camera3D
but i doesn't works for me
Lets hope devs of this app port it to android--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXF1qRFCbII

Hi peeps, i am the proud new owner of a rooted Desire (lucky me) and i think i know which ROM i would like to try.Its gonna be one of the sense HD ones i think (these are hacked from the Desire Z and HD i take it).But im not sure if it will do what i want. The only one i have found which i think i can use says no camera yet, is this the case or has a stable one with all the trimmings been finished.Dont wish to sound too dumb but there are that many its pretty hard to know what you should be looking for.Any helps good help, thanx in advance.
Desire Z and HD Roms dont have a camera yet, its still under development, there is a thread under the development section adressing this issue if you would like to know more as to why the camera isnt working as of yet ... but its only a matter of time. Both the z and hd roms are stable and work well (big up to the developers!) its only the camera that doesnt work yet and that doesnt really bother me
These two roms are very similar, some differences:
1. Music player doesnt rotate in z
2. rosie doesnt rotate in hd
3. no srs etc in z (not that i really noticed the difference)
If you cant go without a camera i would suggest leedroid or auraxtsense ... also sense roms.
But go and play around, try different roms until you find one that you really like!
In most of the custom rom threads, dev's do not like being asked about why the camera doesn't work. But I can't seem to find the answer so i'm posting it here.
What exactly is the problem with ics and camera's? why are there so much difficulties in enabling the camera in ics?

Because ics is a new android base and they are working as hard as they can to get it working. They don't want to hear about it not only because its in the list of what doesn't work and don't want bug reports, they also have put in an incredible amount of work and so many people put pressure on them about the camera as it is. Developing roms and kernels without a working base to start with is incredibly painstaking and is not easy. It's amazing they have gotten as far as they have with it since ace devices have no official ics base to work with. Just be patient. It will all get worked out eventually.
And don't forget that camera is not the most important in a phone
So they're going step by step... this is a very good way to proceed.
Because camera is for cam whores jk

The guys at the Desire development managed to get the camera working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
It's a rough hack and not very stable yet but works!
Also, the current ICS roms are running 2.6.x kernels, I'm positive it has something to do with that. Wonder if we'll even see 3.x on the DHD! Hope so!
Don't understand me wrong. I have great appreciation for the work that dev's do. Everyday I enjoy the fruits of the custom rom that I have loaded onto my device.
It was just that the camera in ics seems to be a problem for many custom rom developers and I assumed that it was something more specific to the developements with ics.

The guy was simply asking for info. He just wanted to know if anyone has an idea why the cam is a commom obstacle for different devs.. He wasn't underestimating the developers' work(who during my 5 years with xda, has proven to be the Gods of mobile modding!)
No harm in asking, right?

The kernel has changed and that requires new libaries to allow the camera to interact with it, these are the properiatary blobs that only HTC can officialy provide, now it should be possible when one of the DHD sister phones i.e Desire Z are provided with an official build that the camera can be reverse engineered, but if not it's gonna be a matter of trial and error to get any knid of functionality.
BTW If anyone with a better than my sketchy understanding wants to butt in and correct me please feel free
BTW BTW Lordclockan has a build with partialy working camera up and running
I agree with you. All the best to the devs ! Good luck !
Hi guys,
I ventured into the world of custom ROMs and whatnot for the first time the other day, and successfully installed CM9 on my One X. I'm finding the stock-ish experience far more enjoyable and responsive, and have managed to find excellent replacement apps for all the stuff HTC bundled with the device.
That is, apart from the camera app. I've tried numerous alternatives (Camera360, Camera Zoom FX, Pudding Camera, lgCamera, and more) in addition to the stock Google app and I think HTC's offering vastly outshines them all — particularly with their implementation of both camera and camcorder capturing from the same UI (ie: two buttons on the same page).
I'd love to bring that app back onto my CM9 One X, but is it possible? Is there somewhere I can download it, and will it work without Sense?
Hope someone can advise as I do tend to take a lot of shots and the alternatives are frustrating me.
Sorry you need the sense framework for it to work.

^^ Definitely won't work on Sense-less ROMs. BTW, curious if you found a comparable replacement for the HTC "Car" app/dashboard? That and the camera are the two items holding me to Sense ROMs.
That's a shame. I guess I'll stick with the default camera app for now, as Google's at least seems to be more responsive and starts up faster than any I've downloaded. It's a little ugly and the current implementation in CM9 is a bit ropey (volume of shutter is always on maximum), but at least it works well — if Jelly Bean eventually improves it a bit even better. Would welcome any recommendations to try out though.
As for the GPS question, as I don't drive it's not an app I've sought a replacement for, sorry.
For what it's worth, if you haven't already, you may want to give the eXoDized Revolution ROM [here] a try (by JDR0iD, not me!). It's an AOKP with just enough Sense retained to support the HTC camera! In fact, I was able to add back in enough to support the HTC Car app I was asking about as well. So I'm very happy with this, as it gives the look/feel/smoothness of an AOSP but without sacrificing some stock apps we want . Just a suggestion if you are interested.
So after upgrading my stock GNex to 4.2 I found that the performance was lacking, it felt choppy and slow at times, I though these issues would be fixed by a different ROM/Kernel and although it got a bit better I still don't have the amazing performance on my phone that 4.1 gave me.
I have decided to go back to 4.1.2 but I do like some of the features that 4.2 provided me and I want to ask you guys if there is a way (also it would be great if you could direct me to it if there is) to have these features on 4.1.2, the ones I'm more interested in are the following:
Photo Sphere camera
Gesture Typing
Quick Settings Menu
The first two especially.
Also any advise of a 4.1.2 ROM I should try? I was thinking in going stock but if you guys know of a great performance/battery life ROM/Kernel out there I would appreciate suggestions. I started getting into ROMs/Kernels, etc, until 4.2 hit so I don't know much about 4.1 ROMs.
Thanks.

I think other than the quick settings mod, rest you can get in 4.1.2 as well. Look over the forums, try a bit tweaking, you might come up with it. the Photosphere camera just has a few additional libraries and a changed Gallery app. I can't recall, but i think i saw a flashable zip for that.
as far as Gesture is concerned, yu'll have to change a keyboard. Look for "swift key".
Try BlackBean AOKP for 4.1.2. It was awesome, but before that, I would suggest yu give a try to Liquid Smooth 4.2.1. yu might change yur mind.
I have been running CM7 for a while and I am fairly happy with it. I seem to like the basic function over what I have see on other people's phones with either ICS or JB. So I want to ask what advantages or better functions would make me want to upgrade? Maybe better device support? I do notice that my wifi drops off a lot but I also have friend's with the SIII stock and they have the same issue.

>Better Contacts app
>Chrome syncing
>Built-in photo editor

JB
>EVEN BETTER APP SUPPORT!!!
>BUTTERY SMOOTHNESS
>GOOGLE Now
>Expandable notifications
>Photosphere
>Gesture keyboard
>Lock screen widgets
These are just the main bullet points IMO there is no reason to stick with an old outdated OS. I used CM7 until ICS came out officially for our device. CM7 is based off GB which first came out in 2010! If you're wary of custom roms at least update officially and enjoy the most of android.
If your into flashing roms there are many stable ones running Google Now on ICS 4.0.4 if you are just looking for updated google apps. JB isn't officially out for out phones yet so the devs have done a good job of porting roms so we can use JB if you want to. I would check the threads on JB roms and decide which is best for you.
Thanks for help
Thanks for the insight. I am still on the fence but it is not like I can't revert after playing a bit, isn't that was a nand backup is for?

yeah. just make a backup and play around. If you are on cm7 i recommend upgrading to cm10.1, it only gets better.
