Status 7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi guys!
I'm new to this forum and to anything regarding android, and I also feel like an idiot because I recklessly decided to try to update my nexus 7 2013 WiFi to 4.4 by myself.
I'll be brief: I don't know how, I deleted android from my tablet and now when I turn it on I automatically get to TWRP.
If I plug the tablet in to my Macbook (yes, I'm cursing my own name for not having any windows computer to use right now), nothing happens. However, not even windows computers detect it - or, to be more precise, they do detect it but I don't have access to its memory.
I've been trying to re-install android using the sideload command, but each time I get this 'status 7' error, no matter what version of android i try to install.
I'm beginning to be really desperate, can anybody help me out with this?
Thank you!

I can't really help you because it's been a long time since I needed to do any troubleshooting.
But more detail about exactly what you doing trying to side load and what happens might be helpful to others. While there use is controversial, you could try using Wugs toolkit.

Go into fastboot mode and use these: hxxp://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images (can't post direct links, don't have 10 posts yet)

Did you try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529803
I didn't read the whole thread but it seems to have helped others.

Drag and drop?

Will the CWM file for CRT listed here work on OsiMood 2.01.30?
That's just minor. The problem is that when I had the Rogers ROM I was able to drag and drop files onto my phone, or "dl", but now, it doesn't pop up that screen that says "open to view files"
Windows 7 32-bit.
What is your level of computer experience? Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering how much you have worked with a PC and/or android phone?
I don't use the Glide on a daily basis, but on my Captivate I generally plug in USB and then on the phone, pull down the notification bar, choose USB, then choose mount or whatever it says. Then on your PC go to Start>Computer and see if it's there.

Crud fail. Beginner when it comes to Android. No usb in glide status bar

Oh wait you have to connect usb, then it appears, hehe ill try that later thx

Heh, good luck with that. Check back here if you still need help.
I was asking about experience because if this is your first Android phone experience, there's a bit of a learning curve with some things. Since the Glide section is still new, I would suggest heading over to the Original Captivate section and reading through some guides. There's a lot of good information there, we've been building on it close to 2 years now hopefully some of that might help.
Hehe, I've got a lonng time with this phone so yes, ill read through that. Any guides there about learning rom making and becoming a Dev?

This section should give you a few months of reading about ROM development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=613
And here's the original Captivate section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=703
Just recently cleared my cache and data to test out the Cranium ROM, however, now my phone goes undetected for USB in both download AND regular boot
EDIT: Now after going to Wireless and networks..
I can see In my Notificaitons
USB connected
MTP - Connected
But if I tap it my notification just disappears..
To have the pull down usb connection, you need to enable usb debugging.
Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging

Same thing here (in Firefox). I Google'd it and found that other people having the same problem on other sites too. I checked one of those sites and the same thing happened, page loads a little-bit and then get the blank page when ads.pubmatic.com is being accessed.
The funny thing is I blocked pubmatic.com and ads.pubmatic.com in my hosts file and it's still happening. It doesn't seem to happen in Chrome, though.
For me, I notice when I try to go back in internet explorer it takes like 15 clicks, so I actually use the mouse and click the tab on the top of the xda webpage. If I right click the back arrow for the browser it lists a bunch of ads, which explains why it takes so many clicks to get back. It is like this on every computer I have used xda on recently. Xda is the only site that I have this issue.

Having the same problem accessing this site from my laptop as well ..... arrrrrgh, its also affecting transformer forums. Anyone found a way to fix this problem yet
Blocking via hosts file doesn't appear to work, nor does blocking "ads.pubmatic.com" in Adblock Plus. After configuring the latter, the page still hangs, only this time on google-analytics.com, so now I'm not sure if it's pubmatic.com or something else.
I came across older (2008, 2009) results in Google reporting the same problem with pubmatic.com, so I really have no idea what's going on.

Ok .... I found the solution to this problem with the help of a member on another forum. What I had done wrong was I was not using the latest version of Firefox. Once I updated it both this forum and the other one now work brilliantly again on my laptop.
Hope this resolves your issue with logging into this great forum on your PC / Laptop

Thanks for letting us know, that's good to know there's one way to fix it.
That's not an option for me, unfortunately. There are still add-ons that I can't use outside of FF 3.6x. I'd rather know what exactly is going on and fix it without updating to the FF-Version-of-the-Month.

No problem, will continue to check back to see if you or someone else comes up with another option. I cleared caches, checked add-ons, firewalls rebooted routers and machines and had no luck. It works fine with Chrome as well.
Good luck
Glad I wasn't the only one having this issue, also thanks bimgirl for finding a work around even though I too hate newer versions of Firefox past 3.6.1.6 I will try chrome out.

No, it's definitely not you. I've come across several posts today from various other sites from people who have been experiencing this issue over the past 3-4 days.
I'm not sure if it's a coincidence, but many of them are running vBulletin. The issue seems to be restricted to Firefox.
Even after blocking a bunch of pubmatic.com sites in my hosts file, the issue is still happening, only the blank page hangs on www.google-analytics.com. I didn't want to go as far as blocking that, but I did anyway in my Hosts file with no success.
I came across this plug-in that I'm going to try out. This is an official Google addon that allows you to opt-out of google-analytics.com tracking.
http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en
Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (BETA)
To provide website visitors more choice on how their data is collected by Google Analytics, we have developed the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The add-on communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) to indicate that information about the website visit should not be sent to Google Analytics.
If you want to opt-out, download and install the add-on for your current web browser. The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on is available for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera.

EDIT: No dice. I installed the addon and now the hanging blank page stops loading. It still jumps to the blank page.
One other comment I read suggested that the sites themselves should verify that they've put the Google Analytics code at the very bottom of their page templates where it belongs. But I would assume that the GA code was put in place a long time ago, and doubt that would be the issue here.
---------- Post added at 02:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 PM ----------
Success!
I added "www.google-analytics.com" to my hosts file, in addition to "google-analytics.com" and everything is fine now.
One thing I didn't try was to only use the Google opt-out addon, without adding any "google-analytics" entries to my hosts file.
If someone who prefers not to alter their hosts file wants to try it the addon-only way, please let us know if it works for you.
Thanks, folks!

I'm sorry, if you tested another usb cable and you're perfectly sure you have fastboot and drivers for fastboot interface correctly installed, and already learned how to use the android/nexus/google tools, like adb and fastboot, then I think you need to read some of this. read it all. please. so that you can enjoy your device.

BBM for nexus 7

So bbm has just been released and it isn't available for install on my nexus 7 (2012). I tried using the leaked apk but it didn't work. I then tried to install via APK downloader but didn't work either. Can someone offer me some tips or suggestions or even the APK if you have it?
Also i know it just got released but I'm tackling the issue as soon as possible because i have been waiting for this for a long time now
Thanks in advance!

"rooted" but still no root.

Hi folks, used this forum many times for help but this is my first post.
Firstly I just want to say sorry if there's already a thread on this and if so, rather than having to repeat yourselves feel free to point me to it.
Secondly I've searched and searched for many methods to root this damn phone of mine (samsung google galaxy nexus gt-i9250). I've tried to do it using solely the phone and also computers… my problem is on a computer I can't get the drivers installed, tried everything but still no luck.
Anyways I tried to log on to my banking app and it refused as it says my phone is rooted so I tried a few checker apps and they also said im rooted.
But I tried another checker and it tells me I'm not rooted. Anyways after this I turned my phone off and on to find I had a supersu icon.. So I clicked onto it to see what was going on and it tells me the binary needs to be updated.
So I try and then it fails and I'm back to square one.
So again sorry if this is a repeated post and also if its in the wrong section… but if anyone has any idea on how to help me please leave a comment as I'm stumped and have no more ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Did you installed superuser or supersu..?? After rooting.
Its superSU… blue android with the red cape
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Try to update the binaries from its settings..
Still nothing... Thanks for your input, I'll keep trying and if I get any further I'll post back.
Think I might try wiping phone and starting over see if that works.
