First of all you can't run RUU with unlocked bootloader you need to relock it, go to fastboot connect phone to PC and run command:
fastboot oem lock
to relock bootloader.
Then run command:
fastboot getvar cid
to find the cid of your device. when you find it well find the appropriate RUU for you region.
However you can run PB.img from Goldcard without having to find appropriate RUU, but not all SD can be made to it. Go to AAHK2 thread and you will find what manufacturers are supported.

I'm unable to find appropriate RUU for your phone cause it's for TMobile UK. So Goldcard is the only way. However go to AAHK2 thread to find out which SD card can be used. When you make a gold card extract rom.zip from RUU that you tried, rename it to PD98IMG.zip, put it to the root of your goldcard and reboot phone to bootloader. Use Vol up and down buttons to install.

ok no problem i will give it a shot later tonight.. i will post my results... oh an i hit thanks
RESULTS: basically i now have a full stock desire hd although i now have no service i cant seem to get it to connect to my network... i followed all your instructions?

flash recovery
I have been through a similar situation before
But I have known the version of ruu for my phone
The key is the error message you have is solved by an easy way
You have to open the ruu u have
And look in the temp folder (%temp%)
For a file named rom.zip
Copy it
Unzip it
Flash boot.img
Recovery.img
System.img files in the fastboot menu
I.e
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot flash system system.img
Then try running the ruu again
It should work
Otherwise the gold card will solve it
Keep me updated

[Q] Unrooting, gone t!ts up, now bricked.

Im massively confused.
I would like to return my desire to stock, I've had nothing but signal problems since rooting and flashing another rom.
My phone was originally an o2 branded phone, so I have downloaded the RUU for the o2 (i'm guessing this includes the radio?) I've tried running the RUU and its gives me an error about my bootloader, I've just checked and the bootloader is 0.80.
Now this is where i'm getting confused, I can't wholeley remember what SDcard I made my goldcard. So do I need to make a new goldcard in order to compelte the Unroot or do I need to downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 using this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256 and then start again...
Or am I miles out?
Which ruu did you try?
This is the most recent one on shipped roms:

the first link doesn't seem to download anything,
the second downloads just fine and then runs then I get a error (110) File open error. leaving the phone with the HTC logo and 4 ! marks on four coners, I've tried re downloading the file aswell
this is the information that I get when I unplug the phone from the computer.

You don't need a goldcard if you flash the ruu which was installed on your phone when you bought it.
So if you phone was o2 branded and you flash a o2 ruu , you don't need a goldcard. If you want to flash a wwe ruu (unbranded) you do.
Did you write down the exact firmware version before rooting?

Right so its just about finding the correct RUU to get the phone working again?
Unfortunately I did'nt write any information down

How do I boot in to fastboot? Normally pressing vol - + Power would = fast boot right? doing this does nothing.
Should be power and BACK key

cant do nothing with any of the buttons, the only time the screen changes is when i unplug the phone from the usb (connected to computer) then i get a white screen that gives me some hboot information and under that ( normally where you would expect to see the bootloader etc it just says RUU, but again none of the buttons function.

I dont have a clue how to use either tbh, but Im willing to learn if its what I have to do to get this brick unbricked
Download the ruu again from the link eddy gave you.
Then use EddyOS his instructions about extracting the .zip file from the .exe you just downloaded.
You can extract the ROM.zip from any RUU to install via ZIP
Start the RUU and once at the first main screen click Start>Run and type
%temp%
now, find the newest folder and in there will be a ZIP file called Rom - copy this to your desktop and rename it PB99IMG. (Don't extract the file) Now copy this to your SD card and start the phone in HBOOT (turn it on whilst holding volume down). It will find the file and start the update. Just follow the instructions...
Do all this while not plugged into your computer. Not sure if it will work, but it's worth a shot.

[Solved] no hboot,no recovery and stuck on htc logo

i was S-OFF through Alpharev before installing RUU and forgot to read the instructions at Alpharev site that (Downgrade protection, these HBOOTs cannot be overwritten by an OTA or RUU, unless you flash a downgrader HBOOT first.)

after pressing voldown+power it only shows htc logo and at that time if i plug in usb and plug out it shows white screen with below mentioned information.

The latest Hboot version is 6.93.. if that is your Hboot .. it difficult to get back but you can try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10919215&postcount=5
But if your Hboot is.. 0.93 than you can download below file.. rename it as only PB99IMG.ZIP and put it into root of you sd card.. and switch your phone by pressing volume down and power.. it will automatic detec the file and flash it..
IMPORTANT this will required a goldcard.. but your can try first without making one..
it might get your USB working

yes HBOOT ver is same as i mentioned.
ADB is not detecting my device as posted on your given link that i have to ADB but ADB is not detecting my device even though PC device manager shows Android phone.
When you are in fastboot.. that is volum down and power... update your driver with below
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
and check adb
just installed drivers as per given instruction device manager shows Android ADB interface but again ADB shows error: device not found.
Download this
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
And than flash from this... I think you did not had USB debugging on .. when your phone was working... that could be the reason..
can you try this command ... fastboot devices

yehs.. you need to create a goldcard...
Please check your ADB now.. is it is working ..creating a goldcard is easy
just go to
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
ADB is still not detecting my device.when i have no other phone then how can i make gold card as gold card can only make through phone.
yehs you can... one of the easiest way is.. if you have any one around having android phone.. just put your memorycard in that phone.. and in market search for an app called goldcard helper..it will give you your reverse CID..
If you dont have that .. than also there is a way.. but it will take time and you need to do lots of thing..
what you can do is.. if you are using windows pc.. than you can install... virtual machine.. and install linux in it.. so when you open linux.. you can get your memory card cid from there.. i dont knw the exact steps.. but you can easly find on Google.. ...
Once you got CID.. you can follow the above goldcard guide.. from step 7..
On a other note.. remove memorycard from your mobile.. and than flash the RUU .. see what happer.. you may never know
i think you should try to make ADB work.. thought when I bricked my mobile .. i was not able to use ADB.. so I use my friend mobile to get CID... I dont knw if this tool will work witout ADB.. but try this too
http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
Set veriables also
Right click My computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables
under system variables click "path" and click "edit"
at the end of the line add a sem semi colon ";" and without a space put C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools - It should look like ;C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools then click ok.
Just let us know.. the results

no it's not working.already tried.check attached image.
now working on through linux.just downloaded vmware image of linux.lets hope for the good.i will post linux experience.
Ya i hope you will be able to get it from linux...
as when you will connect your memorycard in linux.. you can directly acces the sector zero where CID store.. so Inshallah.. it will work
Dont want to dissapoint you but read this
You can if you have Linux. You need a Laptop card reader slot and Linux. Once in Linux, navigate to a folder like /sys/block/mmcblk0/device/cid
I havent tested it out in a LiveCD. Check it out and tell me.
Programmers have tried writing applications to interface the sdcard in USB mode to get its CID number, but it needs a PCI slot or device-a phone-Either Android/Windows Mobile. A PC application may be specifically written for a PCI based card reader to read the CID, but such an application would be hardware specific for the particular brand of PCI card reader. You cant use it unless you are a programmer and know to do that. As far as I know there are currently no Windows programs that do that.
To clarify, Once again,
The only thing you need from your memory card to create a goldcard, is its unique CID number (which is inserted by the manufacturer of the card)
The CID is unique to a memory card. It is not specific to the device
You can get the CID of the sdcard from:
Any Android phone which can connect and use the adb command.
A Linux operating system running on a Notebook with PCI slot which can read a memory card. Note: YOU CANNOT GET CID FROM LINUX FROM A USB CARD READER of a PC/Laptop. You need the PCI card slot.
You can even get the CID from a Garmin proprietory OS or a Windows mobile based phone. There are utilities available online using these, which can be seen in a Google search.
Do not try to get CID from any PC via USB cable. It can display a CID code but not the correct one. It is said that "USB lies about the CID".
goldcard created can u please tell me that what should i do now with this goldcard?
issue has been resolved by creating gold card and stock ruu.thanks for the support (jhonybravo4u)

I`m stuck on the alpharev sense hboot version and the error i get while flashing the RUU is when flashing the system partition which in this case is smaller then the stock one, i suspect this is why after typing fastboot oem in cmd my phone only boots the htc logo (green letters and white background)
Please help
I solved my problem just by flashing the downgrade hboot from the alpharev site. I typed fastboot flash hboot bravo_downgrade.img in cmd after previously extracting the bravo_downgrade.img into my androidsdk\tool folder. I amnowcertain that my problem was due to having flashed the alpharev sense hboot which didn`t have enough space on the system partition. It turns out that my problem wasn`t really that bad.

I want to downgrade to RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed , now have newest gingerbread
I need to start from phase 2? i'm little confused about goldcard, i don't need it because my phone isn't branded? right?...
" [PHASE2]- we need to extract rom.zip from the RUU. If your phone is branded Orange, you will need a goldcard because Orange didn't release any RUU's.. The bastards
[P2/STEP1]- Run the RUU (BUT DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE OR CONTINUE), move it to the side as it cannot be minimised.
[P2/STEP2]- go to start menu, and use the "run" feature. Type in %temp%
[P2/STEP3]- select "date modified" to "today" (to make it easier to find). There are should now be 2 folders with long names of random characters.
[P2/STEP4]- search the folders for rom.zip and extract it to the desktop.
[P2/STEP5]- Rename the rom.zip to PB99IMG.zip (if on windows 7 and you have hidden file extensions, only make the name PB99IMG, otherwise it will be PB99IMG.zip.zip - because windows is retarded sometimes)
[PHASE3]- now we need to actually use the RUU
[P3/STEP1]- put the file in the ROOT of your sd-card (not in any file or folder) and boot into bootloader (poweroff, hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER). After a few seconds, you will be prompted to update bootloader. Select Yes. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE PROCESS, OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
[P3/STEP2]- Once the process is finished, you will now be S-ON and unrooted with the stock system. "

I have pretty much the same phone. I've bought it in Austria. Once stopped workig... I can navigate in the bootloader menu, but anything I choose, it freezes. OK, it calculates CRC. No image files, just like my mem card also unreadable with PC. No flashes help. I've downloaded stock RUU. It communicates with the PC says fastboot usb, starts to flash and stops at reboot bootloader and never goes any further....
As your bootloader is S-ON you can't flash custom rom's, adb won't work until the device is past the bootloader and starting up the rom.
Not all sd-cards work properly in Gold mode (it isn't correctly made Golden if your pc wants you to format the sd-card), try another one or format your current one in FAT32 and put the latest PC10IMG.zip (Download one of the .zip files here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision rename it to PC10IMG.zip, make sure you don't have extentions hidden in windows for the renaming to be accurate) in the root of it and start the device in the bootloader (holding power and volume down). Then it should flash the PC10IMG.zip as normal.
You can also try to boot into recovery mode and recover your rom from there (as your bootloader is S-ON chances are you've still got stock recovery).
Then, if you still want to, you can try and unlock the bootloader and root your phone.
If the above isn't working for you you can always try to unlock your bootloader via htc (you only need fastboot to work for this). Register at http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ and follow the unlock instructions. After that you should be able to flash a custom recovery like Clockwork mod (http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.0-vision.img) and install one of the many ROM's available in the android development section of the Desire Z formums.
You can also try and flash this PC10IMG.zip (http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/misc/PC10IMG.zip) it contains the correct bootloader (S-OFF hboot), clockworkmod recovery and the latest T-Mobile radio (There's no ROM included in here, you can restart the device in recovery and install a custom ROM).
If this doesn't work, post your problems here, I'll take a look at them and try to help you to get further.

[Q] Will I save my htc Desire?

Dear all,
I have been looking around the forums and downloaded a few things and looked at various solutions, but I am stuck at the first hurdle.
I have been given an htc Desire Bravo that just will not boot. I do not know how it failed originally but I can only get it into the boot screens, either the fastboot/hboot logon ot the 5 buzzes and the htc logo lock. Also it takes about 30 minutes with the battery out after every failed boot attempt to restart the boot screen.
I have run adb but it cannot tell me a cid number, I have a micro sd card in it but it does not have the pb99diag.zip on it. When I put such a file on the sd card it does not find it. Communication via adb and the phone has varied success. I suspect it is drivers and what I read is an old adb bug where server is out of date.
I have never done this before this weekend so please be gentle with me!
If I can get it to work, even to use it like a wifi tablet without phone I would be happy. I am in the UK and if we have real success I would get it on tesco PAYG
I get the "cannot find pb99diag.zip etc" dialogue when going into hboot.
The logon says

Can someone suggest where to start? I have tried a number of guides on the forum but no success so far. Even just getting an os running would be success. I will be looking at this each evening so apologies if I seem slow to respond
Thanks
Adrian
First make S-Off. I forgot how but if i think right, you must it do via revolutionary, If it success, then download 4ext recovery.IMG and flash it via fastboot and reboot in bootloader in your recovery

After you s off u can flash hboot the easy way but first s off.

If u phone does not boot then u can NOT s-off, ur phone needs to be booted.. also if ur s-on and not rooted then all u can do is flash a ruu.
Did u try factory reset from bootloader menu? Try that first, u never know but chances r ul prob need to ruu a ruu.

Hi jmcclue,
Thanks for the comments. I can boot to the HBoot and Fastboot screens, thats how I could find the S-ON and version data. If I get it to reboot, I get either a white screen with just "htc" on it, or 5 buzzes and a screen with no life at all. I am hopeful to get it to S-OFF as I have had some communication through the usb to pc connection. I am not sure if I can do an RUU update as I don't seem to have a CID. I do not have a factory reset option on the HBOOT screen. I have tried clear storage but that has no effect. Perhaps I need the S-OFF first.
Cheers again,
A
Use the 2.3gb update ruu its wwe (world wide english) so dont worry bout cid. U can find it in bortaks troubleshooting guide in resources section and its naned 2.3.3 ruu. U will find it easy enough in google aswell. Search for "htc desire 2.3gb update" its a exe file so just boot ur phone into fastboot, plug in ur phone and run the ruu, hopefully it willvwork. Im a bit worried tho about the 5 vibrations u get, maybe a sign of hardware failure. But try that ruu anyway. And again u can not get s-off unless ur phone is fully working/booted.

Well that was a bit wierd
If anyone can see where I went wrong, feel free to say.
I could not seem to get the link between the phone and the pc so I removed the htc sync and restarted the pc. I could then connect to the phone in some way as abd gave a command error when I sent a fastboot oem readcid which it normally does. So leaving it in fastboot with usb I ran the wwe~.exe file and it all seemed to be doing installing. There were tens of installations going to the phone I guess each reaching 100%. Suddenly I had a web page popup in my browser s.rev2pub.com/ul_cb/player.html?a=19471543&context=c23573548&size=800x600&rt=popunder&ci=10&cb=[CACHEBUSTER] recommending I download latest drivers. The wwe ruu vanished and I have no continuing processes in Task manager that I can see.
So, should I have installed in hboot? Thankfully I can still get the phone to power on. What should happen after the exe file installs?
I am able to get some response from the phone as adb devices returns the phone device number. So I hope I can try again.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

Hey Adrian, I had the same problem as you did, hopefully I can be of help.
First, like everyone else is saying you will need S-OFF.
To do this head to this site on your PC revolutionary.io hit download for windows or Linux or whatever your pc is running, then you will need to fill out information about your device (see attached screenshot). Device, HBoot number, and serial number, (the serial number can be found behind the battery of your device). Once you have done that, click "Generate Key". it will give you a key, remember it or write it down.
Then, open the file that was downloaded, and extract the contents to your documents and Run the revolutionary( should look like the screenshot attached). Plug your device in (assuming you have the drivers) and it should ask you to enter the beta key we had before. Enter that and hit enter. it will then S-off your Desire and soon ask if you would like to install a custom recovery. hit Y and then enter, once that is finished, unplug your device and in HBoot go to "Recovery". Now you can flash a ROM of your choice.
Hopefully I made sense!
Best of luck

Can I confirm that I can do this from the HBOOT screen or the fastboot screen? Also where jmmclue said if I can't boot then I can't S-Off, does that mean boot to the HBOOT screen or into Android? Then if I want to load say WWE, do I put that on a microSD to get it to recover?
thanks again

Thanks lilsafbig, that was a little too ambiguous to understand, but I have a few developments.
I am able to communicate to some degree with adb between phone and pc. Before I was unable to get anything back but now with the right syntax I have got back the CID as HTC_001 and the device number. But when I run revolutionary from the fastboot USB screen the revolutionary continues to wait for the device to show. Is it likely that USB degugging was off prior to the failure, is there a way to get it on. I suggest this as when I connect it to my pc it recognizes the device and shows in the device manager as an htc unspecified device (this is progress). As I cannot boot android it does not show as an additional drive in file manger. when I try some of the fastboot oem commands I get bad command errors, whilst fastboot getvars is ok. Could this be why I cannot get revolutionary to S-OFF!
Thanks
additional info, when usb is in an in fastboot usb, the device manager sees it as android 1.0

If you can still get to bootloader / fastboot screen, then you are rarely ever bricked.
1. Ignore anything and everything to do with revolutionary and fastboot for now. I'm afraid the first few posts while trying to be helpful have been misleading. Get your phone booting up into Android OS first, i.e. into a stock ROM using an RUU
2. Use the 2.3.3. GB RUU, nothing else, it doesn't need a goldcard or care about CID etc.
3. Download it from the bottom here, then use Bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A, Point [7] to run it as a PB99IMG.zip from the root of your sdcard. That way you don't need to run it through USB or care about what drivers are installed.
Thank you Eddie, I will try that. I did try flash a PB99IMG.zip before with no success but I will try again.
I found it here Official Stock Sense Gingerbread_v1.2 GB-2.3.3_A2SD – http://androidba.se/J7 for desire (neophyte)
I hope it can work out ok. I guess I format the sd card to fat32 not ext4
Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
A

That's a custom rom.
Here's the link for the 2.3.3 ruu.

That did not work because the file is not an RUU...it is a stock rooted custom ROM with A2SD (the clue is in the name). It is designed to flashed in recovery like any other ROM. Renaming it to PB99IMG.zip won't do anything.
Use the actual shipped roms RUU link provided.
Reformat your sdcard to a single FAT32 partition if necessary, then follow Method [7] of the guide, place only the PB99IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard (not in any folder)
