Charging management app? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

What I'm wanting to do is two things:
1) Have my Note 8.0 stop charging at 80% even though it may still be plugged in.
2) Have my Note 8.0 run off mains power without using the battery or charging.
Is this possible? Is such an app available? Anyone interested in making one? It would really help prolong the life of the non-removable battery.

Hi guyz
Can we keep the charger plugged in even it is fully charged?
Will this make any problem to battery?

there are no problems whatsoever with doing this.
Depends on your definition of continuously.
You need to let the battery drain at least a little once in awhile.
I had a laptop that I left plugged in with the (li-ion) battery for a long time and now the battery is useless.
yep, if you NEVER unplug it - the battery will be completely useless
if you are thinking of keeping it continuously plugged in, what i do with laptops is just to remove the battery and use it without

Works on mine.
1. Keep battery in note
2. Plug charger
3. Turn Note On (if it isn't already)
4. Remove battery
Note should stay awake
^Wow.. Really? I'll do that at work! No more killing my batt! Thanks
Edit: and fail... killed the phone. I guess it doesn't work.

Yes you can I do it every night. Sometimes I plugging in with 80% charge. I charge every night whether the phone needs it or not since I've had the Captivate I've had no issues. Sometimes I leave the phone on charge when I'm watching TV and it's next to me on the table. There is circuitry in chargers and in the phone to stop the charge when the phone is full It becomes a trickle charger after that
I leave my phone in one of a number of charging cradles when I'm home

I went camping, and the only other batteries I had were smaller. The old batteries from my Vibrant (1500mAh) fit the Note, more or less. I just wedged a cut piece of packing foam in the gap at the bottom to make sure it stayed put (I contemplated taping it there).
Using an alternate, smaller, cheaper 3.7v would save you from blowing out your OEM battery (particularly if you have an old one that already won't hold a charge).
The manual says not to keep it plugged in for more than a week. I keep it plugged in for about 20 hours a day and have had no problems in six months or so.

Been having bad battery life? It might be your charger and not your phone

This isn't my app, but I wanted to give fellow T989 users a heads-up on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801608
Apparently, our phones don't get along well with certain 3rd party chargers, and if you use one, it'll wakelock your phone until you reboot. For those of you who don't know what a wakelock is, the short version is it prevents your phone from deep sleeping, screwing your battery life.
I'd been using an old Blackberry charger with my phone, and using the linked app, tested it and discovered it was causing this problem. After switching to a different charger, I get much better battery life now.
I highly recommend anyone not using the original charger to test their charger and make sure it's not ruining your battery life.

The phone can detect when you're using ANY charger but the original Sammy charger. There are 2 switched pins on the charger that detect this. When the phone detects an incompatible charger it only chargers at 350mah. When using the normal charger it charges at a full 700mah or whatever the charger pushes to the phone.

If i was to replace just the USB cord that came with the phone with a generic one, would this cause the charger to only charge at 350mah?

Actually, I have a number of chargers that work to fast charge and work properly. Tested them with the app I linked and they come out without issue.
These include the charger that came with my Pantech Element tablet, charger from a Palm Pre, and charger from my old HTC Touch Pro 2.
They all charge at 900ma+ and don't cause wakelocks.

Sorry, but that's a flat out fib. This subject has already been fully established and spoken about. Look it up. Even TheDerekJay himself has spoken and elaborated on this with his development findings on this phone.
I also have numerous chargers. 2 700mah Sammy chargers, an HTC my touch 4g charger, iPhone 1000mah charger, and Evo 3d charger.. safe to say none of them charge nearly as fast as the Sammy chargers. Approximately 3 hours from 0% to a full charge. Around 5-6 hours with the others.

[Q] Charging Note2 with the Note1 charger

Hello
My note 2 stock charger got damaged & untill i bring a new one, can i use the note 1 charger? Or it will damage the battery some how?
I want a reasonable answer not like "yes u can"
Thanks for your cooperation
Edit : i googled for an answer but unfortunately i couldn't find any with my search keys...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
I dont have a note 1 and a note 1 charger so I cant really answer.
But i advise you to compare whats written on both chargers. Volt, power all that stuff. If its the same i dont see a problem.
Maybe its not the best advice but I used to charge my LG p990 with a N97 charger and its still fine.
Theres one thing with my note 2 charger.
When I charge it theres a little noise that pisses me off its like ultrasound or something coming from the charger connected on the wall. I usually notice the noise wheb the phone is at 65%.
Charger dead ?

Same here before i damage the charger i heared the noise accidently
The note1 charger output is 5V , 1Am
Can u compare it with yours ?
Thank you btw

You can use it but it well charge slowly. So the usual 2.5 hours to charge week become 4 to 5 hours.
Both chargers are micro usb and is required for them (as a standard) to be 5 volts. So using them to charge ur GN2 is ok.
The current really doesn't matter. It only dictates how fast its gonna be charging your phone. Since the usual GN2 charger uses 2 amps, using the 1 amp GN1 charger would just make your phone charge longer. Anything above 2 amps may be harmful and untested.
I believe they made the GN2 charger 2 amps because it has to make the charging time shorter to compensate for the bigger battery.

Yup, if those numbers are true then it will take twice as long to charge a note 2 using the note 1 charger. The output voltage must be the same, otherwise bad things may happen. I remember reading somewhere the faster the charging, the quicker the battery life degrades, so the Note 1 charger may actually be better, but I have read so many contradicting articles about Li-Ion Batteries that I don't know what to believe. In any case, you can try. In theory, it's safe, and if really needs a stronger charge, it will either display a message that it needs a different charger or it simply won't charge. It won't blow up or break down, but you shouldn't leave it connected for hours either if you see it doesn't charge.

Extra battery problem

Bought two extra batteries to have in reserve or if I'm on a long trip being able to switch without charging. However I have been preoccupied with other things so I haven't switched among the batteries for over a month. I have a charge dock with holder for an extra battery and do another battery is always charging in it. I realizedthat I hadn't switched for a while so I took out my battery and inserted one of the others. Unfortunately it seems completely dead, the same goes for the one sitting in the charge dock. Is there anything I can do to revive those batteries? Or do I just have to eat crow? If nothing else, let this be a cautionary tale.

Maybe you should try to charge the batteries using your Note and not the external charger.

I have it a new try, removed the battery, inserted a depleted and charged it directly in the phone bypassing the dock. First it showed a yellow warning triangle which worried me but I let it stay. Lo and behold the next morning the battery was charged to 100%. Wonder why it works directly but not in the dock? Strange, anyway thank you for your suggestion.

I cannot tell you why exactly it worked out for you but generally phones have more or less sophisticated circuits to charge batteries and avoid overcharge. Maybe the circuits in your dock are not optimal and thus it did not recognize the empty battery. I'm glad you could solve your problem.

Just a little update. Turns out I can get life back into the Samsung original battery but the no-brand Chinese gold battery with 3250 mAh rating is completely dead. So I guess there is something to be said for original parts.

When to replace stock battery?

Hello,
Is there any kind of app that can determine if the stock battery has lost it ability to hold a charge? I have several spare stock batteries that either came with the phone or were purchased separately. I am experiencing an issue where battery goes from a high level (more than 50%) to less than (less than 10%) after a reboot. All the batteries look the same, so I am not sure if the issue is with one battery or all. My charge port is broken and I have to charge via an external charger. Thank you in advance.
