Kit Kat 4.4 - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

When do you think it will come to our device?

These forums for the KF2 are dead, so chances are slim to never. Almost all the devs are gone, or just think its more worth it to upgrade to a better, newer tablet.

The cyanogen team had kf2 listed on their 10.2 builds. Would they be included on 11?

I can get it to compile (CM11, AOKP4.4, and/or OmniROM 4.4) BUT TWRP needs to be upgraded...you will get a flash error. I tried to make an updated TWRP and was successful but still cannot get it to boot. Still looking into it when I get time.
But I only know so much about android systems, Hashcode is doing all of the hard work.

That's been an issue on almost all devices, so the solution has been to just switch to clockworkmod in the meantime. Not sure if there's an updated version of cwm for the kf2, though.

I dont think anyone on here has tried a CWM and made it public.
I did make a TWRP from CM10.2 and swaped in TeamWin recovery binaries (which should make TWRP 2.7) but when flashed to my KF2 it only reads 2.6.3 which is what it had before...but now can flash KitKat but not boot.

Good news: CM11 came to otter2!!!
Bad news: I can't flash it. It ends up with the error set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed.
Can someone make CWM for otter2 and upload it to their d-h.st account?

I spoke with hashcode and he is providing an updated twrp soon. Very busy dude so it might take a bit.

Guys you don't need an updated version of twrp. Just simply replace the update binary with this one and you can flash it...
Sry for no credit but I can't find the thread of the author.

There is no HD version 10.3.1
You must have a kindle fire 2. If you look in the HD section you will see a COMPLETELY different version number.
The versions for the 7" HD model are 7.3.x
Sounds like you got REAL lucky since I don't think you know what device you have!

You may be right I may have thought mine was 10.3.1 when really it was 7.3.1 with the thousands of posts just about the kindle fire its is easy to get confused and lost just like I somehow ended up posting incorrect info in the kindle fire 2 section when I typed in Amazon 7 Kindle Fire HD in the search bar at the top. I was a man and admitted I was wrong and withdrew my comment now will you drop it. Thanks

What do you mean you added all of >system to stock 4.3? Everything in /system makes up a custom ROM. If you replaced/overwrote everything in the 4.3 /system with the /system in XenonHD, you would basically just have XenonHD and it would not be 4.3 (unless it was to begin with). Maybe post what your goal is and we can help you get there . It'll be hard if you're trying to do it without compiling from source. It's not as easy as copying apk's from one rom to another.

He is compiling them. The Kindle fire base and the kernel is developed by Hashcode. Slim, AOKP, and Carbon implementations are all created by their perspective developers. Does that answer your question? Compiling a Rom is just a matter of setting up the proper environment and repositories then letting it rip. Well there`s a bit more to it than that but you get the jist.
Yeah he's exactly right. ^ also, I test the first build to make sure it does work and then I put it out if anyone wants to use it. I am building these myself. I can take screenshots of the builds straight from my computer if you'd like.
I may not be able to maintain all these ROMs, but I'd like to put the options out there. I might have to request for other people to maintain the aokp and slimbean thread if life gets too busy. I was originally only planning on maintaining carbon.. So I will keep going with that.
Thanks for the ports. Slimbean runs well, no real problems or quibbles I've found so far.
36 hours and one full cycle into this one and all is good. Seems SlimBean has settled in nicely on my KF. Thanks androidsftw! Your efforts to bring this variety of ROMs for us is greatly appreciated here!

Actually, it's not rare at all.
Not sure why people are being skittish about using the ROM, I've run it for about a week now and it's rock solid stable! Fast and smooth...definitely one of the best 4.3.1 ROMs out.
Edit; Ive been using a few of the KitKat 4.4 system apks ( Play services, email, GEL Launcher, keyboard...) from here without any issues, making this Rom just that much more awesome. Can't wait for SlimRom to get updated to the new base!

Did it work for you? It didn't for me. Soft bricked my phone. Luckily I could Odin out of it.

It works totally fine for me not sure why you had a soft brick issue. Its a lot nicer than having to use the volume buttons to toggle around.

Now: one common recovery for all: d2lte
The d2att specific variants are no more updated, use d2lte common variant
So all d2att will now be d2lte?

No latest build yet (6.22) :crying:
On 6.19, everytime i boot recovery, the recovery settings are reset to defaults, i have to load the config from a save file every time. Any idea why this is?
