I have just recently installed CM 10.1.3 along with a new bootloader, modem, and kernel. After trying to set my phone back up I noticed that my internal storage was a complete wreck. I've read all about the 4.2 file storage and I would like to clean it up some. Also somehow, my old files were transferred when I flashed 10.1.3, so this is another reason for wanting to go clean. I have seen threads stating to move everything to the external SD, and then wipe the internal, but I'm not really too sure on how to do this. Should I be installing the fresh 10.1.3 from my ext SD? I'd appreciate some help! Thanks.
Can someone please help? I've searched around and have found answers, just unclear ones. I am sitting inside of CWM currently looking at the "Mounts and Storage Menu". I see the following options:
format /cache
format /system
format /data
format /storage/sdcard1
format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)
Which one/ones of these should I choose to wipe the internal memory? Is sdcard1 my externalSD, because if so, that is where my backups and CM10.1.3 is stored, so I need to leave it. Any clues?

- but... pull your sd card first. Re-insert when you're done cleaning. Once upon a time, a long time ago, I had slippery fingers and poof went my extSD... :crying:

Thanks! I actually just read this suggestion on another sub-forum. I'm rebooting my phone into CWM now to give it a shot. Wish me luck! :silly:
Okay everything is great now! Here's how my memory looks now:

Tons of room and no more mess of 0/0/0! What I did was keep my nandroid backup and CM 10.1.3 on my extSD, remove the extSD, boot into CWM, formatted the sd card, cleared everything, did NOT reboot yet, inserted extSD, installed CM from extSD, then rebooted. I hope this helps anyone that is struck with confusion. :good:

Hi,
When setting up my SD card the first time I put the EXT at the start (rather than at the end which is usually recommended). So far the rom's I've tried have been forgiving and I haven't had any issues because of it, but I'm looking at trying a few more and some state *specifically* that it needs to be at the end.
I've already tried just swapping the partitions around in gparted (I have enough empty space on card to do this with no loss of data) but the phone can no longer see the EXT after this...
I just want to check, if I were to do a titanium backup/sms backup & restore and wipe my card and set it up again from scratch including a fresh ROM flash - I shouldn't have any issues getting apps/settings back right? I presume that a nandroid recovery from before shifting the EXT won't work either :/
Thankyou in advance!
I'm still pretty new to all this but from what I understand you'd have to back up what data you can then repartition your card in the correct order and start again.

I strongly recommend you to use Magic partition manager ( no boot cd needed / no virtual machine needed )
- backup all your sdcard
- format all the sdcard
- create first partition Fat32
- create second partition ext 2/3/4 at the end of the card
( 1Gb max recommended and ext3 would be the best for performance/sdcard life _ written cycles )
You are done _ Hope it helps you

Just to post back, everything worked. Did backup and nandroid and copied anything I needed to pc. Used gparted to wipe old partitions and put them back correctly. Phone couldn't see ext at that point as predicted so just dis a fresh Rom flash and restored apps via mybackup, all went well.

Alright, so today I decided to flash a new ROM and since AmonRA has a build in wipe all I used that, but when I went to the flash zip menu I got this error
Code:
Build : RA-supersonic-v3.11-gnm
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
So at the moment my phone is useless. I tried formatting my SD card (My SD card does mount to my computer properly) and that didn't work. I also don't have another SD card to use at the moment. Is there a way to fix this or

Did you wipe the SD Card? If so, you won't have anything on it to install. Is the card partitioned? You should probably try re-flashing your Recovery, using a PC36IMG file in the bootloader.

Ill try but last time it didn't even read from my bootloader
Edit: It didn't work, it seems no SD card I try will mount, maybe I broke the reader?
Im going to try a fix I found

Even if I install an emulator or environment I need the drivers.
This is nuts. This is the 3rd report thread I've seen TODAY of peoples recoveries locking them out from SD card. 1 in General 2 in Q&A. There's got to be a common denominator. Starting to wonder what rom and what recovery each of you were using (I know you're using drellisdee Ra style)

has anyone found a solution in those other 2 threads? Im still locked out.
Two threads above yours sounds similar.

I have this problem as well. Running deck's pb22 amon-ra recovery. I can see the card in root explorer. I can't connect to ums while booted.
I can get files to and from using wifi file explorer.

I have inserted a new 64GB micro SD card in my N7100. I am able to see it fine via the phone at Settings -> Storage. I placed a flashable zip on it using AirDroid.
Went to CWM, then 'choose zip from external sdcard' and it shows:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.1.9
E : Can't mount /external_sd/

I am also unable to do a backup via CWM. It says:
CWM v6.0.1.9
backup to external sdcard -> Can't mount backup path.

Please advise.
make sure its not exfat formatted...although n7100 supports it, but cwm only supports fat32
Thanks for the reply.
I inserted the micro SD into the Adapter that came along with it, plugged it into my Mac, opened Disk Utility and formatted the card as MS-DOS (FAT). Now everything is fine.

Clockworkmod won't read sd card
I'm having this same issue. I've tried two different releases of Clockworkmod, and tried formatting in FAT and FAT32. No help. I also fixed permissions from inside Cwm and tried formatting external sd from Cwm with no luck. Any other pointers?

I'm still not sure why Cwm won't mount the external sd card, but I copied the rom & gapps file to the internal memory. It worked from there!
I Solved It
First Solution : (Simple)
For E : Can't mount /external_sd/ you should format your sd card with your device :
Setting >> Storage >> Format SD card
***NOTE: Backup your information from SD Card.
Now Reboot with CWM and choose backup to external sdcard.
Second Solution :
I have Same Problem with galaxy tab2 p3100.
1st you install stock rom your device.
2nd Try first solution!!!
If its Worked Like Me!!!:good::good::good:
I seem to have run into a problem yesterday when flashing a leaked 4.1.2 rom. (on my girlfriend's Xperia S)
I have installed it on a stock .255 as instructed and the installation was completed successfully. I didn't do a full wipe as I wanted to keep all of my previous data. Now the ROM runs absolutely fine on the phone but all data seems to be gone (???).
When I checked the storage on the phone I found that 24gb of data are still being occupied. I installed a file manager and found that all of my previous data along with application data is still present on my phone memory.
After fiddling a bit with the settings and a few ROM flashes later I have managed to put the phone in bootloop and I ended up having to wipe data on the phone with flashtool and I did a clean install of .255 firmware and then flashed the TuRdZzROM.
To my surprise even after going through all of the above the data is still present on my phone's memory. It seems like it is some sort of partition or something that is not being touched by the system. The files can be read and opened through any file manager.
Is there anyone here who understands where the problem lies and how I could fix it?
I attach a couple of screenshots from the filemanager on the phone below.
and here is a full filetree:

The internal memory is highly partitioned. Boot, system, data, cache, TA, and a few other ones, and mainly SD card. That's where your data goes. Unless you format that one, the factory rest won't touch it.

Alright so I have all of this data on the sd card partition... There is a folder called Android in there where all the apps that I have previously had installed (before flashing) have their data stored. Is there any way to "revive" that? (all installed apps have been deleted when flashing )
Also I had some contacts stored in my phone but I can't find them now, would they also be found somewhere on the sd card?

That data stored data isn't the app settings, neither all of that. Mostly cache related files...
About the contact, they aren't stored on the SD card, but on the data partition, under Contacts data. They can be on a vSync file, IF you had a backup made with the Contacts app. If not, they are lost.

Thanks a lot for your help mate
It really confused me how I had most of my storage filled after doing a clean install.
My phone:
T-Mobile S4, Dandroid Google Play Edition 4.4.1 ROM, TWRP 2.6.3, stock kernel (before things messed up)
My problem/situation and what I tried to fix (without success):
Flashed KTweaker kernel, which resulted in a bootloop (phone stuck at boot animation). After I flashed the Kernel I later read on the thread that I need the international version for my ROM.
I can't ADB sideload the correct kernel zip because my PC won't recognize the phone when I install the Samsung drivers, but ODIN 3.07 does recognize my phone when connected in download mode (see pics below). I tried for hours to install the Samsung drivers on 3 different PCs with the same result: ADB won't recognize, but Odin does recognize phone. Is this related to the kernel? Can anyone direct me to instructions for ADB sideloading for the S4?
My question (need your advice on):
Can I use ODIN to fix my problem? Will flashing the TAR file from CD Auto Root install the stock kernel? I don't mind going back to stock recovery since I re-install TWRP and my Nandroid backup afterwards. I don't want to try it out of fear it'll further F my phone. I've given up on trying to install Samsung drivers to use ADB. What are your thoughts?

Can you still boot into TWRP Recovery?
If so, just put the correct recovery for your version on the external SD card and flash it in recovery.
If you don't have an external SD card, get one. Anywher.e Any Micro SD card will work. The kernel file is only going to be like 8MB so literally any Micro SD card ever made will fit the file.

shortly after I made my original post I got the idea (while cooking dinner) to use a micro SD card. I was able to install the correct kernel zip file from the micro sd card using TWRP. That fixed my problem. I'm kicking myself for not thinking of this earlier. It would have saved me about 4 hours, but I got to learn a lot about ADB in the process LOL. Thanks for confirming my idea. :good:
