[Q] Error? - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

I have a 1st Generation Kindle Fire which is rooted. It has Jellybean 4.2.2, with a Nexus 7 theme. I was attempting to unroot the Kindle using TWRP and I did wipe the cache and factory settings.
I thought it was going fine till I got this:

So which is it? Do you want to root or unroot? Your message seems to contradict itself.

Okay so, let's assume "I believe so, yes" really means "yes". If that's the case, then you could probably use adb to install a different version of TWRP. But before we get into that, what is the reason behind wanting to "unroot" your device in the first place? Are you wanting to revert to stock? Do you prefer the stock OS over JB? Do you want to remove TWRP and the 2nd bootloader altogether? Are you planning to start all over again like so many needlessly do? The key to getting the answers you're looking for are in the details because those details may lead you to a more appropriate solution to your problem.

Yes I want to unroot my device to get back into stock. I do prefer KF OS instead of JB. Yes I want to start the Kindle from scratch with no TWRP. Or if what I want is not possible, I would like to be able to unroot the Kindle Fire, then root it again so this time I can have Go Launcher EX with KF OS like I wanted in the first place.

You do realise you are in the Kindle Fire 2 area, and anything you follow from here will end in a bricked device?
You need to find and follow the Kindle Fire 1 threads.

I think you need to stop flashing, until we can figure a way out of working out if it's a KF1 or KF2.
Anybody know how to do this from recovery version, or are there other distinguishing features?
When you bought it, did it come in a box?

Kindle Fire demo model

I bought a Kindle Fire off Craigslist and got home and realized I had been had and was sold a demonstration model. I'm hoping by rooting the Kindle I can possibly reverse this. I followed all the instructions in death2all110's thread but the first step I can not perform because when I try to go into settings I get a message saying "demonstration device this feature is not available" This is the step that allows you to sideload. Is there another way that I can sideload? Even if I am able to sideload, do you think this will fix my problem? Please help.

This, don't keep stolen property. Contact the seller and get your money back or call the police. It should be easy to track down which store it was stolen from.

[Q] Got my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Rooted... Now what?

So I've rooted my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and now I'd like to know what I need to do next in order to get an Android ROM (probably CM10) running on it. I have searched all around but I can not for the life of me figure out how to get it working. I know I need to get TWRP installed so I can flash the rom but I do not know how to get TWRP installed. Any help would be great at this point!

I tried months ago to root my 8.9... with no success (Bin4ry's V 17). What method did you use to root and do you remember what firmware you had before you did it? I think I might be stuck because I have version: 8.1.4. Has anyone had success rooting the 8.9 with 8.1.4?

Got some errors the first time. After factory reset second time was fine.

If the MD5 of the downloaded file matches the MD5 given in the thread, then you do not have a T999, and you bricked your phone. I would guess that you have the intl version. If that's the case, you are in the incorrect forum.
What can i do ?

That file is designed to not flash unless the checksums match the ones stored in the update script. I'm a little hesitant to link this thread without knowing what went wrong, but here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439367.

I agree with aerowinder, your posts all suggest it's not a T999, as that's what happens when you flash that firmware to a different model. Are you absolutely certain it does not say SGH-T999L?
If it says it's a T999, then your only chance is the thread he linked to a few posts back.

Try this video first listen carefully, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU5H8NJ7vTM... do not download his debricked img file. Download one from this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345860. Your phones hardware may be a i747. I had the same problem , behind my battery says it's a I9300 and when I rooted for I9300 didn't work after 2 tries. Then I noticed when I plugged my phone in the usb it was looking for T999 drivers. So I just assumed it was t999 ... well, I ended up bricking the phone and I found that youtube video and presto, fixed. I use the img file for T999. If you think you have an I747 here is the download link http://d-h.st/iEy...do at you own risk. I don't think it matters anyway if your phone is already bricked. I just sayin it worked for me, it may also work for you. Good luck!

Root kf hd 8.9 1st gen 8.4.9

I have a kindle fire hd 8.9 first generation running 8.4.9 how can I safely and easily root it it's the 30 gig if that matters. I paid 400 so I really don't want to brick this thing I'm not really sure of the difference between the 1st gen and the 2nd gen but I know mine is the first gen because I bought it when it first came out and because the power and volume are on the side not the back

I also have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9.I downloaded latest update.bin file (8.4.9) from Amazon and updated my Kindle and later rooted it using the manual method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117 thread. It was total success. Just don't miss a single step from that (MANUAL) method.
One thing is confirmed here, KFFirstAid can easily install Google Play after 8.4.9 update and the above mentioned manual method can root it successfully. I am not sure about automatic method though.
If there is any confusion in following the steps you can ask.

I used some German guy's walkthrough here: http://www.dreamcodes.biz/text/?id=2152&s=read
The main problem was (as before): Not seeing the Kindle in adb devices. Don't ask what I did to finally get there after about 5 hours of trying every option under the sun and googling half the Inet. I installed way more drivers than recommended, especially google ones.
Install everything in c:\username\androidfilename; make sure the path is in system properties, constant testing (adb devices), making sure I have an adb_usb.ini with a 0x1949 in it, and the actual Amazon Kindle drivers are installed (I had to do that manually). Only when the Kindle was found I moved on to root and was successful first time. One happy camper here for sure.
Thanks Red for trying to help a blonde gal! Much appreciated!
So........... what am I going to do with my Kindle now?! :victory:

OK, the post you are talking about in German is post no 744 on page no 75, you need to go to page no 1 of that (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117&page=75) thread. Follow upto Root Step 9 (adding path variable) than use manual method to root. The main problem every one is likely to face is getting adb communication working so first assure that. Read a lot, clear every doubt. There may be some steps which can be confusing but I can help you in their clarification. I now have CM11 installed on my Kindle 8.9.
One thing for sure success DO NOT PROCEED UNTIL EVERYTHING DOES NOT WORK AS ACCEPTED IN THE METHOD.

my first gen fire tv box, I root it by kingroot, everything works fine. but after I use super me to get super su, resatart. then the box stacks at amazon splash start screen. Anybody can give any idea how to hardware reset? help :crying:
I do not want to give you a hard time but why you guys do not read before doing it. There are few post here mentioning that boxes get bricked if you use supersu-me. Can you connect to it through adb? The only way to get it back if somehow rbox will release an unbrick image as he did for firetv 2

READ ME!
If you read the Kingroot thread on this forum, located here. You will find that the authors of Kingroot have taken exception to the author of SuperSu and anyone else who uses it in their programs to replace Kinguser, because of the claims of conflicting programs and/or malicious coding. Kingroot authors counter claim that programs like Super-Sume improperly remove Kingroot leaving orphaned files which may cause problems. But the author of Super-Sume says his program will not brick your device.
Most people have had no luck installing SuperSu on their devices after being rooted by Kingroot even though Kingroot authors claim they could co-exist on the same device, because Kingroot has added a restriction regarding SuperSu. So consequently those who have gotten SuperSu installed on their Kingroot rooted devices have ended up with problems.
Don't install random stuff via root without custom recovery! Its just as effective as a pull and pray people. You need some protection.
Just be patient!!

There's many ways to force it into recovery, but there's not much you can do from there.
You could follow the hardware rooting instructions to get access to the flash chip, and then rewrite the system.img... but that's about it.

You could follow the hardware rooting instructions to get access to the flash chip, and then rewrite the system.img... but that's about it.

@AFTVnews.com has posted the update url for 5.0.5 for firetv1. You just need to run sdat2img on it to get the full system.img.

Can't really walk you through this. But you could wait until I post the prerooted rom for firetv1. And extract the system.img from that.

Thanks, I will wait for your rom and use aftvnew post the unbrick way to do factory reset.
looks like the usb keyboard could not make it get into factory reset area.
Same problem here. used SuperSU me and now the box is stuck on Firetv logo.. It looks like emmc soldering is the only way which is pretty scary and possibly not worth the hassle... Did you get any further with recovering?

no way to solve it. bought another brand tv box.
I will try a emmc hardware root to revive the box. I hope rbox will release a bootloader for firetv gen 1 soon

If your bootloader isn't already unlocked and you bricked a FireTV 1, there isn't anything that can be done from a software perspective.
i was hoping to dd system.img through hardware emmc soldering. do you think this could work to revive it?
