[Q] Galaxy Note 8 power on by itself - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

about a week ago, I flashed CivZ-SpherEngine-REV2.0 kernel on top of stock (Indonesia) rooted 4.2.2 N5100, and it's nice. but since then, my note 8 always turn on by itself (from completely power off to on) after few hours since I shut down it.
this is so weird. nobody touch it and it can turn on by itself, from off.
is it related to this kernel? or anything else? please help.

Mine too. I don't know how long it has been doing this but it explains why it ALWAYS seems to be on. On my 5110 Im running CivZ Flexbeam ROM 3.6.2 with the included spehere extreme kernel. Did changing kernels clear up the issue for you?
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk

The device does power on when USB charging is plugged in. But it is not a full startup, just the basic function of charging and data connect.
As for starting up from being off without any USB connect or disconnect would be a hardware issue. Possible from lack of flushing cache and formatting partition before a new modded firmware is installed. As the hardware function to power on / off may be setting a false detect to power on or off.
If it works proper with OEM firmware the issue is how you flashed or the flashed firmware used. Also another issue is restoring from backup. System data and settings may effect custom firmware when restoring.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus: Android 4.3 Update phone not charging

Hi There
I recently updated to Android 4.3 and ever since then my phone isn't charging anymore. When I connect it to my PC it is connected as an "unknown device". At first it was charging when turned off, but know even that doesn't work.
I had clockworkmod installed, but since the update I only get the "No command." message and the standard Android system recovery.
I'd like to get my phone connected to my PC again somehow, so I can downgrade to 4.2.2 again.
Anyone has the same problem / suggestions on how to solve this?
Thanks!
Phone: Galaxy Nexus I9250 (maguro)

Hi, I've got the exact same problem on my Galaxy Nexus, and I can't find any solution yet, I've a couple of things that did not work at all.
Now I've got the charging anim on the screen when my phone is switched off but even then, it seems I can't get it charged more then 8%
Really don't know what to do here

Can you check if you still have root? If you still have root, you can flash another recovery using Mobile Odin.

Yeah I want to flash back to 4.2 or CM. The problem is I can't since my PC doesn't recognize my device. I tried different drivers but it just pops up as "unknown device" in the device manager.
Can anyone tell me how to downgrade i am a noob currently on stock 4.3

After hours of flashing rooting unrooting it finally works but i really don't know how.
At first my phone wasnt anymore recognized by my PC, after playing around with checking unchecking debuging mode, and uninstalling drivers and installing drivers from the NEXUS ROOT TOOLKIT, it came back on my PC screen.
-first i downgraded to 4.2.2 (using nexus root tollkit), it did not change anything
-then got back on 4.3 with OTA, still same problem
-then tried unlocking rooting and flashing cyanmogen mod, still same problem
-Finally i flashed stock 4.3, unrooted and locked, and now everything works perfectly...I really dont know how but now its all good, also it looked like Avast and Nova launcher were not doing too well with 4.3 so i uninstalled them and really saw a difference afterwards
I hope this may help someone

[Q] [Help] How to fix SGT 3 10.1 (WiFi) not turning on

Hey guys, My Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 (Wifi) Won't turn on anymore. Don't even charge! My brother was playing minecraft until my Tablet's life reach 0% (Died). Then I charged it, It's still charging after 30 mins of charging I turned it on then the SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 3 logo appear (Start-Up) but it fails like it shutted down. I tried charging it again but it wont charge anymore nor turn on, I'm not using any ROM but i rooted my SGT 3 10.1
Anyone knows how to fix this? Please help asap!
Try different charger, usb cable, leave it for a while then try charging it, plug it into computer usb port or plug out sd card then try

Okay, Gonna try those now and hope something will fixed this. I'll reply if it works or not soon
Edit :
Be right back in 2 hours to check everything.
Edit Again :
My Tablet is fixed now, Thanks dude.
What I did is stopped charging for 10 minutes then i charged it using PC/Laptop then waited 1 hour, then charge it on normal then it started to charge and turned on. but again, stuck on SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 3 logo then shut down....
None of those works. Any other idea?
I would do the process over again. But do not start the tablet. See if you can get into recovery mode (Vol+ / Power) or download mode (Vol- / Power). If that is successful then leave it there for awhile. Power off and try again. If good, then I would reload the OEM Rom or a backup that you may have. But I would not try powering the unit again. There might be a corrupt file caused by the initial improper shutdown.
It got even Worse, I tried to do the process again but it DOESNT turn on or Charge anymore. I waited 1 hour then charge, still, charge 2 hours, still. What to do now? Theres no helper here on our village except me so please help me
If your device is not charging then I wonder if it is the charger and not the device. I don't think the battery could go bad that fast. I could be wrong, but I don't think. So that leads me to believe that your charger possibly is not working like Ripshock mentioned.
Is the charger the OEM that came with the Tablet?
If not, can it produce 5vdc @ 2 amps?
What about the USB cable, is it OEM that came with the Tablet?
If not, is it wired correctly and can it handle 2 amps?
Regardless of how you answered the questions, I would seek another source for charging. I don't think the PC will charge. I don't believe the USP ports are setup to handle that much current. I could be wrong, but again, you might seek out another source for charging.
UPC won't charge tab. It has to be plugged into an eletrical outlet

As I suspected, but I thought I read somewhere that the PC can be setup to do just that on the USB port. Key phrase is "thought I read".
Nah. For some reason the tablet can't charge and transmit data through the cable at the same time unlike our phones and other devices. Personally i think it's stupid that it won't charge but hey that's how they were made lol. I use a very good cable too.

Well, I have been to this situation more than once (Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, which are both family tablets). Do a "force boot"
Steps:
1.) Leave it there for, like, 4 hours or while it is charging do step 2.
2.) Now, press the power, volume up, volume down and home button together, until the it boots up completely
3.) Charge the tablet again..
Easy as that.. If that does not work, remove the battery inside (You need to have proper tools and a hand that can search youtube)
or, even if that does not work, your brother may have screwed something up (Either by dirty flashing another ROM or by doing some dangerous system modifications).. Your last hope is the repair shop (If you have warranty, send it back to a SAMSUNG REPAIR SHOP and act dumb, they will fix it for you, free of charge.)
I am not 100% sure here, but I don't think pressing the home key while using the power and vol keys will do anything. I believe that to be a process found on some of the other Samsung devices, but not the P5210. I personally have not tried it and I really don't want too knowing right now that my machine is working just fine. Would hate to do something that I cannot reverse.

Yep, I did those steps. and it's turning on now. but i cant start it up. When I open it, it goes to TWRP mode. This happens when I wipe all my phone cache, dalvik, etc (everything) then when i restarted the system it says "no OS installed, still continue?" I choose yes, then it said "your tablet's root could be corrupted, want to install a fresh new one?" I choose yes then my tablet restarts but on TWRP again, I install a rom named Pimpdroid then restarted the tablet, still the same (Always go to TWRP mode even i'm not press power+up volume+home bottom together) Just the power button but it goes to TWRP mode, i tried installing other roms but its still the same. If you can't understand properly due to my poor english. I can make a video on it if u r willing to help me. I really need help guys since theres no repair shop here its just an island!
Does anyone experienced this problem already? or does anyone knows how to fix this problem? Help me please

When it asked to reinstall the root, say NO. Then power off the unit. Do not try and run the tab at this time. There is no OS. Start the tab in download mode. Connect to PC and start ODIN. Load the OEM Rom. This is the only way to get things back to normal unless you have saved a backup. If you have a back up, then start the tab in recovery mode (TWRP/CWM) and restore from backup.
I would recommend NOT installing Pimpdroid or any other rom until you have a fully operational tablet again. Best to always start from a fresh OEM Rom.
What is OEM Rom? and where can I download it?
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacture
OEM Rom is the firmware that was developed by Samsung and is the only official Rom for your device. All the other roms that are developed here are done so with caveats placed on them. Mainly that the roms can damage your device or brick it (cause it to fail completely).
Original firmware (OEM Rom) can be found here. In the search window just enter the model number of the device you have. In this case that would be P5210. It will take several hours to download the rom as it is huge, on the order of 1.9GB. Just be patient. It is always a good idea to have the OEM Rom safely tucked away on you computer for situations like this.

It's just like a rom? after downloading ill just install it like other roms?
and, Which country firmware should I download? There are tons of Country but the same rom
You will download the version for your country. I have no information about your whereabout. So you will have to find the rom for your country or region of the world.
You will need to extract the MD5 file from the zip and place it on your computer. Once extracted, you will open ODIN and load the MD5 file into the PDA slot and upload it to your device. Don't worry about the SS_DLL file. It will take some time to load into ODIN and then some time to load into your device. Do not stop the upload or interrupt. Once loaded, you will then restart your device and configure it like it was brand new out of the box.
The standard recovery will be loaded also. If you desire to load TWRP or CWM, you can if you want. You can also root the device. But I would not recommend loading any of the other roms until you get a better understand of what that rom does and how to load it. There are many posts on XDA that tell you how to load an OEM (stock) Rom. Just do a search for them. No need to be redundant here.
Just be careful.

Well, This is pretty weird. There's no Philippines (Which is my country) OEM rom and on the Tablet, it wont go to Recovery mode or Download mode. because when I charge my tablet it automatically opens then go to TWRP. When i turned it off it goes to normal charging. Then when I try to open it using this (Power button+volume up+ Home) it still goes to TWRP mode. How to fix this?

[Q] Wierd Note 2 Problem

I am using Note 2 since 1 and half year without any problems. Till date I have flashed many custom ROM's without any issues. Since yesterday my phone started acting weird. It boots up and within 10-15 seconds after system has started, it reboots. The process repeats like a loop and the phone is literally unusable. I was using Phoenix v18.8 ROM. I tried the following things
1) Formatted the phone completely and reinstalled ROM
2) Tried changing kernel to Nadia and Agni
3) Tried a different ROM to DN3 V5.2
4) Flashed official ND3 firmware through Odin.
5) Removed external sd-card
None of these have solved my problem. The only way I can get my phone to work is if i connect the phone using USB cable to my PC as soon as phone starts. Then again if i restart my phone the same thing happens.
So, is my phone dead ? Is there anything that I can do ?
Please help. Thanks

Have you tried a new battery? A bad battery also can cause strange reboots.

Try to plug your charger and see if restart stops. If your phone works then it's your battery. ..
Edit : is your battery charging?

Yes my phone is charging normally. And yes I have two batteries and tested with both. The problem persists.
The question is why your phone starts with USB connected ? That's where the solution could come .
If plug your charger the phone works/starts or only with USB connected starts?

[Q] Battery problems

Hello,
I have problems with my samsung galaxy s3 I747M running 4.1.2 rooted battery. It's the original battery that came with the phone. I broke the original cord that came with the cellphone but still have the wall adapter so i was using a micro usb cable that was laying around in my house for about 3-4 days. I had no problems. Yesterday i went to sleep with the battery still at 40% and i shut the phone down. In the morning, when i tried turning it on it wasn't, so i plugged the charger and turned it on to see the battery was empty. I then went back to bed and two hours later it only charged to 31% and the phone was VERY VERY VERY HOT, the battery was not as hot as the phone was and there is no bulge on it. Ever since while tyring to charge my phone, it gets extremly hot and it charges slowly. When i turn it off and remove the battery then let it cool down and put the battery back it the % changes. For instance, 21% becomes 10%, 41% becomes 34% etc.
I tried using a different cable and a different wall adapter, i used my dad's samsung cellphone (flip phone) charger cable and outlet (which is a 5V 0.7A output).
Is the battery dead or is my cellphone dead? Problems started happening right after I updated xposed framework to the latest beta and updated keepchat and installed xprivacy. I uninstalled xposed framework and the problem is still there. I charged the phone to 34% just now and it lost 5% in about 5 minutes while being idle.
Charging via USB instead of a power outlet leads to slow charging and very hot cellphone too.
The phone is also a little bit hot when i put it against my cheeks when it is turned off.
Here is a screenshot of the very odd battery graph i have...
Looks like your battery is probably dead....but just to be sure why don't you flash back to stock firmware and see if that helps

I think I will avoid flashing stock firmware since the battery acts very oddly and I don't want to take the chance of it dying in the middle of a flash. I will go buy a new one tomorrow and check if it was the problem. What else could cause this problem if the battery turns out to be good?
Bad connection maybe

Did you factory reset?
Flashing stock might actually be your best bet atm. While it can be scary to flash with a *maybe* faulty battery, if it's plugged, it should be fine.

How can i flash back to stock without using ODIN on computer? The only cable I have for my phone does not transfer files.
You can use mobile odin. But only use that to flash the same firmware build as you have now, just to be safe.
If that doesnt help, getting a samsung S3 cable is the next logical step. They're pretty cheap online these days.
Id probably get the cable anyway if you can. This way you can fladh using Odin. Mobile Odin will flash the firmware, but only parts of it. So by getting the cable and using Pc odin you can flash the full firmware. Up to you how you want to proceed there, but if mobile odin doesnt solve the problem, you'll still have to question if a full firmware flash might help.
Hope that made sense!

I am going to purchase a cable tomorrow and flash stock using Odin and see if it fixed the problem. If it didn't i'll root, reset my recovery to stock, reset flash counter and reflash stock. If I go see my carrier (Koodo) and ask them to send it to samsung, do I have good chances of getting it fixed/getting a replacement?

It should be fine. I sent my S3 a month ago and they fixed it, they only briefly check if you have rooted or not, they don't check for flash counter or something like that. As long as you are in warranty, they should fix it for free.
I just ran triangle away and then used odin to flash stock and when I open my phone in download mode it shows CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD : YES (1 counts). Do I have to re-root and re-run triangle away then re-flash stock?
Maybe. Try rooting using Towelroot. Not sure if it'll work on older firmware though. If it does, install SuperSU from the play store, open it and update the binary. Now triangle away. Next choose full unroot from the SuperSU. Done.

I flashed a stock root injected 4.1.2 rom on my cellphone, ran triangle away and it worked, my phone now shows official on the download mode screen ans no custom binary download. Can I safely send it to samsung now? I just reflashed the stock rom to remove root.
Should be fine.
Just got my phone back from samsung, they changed the faulty motherboard and my phone now works fine. The battery is not in good shape tho, the 0-1% charges while the phone was broken must've killed it. I'm going to buy a new one.
On a side note, is there any root methods that don't trip flash/KNOX counter for android 4.4.2? They updated me.

GT-N5100 not charging

Sorry guys, noob here.
Started with the USB not being promptly recognized by my PC, but after some reconnections it worked.
So, one day ago, I installed TWRP via heimdall suite and flashed the last stable Cyanogenmod 12.1 for GT-N5100, following all the instructions. For my surprise, the tablet doesn't charge with any type of source. Tried lots of cables and adapters and nothing.
I returned to stock ROM, 4.4.2, but the same problem remains.
What I found is that somehow it start recharging when plugged for some time, but only some few %, and the tablet is readily recognized via USB when on download mode. So, it's not a hardware issue.
Someone, please help me.

I think you have system corruption from kernels. I have experienced various issues around power with the note 8.0... all of which were from various kernel loads effecting low level device operation. Unfortunately there is no reset button or easy access to clean out the corruption.
You can remove the battery connection and wait a few minutes. Then connect and go into download mode and flash a stock rom. Then boot to setup and finalize your installation. Check and see if it will charge and properly function with power off and reboot options from the power menu.
If so flash a recovery, and wipe completly and flash your ROM of choice. If you choose a custom kernel outside of the ROM package, that may be done on top of the ROM load, to assist in a clean and trouble free ROM install.

Tried exactly what you said: Opened it, removed the battery for a while, flashed the stock rom via Odin and factory reseted. Nothing changes.
Doesn't charge anyway. It's recognized when in download mode, though.
With 16% battery right now. If it drop to 0%, that means gameover? Or can i charge while on download mode (odin mode)?
Can't I flash TWRP and then install a custom kernel from there?
Thanks, dude.
I use Philz Recovery, as had issues with TWRP long ago and gave up once I tried Philz.
I would have done a full wipe and reset in philz.
You can charge in Philz and in Download mode, once you are able to get the phone to reset the power mode by the kernel flash.
One thing I think may be your issue... the USB connector may be bad. All you need is the voltage pin to go bad. Data will operate without voltage for powering the device.
Removing the USB board and lightly compress the top and bottom of the connectors frame, so that your cable end fits snug. Had to do that a few years ago when a cable end stretched it out after a few uses. Did not go back to using it again once I corrected the fit issue.

Tried also, without response.
It really doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.
Right now I plugged into the charger and there you go: Charging!!
I don't know what I did different, but it's working, at least for a while. Probably it will not fully charge, but ok.
I remembered that, prior to flashing TWRP+CM12.1, I got constant pop-ups about Power Sharing. Reading some forums, some guys experienced the same problem with this feature and them their phones stopped charging. Some reported that a factory reset solved, which is not my case.
I will keep posting what I did and if I find something that solves, it may help someone who's stuck with the same error.
Anyway, thanks so much, gooberdude.
(And sorry for my lame grammar.. writing is much harder than reading and listening english)

Hello
My N5100 faces the same problem of charging as this thread.
Could you put in details about your status of N5100
- Your regional model: Ex: EU, America, Asia....?
- Your Tab is working fine until today, doesnt it?
- If it's working fine , what was ROM you are using currently?
- What did Recovery you use to flash ROM?
Thank you so much
Hello my tab has a charging problem too it started with not being recognised when I plug to my computer. When I plug to a power source it charges sometimes other times it just doesn't and I'm certain the charger isn't the problem
