I'm starting to think it's the phone itself, because none of my camera apps can focus, or attempt to focus...
Maybe it's seeing a smudge or blemish on the glass that you can't see and so it always stays focused on that. Just a thought.

IDK what it was, but I got the entire camera replaced at a repair shop for $40. Thanks though.

Hi All,
What do you think I should do?
You can see this black spot on my camera...
Hmm i guess that bitten apple causes this
Just kidding. It is probably a hardware fault so the only thing you can do is to send it back to htc

Looks like something has got underneath the lens cover, unless it is on the lens cover, but I'm sure you already checked that. Unfortunately back to HTC is the only real solution if it is under the lens cover.
hi every1,
i have had this phone for over a month...but jus today i realised i have scratced my camera lens screen...is it a normal thing????n how to protect it in future...
Thanks to all in advance!!!!
To the op, there are various threads related to this already. Scratches will happen unfortunately. I suggest a screen cover or case if you want extra protection.
Btw, come on you baggies!

Yup, perfectly normal. The camera enclosure was very poorly designed. You'll need to get a case that has a lens protector or make your own I'm afraid. Mines pretty damn scratched already, I've started resting it on the edge of things so that the camera part hangs over the edge and isn't touching anything. Far and away the most irritating thing about this phone!
Get a cover or cover it with some scotch tape
rock is selling screen protector that comes with camera protection
I wonder why don't they just put Gorilla glass on the camera window. All my previous phones always met with this problem however hard I try to protect the camera. Even ones with a camera window cover (e.g. the Nokia N95 8GB from a long time ago), because the cover itself also becomes the source of scratch.
Are the scratches visible in the pics? Cause as long as its not, affecting the quality of the pic I don't care. Also mine had a nasty scratch but its not on the center of the lens

not really.i mean i haven't noticed any change in the quality of the pics...so i think its better to get it protected before it starts messing around the pic quality!!!!

When u say protected you mean case or screen shield. Cause the 2nd one is fading the pictures

I broke the glass that covers the back phone. After that, the comers could no longer focus.
I thought replacing the glass cover would fix the problem. I got a new cover but the camera still won't focus. The view is blurry.
Any idea what might be wrong or how to fix it?

I think the camera module itself may have been accidentally adjusted when you were replacing the glass. The internal lens of the camera module should be "rotatable" to a certain extent then glued to position from the factory. The auto-focus would then do the fine-tuning.

I'm having the same exact problem. Any fixes?
I dropped my S3 in the toilet and it's fried, so I never got a chance to try and fix this. Good luck to those who stumble on this!
I've Just upgraded to the HTC One m8 last week from a HTC One x, loving it so far :good:
One thing I wondered was what type of glass is the rear camera lenses made from, don't suppose it's gorilla glass at last is it?
all it takes is a tiny scratch on it in the middle and that's the end of good photos, every mobile with a camera i've had to date has ended up with poor photo quality due to scratches.
I wish they fitted a metal shutter to cover it really, but gorilla glass like used on the front screen would help i bet.
I can't find any info on what type of glass it is, I was wondering myself. I just cut out a small piece of plastic and set it between the case and the phone to cover the lenses.
It hasn't affected picture quality that I've noticed. But if it ever gets scratch I can just change out the piece of plastic.
I don't see why HTC would put such a big circle for a small camera lens.

yeah i wondered that to, It's placed where my fingers go each time i pull it out my pocket to, the lens just gets finger prints all over it.
I was looking at all the cases to see if any have a shutter to close over it but no luck so far.

Wouldn't that be to capture more light in the lens ?

Just get a cheap screen protector a cut out a circle ?
But then agian, the glass is recessed in the housing i don't see how you would scratch it like that in the first place
My problem is exactly what's written in the title. I don't know what happened but all of a sudden the rear camera stopped focusing all together! Goes without saying that I'm pretty upset about it. I did do some mods to the camera that I found here, 1080 60 FPS mod. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. It was working perfectly for a week after.
Is there any way to know for sure if it's hardware or software related? I tried restoring from LG Back-up to a time when the camera worked but that didn't fix it. I'm not sure LG Back-up saves anything related to the camera besides maybe the apk. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I want my camera working again so bad!!

Have you tried going into manual mode and adjusting the focus? Just wondering if manual focus has any affect at all, even if it isn't focusing properly.

Yeah I tried and it doesn't seem to do anything. I also noticed my front camera doesn't focus either. I can't remember if it ever did though. Can you check to see if yours does? When I tap to focus the front camera I see a blue box on the screen but it never turns green or changes focus. Front pictures seem to be more or less in focus though.
Sent from my VS986
The fact that the front camera doesn't focus either makes me think it's more software related than hardware. I might try doing a factory reset and seeing what happens.
Sent from my VS986
there's no focus in front camera just a blue box, also it may be stupid but check if the lens is clean, a smudge on the lens can cause the cam to lose focus

You're correct. I checked on my G2 and found it does the same thing. Just a blue box. Well back to thinking it might be hardware. I ordered a new rear camera module. Hopefully that fixes it. I did drop my phone before I started having this problem so maybe I damaged the camera, even though everything else seems to be fine.

Replaced the rear camera today. Found a stock replacement on Ebay for $13.95USD. I'd like to comment on how easy it is to replace parts in this phone! I love it! Compared to the G2, with its multiple boards, antenna wires, and already stressed ribbon cables, this job was a breath of fresh air!
Anyway everything is working perfectly now! So mods can delete this post to avoid clutter or you can leave it as a warning maybe? I dropped my phone from a height of probably 15 inches, even with no visible external damage (thanks to bumper case), the camera was damaged.

Good to know there so cheap. Mine got purple tint. Was thinking of getting new module

Thats more to do with lighting and wb mismatch. see this post on the subject. Magenta is not a hardware problem.

Yes I swapped it out with a new phone. Definitely a hardware problem with the crappy refurbished replacement.

Definitely a selling point that isn't mentioned very often. Strip and reassemble within ten minutes
update after installation?

Did you have to update any software after installing the new camera? I'm having the same issue with the camera focusing after a drop but when I installed the new camera the phone wouldn't recognize it...
Had to reinstall the faulty camera again.. I'm not sure if the site I bought the replacement part from sent me a bad part or if there's a step I missed.
I had the focus problem, on the back camera only when in landscape mode...strange right? I tried literally everything to solve a possible software issue with no luck...how did I finally solved it? Replacing camera module. Look no further..

hey there! I'm having a very similar situation, where did you get the camera module from? can you please share the details, seller, prices, model, etc?
Thank you
Wow this is pretty old! I found the module on eBay.
