I was excited but doubtful when I found a reference to USB2Go. Since the adapters were cheap, I purchased one and, indeed, it does not seem to work on Fire2. OTOH, while exploring I found a folder named ext_SDCard. So, is there any hope that USB2GO might be made to work by some hack?

I can't post in the dev forum, where this question probably belongs.
I think @Hashcode removed the complete USB otg stack from the kernel. So all otg functions should be disabled in cm10.1 and up as well as all the roms that are based on cm

Ah, I was afraid of something like that. Thanks.

Is there any chance to make USB Host for wildfire?
I guess not, as USB-Hosts have a different hardware than simple ports.
I heard somewhere that msm 7227 chip supports that feature. But wildfire has msm 7225 and haven't heard that it supports.
And hardware support along with required kernel is needed I think.

AIR a guy made a circuit and gave the USB-Host to unsupported devices. I may remember wrong.
USB Host again
Hi all,
searching through the forum I found this thread and I very much like to raise the debate again. I am not fully convinced that USB-Host may not work at all on Wildfire.
On the hardware-side: can you completely say that the hardware might not support it at all? Many forum threads (not only on XDA) showed ambiguous signals concerning the chipsets.
On the software-side: The official point is the following:
[I wanted to post a link but was not allowed because I do not have 8posts yet. Type in google: "android developer usb host" and it will lead you to the official page]
So from Android 3.1 and higher USB-Host is supported.
As the development for the ICS (Android 4) mods (CG9 etc.) for wildfire is advancing, I am playing with the idea of trying the beta versions to see whether USB host works.
It would be really helpful to hear the ideas of advanced people on this issue. Can you exclude the hardware-capability? Are the e.g. CM9 mods not made for things like USB-Host?
Currently I unrooted my Wildfire and am trying to get things started for flashing it. So yes, quite a noob.
Thanks a lot and kind regards,
Nebi
Ok, I tried the newest version of CM9 'AOSP Based "Original Development" / Source Built ROMs' by arco68.
Unfortunately my wildfire is not reacting when I put in a usb-stick connected to an adapter USB-A (female) to USB-B (male) adapter.
Am I doing sth wrong? Do I need an USB-hub to power 5volt?
Thanks and kind regards,
Nebi
Ok sorry for writing again. My last post today - promise.
On the hardware-side I found out following:
As I still cannot post any links here:
qualcomm.com/chipsets/snapdragon
You can also click on that site on the link below with more detailed specs.
USB OTG is only supported from Snapdragon Generation 3 on. Wildfire (MSM7225) is Generation 1.
I was also egg-headed and still tried another software, too:
I tried the AOSP Based Derivative MIUI V4 Beta1 bystelios97.
He doesnt reckognize anything.
A last thing: I think that in any case the adapter that I am using is wrong. Instead of using a USB-A to USB-Micro adapter you better need a USB-OTG cable to connect both devices.
Game over I guess?
just got a chance to try out a USB OTG cable. my current setup well not allow me to explore files on my flash drive. I know the flash drive and cable is good because I plugged the same setup into a friend's SGS3 and it worked right away.
the question is, is this more likely a problem with my kernel or my ROM?

ok, fair enough. the ROM is an alpha that is not released to Toroplus yet. the kernel is tuna faux123. the problem is when I plug in my thumbdrive I am unable to explore files. I even installed Stickmount from the market. it tries to mount the drive, to no avail.

so, besides the troll who popped in to flame me, does anyone have an idea about this? i am not looking for specifics, just a general idea about if USB OTG is controlled more by the ROM or more by kernel choice.
USB OTG is controlled by you. Just plug the cable. You're doing it wrong.
Now, that's me just trolling too.
Either way, maybe you can help me on one thing here. I have a 2005 Accord diesel. Can I use an oil filter from the 2007 facelift version?

So simple. You ask the questions, then give the answers.
It's because of your alpha rom? Maybe. Try another.
It's because of the kernel? Try another.
See? Simple. No one can go to your place and do that for you. Test, test, test.
C'mon guys...he just wants to know if anyone has used it successfully...if you can't answer why post?
Too specific problem. User should try other setups and give feedback. Be proactive, people.

just because you didn't know the answer, doesn't make it a flawed question. it wasn't too specific, it didn't require testing. someone out there smarter than both of us probably knew the answer. is the USB OTG function controlled by ROM or the kernel? instead of an answer i got my thread clogged with your smartass comments and non-answers. i'm sure if there's an opening in the question police squad on XDA you'll be the first to apply, but until then your self appointed opinion on the validity of questions in the Q&A thread isnt appreciated or needed. not by me anyway.

Hey noob, i'm not trolling. You asked which was more likely. I said maybe both, because it is!
Kernel because of fs support, rom because of vold and enforced permissions. Now go search and learn.

Could you suggest some posts with methods that will work for KF2? I am beginner and sometimes do not really understand what the post is talking about. Thanks.

Let's get down to the cold, hard truth for a moment.
As a "beginner", you should not be trying to modify second generation Kindle Fires like the KF2. They are very sensitive. One slight misstep can leave you with something that is (slightly) less functional than a doorstop. You will probably not find a single tutorial that will teach you everything you need to know, so you need to ask yourself...what do you actually know? Do you know how to use the command line efficiently. Do you understand basic commands for navigating your way through your directory hierarchy? Are you familiar with ADB? Do you have it installed? Is it connected? Are you familiar with its commands and what they do? If you answered "no" to any of these, then you should probably begin there rather than diving head first into something that is considerably more advanced.
Once you have a basic foundation to work with, start reading threads in your device's General and Q&A forums. If you find something you don't understand, search for an answer to that problem. You continue with this process until you feel you have reached a dead end and cannot continue forward....then start a thread (or find one similar) and ask your question.
There is way too much information to be learned than can fit in a simple step-by-step response to your question, and if you think you can rely on such a condensed version of what you need to know, then the best of luck to you, because you will probably be joining the ranks of many others who have done exactly the same and failed miserably.

Samsung has been really lazy with their updates recently. While they did manage to update the SM-P600 Note, they forgot about all other ones.
Is it really that hard to make the update, considering it already exists on the Snapdragon Note 3 and Note Pro, which have nearly identical internals?
Is it really that hard to post it in the right section? At the moment there is nearly everyday a new thread which asks when kitkat will be available...
You have to be patient.

Thank you. No one knew beforehand that the Colombian Wi-Fi version would be the first to get updated nor that the U.S. would follow. So it's safe to assume no one here knows when the 3G and LTE versions are getting updated nor which regions are going to receive it in which order. You'd assume if they did they'd post it without having to be asked. And if someone did post a date they'd be attacked unless they provided some sort of proof backing up their comments. Samsung's updates don't follow any set pattern so the past won't predict the future either. More 4.4 updates will be deployed when they're deployed.
Good God ,,I have never heard so much crying about a update before in my life...Then when they install it..they will be crying again about the bugs..Lol.

And people like me that say what is the point? No apparent battery savings (perhaps opposite) and sd card write restrictions are key reasons to avoid it. SD card issue is reason enough for me.
After making a few tweaks, I am content with the device as it is. No need to rock the boat and also lose sd card write permissions.

I don't quite understand why you have quoted me, I just wanted to say that people should use the search function before creating new useless (already discussed) threads.
I can understand you that you are not willing to take the update because it brings problems with it.
But the OP did not took his time to read a few threads or use the search function which should be priority no.1 before opening a thread. And this happens like everyday.
But here is the quick little research the OP should have done:
Looks Like P605 KitKat Is Almost Here
Where is Kitkat for SM-P605?
LTE version will receive 4.4?
I am going to report this thread because we all have enough device specific KitKat Update threads.

Hello everybody !!!
I've just buy the Nokia XL, and i'm happy on it for the price!
I've checked in the threads, but on these lot of page, i hadn't seen anything on it... Or i hadn't look right...
In my opinion, that will be good to have otg support...
So, that's my question.
Is it possible to implement USB OTG support in a kernel/ROM?
Or just tell me how to do, and i will try to do it...
I had just port few MTK's roms, and compile 1 or 2 MTK's kernels (not really ok, that's not the same thing than porting) but i can do it with the good informations...
Many Thanks
PS: Sorry if i'm in the wrong section. There's a lot of time i hadn't post on XDA Forum (Since my LG-P920)

First, thanks for our reply !
I use OTG Helper too, and the 1st time it said that don't works, but after a new try, it installed an xml, and tell me that an another one is not here...
You know it check 2 xml files... The 1st is not here, but it has installed the 2nd... So, that's why i'm asking this question...
I'm on Cm11 with my XL, and i don't know if its possible too...
PS: If you search on google "MSM8625+usb otg" you will see that Sanei's phone have otg cables so i think that's can be possible... And some cable are in selling for and any internet's site, like this one....
