Playing with my phone today, I flashed Newtoboot's GPE ROM, then restored to BoneStock. Then, I flashed CM10.2...but restored back to BoneStock. I took the SIM card out to play with my Galaxy Nexus for a bit, put it back in my HTC One, and now I can't seem to keep 4G -- regardless of the ROM. I will initially get 4G after booting or toggling airplane mode, but then I'll lose it...and it won't go back to 4G, even when in coverage that my coworkers or wife get 4G (all on Verizon, but using Android and iOS).
Do I need to RUU back to stock to clear something hosed in the radio, or is there a simpler fix?
Went the RUU route. Even went back to full stock. And she still won't hold onto 4G. Usually loses it after about 5 minutes, never to get it back.
Time for a new SIM card?? I'm not locked and S-On, so I guess I could go into Verizon and complain...
Duplicate.
Hmmm...my old Galaxy Nexus seems to have no trouble holding onto 4G using the same SIM card...
NOW WHAT??
I don't know how, and I don't know WHY, but a new SIM card seems to have been the answer (so far...). My lesson learned? Stay away from GPE (and maybe AOSP roms). Somehow, it borked my SIM.

I bought this phone off ebay. I didn't know when I bought it, but it was already rooted. The seller put the stock rom back on the phone. Everything works great but I am stuck in cdma-1xrtt. Have called Alltel and they updated the prl and we reprogrammed the phone. Still could not get the 3G to work. Installed Oxygen rom to see if it would help but there has been no change. I did notice yesterday while running on wifi that the network said cdma evdo. When I turned off wifi, it reverted back to 1xrtt. I havent been able to duplicate this though. Is there anything I can do to get this running. I love the phone but it is about useless without 3g.
Thanks!
Update
Apparently it is not stuck in 1xrtt. I went across town today and got 3g. My wife's hero gets a strong signal at home, I wonder why my desire doesnt.
I'm rooted using Axiom 2.2 and every once in awhile my phone will go from 4g to no signal at all and i didnt move or anything or change networks. It just completely drops and then will come back after 20 seconds if i switch in and out of airplane mode or restart my phone. should i flash the leaked 4.0.3 radios. will that help at all? or any other suggestions?
If you're in the US and on Verizon it's a known issue, something to do with how they've set up LTE which I didn't bother bookmarking. There's several threads on it scattered about.
If not please supply more details of your setup.
yea im in the US on verizon but my friend has the nexus too and his doesnt do that were both hacked with the same exact set up. i know 4g is an issue but im in NYC and i should never be out of 4g and if i am i shouldn't lose 3g and data completely and no txts or calls while its out

My first Nexus did this. Tech support had me go to a store and have them swap out the SIM card...but within the first 5-10 minutes after I left the store, it did it again twice. I went back to the store, they swapped out the phone, and the new Nexus hasn't done it one time since (this was about a week ago).
If, on the other hand, your phone maintains at least a couple of bars of signal but just loses the 3G/4G icon for a while every so often, it could just be Verizon's 4G network acting up. This can cause intermittent data drops, even if you're in a 3G-only area. Give it a day or so, and it should clear up.
thanks kinda what it does where it just goes out and comes back but my speed has never been that slow i always have good download and upload speeds just lose connection every once in awhile. would flashing the 4.0.3 radios help at all?
It's not a faulty phone.. it is just LTE growing pains. Yes you can probably get them to give you a new device, but it isn't necessary.
Also, the newest radios might help.. and if they don't you can always switch back
yea i have 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 on my phone so if 4.0.3 doesnt work i can just flash 4.0.2 and then ill be fine?

In terms of radios and roms, yes you can flash a 4.0.3 rom/radio or a 4.0.2 rom/radio. The trick is just to find which radio works best for you as not every device is the same
Seems like its more of on the Verizon side not really a phone radio issue.
Only problem im having is dropped calls but not short calls seems to only happen at about the 15 min mark on all long phone calls.
I keep a steady data connection at all times
So like as ive said around these threads about my lte never going on...so today i went to att demanded a new sim card...wallaah lte now works...prbly the sim cad wasnt functioning correctly ...buuut lte sometimes goes away ..i restart my phone and there it is again...if it goes away i gotta restart phone to re obtain it...do you guys think its prbly a phone issue...i should try to get a new one through att warranty????
I've noticed lately that my LTE sometimes drops off to 4G when I'm on a call, but goes back to 4G when I start using something data related. I think it used to always stay on LTE, but I can't confirm that. I did have to restart the phone once to get LTE to show up again, but that was only once. It may be a network issue.
If you have constant problems I would continue to ask AT&T about it.
Yea i think its netwonk issues....i couldnt get my phone replaced they said...but lte does work now better it jus goes off and on i think its due to lte not being out completely so it only works if your in the right area...try to get a new sim card...tell them your phone keeps going on edge...thats what i did and the new sim card did help a lot....
LG NITRO-N XDA APP
Me Epic Touch that is using Verizon Towers is constantly dropping signal, I have tried every modem from EK - FD but nothing has seem to help. I tried with Page Plus original Prl which shows roaming and didn't help and also loaded other Prl's that doesn't show roaming all the time that Straight Talk uses, but it does the same thing. I have had many Sprint Phones activated on Verizon side and never had any problems like I am having now and My Cousin has The same phone also which is on Page Plus and his phone behaves the same way. Was wondering if any of you that have this phone and flashed it to Verizon are experiencing the same thing? If anyone has any opinions or could weigh in on what I might be able to try or maybe tweak on this phone that might help I would greatly appreciate thanks. Forgot to mention that I have tried both stock and Ics roms and when signal drops it will have a circle with lone threw it but I don't have to reboot phone signal always come back seconds later but trying to hold a conversation on this phone is bout impossible without 2 dropped calls in a 30 minute period.
Is the phone activated on Verizon or are you just using their towers for some particular reason? Keep in mind there are issues outside of the phone that may affect connectivity - I just had this happen with our local Sprint tower last week. Took a week for Sprint to confirm the problem was the tower and fix it.
If you made a nandroid backup before you changed the prl (witch is what you should do before messing around with anything to do with your phone) flash back to it, see if that helps at all.
HTC Hero -> Epic 4G -> Epic 4G Touch
It is activated on Verizon unlimited plan. I also have a nanroid back up of the stock rom behaved the same way. At first I though it was Page Plus being I never used them and gave them a try instead of always worying about data issues with ST. I let my time run out on Page Plus and and switched to Verizon new 50 unlimited pre-pay but still acts the same way.
Hi all,
I'm sure you've seen a lot of these threads already, but before you burn me to a crisp, I've searched all the forums on here and even googled but haven't seen anyone else on t-mobile with my issue.
I've had my galaxy nexus for a day or so now, and been trying to get it to work on t-mobile. i bought it from lukelebron here on xda and it came loaded with AOKP build 28. I upgraded it to build 33 and flashed radio UGLC1 (i think that's what it is)
now the problem is my phone is in a constant roaming state. the signal bars shows an R no matter where i am. I know for a fact I get pretty good coverage at my house because i had an HD2 and when i was running ICS on it I would have at least 3 bars with the H for HSPA. Now anywhere I go, it's the R. I left my phone overnight and then the data just stopped responding until i rebooted.
also now, i can't send any sms. it fails with a "message not sent" with the exclaimation mark. i tried putting in tmobile's smsc number (encoded) in the *#*#4636#*#* menu and it will not stick. i press refresh and it appears again, but if i exit the menu it's gone.
Sorry this is so long...but can anyone help a brother out?
I'm on Tmobile in Dallas. Have had 2 GNEX phone now, neither of them had any issues with reception. I am also using the UGLC1 radio. Have you tried the stock ROM? I have also heard of some people replacing their SIM cards with a new one from Tmobile. Maybe try that.
I think the best thing to do is just restore it to a factory image first, then go about putting AOKP on it. You can use the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit found under the galaxy nexus android development section to help you.
Download factory images for the galaxy Nexus from here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Thanks for the replies guys.
I flashed the rom from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1616638
it's supposedly a purely stock nandroid. I restored it (however it kept the UGLC1 radio i flashed earlier) and i'm still getting the roaming one.
I think i'll try to fastboot 4.0.2 yakju since i heard that might be better. Contemplating switching out my SIM card (which is over 8 years old so far...still a voicestream SIM) but i've read on here that the SIM won't change anything. Thoughts?
I think you should try switching out the sim. I had data problems with my voicestream sim when I got the sensation 4g. I switched to a new sim and it fixed my problems.
