Did you read the comments? I'm sure if it worked it would be talked about all the time. Maybe it used to work, but sounds very out dated.
Best to leave it alone I'd say. Its not like rooting the way we do is difficult anyway.

[Q] I don't want to sound like a brat, but how close are we to a 1 click root?

Let me start of by saying I'm really grateful for all of the hard work all the devs put in for this big win! But I'm trying to weighout waiting for a 1 click or if I should test my adb skills. You know how it goes. Thanks everybody!
This has already been done with visionary

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if following the very clear and succinct step-by-step instructions worries you too much, I'd question if you should be rooting your phone to begin with. You can mess up a lot on a rooted phone if you don't know what you're doing.

amen to that! but no joke, word for word is hard to mess up. a lot of the things u end up doing is gonna be some word to word stuff, no one click tricks usually. so get comfortable

you got a replacement for your phone because you couldn't take the time to revert on your own and then apply the update? shame on you.
@OP
root is very easy, if you can read and follow directions you will be fine, but what the others say is true, if you are worried then you should either learn up on your sdk tools or not root your phone because i promise you will get a bootloop one day and not know what to do and you will ask us if it is broken and how to fix it(unless you have been doing your reading), and most likely if we tell you how to fix it then you are going to need adb anyways
rooting is really easy if you use the rage method.

Thanks for being a ****, but your anti failed, I upped my ADB to spite you. 3 phones rooted, no problems yet.
It's just my opinion, but I don't think the one-click root method is great for the G2. Unlike the Vibrant there is a step that can brick your phone, and you are best doing that one by hand. Plus, learning ADB will make your life sooooo much easier when you actually do root the phone.
Rooting is just the first step, then you have to do cool stuff to it. Then you need to screw it up, and then you need to fix it. All of that is made much easier or requires ADB.

Haha, so true.

One click root?

Just wondering if there is a one click root for the Desire Z yet. I have the version from singapoore. Thanks.
From what I have seen, there is no definite one-click root solution as of now. Don't bet on this though, as I am not completely sure. The tutorial for gfree is easy though, just a little bit of typing.
BTW, this belongs in the Q&A section (for future reference).
Just use the rage/gfree tutorial found on the CyanogenMod Wiki and stay away from Visionary.
And for future reference, threads like these go in Q&A.
It seems like the closes to one click would be Lyriquidperfection's AMT thing for Windows. From thread posts it seems like it works.

No there isn't...
Use the search...
Read the stickies...
Read some topics...
Many people have gone before you, do not disrespect them by not reading. If you do not read, you will awaken the XDA developers G2/Vision curse on your phone! It will never work again and you will always be stuck on STOCK!!!!
What everybody else said. It took me two full weeks of reading these boards before I felt comfortable enough to root my G2. Just search and read and read and read. Eventually you will get to a point where rooting is as easy as riding a bike. Good luck!

Ok thanks for the replys guys. I did do a search and found all the info on how to flash but just seems like a long process and easy to stuff up. Just wanted to make sure for sure there wasn't a one click solution as I made that mistake with my Desire before getting my Desire Z.
Cheers .

The root process for the DZ should take no longer than 30 minutes. Just use a computer with ADB set up and download everything.

Spend a week planning it and do it in ten minutes (total = 10,090 minutes) or read over the checklist a couple times and do it in a half-hour (total = 60 minutes). Let me think about that.

Did some reading around and came to the conclusion that it was ok as others had flashed from 1.82 versions.
I ended up using the guide here Root AND Downgrade Desire Z/G2(S-OFF/ClockWorkMod)
Had a few headches getting the gold card working but all went well and now its rooted and have installed the CyanogenMod and all going well so far .

[Q] since i have a mac...options?

i got a mac a couple months ago and subsequently discovered the world of rooting/flashing roms/etc. because trying to sort it out on the macpro was above my attention span, i've been doing it on a work comp; but i don't want/need to do that any longer. sooo...
what are my simplest/least expensive options for a machine to use for working on the phone? it would really only be used for that purpose and probably backups/storage.
tablet? inexpensive laptop? hammer and nails?
what ideas have you?
thanks.
moderators: i tried to start the same thread last night as the site went down. i see only the thread title in q&a, but couldn't even reply to it to expand upon my questions. pl delete original thread. thanks.
Basically, a laptop; you COULD use a tablet, just for the internet to download roms, but you can't root, ect WITH it. So getting a cheap windows based laptop would be your cheapest route.
any specific suggestions? are we talking base model what ever at w*mart or something more? i'm a little out of the loop on what i'd need.
You can use your macbook with bootcamp. That's what I do. Read up on bootcamp and save your money

I didn't know if he'd be okay with that. Or you could use it and do linux..but go with windows. I believe you can also root on macs if you are using snow leopard osx; I don't know the requirements for using macs with revolutionary root.

[Q] How to use a local CDMA Network on my EVO 4G

Hey guys. i'm pretty new to the forum and android development so forgive me if i'm posting in the wrong section.
So this i what i want: I want to configure my Evo (sprint) to use a local cdma carrier here. (i moved to NIgeria and theres no sprint coverage whatsoever here!).
Can it be done?
How can it be done?
Thanks a lot for replies:highfive:
Of course it can be done.
Do a search here and basically follow the guides for flashing to boost or cricket.
Your going to need a "donor" for the cdma carrier you want to use. Try an get one thats 3g and that you can find drivers for...
Then flash accordingly. ..like I said, it will be a similar process just the info will be a bit different.
Good luck

Well basically, for each carrier, the phone has some specific identifiers put on it
when you "flash" from one carrier to another, you're essentially just transferring those identifiers from one phone to another, and thats what the (already activated) donor phone does...it gives the phone you WANT to activate the correct identifiers and codes

So its basically like a clone?

Ok, so its basically like i'll be cloning the information off the donor phone in order to activate the EVO? Then that means i'll have to get a phone with the local carrier i want to flash to? will any phone do or do i need a specific type?

Yes, thats exactly what you would be doing. As for the other part, I think its best to get a phone (like a cheap android) that you can easily read the information off of, but dont quote me on this because I've never flashed a phone to any carrier
You might wanna read through this just to get a sense of what it involves

If you can't follow that guide then you shouldn't be trying to carrier flash your device, you're gonna end up losing your NV data and borking the device

[Q] Helping fiance root his Candian/Bell S3 SGH-1747M

The thing is, we weren't even going to root it. I thought that Teamviewer Quicksupport supported all S3's.
I looked and he is running 4.1.1. So...I'm not sure what the big deal is, but no matter what, Quicksupport is not "supported" when we go to the Play Store. If there is a simple fix, I would love this, because he is not tech-savvy and this is why we got this model.
However -
I've only rooted one phone in my life before, when there was only really one way of rooting. It seems I have read that problem abound with these S3 models - more specifically, IMEI may be lost, and choosing exactly which way to root, since there are varying stock kernels.
I see this thread here on the IMEI backup/injection. Am I safe to assume, that is where I start? (I have read that the Bell is just a ATT version, so will the ATT version instructions work here? I will ask in that thread but not sure).
Then - once that is done - I have to pick a way to root it that works for Bell's SIII SGH-1747M. That is where I am running into a bit of a wall. I wonder if I can get someone who has done this with this model to help me out and pick a safe way to mod it? Do I need to post more info to help decide this? I can get on his device and get whatever info is needed.
I also read, that perhaps Bell's stock kernels either do or do not need unsecuring (not quite sure after a lot of reading) before doing anything else. I really am trying to learn - it's just all very daunting and when I'm reading and not understanding, I can still read til the sun explodes and never be able to do this correctly. Well, maybe if I had an unending supply of phones.
Thank you for your help...
I would just ask in the IMEI and other forums but they are not available to me (either post count too low or I'm not sure).
Sincerely,
Foxdev

i don't understand why you believe you need to root to have this app supported. i attempted to use the app and it told me i needed to download an app from here. try that before you root?
edit: also i am rooted and it still did not allow me to use the app. rooting isn't your solution here
