How to restore older firmware - Ouya Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Ouya is rooted and I have CWM installed. This was all done without using adb,. I used rootmyouya and the Exposed framework abd Exposed mod. Ever since the April 17th firmware update I get a lot of stuttering when streaming internet videos using XBMC via ethernet and wifi is so bad I will not even consider that anymore. I have the Ouya firmware release zip prior to the ethernet screwup. What I need to know is how to flash the zip to rollback to the previous and then prevent Ouya from automatically updating again. At present the zip is located on my tablet but I can upload it to dropbox and then dl to the Ouya. Any suggestions on what I want to do?.
Gaming is secondary to using the Ouya as a media center for me.

What kind of files are you trying to watch and from where? I am using a Nas and have no problems watching 720p and 1080p over wifi. It takes awhile to buffer but it works just fine for me. I would imagine ethernet is better. If you really want to return to another firmware I would suggest restoring to default first. There is a website that hosts all of the updates, it is posted on the forum. Try searching for it.

You have to install the zip from cwm by going into recovery and choosing install from zip. You also have to clear cache and davlik before you flash. I still would advise against flashing anything because the ouya is very easy to brick and at this point extremely hard to recover a bricked ouya if at all.

to downgrade to earlier firmware go to ota firmware thread in development forum (i think) and download the one you like to flash
then flash ota like any other rom, they are complete roms anyway.
but to don't forget to backup your files first

Mediahub apk (FREE AVENGERS DOWNLOAD. TMOBILE)

Can anyone post this up? I read they are giving S3 owners a free copy of The Avengers through media hub. I don't have a PC right now but would love to get a copy. Thanks in advance.
Ohh ya, afraid its limited to T-Mobile users only
Sent from my GS3.
EDIT:
If your getting sign in fails...
Are you rooted? yes? USE TRIANGLE AWAY to reset your counter. Reboot your phone and try logging in again.
It should work after that. Also looks to be working on certain roms. Some won't play the file after downloading.
Im running WickedV2 and was able to download and move to my SD card, shows up in my stock video player gallery as well.
Hope this helps!!!
Got it. Found it on an old wicked bloat zip I had sitting on my SD card. Now just waiting for it to show up
Sent from my GS3.
Why not post it up for the rest of us?
I found the media hub apk online, installed it, avengers shows up, shows as free, then media hub fc's during the purchase process... not sure if my version of hub(June) or if because on paranoid android (cm10) just thought I would report my results

Check the general section. They posted the media hub apk... Here you gotta be on wicked or stock rom for it to work.

Here is the MediaHub.apk thanks to Doc.
Also, some are saying that you need to use Triangle away. (Earlier this week, I alluded to SamsungAccount.apk doing a system check before installing and I am betting this is one of those checks.)
Mediahub installed
Just wanted to report I am using Sonic FreeGS3 Rom with no issues in downloading the apk, installing, signing in and downloading Avengers movie in HD. Plays just fine with no issues. Thanks to all for posting links for us to get this even though we have rooted and have custom roms.
Thanks

Great, I finally get Media Hub to stay open after days of trying, get the movie downloaded, it plays initially but now won't! Arrrgh!!!

*heavy sigh* Well, I've done everything I can to stay on mrRobinsons stock rooted UVALH2, but if I can't access anything in Media Hub then I'll have to try something else. I've got a feeling there is an inconsistency somewhere. I was only able to get Media Hub to stay open by doing a full wipe and then not setting up any data. Now with data restored,I can't play the movie nor download anything else through Media Hub.

I think it depends alot on what rom you have. I've been reading the General section thread and lots of ppl are having diff issues. After you download it and play it, move the folder with the other file to your extSD card.

[Q] Cannot install a recovery after OTA

When I was gone, a younger family member played with my phone and installed the OTA.
After the OTA was installed, I believe I have root, but I cannot flash a custom recovery such as TWRP or Clockwork recovery mod.
What are possible solutions?
Easiest solution is to get the Samsung GS3 QCom Toolkit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682
The short version is you'll use this to do an ODIN flash. You need a windows PC. The toolkit includes everything else you need including several different recoveries. It has a command window interface. But it is FULLY prompted and I'd say if you have any business with root you can follow the instructions easily enough.
If you need to reroot which I think is likely, you CAN flash its included insecure image on the latest TMOB OTA (I don't have the number here but this is true as of 11/6/2012).
Once you get this all sorted out get the OTA Root keeper from the market so this won't happen again.
Even easier...
Delete
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-tecovery.sh
Reinstall recovery
Done!

Anytime you update via ota, these will be added. Its how recovery is updated.

Thank you both for your quick replies!
I tried Doc's method, and it worked right away! Thank you!
ethutch, Thank you for your suggestion, I was thinking that I might have to go through ODIN but, I wanted to see if there were alternative options before I had to go through that nightmare. (for whatever reason I have to reinstall USB drivers every time I connect my phone to my computer. )

[Q] TouchWiz Home Issue

Hello all. I had a rooted S3 which I recently decided to unroot. After unrooting, I noticed I couldn't receive system updates due to my phone being "Modified". I found some file on another forum that stated it would correct this to a "normal" status. I flashed it, and that's where my trouble began. When trying to access my system settings, I get the message "Unfortunately, TouchWiz home has stopped". I've done hours of research to try to resolve this on my own, but no luck. I haven't done a factory reset yet. I'm currently backing up over 1,000 files to Dropbox. Once that's done, I will try it, although I read somewhere that it doesn't work anyway. I can't access anything by connecting my phone to my computer. I've tried two laptops, nothing. I can't get into the settings to change any USB debugging options. If anyone could help, that would be fantastic!
Odin flash the stock firmware and ill bet it fixes the problem....depending on what you flashed. (It won't wipe your data) A link to whatever it was could go a long way in attempting to figure out any other way to fix it..

I wasn't sure if Odin would work if I couldn't get my computer to recognize my phone, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks for your reply.
If it doesn't see it in download mode, try uninstalling all related drivers and kies if you have it. Then reboot and try one if the drivers linked in my sig.

If that all fails and factory resetting doesn't work. Try flashing a stock rom from recovery. This should at least get your on device problems sorted out.

I tried everything. Reinstalled drivers, kies, etc. I can't get my computer to recognize my phone. I tried two different laptops. Not sure what other options I have at this point.

internal memory photos

hi guys my girlfriends s3 soft bricked can access green android download screen and really need to get photos back as have babys first year on them!!! i tried looking and tried odin and holo but just cant seem to get anywhere sleepless nights and no eaten is taking its toll.... if anyone can help i would even pay if somone is in scotland/england..
thanks team
What model is the S3? If youre in England, its probably the international model which is in a different forum, just so you know.
Can you boot recovery? If you have the latest TWRP or maybe CWM installed, you could use the built in file manager to copy from the internal storage to the external sdcard.
Or if you have the sdk installed you could pull the folder using the adb pull command while connected to your computer.

Also, you should be able to Odin flash the official firmware. I know on the T999 model it doesnt wipe data, do the oics should remain intact.
Unless you were on a custom rom, then you may have to factory reset which would wipe data...

thanks for fast reply yeh im in scotland will check forum. i installed sdk but get error message when try to open it? tbh im justb getting to grips with all this i dont know what twrp or cwm are sorry
sorry further reading i see what cwrm is but its all stock firmware and can only acces download screen
Not sure about the error, but there are tons of tutorials and guides for getting that set up.
Twrp and cwm are custom recoveries. These are used to flash roms and mods, nandroid backups and are just a valuable tool.
TWRP = Team Win Recovery Project
CWM = Clockwork Mod

You probably need to ask in tge international forum for this. Unless youve somehow screwed up the partitions you shouldn't need the pit file. DO NOT use a PIT file from anything but your exact model phone! Also, DO NOT flash anything you find in this forum or you are likely to hard brick!
Only flash stuff from the I9300/I9305 forum.
In my sig, go to the firmware thread and see my instructions for Odin there. Im assuming, not guaranteeing, that it should be the same for your phone. Id verify first, but do not select anything in odin except f reset time, auto reboot and PDA.
I would look for a guide for Odin in your models forum instead tbh.

If you are able to access download mode then you are able to connect to your phone through adb. First, if you you connect the phone to your pc you can easily pull the photos off of the phone. I would do that first of course before anything. Then of course flash through odin.

Lollipop upgrade with a busted USB port

Hi,
My girlfriends USB port is busted. No charging and no PC connection. It's also not broken, so can't be easily fixed.
Anyway, for some reason there is still no ota notice on the device.
Boot loader is unlocked and it is stock, not rooted.
Can anyone think of a way to manually update in this situation?
Flashify.
But I'd get the usb port fixed. It's kind of important.
Only works on rooted devices no? Actually she doesn't have much use for the USB port. Using wireless charging. She doesn't even care much for the lollipop upgrade, just watches Netflix, Facebook and some web browsing. I just wanna try it out. Swapping out the whole board is relatively expensive.
Anyway, how do you suggest using flashify on the device without root?

You could use Towelroot. Then verify root & use Flashify.

Ok. Rooted, but twrp or cwm can't flash ota through flashify, and also there is no option to flash the factory image?
I flashed the zip from the linked article for my 2013 Nexus 7 via TWRP (after backing up my stock 4.4.4 rom).). Then I dirty flashed Scrosler's 5.0.1 ROM over 5.0 (after backing up my 5.0 ROM.). http://www.theandroidsoul.com/recov...tm_source=plus.google.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Ok, found a better solution. Just needed the root.
Copy the ota file to /cache and rename it to update.zip
Then in /cache/recovery create a file named command that contains: --update_package=/cache/update.zip
Then boot to recovery.
Flashing the ota right now.
Glad you're all set!

Update went fine, fully stock.
5.0.1 didn't show up yet. Hope it shows up since I lost root and towel root won't work, so I can't force it again.
Anyway, I took half an hour and fixed the usb board, manually installed the 5.0.1 update as well.
