Questions about ROOT Galaxy Tab 3 (7") - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Galaxy Tab 3 (7"), model SM-T210R
I want to transfer data from internal storage to external SD card. I read in this forum that I need to ROOT the device first.
1- Does rooting format or deletes the current data I have on the device?
2- Does rooting installs a custom ROM on the device? or it just simply makes it possible to access the operating system files?
Thank you for your help..

1. Rooting doesn't delete data at all
2. It just install a binary and an app it doesn't flash a ROM

[Q] Full format and SD then install ROM?

All,
I want to perform a full format of my Tab including the storage so I have a pristine system when I install the Roman Kang Milestone4. What is the best process, cause if I format the SD card in the recovery, everything will get wiped including the ROM install.
Thanks for any info.
You could do a format then transfer the zip to install the rom?

Internal storage

I have a question, does the internal storage (the "sd-card") also get wiped if you do a full wipe (data/cache/factory reset)?
Lets say I have JellyBelly installed and do a backup of it do I have to copy it to my computer if I install another ROM if I don't want to lose it?
Hope you understand

No internal sdcard does not get wipe Only your personal info on the rom does (apps, contacts etc...) your internal sdcard remains untouched

[Q] Internal storage cleanup

I need your expert advice please, about the safe way formatting or cleaning
internal memory of my ROGERS S3, somehow I think I have a lot
of leftover files and folders, from previous different ROM flashing.
which folders are safe to delete without corrupting my providers settings,
or if there are better ways of cleaning, please advice
Thank you
I think u can just go to or storage setting and for mat internal storage from there and that it will for mar the inter SD card and all should be fine.

You could use the app SD Maid as a other option.
Another option would be to wipe everything next time you flash a new ROM. You can move everything important off your Internal SD and in Recovery flash the ROM then go to mounts and storage>format /sdcard and when you reboot only the needed folders will be left.
Best way is to use a full wipe flashable zip. Upndwn4par has a thread called flashing tools. Basically just put the ROM on the ext sd card. Flash Tue wipe zip which will clear system, format, and wipe data. Flash ROM and you are at square one

Formatted SD / Internal Memory

Hey guys , seeking help from the pros here.
I tried to install a new rom yesterday and mistakenly hit the format SD option instead of format System to clean phone before installing a new Rom. Now my problem is my internal memory has no files now, when going in cwm and trying to install rom from internal memory it says there are no files.
So i was wondering if anyone knows a way i can flash files back into the phone, i tried Odin and some of the flash stock rom guides here but i boot loop and it removed my cwm, so when i go into recovery i actually go into androids stock recovery mode. I have tried to flash cwm again and that seems to work but still no files in the phone. Help.

You should be able to mount sd card from recovery. Choose that option in advanced. I use twrp now and it's a bit easier to use than com. Once you mount the sd card find it on your computer move the rom zip there. Now unmount the sd and flash away.

Twrp seems easier to use and it has big buttons with the touch screen.
If you have an external sd put the rom on it from your pc. Then select external sd from twrp by touching it where it says internal and select external. Now flash a custom rom.

Once We Start Seeing ROMs...

How are we going to backup via TiBu and Nova etc without losing data in a full wipe and flashing a new ROM?
Pictures and music as well. Will we have to backup to a PC every time? Or is there/will there be a way to partition a portion of internal storage?

as far as I know when wiping data and system with TWRP, the internal storage (emulated sd card) is not touched. I could be wrong tho..
As far is I know, only user data is encrypted. Definitely our internal storage won't be wiped.
Thanks for the replies. This is my first device that doesn't have an SD card, so I didn't really know how it'd work.

If you are worried about not being able to see encrypted files in twrp. You can backup use titanium move the zip or whatever over to pc and then load to new rom using adb sideload or move files and ou want to flash to the system partition i don't think that partition is encrypted either

Still a bit confused here. I was willing to start fresh so its no big deal, but I saved my TiBu backups to my "SD Card" via Root Explorer and did a full wipe.
Of course that entire folder was wiped in the process. Got back up and running just fine via fastboot and moving the ROM to my phone via pc after the wipe.
What step am I missing in order to keep files stored in the SD Card folder? I've unlocked boatloader, have root and running vomer's CleanCore ROM (MDB08M)
Thanks for your help in advance.
