I recently bought one of these cases for my nexus 7 from ebay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nexus-7-Sli...vers_Keyboard_Folios&var=&hash=item61d421e990
The latch that holds it closed is actually a magnet, now I didn't think about it before, but could the magnets for the latch damage the screen?
OK the latch magnet is actually facing which allows it to stick to the metal button. But the side that faces the screen, that did of the magnet has a little magnetic strength.
Anyone know if that could mess the screen up? Perhaps cause dark spots?
there are many devices with magnets , Galaxy S4 , iPads , this Nexus and the previus, it shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks, I just meant because there is a magnet above the screen perhaps it would damage it.
The magnet on the case should not affect the tablet's IPS panel in any way - or any capacitive input screen, for that matter. You should be fine with the case. However, the Nexus does have a magnetometer, so I'm not sure if it would affect that in any way. I don't think it will if you're using it with the flap open, though. The magnetometer is located on the side of the screen, so with the flap open, it should be far enough away that it won't screw up any readings. Plus that looks like a pretty small magnet anyways.
Oh ok, good to know. Thanks.

I have noticed that there are two plastic pins/ridges at the base of the multimedia dock that press so hard against the lower edge of the tab that they will physically warp the screen protector. On an unprotected tab, these might cause physical damage over time. These plastic pins or ridges form two pressure points on either side of the Samsung Logo. - and before anyone points this out: yes I know its supposed to have gorilla glass, but I am not that confident in it, and the pins are close enough to potentially damage the plastic edge-frame of the tab.
These same pins/ridges are NOT present in the keyboard dock and no warping of screen protectors or severe pressure points occur.
For this reason I have discontinued using the multimedia dock and am currently using the keyboard dock instead.
I have included pictures of the pressure points and pins below.
Thanks for noticing this ... I will check it out.
If the pins are plastic i dont think they can damage the hard glass.
Yes they are plastic, and the pins/ridges don't look like much, and may or may not cause any harm to the tab, but the amount of warping of the screen protector really bothers me. The warping that you see in the photos progresses as the tab stays in the dock. After a while the corners star to peel upward as well, and I wind up with a two inch diamber bubble that I have to keep smoothing out. So, despite appearances I suspect there is a lot of stress along the lower edge of the dock.
When I put the tab in the keyboard dock instead, the screen protector stays absolutely smooth - big difference.
As a side note: even if the dock doesn't harm the tab, it is a royal pain to have to keep smoothing giant bubles in the screen protector over and over.
I posted this primarily so that we can make an informed decision, if you think its safe, use the dock - if you're paranoid like me, the keyboard dock is a safe alternative.
My guess: the dock was designed solely with the Tab in mind. Not with the Tab plus a screen protector. The screen protector may not seem like it adds much at all to the thickness, but when it comes to a precise measurement, it does. So I don't think it will do any damage to a naked Tab, but as you have seen firsthand the screen protector takes the brunt of it.

Good point, you're probably right. But I wonder why the ridges are necessary at all, as they aren't pressent in the keyboard dock.
And my trust level for Samsung accessories isn't all that high. There was a windows tablet a while back called the Q1 Ultra designed by Samsung. Samsung designed a case for it that had a plastic bracket in it made to hold a keyboard. After a month of use, I was amazed to find long sharp groves dug deep into my screen protector, from the keyboar bracket. There was no gorilla glass back then, and if it had not been for the screen protector my Q1 ultra would have been a real mess.
Wouldn't sanding down those "pins" fix the issue if you use screen protectors? Take like 1/16th of an inch off and it won't push as hard on it? Or maybe sand them off completely and put maybe felt in there?
I didnt think it had gorilla glass? And yes those plastic edges that hold in the tab damaged my screen without a protector on. cry. first day i had it
Get the dock hot and bend the plastic out. E.g. run it under hot water. oh yeah. like that's gonna work. i used my dock a couple times and didnt notice any issues w/ the tab. but it is a "tight" fit.

I highly doubt its gorilla glass. my tab screen has a minor scratch already and I rarely move it around

I also do not think that it has gorilla glass, i have a scratch as well. I tried not to use it a lot until i receiver my screen armour.

I see the pins you are talking about. They don't seem to touch the glass, no screen protector on. However, thats not what left marks on my glass\shell. In the far left and right corners there are like plastic half circles (Hard to see) that press against the glass real hard. I will take pictures soon.
According to Corning's website the only Samsung product that has GG is the SGS2. Also the screen on my GT is nothing like what is on my G2X which certainly does have GG.

I'm curious to know what type of screen proector Digital Man was using with the dock. Can you please post. Thank you. I am unable to take pictures of the half circle plastic tabs in the left and right corners of the dock. I either need a new camera or 4 hands with a light and macro shot.
So i bought a Dot View case for my M8 am and pretty underwhelmed by the lack of useful notifcations I get.. virtually none.
What I do like is the fact that it automagically turns on and off when I open and shut the case.
I assumed this is done with a magnet underneath the HTC logo on the flip cover, so I applied a small piece of magentic tape to an ordinary flip case that I prefer to use, however cannot get it to turn the phone oon and off.
looking closely at the dot case there appears to be something in the case on the rear of the phone opposite where the HTC logo is on the flip cover. Is this having an effect of the operation.
Does anybody know how this works, and how I can emulate in another cover?
I've done some tests with a dot view case, and with a few others.
Basically, it's just a small magnet placed above the screen, positioned about 3 cm from the left edge and 6.5 cm from the bottom edge of the phone, which turns it on or off.
If you can find a magnet thin & strong enough, and put it in the right place, you can virtually emulate the effect on any flip case.

Thanks for your reply, perhaps the magnetic strip i used wasn't strong enough.
Are you sure about the "3 cm " from the left hand edge?.. looking at my dotview cover it seems to span from about 0.5cm to 2cm from the LH edge?
Every flip case I own do this and have no magnets. Open cover and screen turns on. I thought it was maybe a light sense but Idk? I have the Watson flip case I think made by Incipio? Also a generic eBay one made of leather.
If your screen turns on/off, it's that your covers have the small magnet inside. Try it with a piece of cardboard or anything else and you will see the behaviour is different
As I mentioned in another post, I have found a perfect non magnet case for the S3. I have checked the front and back covers for magnets and I've found only one on the front but it doesn't seem to be very strong as it didn't attract a small pocket knife like the other cases I returned, yet still has a sleep/wake feature.
Spen function is NOT affected, I've done scribbles after scribbles and it all works well. Doesn't trigger the sleep function either when its opened all the way either.
It has a nice texture that feels like leather. The front and back facing the tablet are very well protected by a soft cloth with some type of foam underneath, corners might not be the best at protecting if dropped from a high level but it will cover from bumps.
There's a small loop pen holder but I prefer to use THIS one instead.
Might feel hard to install it the first time but at least it holds on very tight.
It is branded as MOKO but not sure if it's just a knock off although a very good one, arrived in less than two weeks from China. Highly recommend.
Took some pics a few days ago while having lunch. Hope this helps.

I hate the flap so I cut it off and mount the spen on the back with super glue lol
Edit: official glue at the middle. Much easier to hold and avoid rocking when unfold
the only problem with this setup would be that the phone cannot lie flat once unfoldid.

Thanks ! i was wondering if you could glue the thin bracket alone , spen case can easily slide in and out.

I glue it to the middle now so easier to hold and avoid rocking when unfold. Yes you can glue the other alone but it will look a bit ugly (I did try before - thicker and without spen it does look beat up lol)
I recommend only cutting the top cover flap off and keeping the pen silo portion of the case where it is from factory. I did this today and really like it so far. Thickness of the phone stays the same when pocketed. The pen silo actually acts like a grip for your fingers when the phone is unfolded too

This is what I mean by the pen silo being a grip for your fingers. Acts like a ledge of sorts in landscape orientation. Main problem of course is that when in folded orientation, the pen flaps around a bit - but it isn't as bad as I thought it'd be
Looks good.
Will the pen flaps scratch the screen?

Doubtful. The cover screen is gorilla glass and the inside of the case is micro fiber
I saw this on YouTube. Lol. I don't know what real reason to my the case like this. Nothing help.

I just did this. You solved 2 issues. 1-got rid of the flap and 2-gave support for holding while open. Great idea!

Right! I've been pleasantly surprised just how well cutting the front flap off has worked out. Another plus is that this doesn't interfere with wireless charging. It's pretty comfortable holding the tablet with just my left hand now too

i did try that and the moving part killing me so i cut it off too lol. The spen for me in the middle of the hand when folded create better grip (same with unfold - not moving parts)
What glue did you use for this? I wonder if I could get the stylus to stick to the official silicone case...

Just normal super glue at $.99 cent stores
I'm thinking of buying a stylus holder that you can buy and stick to just about anything. It would look and function just as similar. I hate this case but I'm not sure I want to destroy it yet. Having had a Mate 20 X I'm used to having the stylus separate. Actually still have the leather holder I bought for it.

I'm thinking of doing the same.
Here is what I did. What two pen holders off Amazon for like $15. They have adhesive that connects to any kind of plastic it won't work with metal for some reason. I also got the plastic case off of Amazon and I'm just using the back. It not only works and stays in it but it also wireless charges too even though it's held up slightly

I'm doing something similar. I ordered a couple of these:
in-Line Multi Functional Foldable Stylus Pen Magnetic Holder Comparable with 1st & 2nd Gen, Keeps The Flatness, Supports 2nd Gen Pencil Wireless Charging (Black) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B097H5J78T/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_XP4TF2MJCCFYH0QK4250?psc=1
I liked the idea of one long pen holder instead of two small ones.
Also, if you check Amazon, those Ringke holders you have should be three for $10, not two for $15.
Hi,
I got my Z Fold3 this week and I've been loving it! I got it with the Flip Cover (S Pen included) case, however, and I was not very happy with that. The flip on front almost never actually stays on top of the screen and it adds a tremendous am https://1921681001.id/ ount of akward bulk when used in folded mode. I've been reading other posts on t https://19216811.cam/ his Reddit and looking through reviews, but I've still had trouble deciding the best case for me. My only necessity is that it protects the phone from at least minor drops just in case, but along with that here are some things that would be preferable:
It doesn't need adhesives (most importantly, though, it stays attached to the Fold without issue even after a while).
It provides hinge protection.
Doesn't cover/make unaccessable too much of the front screen.
If it has hinge protection, I'd prefer that to at least let me put one half flat on a table when folded like a DS (aka I wanna be able to put it on a desk like a laptop).
Either an optional method of bringing my S Pen or a stand would be neat (least needed of these 5).
With all that in mind, even if no case perfectly meets all my wants, what would you all say is my best bet?

i doubt there's a need for me to point out it fits all the five points. also, there are two versions of this case out in the open. just make sure it's not the initial version with loose front case, squeaky when carried.

Apparently the hinge panels crack pretty easily. Particularly the one that holds the S Pen.

dropped my phone twice with it. no cracked hinge. the initial version does have a hinge getting loose holding the spen when folded over time. probably because of the pressure exerted on it while carrying.

SpeckPresidio, one piece no adhesive
I'm still looking. Had the Samsung silicone cover initially, but the front frame yellowed (was white) and turned brittle and broke. Now have the Spigen Air Skin, but it has the adhesive for the front cover, and it doesn't hold on anymore and cover slips off all the time.
