Hello,
i am wondering, i have used my Galaxy Nexus for some time now at stock GPU clock and it was not a pleasant experience. I came from a device with the PowerVR540 but only 800x480 (Nexus S).
This phone had no trouble to keep up with rendering stuff, it was fast and (nearly) everything was fluent.
The Galaxy Nexus on the other hand can't keep up with frames in many stock apps at landscape and especially not in the browser..you can see that it drops below the 27 fp/s minimum for the human eye (no discussion about this 27 please).
I have now overclocked my GPU from 307 to 512 mhz, the result: It's like my Nexus S, everything (well, not everything) is sooo fast and it works great.
Is the PowerVR540 in the Galaxy Nexus just to slow for it's 1280x720 screen?
This has been asked many times, the gpu us actually one of the better chips out there. For your apps slowing down all I suggest is updating all your apps to latest version and make sure your running the latest version of your rom if your using Google stock or a custom rom. Youl also find over clocking your gpu will just use more battery for small gain. It was explained better in one if the custom kernel threads. If you ask my opinion Google knows best what hardware to use in their flag ship devices and now I'm running 4.0.4 stock rooted my phone is absolutely perfect.

I don't know, Google doesn't seem to know their hardware...my apps are up to date but my problems are with stock apps. I have used 2 GN and it was the same on both...lags, lags, lags...maybe some don't notice them (or just ignore them) but it's a horrible experience for me...i am just wondering why this phone isn't using a PowerVR543MP2...

Are you on a custom rom or stock? Stock 4.0.4 rooted has solved a lot of the small lags I found, try updating to it is my advice.

Stock 4.0.4...it's just that my Nexus S was somehow faster then the Galaxy Nexus...i expect better performance when i upgrade...not the other way around

Nexus s has a lot less pixels to push, the resolution is no where near as high so that would be my guess.

Hi,
I've had my galaxy for about 3 weeks and I've been dealing with horrible battery issues. I can charge it to 100% and go to sleep and wake upbto fund its almost dead...I'm in a good coverage area and I dint have any apps installed except tapatalk.
I first noticed it when I flashed paranoid..and the after that it has just been crappy ..I Odin back to stock and did the ota update and I still have bad battery life
Here is the things that I've done to my phone..
Installed juice defender
Stopped all sync
Screen brightness is all the way down..but this don't matter cause the screen isn't even on
Turning off mobile data and WiFi
I have noticed that if I don't have a SIM card in then the battery last a lot longer but not all that great
I have attached so screenshots to maybe help y'all figure out something I'm not seeing
Have others had this problem ..if so what did you do?
Should i take it back to AT&T and tell em fix it,, I bought used but I have the box and all that
Bad battery?
battery
5-6 hrs seems way off even with stock ... I would return it. Or you can root it, install CM10 & ktoonez and see how much better the battery is ...

Lucky for me Samsung is goin to.look at it tomorrow..I have a repair center about ten mins away from me...

I have a us att gs3 had it for a month and I had massive battery issues I mean I could go to sleep at 100% and wake up at 15% after a battery pull and nothing running I tried everything and I mean everything. A guy at work has a tmobile with 0 problems. A verizon guy has problems. After seeing a million people on line complaining I decided returning it for another was a 50-50 crapshoot and to just root and rom it. Right decision im running a jellybean leak called pistol by this guy drew. WOW works amazing. My battery can last me two days now depending on use. Its not a perfect software it as all custom roms has quirks but once the samsung official jellybean comes out I think the phones will be perfect

I am on stock 4.2.2 with franco.kernel r366. Most of the time it runs ok but sometimes my gnex is laggy as hell, especially whwn downloading app from the Play Store. Sometimes waking to drvice can take 3-4 seconds and sometimes even more. I am using widgetlocker. Not mentioned Chrome which is laggy too. I really can't understand why my gnex act like that... I used my friend's HTC One X and its smooth all the time.

Well, there are big differences on the Gnex and HTC one X hardware. You cant just think that it will have the same performance.
The question is, do you really need a phone that is 100% smooth?
But android is becoming a heavy OS. Its natural to evolve this way, as well as hardware.

Smoothness is the most important features for me. I need my phone to be responsive all the time, that the reason I went back to stock from custom because custom gave me terrible performance, that making a call was an issue.

"Need". Otherwise you're probably going to have to buy a new device soon.
I can conquer.
When downloading from the Play store, It is extremely slow on various roms.
I believe the problem is the read\write speeds of the storage which is extremely slow.
too bad
yes, i have the same problem whem the app is installing. Its very slow and laggy. Its important to say that there are many apps for android that are poorly optimized, so even in a powerful hardware you may have some issues.
Considering Gnex is a mid end device, i think soon you have to change your phone to a high end if you want more smoothness and if you are willing to pay the price.
+1
This didn't happend on 4.1, so it's not a hardware issue

Most apps are optimized for gingerbread. And of course its going to "lag" while doing intensive operations.
Sent from my Nexus
I'm running stock and I haven't experienced any sort of lag or anomalies. Have you tried flashing stock to verify?
i disagree bro...
if you compare GNex with the smartphones with the same h/w config, u wud definatly agree dat its the best in its generation.
writing to disk normally slows the phone. Probably is more related to the OS than hardware.
No, just 4.2* is junk. Go back to 4.1.2 and you'll see the difference.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix
This fixed a lot of lag the op was talking about. It trims the /data and /cache partition, which for some reason doesn't happen on this device but is required just like normal ssd drives.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
That app doesn't work on my device. I tried the app from chainfire I believe that checked if the device was bugged by that emmc trimming failure. Mine wasn't.

Hey guys im coming form the At&t forum and we have been discussing the amount of lag on the phone I was curious if you T-Mobile users are experiencing lag like us At&t users? I'm curious if its the phone or At&t's version is just lagtastic.
I just came over here to post the same thing. Looking through the first couple of pages of threads, it does not look like lag is appearing anywhere in the titles.
I don't have any lag. What kind of lag? Maybe I'm not going through the same app or something.

In my ~2 years on ATT I've learned that ATT bloatware not only sucks terribly, but also is memory intensive. Get someone that's rooted to debloat and see if they still have lag.
Some people have mentioned lagginess, but it doesn't appear to be wide-spread. Posting additional info about the lag you're seeing would be helpful...

Yes I am experiencing lag. I will be posting a video comparing the lag on the S4 vs my S3.

I have been rocking mine for three days and I'm experiencing little to no lag. The s3 had lag from the TouchWiz interface the lock screen had a little lag and the home button too. Overtime the s3 got faster. I've owned both s3 and note2 and now s4 and I can't tell you that the s4 is dramatically laggyer. But I do notice minors lag in certain apps but its not enough to cry about and it's not something that can't be addressed by either official update or custom ROM.

Ive owned all of those devices as well, and I can tell you the AT&T Note 2 is dramatically faster than the AT&T S4, and similar in terms of speed to the S3. Im very dissapointed, and was curious to see if you tmobile users are also experiencing this awful lagginess. I owned the One briefey and its MUCH faster which a slower clocked cpu
There is a slight lag once in a while but its not bad.

wife has had her since May 1 and has not said anything about lag...then again, she is coming from an Exhibit II so i'm sure she probably wouldn't even notice any LOL

For sure the note 2 is snappier I know it. I wont lie. But the s4 (at least mine) hasnt been lagging that bad at all. This ui is one of the most customizable and tricked out uis ive seen out of the box..I have no been around 3 s4s and they all been running good. Lag I do notice is switching tabs in browser and opening gallery takes like 2 secs. No keyboard lag and quadrant scores are ridiculous
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Coming from the s3, I do feel that the s4 lags a little bit. Switching tabs on chrome and pressing home button is two of them, the camera shutter is laggy as well, it's not instant like how it was on the s3. I have disabled some of the bloat, but can't say it has helped.

I'm going to go ahead here and say something that will probably upset quite a few people.
Your lag (in my opinion) is most likely
45% Bloatware
40% User error/****ty application choice
5% The phone
Tell me I'm wrong all you want, but that's what I'm sticking with because I have experienced much less lag and much more snappy response than the S3.

I would normally agree with this, BUT..... I'll address your thesis.
This is a widespread problem on the att forum, and all display models I've played with.
Bloatware: it's all disabled
User error / sharty app: I'm using the same apps I've used on my last 20 phones, most recently the HTC one with 0 lag.
The phone: well that's most likely the problem, I think Samsung failed on this one....

I should've put ATT where I put The Phone... that's really what I meant.
Like I have said, I experienced NO lagging problems. Pure speed and responsiveness. And this is on 3 different T-Mobile S4's that I have used extensively.
Like ^^ said, see if you can return your phone and buy a Tmobile and unlock it if it's that much of a problem, otherwise wait till we got some AOSP, because it's obvious to me that ATT's ROM is ****.
I must agree with my fellow T mobile s4 owners. I rooted. De bloated and took off a few useless window animations and my s4 is flying. Only one tiny tiny thing maaaybe is home button is .05 secs to slow. Personally I feel like its some BS samsung bug or timing issue in software.
Im coming from a rooted htc amaze dual 1.5ghz snapdragon w 1gb ram, that was a fast phone when it was unlocked and set up properly.
With the s4 Even when I had it completly stock it wasnt "lag" it was more touchwiz and bloat. Performance AND battery life have been amazing for me. My device doesnt even have much of the smearing others are reporting.
I dont post much but this device has restored my faith in samsung phones.
If your device is otherwise I think you should replace or buy tmo ver and unlock like previously stated.
Hope it works out for you.
I don't have an S4 so I can't test this, but Jason on All About Android said he turned off Air Gestures and the lag and stuttering went away.
I'm coming from an s2 t989 and am completely pleased with the results. The home button lag isn't evident in my device, I'll get back to you if it comes up .

I have many app ideas, but don't have the skill or the time to learn how to make an app. if you would like to know an idea and attempt to make one, just message me.
+1, Not that it is a huge difference, but this does make a small difference.
Before my S4, I had (still have) the Note II ... The touch screen on the S4 is much snappier (obviously with the new integrated tech.) than any of my previous phones...Note II and S3.
This is definitely not a hardware issue for those who are experiencing the random lag.

Hi I had some questions, that if the action can be done by rooting my phone i was wondering if someone can send me to a video or tell me them self step by step clearly how to root a phone and if needed a custom rom with detail enough that i wont brink my phone i would very much appreciate that.
First My phone seems when on the app store to download apps really slowly, i have factory reset my phone but still acts this way can anyone help me with this issue?
Also my battery life seems to be very bad i see my phone at 97 percent one moment the 80 the next. Is the only way to increase battery life is by power saver mode and limiting my cpu and setting my brightness to nothing? or are there better options out there?
Also I was told rooting my phone and using battery calibrate might help is that true?
I have the Samsung galaxy s2 with a 1.5 cpu from t-mobile running on 4.1.2.
P.s Any other information you might know about this that will help my phone for the better please also include seeing that i have never dealt with this phone. (also i know its kinda old but with college its the only thing that really fit my budget)
1 click root w-framaroot. Got mine on Play store.
