Unlock bootloader without volume keys? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I've got a Desire HD and I was unlocking the bootloader via the HTC Dev method but i ran into a problem - I can't finish the final step because my phone's volume buttons are broken. Is there any way to circumvent this or does this simply mean I can't do it. My WiFi and Bluetooth don't work either and the rear speaker just stopped working 2 days ago.

What is the final step?

go to settings apps development tick usb debugginh
open cmd and cd to adb then type
adb reboot bootloader
then press power button
wait for it... it should say hboot usb plug
press it again and the red bit should say fastbootusb (i know it says it first time, but do this anyway)
then continue

the final step is to flash unlocktoken.bin
then in the phone you have to press yes(i don´t remenber if it´s the default option) if not, then you can´t go away with broken volume buttons. you need to select yes whit vol+ and then press power

Yeah, that's what I meant. I can get into the bootloader with "adb reboot bootloader" and fastboot is the default option so no volume key required there. Its the screen in the image where I have to confirm the unlock. It's not the volume rocker as the buttons are unresponsive even when i use something else to press them. So there's really no other way? Can I possibly downgrade low enough to use an older exploit?

Maybe you can downgrade the main version using fastboot mode and then flash an older ruu, but i'm not sure if it's possible or not

XTC Clip - question on how to use

A very simple/noob question about how to use the XTC Clip to unlock a Wildfire S.
I have an XTC Clip, and the instructions say to press the "Action" button at a critical point (when doing the actual S-OFF bit).
But what is this "Action" button ? It's not Power, and the phone doesn't have a touch/scroll pad like some others. Is it the Volume buttons ?
Scratching my head on this, I don't want to risk a brick ! Thanks in advance

Look for others if it's not clear enough. Hundreds on there... Good luck!
Thanks, but that video you linked isn't a Wildfire S, and they use the trackpad on the phone. All the other videos seem to be about SIM unlock using unlocking codes, or at least not using the XTC Clip.
Edit - apologies, it seems to be a Wildfire in the video linked. But not a Wildfire S, which doesn't have the trackpad.
From my german guide:
A menu will appear error message incl.
[Vol-] button and wait for exit.
A menu appears (power = flash, Vol - = Diag)
Press [Vol-] button and wait for DIAG. A menu will appear.
With [Vol-] and [vol +] select [Clear Data S58] and confirm with [Power].
The display will show some messages including Clear Security flag.
Done: The phone should now be S Off.
Remove battery and SD card and start the boot loader. Check whether the boot loader will appear as S off.
Make sure that the sim dummy has a good connection.

Thank you ! So it is Vol Down, I thought it might be but I wanted to be more sure before trying it, especially since it's someone else's phone.

I have to agree with Schnello about the need for the sim dummy having a good connection, when I went S-OFF using XTC clip it took me 6 attemps before I was succesful as I did not have a good fit with the SIM dummy.

Hard Bricked - can't get into download mode

I have a very serious problem. I've managed to brick my device. I decided I wanted to install CM 10.2 on my E988 (Taiwan version) but it didn't work. I rooted, installed freegee and also had cwm. I put the files on my sd card and then formated data, cache and dalvik cache. When I tried to install from sd card it said can't partition non-vfat. So i decided then that I would push the files using adb to my devices internal storage. I managed to do this but when I did it said installation aborted. It didn't have anything else in the log. At the moment I can access cwm but I can't seem to do anything with it. I can also charge my device but the charging image is missing.
When I try to access download mode it comes up with the factory hard reset screen which does nothing.I am at the moment downloading the stock image kdz file but I don't think I'll be able to do anything with it.
When I boot up my phone it still says that freegee is installed.
I got the CM rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439827
On that thread it says that you need to remove the first four lines of text in the updater-script file. However, in notepad, it depends on how big your window is to how much four lines of text is. Further into the thread, a user asked how much was actually meant to be removed and someone replied with all the way up to 'mount'.

False alarm

Try, Remove battery and put again your device, hold Volume "-" and Home button and Power button, after display confirm put power button 3 time.
It's OK. It turns out that to get into download mode you don't have to press the power and volume buttons, you just have to press both the volume buttons and then plug in the USB

Permanent Safe mode on Xperia s

Hi. My sony xperia S is stuck in a permanent Safe mode. Tryed to install different ROMS, pressing different buttons during the start of the device, taking off the battery and etc.
It appears that the phone goes in that mode because of a malfunction in the VOLUME down button (it doesnt work). I dont want to repair it, dont have the money and i use this phone for trying different ROMS.
So here's the question . Is there a way to DISABLE safe mode? It doesnt bother me that the volume down button doesnt work, i want my phone to be ok for daily use.
Thanks for your attention.

I have an idea bro!
From wich I understand if your problem is caused by broken volume key(assume that its keep pressing during boot and force the device in safe mode) maybe you should try to disable it
If you already have root access you may try to browse to /system/usr/keylayout
There are some files with .kl format that map the device keys
In my phone (X Z1) the volume key info is in the Generic.kl
Key 114 and 115

If you put a # before the volume up/down line it will be actually disable the volume key function
Dont know if this gonna help you or not,but you may just want to give it a shot

How to enter Recovery mode, with Verizon?

Can someone help me get into recovery mode on my Verizon G4? I want to clear the cache.
I have read to turn it off, then press & hold Power and Volume Down, until the LG logo appears. Then release only Power, then press & hold Power again, until the recovery screen appears. And I'd swear I'd gotten in this way on a previous Verizon G4.
But I can't get it to work on this phone. Either on software 610B, or having just upgraded to 611A. It either just boots up normally, or if I keep holding Power, it seems to just reboot again.
What am I doing wrong? Sorry for the basic question, but I've tried it a bunch of times, with no success.

It's probably the same as the g3. I would just hold volume down and power until the stock recovery popped up. Not letting off at all.
That did it, thank you! That was easy. And this was different than what I had read elsewhere.

I originally read the way you described first for my g3. So you can only go with the info given. I just happen to figure out just holding them works best. If you have root access just get quick boot from the play store. Makes it easy to get into custom recovery.

Easiest way is to go to: Settings>Storage>Click on "Cached data">YES.

Zenfone 2 (Z00A) No bootloader + no OS + "Broadcast tv" loop

Hi Developers.
This is my first post but I've used this forum for many devices before.
This is what happened:
Atfer update to android 6.0.1 (M), I got some "bugs" (freeze) after I tried to root the device (using this method). I failed the first time I got a bootloader loop. I googled it and found this method (same commands but adding a "fastboot splashscreen.img"), then my phone just got a blank screen loop. My next step was the xFSTK method (this one). My phone booted "normally" and then I tried to update it to 6.0.1.
After that, my phone just got stuck in ASUS logo. I tried the xFSTK method and in the middle of the Flash Tool process, I interrupted it, because it was taking so long. I tried xFSTK process again but I got a "FW+iOS failed" and the attached screen loop (like a broadcast tv).
Please... Help.
(note: I don't speak/wrtie english very well. I hope you guys understood me)

Solved, thanks to sukhwant717 for his post
And his quote:
those who are not able to keep device connected. take care of few steps
1. in xFSTK option menu change the flag override value to 0x80000807 not 0x800000807 ( don't forget to click gp value over ride)
2. while connecting to xFSTK attach usb to computer. hold power button for 20 seconds to make sure it power downs completely. then hold the power button down and click power button. wait till device vibrate or computer makes detection sound. leave power button but keep holding the volume button for few seconds
