Hey guys,
I am new to all this rooting and i just successfully rooted my s4 to virginrom.
I hate to ask the questions that have probably been answered elsewhere but i've looked as much as i can and i cant really find this issue.
Is anyone else having an issue to where the GPS is finding your location immediately but it is very slow or irresponsive to movement. (aka when im driving, it does not pick up that I'm moving and it stays locked in the original location, unless I am a turn ahead of the navigation, then it will jump forward.)
Also, i flashed the most recent update of virgin rom. What are CSCs? do i have to manually add the CSCs somewhere? If so, where?
After reading all these threads I'm sure ill get great answers from you all.
Thanks in advance!

In not having any issues with GPS, I'm also using the same ROM. If you are using T mobile gs4 and flashed the ROM from tmo thread then you don't have to worry about the CSC.

I know at least one thing in the CSC files on the VirginROM page are carrier specific APNs. I have a T-Mobile GS4 that I am now using on AT&T's gophone $60/month plan, and if I flash the AT&T CSC zip file, the AT&T APN that uses LTE will be selected automatically. If I don't flash that CSC zip file, I have to add the AT&T APN myself, which is a pain.

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct section.. but wanted to ask the experts if there is a ROM that will allow me to have the Hot Spot Feature with my business plan... but NOT effect the WIFI calling performance? It's an absolute must that I have a good consistent WIFI calling as I have ZERO reception at my home office!
Thank you for any advice or help!

PS. I know that the S3's were having major issues with the WIFI calling up until a couple of weeks ago.. I heard it was on TMobiles end however.

I could be wrong, but as long as your flashing a touchwiz Rom, you should expect the same, ideally better, performance as stock.

alright guys the thread has been reported for movement. no one else needs to tell him that it's in the wrong section the mods know. as to the question all touchwiz roms that are official port such as wicked, frosty and such all have the wifi calling feature. As to the root method
this one is for JB http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
and this one is for ICS http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294522635
go to this thread it will explain how to do everything http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687

its not intended just for you, it causes more clean up for mods as well and that's why they put the report option so the thread wouldnt be filled to the brim with comments about it being in the wrong section and Flaming the OP.
on another note have you flashed any of the roms yet?
Just got back to the house... I plan on flashing probably later this evening or tomorrow morning. Do you happen to know if there is any backup that literally mirrors your phone image? IE Text Messages etc?
One more question if you dont mind... I noticed on the way home I would pickup up Edge and "G" on my GS3... assuming this is AT&T.. the only way the phone was able to even see the signal is when I made some adjustments in the Roaming / register with the network settings. Is there any Rom or Flash that will allow the phone to work on the AT&T towers? I noticed I wasnt able to actually place a call on the network ... or at least not consistently when the phone saw almost full bar AT&T.
Thanks for the heads up!

well when roaming all roms intended for a t mobile version will switch to at&t towers but if you want to be constantly on att towers you would have to switch over to att.
also if your on jb right and root then just flash another jb rom touchwiz of course the settings will carry over msgs and such. same goes for ICS but if you wipe during the flashing process all of those settings will be lost. the way i do now is im on cm 10,1 and when ever a update comes out now i just press update no wiping is done during the process.

Ok, So I have an Epic 4g flashed to Cricket, I have made everything work(mms, test, talk, ect.) I have it on Android 4.1.2. My problem is I only get 3G and its not very dependable. I live in Phoenix, A.Z. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I don't use a MVNO, so I am not sure which regular troubleshooting steps would clear away your carrier settings. (I'm thinking using EFS Clear in Odin is the only concern, but that is sometimes needed for modem issues.)
Based off that rom's thread, you must be using the NS4G modem. Since your issue is with connectivity:
Perform a CWM backup of your current setup.
Flash an Epic modem rom and FC09 modem. (You can flash the modem using CWM. There's a thread in the dev forum w/ links.)
Try testing connection again.
I'd normally tell a Sprint Epic user to boot into FC09 multiboot and update profile & PRL, but I don't even think the PRL update would work for you. I'd then say, start from scratch by using Odin to flash FC09 with repartition checked. If they still had issues with connectivity, then I'd recommend using EFS clear in Odin when reflashing either just the FC09 modem or the entire FC09 tar.
Because you are on another carrier, I'm weary of suggesting you use Odin so quickly. If you haven't already, dive into your phone settings and document your carrier specific info you changed to get it working. This way, if you end up doing something that resets your original changes, then you can reconfigure it.
So give the suggestion that is listed above a try.
Since I'm very much a noob myself, I'm only tossing this out to possibly trigger an idea for someone else: Would perhaps the issue lie in the Build.prop or one of those similar files? I've poked around so many of them I can't remember which hold what tidbits of info... I know the Build.prop holds most of the primary carrier info, but I seem to recall another one that stored a bunch of info for a bunch of the other carriers (though that might have been for roaming and may not be of any help here).
*shrug* Otherwise, I's gots nothin' lol
I have a sprint samsung galaxy note 2 that is rooted and flashed to verizon running macksrom 5.0 and i started having this problem. the problem is i can call from my phone when it is not on wifi but the 3g/4g isnt showing up top in the status bar i cant access the internet unless im on wifi. when i go into settings and click on mobile networks it acts like it is going to do it then it hangs at a black screen and a box pops up and says unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped ive tried cleaning caches and fixing permissions, nothing helps, there is also another thing that pops up and says error #89 unknown error. it also says when i click on stuff, use touchwiz or xperia to perform this action. Always or just once.) I bought this samsung gn 2 online everything was already done to it. I think whoever installed the macks rom must have left the the touchwiz on it. Because it keeps asking me when i do things, perform action using touchwiz or xperia I also noticed that i have goomanager on it. Can i use the goomanager to reflash this phone? If so can someone give me information on how to properly do it. i also read something about mobile odin. Which one would be the easiest to use?
You have too much going on there. I would relash the rom. Make sure you wipe system, casche and devick; may want to do old school and wipe three times.
Goo Manager is probably suppose to be there, by design from the ROM developer. That should have been in the OP on the ROM three, along with known issues.

Doesn't verizon run a slightly different hardware version from sprint? Are you trying to connect to the verizon or the sprint network? If verizon, there are two possibilities. 1 - hardware, the sprint phone just doesn't like the verizon signal. (unlikely) 2. - ROM, is the ROM the sprint version or the verizon version? if it's the sprint version I would say that framework differences are causin the issue and would reflash the correct version for your carrier (or the correct port - the hardware differences I mentioned earlier)
Have you called customer service about getting your phone set up on their network? About getting the IMEI number registered in their database?
In other words what have you already tried with this used phone in order to get it set up on your provider's network?

Ok, let me start by saying I've been searching for the better part of today, and finding answers all over the place depending on how old they are or all kinds of assumptions.
Here's my situation: I have an unlocked AT&T Galaxy SIII i747). I'm running AOKP 4.2, but I'm willing to run something else if it helps me. I have a very temperamental data connection - sometimes it goes to 2G, many times nothing at all. VERY seldom does it see H+. 4G would be lovely, but I'm just trying to even get reliable 3.5G. I use a GV number as my "primary cell phone number" so a working data connection is essential even to be able to make outbound calls.
I live in NYC, which I'm pretty sure has been "refarmed" for 1900/2100 HSPA+. I've looked online for T-Mo APN settings, and have tried several - none seem to fix the problem.
Can anyone recommend what I should be looking at to fix the data issues? Do I need to reflash a different modem? Secret APN settings that only XDAer's know? Do a raindance on the 17th day under a full moon and pray to the moon gods?
Again forgive if this has been answered before, but there are about 9000 different responses to this question and things seem to be constantly changing, including the recent refarming of HSPA+ 1900 in my area. I'm just trying to get a phone that works reliably.

Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this,
So the story goes as so: After doing some research couple months ago about the capability of the Verizon Galaxy S3 to work on T-mobile, i purchased it, and got it to successfully work on T-mobile(texts, calls, wi-fi). The problem is, i just recently upgraded to include a data plan, and i cannot access the internet, despite taking my phone to my cell phone dealer and contacting T-mobile.T-mobile even sent me a guide to do a mastery reset to factory in hopes to solve this problem, only to tell me afterwards that the phone version SCH-I535 is a "verizon locked-software" and i won't be able to set up an APN to work on the T-mobile network. This was all due to the fact that i was not able to set up a APN for T-mobile, and every time i tried to access it through setting, it brought me to a blank black page with the only option of "Reset to Default". After reading other forums and talking with some people, many have suggested i take this issue to XDA to find a solution.
So, here i am.....Does anyone know if it is possible for me to break/root/ or whatever it is called so i can successfully access the t-mobile network on my phone? Preferably an easier guide since i am sort of a newbie at this sort of stuff.
Thanks again for reading.
Before your Contract change, you were able to receive and make calls successfully with T-Mo Sim right ? Even now you can make calls too correct ? The reason I am asking this is to be able to check if you are really unlocked off of VZW. If you are not unlocked, then that would be the first step.
You are right, the APNs do drive Data Connection. If the stock firmware does not allow you to change APNs then you will have to root. Please post a screen of your Settings > About phone that shows your Rom Version, Baseband and Kernel.

Hey Perseus, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. I bought the phone in the summer off someone who had verizon. I have always had T-mobile, and considering this phone is GSM, i decided to buy it because it would probably work for T-mobile. I had the phone unlocked, and i am currently using it to make calls, texts, and even use wi-fi with no problem. The only problem at this time is that i recently added a data plan which i cannot currently use. Here is a screen shot of what you have requested.
Thanks again
First try
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type.See what it is set to. Change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA if needed. See the other option System Select as well.
Also separately try the following.
Hit ##DATA# in the Dialer. In the subsequent Menu choose EDIT > OTHERS > LTE APN
If all fails, please Root the phone and then try. The way you go about is
1. Flash a Custom Recovery via Odin. Make sure the version of Custom recovery is for your model D2VZW not D2TMO.
2. Flash a SuperSU zip file via Recovery and then hit fix permissions in the recovery.
Try the APN Settings after that. IF you can actually access them, then set them according to this link.
If all the above fails, I'd suggest a custom Rom for d2VZW.
You will never get 4g trust me I had one... you will just get the E

Ok, so i tried to changed it to LTE and i got no service at all, so i switched it back to Global. I also tried the dialer thing several times, and got the " connection problem or invalid MMI code"
So i guess i am going to have to root the phone? Does anyone know a good video tutorial or written tutorial on how to safely do this? Also, what exactly is rooting?

You have to enable the mmi codes to use them. Anyway as stated above your reply you will never get 3g or 4g just edge (seen it personally) which is pretty darn slow.. Not worth it if you ask me and be paying for data.. If you still want to root it and keep trying to add sons check the Verizon forums.. They could probably help you a lot more than on this side of the forums

Guys, he is not getting ANY data signal at all. His problem isn't getting the specific icon but being not able to change APNs.
@HackThisThing, you are better off following up on Verizon Device forum. That forum does have a video tutorial for Rooting. Here's forum link.
I don't think you will be able to change APNs without rooting. I checked with a buddy of mine who has the same device as you.
Here's a good answer to What is Rooting ?
Even if you CAN fix it, why bother if you can only get 2G? I'd sell it or trade it for a phone that's more compatible with T-Mobile 's network instead of paying for data and only getting dial-up speeds. I get that solving problems is fun, but OP do you want to live with only 2G?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
I don't agree with that assessment. Just like the T999L phone, this device will work on LTE Bands just fine. OP just needs to wait for LTE to be rolled out in their area. There's a coverage map and roll out schedule on T-Mo website and the T-Mo News blog.
It's worth a look, but could still leave them with patchy coverage. If it's going to be a while, why wait when it's not hard to just trade the phone? I guess I don't see a reason why hold out on getting a Verizon phone to work when you could just get one that works now with little to no monetary loss. It's just a Verizon S3, not really something worth "waiting" for when they could get the same thing but more functional on their network of choice.
They made an honest mistake and waiting might give them "good enough" service - but other than that they're stuck with dial up speed only and risk bricking a phone they could just trade or sell now.
Maybe I'm just impatient and risk averse.
