Rooting means just to root the device to get the superuser access..whereas unlocking bootloader open the way for installing Custom ROMs.

You can always check out google search,
just type in your phone model, version, ect ect ect..... and search for rooting your phone, usually you have to root your phone before you can unlock the bootloader. you might want to also see if you have to have a seperate recovery program loaded up but im not sure about your phone, once again all that info can be look up on google search or yahoo, bing, whatever you use it will all have the same info.

There are a few things you must do
1. You must install flashmode and fastboot drivers
2.you must select xperia play as current device
3. Reboot into fastboot via ADB
4. Once booted into fastboot mode, click on select kernel to flash.

I know it's a pain to do but have you tried returning to stock and starting all over again?I take that flashmode works? That's what I would do if it happened on my phone:good:
EDIT Try disable antivirus
The real question is: have you run flashtool or the command line in "administrator mode"?
