Peace All,
While editing some PNG's in notification/status bar I somehow broke my MARKET app. I checked system/app through Root Explorer and the files are still there...but I Market doesn't show up in my app drawer. Can someone tell me how to restore my market back on phone?
Thanks in advance,

Well, you can try opening the original zip of your rom and put vending.apk back in system/apps with Root Explorer. Or, next time (before you start messing around with stuff) make a nandroid backup so if something breaks, you have a system restore point of everything. Hope it works out for ya.

Peace zmag,
I will try that and see if that works (Root Explorer). I did make a NANDROID btw---just dont feel like re-doing all the work I've done---hopefully I wont have to

*FIXED*
Glad you got it fixed, hope I helped!
You should post how you fixed it, so anyone with a similar problem can get some insight.
And don't forget to hit the [THANKS] button (if I helped)

Peace zmag...
You're right---here's how i fixed it:
-apparently while I was pulling/pushing files thru ADB I neglected to realize that since Google started updating their stock apps (like Gmail, Market etc) they moved files from data to system. In my case while I was ADB pushing files that I was editing icons on back to data--I also should have been ADB pushing them back into system as well (which I forgot to do when I edited icon files from the Market---which ultimately broke my link to Market)
So what i did was follow suggestion from zmag and thru Root Explorer I found the vending.apk in data and long pressed it and selected "move" (making sure I was mounted as RW) and then went into the system location under app and then pasted the vending.apk there. I then rebooted the phone--and link was then RESTORED.
Still learning this thing---a year ago I would have never been able to edit icons through ADB and my PC--its not as hard as I thought it would be (a little tedious though--and there was probably a better/easier way to do it---but I still got to my desired goal)
hoped this helped any "newbie" (like myself)

Hi, i thought to post my thread here since everyone's posting their problems here. I need someone to post his/her data folder because mine is corrupted :/
Please don't go basaltic at me all at once. I know there are threads in which people dump their system folder and all but i haven't found any data folder. I've been searching for 5 days of research and downloading :/
My brother have accidently deleted a file from his data folder and keep getting FC in his apps...
Much appreciated for help in advance

The data folder contains the downloaded/installed apps? I have mine though, consists of the downloaded apps from the android market.

/system/app contains the pre-installed apps (the ones that you cannot delete normally)
/data/app contains the user installed apps
Anyways what files are you looking for? Im pretty sure your phone has root access, as user level access cannot view whats inside the /data folder.

Buddy, just get the TFT file of your firmware version and do a quick flash using flashtool without wiping the data. That should solve all your problems
Hi all,
I'm a new registered member here but just want to start by saying i've read MANY, MANY threads here the last few days...probably 6 hours worth and all I can say is this forum is awesome! I decided to take the plunge and root my first phone and install my first rom knowing I had read a TON. Long story short, everything worked to perfection!
I rooted my phone first and after reading up on a few different roms I ended up going with Mikeyinid's 2.3.6 debloated rom and then flashing the Hercules Kernel. Again, everything went to perfection. I then read up on ROM manager and Titanium Backup...d/l'ed and installed both of those apps from the Market. As i'm starting to get more apps and add more things to my phone I realized at some point tmobile will send another OTA update..in the 1st quarter of this year (from what i've read) which contains ICS 4.0. Because i'm really loving this ROM from Mikey, i'd rather hold off and wait for a modded and debloated ICS version even if that's months after the release by TMO OTA.
Anyway, getting to my question....one of the threads I read on here was regarding being "rooted" and having TMO send an OTA update. From what i've read you'll lose your rooting AND you'll get RE-BLOATED. I prefer DE-BLOATING over rebloating..on both my phone and my stomach. However, my stomach needs a lot more rooting then my phone at this point.
Anyway, In the thread there were a few ways to prevent receiving updates from TMO after you've rooted, one of which is to locate a couple of files in the system folder (apk files) back them up with ES ROOT or something similar and delete them. The problem is....I've checked both drives that show up in Windows explorer for my phone and there is NO SYSTEM FOLDER anywhere.
Was the system folder deleted in this particular ROM and if so, I assume I don't have to worry about those "apk files", and won't receive TMO OTA updates anyway, right? Or am I missing something completely?
Thank you very much in advance any response is greatly appreciated.
You wont see that folder if you connect to pc.. Only within the phone using root explorer or any other file manager that can access it.. And like always, soon after ics release.. There will be a original odex version of the update or deodex. Either odin or flashable through cwm

@ noodles, thank you. Your reply here on the forum was like the roms here....blazing! Thank you. I'm using ES FILE EXPLORER and didn't see the file anywhere which is what prompted me to connect my phone to my pc and see if I could see it there. Since you've said that file won't show on a pc I've reopened ES FILE EXPLORER and the file is still not there.
Now in the top/middle box in ES FILE EXPLORER it says "/SD CARD" so it appears it's showing me only files from the internal SD card? I've tried to change the directory it's showing but there's nothing else in there to change it to other then /SD CARD. I also did a search with ES FILE EXPLORER and nothing came up with system. But again, if i'm understanding this correctly it's only searching the "/SD CARD" location and I can't see any other way to change that.
I know Titanium Backup (Pro) would allow me to freeze the device application and prevent any OTA updates but from what i've read ES FILE EXPLORER should allow me to locate the two files..backup and delete them. Any ideas? And thanks again for your time.
UPDATE:
Please disregard my post. I've searched every prompt in ES FILE EXPLORER and found you have to click the "FAVORITES" tab in order to see the system files. In the drop box which is a directory box I would of thought I could change it there, but you can't. You have to hit the "favorites" button and then you'll see all the other goodies. Thanks noodles...you helped me out and I learned another new thing...that those files can't be searched on a PC. Thank you.
Never used that file manager simple with root explorer, straight to the point.. Anyways, youre welcome. You can pm if you need help..

@ Noodles...thanks again...I appreciate the willingness to help. After playing around with it for 30 mins. I actually like the interface of ES FILE MANAGER. Root explorer is a paid app and while it isn't much there are a lot of paid apps and before you know it you can drop a lot of money with 4 and 5 dollar apps adding up so I was going for a non-paid option and ES FILE MANAGER did what I needed and easily. I moved both wssync.apk files to my external SD and then deleted the files from the system/app folder.
Now hopefully no OTA updates from TMO will affect my phone.
hey so I have two problems that im 100% sure are connected. One - anything I try to download (on stock browser, ICS Browser +, and Chrome) all fail even after numerous retries and clearing Download Manager / Downloads / Browsers data and rebooting.
Two - my sdcard/Download folder appears to be empty when using Astro and through a usb connection. Going to data/media/Download, I see all the contents of the folder, but sdcard/Download shows it as empty (false).
I'm on AOKP B28 and Franco M2
Any ideas? id love to be able to download things on my stupid phone again -______________________-
Edit: SOLUTION at post #14
I just got my galaxy nexus but from previous phones this is caused by not redoing permissions. Hope this helps. Rom Manager should help.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Fixed permissions. Download folder still showing up as empty. Downloads still unsuccessful.
Did you flash the sense 4.0 port by any chance?
That happened to me after I flashed that, couldn't see my pictures in gallery either.
To fix it I transferred all my sdcard contents to my computer, locked my bootloader and then unlocked it again and all was good!
Transferred everything back again then after.
nope havent flashed anything crazy but my custom rom and kernel
Well give that trick a go, it might sort everything out.
that method is basically a data wipe and would require me to reinstall the rom, kernel, restore all 300 apps and data ... every lengthy process .. without even a guarantee that it will fix the problem. but ill keep it in mind as a very last resort
anyone have any other suggestions?
It won't wipe rom and kernel, they will be fine but yes, unlocking it will wipe your apps.
It really is a last resort but in the thread for the sense port that is what the dev recommends.
Try everything you can before doing that obviously but I looked and that's all I could find that would work.
I'll keep an eye on this thread so if you find any way post it because I'm interested in finding out.
so any1 have a fix? i tried searching google and xda, found no solution or anything even close ...
Download an app called "Download All". Open it just once and close it, then try downloading the file again. I've had this problem before, and this seemed to have solved the problem for me. Let me know how it works out for you.

Reading. An amazing tool.
Try Dolphin browser HD
Okay so.. I wish I would've taken a screenshot of the file before I deleted it but whatever I guess I'll just describe the entire scenario for anyone else who's having this problem and getting no answers (to the guy who said Dolphin Browser.... Really?.......).
So first of all, data/media/Download functioned 100% fine, sdcard/Download, however, was basically a hollow tomb. You couldn't place any new files into it or even access any of the old files because the folder would appear as empty. So after getting not much help from xda and getting fed up with being unable to download anything at all (you'd be surprised how many things you need to download on a daily basis), I decided to look around using Astro and Root Explorer... Now this is where it gets weird/interesting...
So, using Astro, I found nothing out of the ordinary. But going into Root Explorer, I found a file(not folder) called "download" which was 4.36mb, had permissions rw-rw-r I believe, and showed no content when using a text editor or opening as a zip file. At first I tried setting this files permissions to that of any other folder I had in /sdcard, thinking all my download problems were because the permissions were set wrong, but even after changing the permissions, I couldn't download anything off the Internet. So I go back to the file, again with Root Explorer (this file wouldn't even show up in Astro.. anywhere), and decide to rename it, thinking it's just causing problems (deliberately or accidently) to downloadxxxx.zip (it had no extension before, just strictly "download") but even after this my problems still persist. Lastly, I just decide to delete this weird file altogether and... Voila, I was able to copy a file into my Download folder again, I can download files off the Internet, and i can view/access the contents of the folder. So everything is back to normal, hurray. I'm just curious what the hell that 4.36mb file could have been and why was it messing with downloads even after being renamed (I figured, okay, if it had the same name as the folder, that might cause problems, but after a rename... It made no sense). My only thought now is that the file was a trojan, but I'm not a coder or massive software techy so I can't say for sure. Anyways, problem solved. Just goes to show, sometimes you gotta take matters into your own hands. Hope this will help someone in the near future. Cheers.

Good job! This one is being saved as a mental note!
Also I don't want to be pedantic, OK I lie I do, but by woala I presume you meant voila as in the french word.
I dabbled in a bit of French in school.
only thing that worked for me was to lock and unlock the phone.(for some weird reason rom manager does not correct permission and gives an error). You will erase everything but at least you start fresh, eh?

I am having the exact problem that you are and would love to try your fix... The only problem with that is I need to know where you found this file? I did a search using Root Explorer but didn't see any files called download, just a bunch of folders and databases with the "string" download somewhere in their name. Any help would be great but I am getting very close to just locking my phone again and starting over in hopes that this will do the trick.
Thanks
Hey all, the forums been great at helping me with any issues I've had so I thought I'd throw another one your way. So just a moment ago when attempting to update some apps as play store notified me of the availability and it's giving me an "insufficient storage" msg I'm just trying to update swiftkey and google maps and I have over 6gb left, could someone please help me out with what's going on here? My next thought is to wipe phone and start from scratch but we all know the hassle that can be. Please help thanks.

Any other takers? The pm'd method did not work and it's really annoying now because I was just able to do other updates it specifically won't let me update swiftkey, maps and crunchyroll. 2 out of these 3 are important lol and once again it just did 4 other updates with no problem just stops with these ones. Please help me or I'm gonna have to do a wipe and format my data just to be sure. Would rather not especially as I'm at work now and wifi is at home.
Any time I have gotten this error when trying to install an app (via play store or otherwise) it was due to a stuck (locked/corrupted/wrong permissions?) .odex for the app being present in the same directory as the app.
Use a root enabled explorer (ES File Explorer) and navigate to the directory where the app is located (/system/app for system apps or /data/app for user installed apps). Look for a file with the same name as the application's apk but it will be a .odex file. Delete this odex file and attempt to update from the play store. If deleting just the .odex file doesn't help, try deleting the .apk as well and re-download/install the app.
I hope this helps. If there is no .odex file present then I'm lost as like I said, the only time I have gotten that error is when there has been an .odex file present that I assume was had either improper permissions or corrupted.
