I rooted my phone using ODIN. And tried to backup efs by using an app called efs backup.
the phone randomly restarted and kept reeboting..I went into the recovery and it said e:unable to mount /efs
I did a factory reset
Installed stock rom using odin
NOthing seems to be working..
What can I do?

DO you have a custom Recovery installed? If so, there might be a conflict between the stock ROM and I backup. Try going to recovery, wipe cache and then wipe data(factory reset) and reboot. The first boot takes A lot of time, so as long as the boot animation doesn't loop but does indeed stay n the Samsung text, you are OK

NO i had the stock recovery..
When I reflashed the stock rom it stayed on the samsung logo.. how much time does it take?
The stock recover shows the error in red E:unable to mount /efs (invalid argument)
Maybe something went wrong on your backup. So it had some residue instructions it was doing on boot up. I had a similar problem when triangle away crashed while hacking. I did a 'adb reboot' command which I think cleared any nasty commabd and let it reboot normally.
Think of these as those please reboot to apply chances updates on winfows

I recently flash a couple of root files and I ended up with just a SuperUser application in my app drawer which was a fail on my part.
So I thought i was completely rooted. I decided to flash the ClockWorkMod recovery using ODIN and ended up flashing successfully. When I tried to enter recovery.
Fail to mount a whole lot of stuff. This is when I started to panic.
I searched the forum for the original stock recovery and all I can find is a .zip file from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493932
Again, I tried flashing it with Odin but found out it doesn't accept .zip files.
How do I restore my phone's original stock recovery?
I'm unable to do a factory reset, the minute the factory reset starts, i'm brought up to the Failed To Mount Clockworkmod screen.
Lesson learnt, don't flash anything.
These information could be helpful:
Android 2.3.4
Model Number- GT-S5660M
Baseband Version- S5560MUGKG3
Build Number - GINGERBREAD.MUGKG3
Kernel Version - #1
Please help :crying:
go to sammobile.com, download a stock rom and flash it with odin...
Sorry for my bad englisch

That's because stock ROM uses RFS filesystem, and ClockworkMod is mainly for ext4 partitions, so it can't mount RFS filesystems (there are some versions which support both ext4 and RFS, but I guess you haven't found those)

You can flash the stock recovery from your already installed CWM (CWM = ClockworkMod recovery), using the Install Zip from SD-Card option.
CWM fails to mount because it doesn't recognize the filesystem format, but that doesn't matter when flashing recovery or kernel, because those are written at a low level, block by block, not like a file copying process.
After you flash the stock recovery from CWM, reboot, start in the stock recovery and factory reset again; it should work then.
No worries, the knowledge will come
PS. The solution posted by emyaz is also good (flashing with odin fixes most of the soft-brick problems or almost anything else); I just tried to explain a bit the inner workings of recoveries and such, and you can do this even if no pc is available.
Thank you for the solutions!
I will try them this afternoon when I have the time.
Edit: Works perfectly . Thank you!
Ok guys, I'm freaking out a little here...
So I flashed the latest Hypernote Pegasus 1.0 after Wanam 2.4 (performed full wipe, format system e.t.c). Everything went to plan except that I lost my phone signal on bootup. I assumed this was due to the imei getting corrupted, so I performed an efs restore. Bad idea. I rebooted and got stuck at the boot logo.
I then flashed a stock H3G DLL4 odin ROM, same story - boot anim loop.
So I flashed PhilZ's recovery and performed another EFS restore, still stuck at boot anim loop.
What on earth do I do to get my phone working!? Please help guys as I'm close to pulling out my hair!

Dude, seriously...did you read my post? I've wiped everything everything multiple times, even factory reset through kies (by downloading the stock rom) and my phone is still stuck at the boot anim!

I might have pinpointed the issue, apparently the stock recovery says "E:failed to mount /efs" invalid argument.
Anyone know how to get my EFS working again?
Did u backup your efs prior to flashing?

Yes.
I've tried restoring the image through Phil Z recovery, but same issue.
it seems that you did not back up your own efs, if your phone have a contract then you have to find the efs fit your phone.

I did back up the EFS, I have the file stored on my computer. It's a ~20mb .img file
Fixed for those that want to know:
I had to run and adb shell in CWM and enter the commands:
mke2fs / dev/block/mmcblk0p3
mount-w-t ext4 / dev/block/mmcblk0p3 / efs
Then restored my EFS backup through PhilZ's CWM. Rebooted, and phone booted up!
I have just had a similar problem (stuck at the boot logo screen after choosing Recovery Mode when I long pressed the Power button) and could not access CWM Recovery (VolumeUp + Home + Power button until the boot logo appeared).
As the only easy alternative left I entered Download Mode (VolumeDown + Home + Power button until the boot logo appeared), connected the phone to my PC using the USB cable and used PC Odin to flash CWM Recovery again. Rebooted and everything worked fine.
I now have the new bootloader installed (didn't have to root the phone again), Omega 10 firmware with RedPill 1.01 Kernel.
Hi, I have a problem on my Galaxy GIO GT-S5660.
After turning off my phone, this has gone in bootloop. I've tried to search solutions on the forum, but no one has worked.
I can't go into recovery mode, just into Downloading mode and Emergency Downloading mode. When I try to flash it with a stock rom with Odin, it works until the reboot: when the phone is going to reboot, it doesn't start again. Odin takes his 5 minutes and say "PASS", but the phone is in the same bootloop and I can't use the Recovery mode.
I tried to flash the rom with Odin just using One Package option and either putting 4 packages.
Any idea?
Thanks!
P.S.: Do you know what is "Parameter Clear", "PDA format", "MD5 RAM Check" and "Phone Boot Udpate" under the "Debug ONLY" menu? I use Odin Multi Downloader v4.42.
what did you do? rom manager?
cuz not booting and corrupt recovery cant happen out of nothing, and it are complications of using rom manager on the wrong way.

It sounds like we have the same problem.
My phone won't boot normally (I just get a black screen that flashes every few seconds) and I can't get into recovery mode, only download mode. Tried flashing with Odin and it didn't seem to change anything. I don't know what else to do.

It might have been that I tried to read /dev/stl5 (EFS partition) and that corrupted it. Or it might have been that I tried to flash it using heimdall (which I later discovered doesn't work on Gio). That didn't seem to do anything though, so I'm not sure what actually bricked it.

Can you guys still boot into recovery? If not, try flashing recovery via Odin. Once in recovery, factory reset your device, wipe system, wipe dalvik, wipe everything. Then try once again with Odin to flash your stock ROM - try a one package file (includes everything).

I can't get into recovery. If I boot while holding [home], the screen just blinks every few seconds, the same as if I boot without holding anything. I have tried flashing CWM recovery or stock ROM with Odin; it doesn't seem to change anything.

Hey guys, I'm now trying to fix my problem for 2 days straight, but I think I'm just too noobie.
After using my phone regularly in the evening and putting it into standby afterwards, i woke up the next morning and saw my phone in a bootloop (just the pulsating Samsung logo).
My Note 2 was rooted. but I had the original firmware (4.3 I think).
All I can do now is booting into recovery (I had to reinstall CWM since it was gone) and boot into download modus.
Also, I get the error: E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument)
When I just let it sit for a few minutes, it sometimes plays the startup animation with sound, which is sometimes ending abruptly and after a few minutes more it just boots into recovery.
When I'm in CWM-Recovery, I can't use ADB (phone is not listed)
What I have tried:
Wipe data/factory reset
Install the stock-rom with Odin (one-part, I cant find a three-parted one)
Install a custom rom
I'm looking forward to see any helpful suggestions, also I have to apologize for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker

If you mean flashing a firmware in CWM, I've already done that.
#push
Please guys, I really need help
Did odin show you some error messages? Anyway where did you download the firmware from? are you sure its the correct one?
Usually bootloop problems are solved by flashing the stock firmware. Please check the version of the firmware you have and make sure its the last relase and the correct one (there are a lot of note 2 models)
- Try flashing with a formatted sd or without the sd
- try to change usb port/cable/pc
- redownload the firmware from another site and try to reflash
- do you have a backup? can you revert to that?
- do you have a ESF backup?
When flashing via Odin please follow:
1. click on “PDA” button and choose the “.tar.md5” file from the folder where you’ve extracted the downloaded firmware file.
2.Ensure that only “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset” are checked in Odin, do not make any other changes.
3.click on “Start” button to begin the flashing process.
4.As soon as the flashing process has completed, you will see a “PASS” message in Odin and your device will reboot automatically.
-after you flash the stock firmware try to wait at least 15 min for the first boot, then if it wont boot go on the original recovery and try wiping cache and factory reset then reboot and see if you are lucky.
- anyway keep us updated, more info = more chances to understand the problem = usually more chances to fix it
Well, I don't know why, but I tried flashing TWRP instead of CWR a few minutes ago and tried fixing the efs error with the help of this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/how-to-fix-efailed-to-mount-efs-invalid-t2858056 .
ADB commands did not work with CWR, but using TWRP I was able to use them, now my Note is turning on again.:good:
Obviously i was too dumb to make any backups of my efs folder, so now I just have got the developer IMEI and can't use mobile service.
Any suggestions?
