i have just rooted and installed recovery on my galaxy note 8 - 4.1.2. But i still have software update in my notifications... i understand i will lose my root if i update... how can i disable this notification?
Uncheck all in Settings > About > Wireless update (or similar naming, mine is set-up in Swedish)
EDIT: Switched to English interface, just to get it properly. System Settings > More (if you have a tabbed interface) > About device > Software update.

yup restarted several times now

My GMail stopped working today. It happened spontaneously, several hours after my most recent ZIP flash so I don't think it's related.
Basically I can get mail no problem but anything that requires sending data up to the server (sending mail, archiving or deleting mail) do not work. I've rebooted and I've done a nand restore with no effect.
Regular GMail is working fine so I don't think it's a temporary server issue. Any ideas?
Edit: Try going to settings > applications > manage > all > gmail > force stop then clear data/cache. Worked for me. Thanks to TeknoJnky.
Same.

I have the same problem, but only when I have the wifi on.

Wifi on or off, still not working this morning. WTF?
Completely at a loss here. Did another nand restore and didn't work. I could do a stock reset but I don't see how that would fix anything since I did a restore to before the problem showed up.
Any ideas would be more than welcomed.
It's frustrating.

Just tested, it's working for me right now.

Zzelinka, have you flashed anything recently? What are you running? Installed any apps recently?
I'm running Stock deodexed 3.29. Yesterday I flashed transparent notification bar and circle battery icon, but did a nand restore to before that and it didn't fix it. Don't think I've flashed anything for several days before that.
Last app I've installed was MP3 Music Download, but was several days ago....
Only running System Panel in the background....
So I have no idea. Grrrrr

You rock. Cache was empty but cleared data, and after a few hiccups trying to get GMail to start up again, it works. Thanks, this was driving me c-r-a-z-y.
Is there a way to remove the software update notification?
Thanks
system settings -> options tab -> Device Info field -> software-update field
Can't seem to find that sir.
Herzlichen Dank!
I still have the software update notification.

ohh, then you should not update.
try going to system/apps/google services framework and untick "show notifications"
or
(better)
download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun
select advanced mode, then in settings check 'show system entries' and then find Google services framework, and disable the one with 'system update receiver' in the name
(you may need to refresh the list first) "
if you are using titanium backup, you could also try to freeze the update app.

Using Titanium, or any app that freezes for that matter; the app i believe you want to freeze is SDM (mine is SDM 1.0).
I am running skydragon rom and unfortunately my phone downloaded an LG system update. I did not install it, but i do want to delete it and remove the reminder... Plus it's stopping me from installing some of the LG apps that have been removed...
How can this be accomplished. Thanks.
Wow.. Anybody.
I'm not sure on the location of the update, but for me, I just pulled down the notification panel, long pressed the Update notification, clicked on App Info, then unchecked notifications, clicked ok to confirm, then checked it back on.
That removed the persistent notification for the T-Mobile system update, hasn't shown up since in about 3 days time.
I tried that... It worked for a few hours then it came back.
You can always leave it unchecked, but I'm not sure what other apps use Play Services for their updates or other.
That's my worry. I think a lot of other apps use play services.

Apparently many people have said that you can disable the updates by getting into the hidden menu by typing this in the dialer: 3845#*851#
Click on WLAN Test
Go to OTA
Disable
Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I hope it works for you. I accidentally downloaded the LG update as well, but for some reason the update notification is still there. super annoying!

If your rooted, you can use a root explorer and delete the update.zip file in the /cache folder. That will take care of any auto update when you reboot your phone.
Since I'm running stock, I also froze the following apps with Titanium Backup:
App Updates 4.20.100
ConfigUpdater 4.4.2-940549
LGSetupWizard 4.3.020
Update Center 4.20.100
I get a notice once in a while when I go to wifi, but I noticed that the update is no longer downloaded to the /cache folder after freezing the apps above.
So I tried doing it through the hidden menu but it doesnt work. Has anyone found another way to disable the notification without completely disabling Google Framework Service?

The update already downloaded itself so when I go to Software Updates there is no option to uncheck check and download automatically.
I have the latest official 8.1 ROM and don't want to update to PIE yet.
But notification about this update is just like the ones from iPhone, keeps coming back and I see no way to turn it off.
I've disabled automatic update in developer settings, but would like to disable checking for update and notification about it also.
In my other phones there always was system app called "Update" or "System-update" and stopping/disabling it was enough to stop bothering me.
Is there any way to disable checking for update and notification about existing update?
My phone is not rooted.
When the notification comes for the system update just slide it right/left but not all the way, just halfway across the screen and let it go. This way you'll see "snooze" and a "gear". Tap on the gear and then "Don't show notifications"

I'm sorry, English is my third language and sometimes I don't know how to make a correct accent on the specific part of the question
the main part of my question is to disable checking for update and after doing this notifications will disappear
I understand that I can just hide the notifications but I'd like to know how to solve this problem completely

I don't think there's any thing more you can do about it Disabling from Developer Settings and hiding the notification is all I can say about it
Disable automatic system updates in developer options.
If developer options are not enabled, activate by giving 7 clicks on "Build number" (Settings / About phone / Build number)
Go to System / Advanced / Developer Options / Automatic System Updates
Disable and no longer have automatic updates. When you want to update, you'll need to manually fetch.
What is keeping you from rooting and removing updater package from system/app? Especially if you are not planing to update to pie yet
